* Boss SP303: A great little sampler. Compact, robust, and non-volatile sample memory. Perfect for single shots and non rythmical loops.
* Korg DW8000: A rather unique synth, digital single cycle waveforms running through an analogue filter (actual analogue, not virtual). Capable of some thunderous bass in unison mode, and some ethereal shimmering pads. Ours has lost it's memory and just makes odd noises now. Hopefully a new battery will cure its' dementia.
* Korg Kaoss Pad 2: Kaoss pads are rather good.
* Korg Kaoss Pad 3: The KP3 ups the sampling and beat sync side of things. The LED matrix display on the pad is pleasingly retro-futuristic.
* Korg MS2000R: The ms2k is a surpisingly deep and versatile VA. Especially once you get the mod matrix and modsequencer in on the action. Also scores highly in the flashing lights department.
* Korg Microkorg x 3: Same synth engine as the ms2k less the modsequencer. Cheap and good sounding, hence the popularity with the band.
* Korg Radias R: A seriously underestimated synth - capable of some fantastically dirty, organic and liquid textures. An enigma, bling in appearance, but actually rather cultured and interesting.
* Korg N364: Can I point out we're not sponsored by or connected to Korg in anyway? We just seem to have ended up with a lot of Korg gear. Anyway, the N364 is a pretty bog standard mid-90's ai2 S+S workstation. It weighs a ton, and is gets used for wurly and pad sounds. Often though a cheap distortion pedal.
* Korg Triton: Another Korg, another bog standard workstation. To it's credit, the Triton does have a reasonble resonant filter and some knobs.
* Korg EA-1: Great little squelch box, ours seems to have died completely, but I'm listing it anyway in case it impresses Mr Korg and we get some free stuff.
* Yamaha SHS10: (yes, Yamaha. sorry Mr Korg) There are a few circuit bent SHS10's, but we've only ever used the midi out on ours. Those familiar with this instrument will know why this is especially shameful.
* Yamaha DX21: Vintage 80's 4-op FM synthesis. Goes through many pedals and a noise gate to make it sound a bit less like a vintage 80's 4-op FM synth..
* Yamaha CS2x: A ton of great sounds but very shallow synthesis.
* Yamaha PSS130: Portasound never had the same ring to it as Casiotone.
* Various FX pedals and processors"

Visited the Cantos foundation museum of electronic instruments and keyboards in February 2009 and got a lovely tour of the facilities. Took a lot of pictures & videos.

"This is a short sippet of Matti Bye recording the elusive Yamaha GS-2, a very early FM synth. The Yamaha GS-2 is being treated through a MOTM-420 filter (a MS-20 filter) which is being modulated by a Synthesizer.com q960 sequencer. This music was recorded for a film we are working on.

This little snippet was shot at my studio in Stockholm. It is called Roth Händle studios and it has been up and running for just about ten years now. x0xi0 Full mod kit for x0xb0x is now available

"It's been 18 months since I showed the [not so] final prototype ;)

I've made several improvements to the original feature set and added some very useful new features. The Full mod kit consists of the Top panel mods and the Rear panel mods. The Rear panel mods, also known as the I/O & Overdrive kit, is the part that I started selling in July 2008. This is a subset of the Full kit. Hence, the kit is available as a Full kit or the Full kit upgrade for those who already have the Rear kit and just want to add the top panel mods. The general look of the kit is white on black accented by red & blue LED’s. The final overlay is still being test printed and has not been ordered yet, but will be very similar to the rendering in the picture shown.

This is not a simple mod package, it is a very extensive addition to the x0xb0x. The kit build is medium difficulty. If you built your x0xb0x you should be able to install the kit. If you want to get a general idea of the difficulty of the project you can download the Install Manual for the Rear kit here [9.16M PDF].

All the controls on the mod can be zeroed to return the x0xb0x to stock. The kit uses only high quality parts from Alpha, Bourns, C&K, E-Switch, Nichicon, NKK, Rean etc.. and includes everything necessary to build and install the mod:

* new rear panel pcb (sits above x0xb0x I/O board)
* new top panel pcb (sits above x0xb0x mainboard)
* new aluminum rear panel
* new machined aluminum top panel
* new overlays for the rear and top panels
* all parts needed to complete the mod

Modified Korg Poly 800 II

"This Poly-800 comes in its original case... also added several well designed modifications on this unit:
1- VCF CV Input.
This allows you to modulate the filter cutoff from a modular synth, CV pedal, or other signal generator. The input is designed to receive the standard 0-5 Volts, though the added circuit protects the Poly800 from voltages outside of that range.
2- External Audio Input w/Level Control.
This input is for processing other a synthesizer, guitar, voice, drum machine, or any other sound source. It will work perfectly for guitarists, because the added circuitry provides just enough gain (and just the right impedance) to boost the guitar's low level signal.
3- Filter FM Control.
This potentiometer controls the depth of Filter Cutoff Modulation from DCO1's audio signal. This mod allows for an extreme range of sounds- from growling synth bass to Ring Modulator-type noises.
4- Cutoff and Resonance Controls.
These potetiometers allow you to control the VCF's cutoff frequency and resonance in real-time!
5- 2-Pole / 4-Pole Low-Pass Filter Switch.
This switches between the original 4-pole (24dB/Oct) and the new 2-pole (12dB/Oct) filter modes. The new setting has a brighter sound, which really showcases the beautiful analog character of this true Voltage Controlled Filter.
6- Noise / External Audio Switch.
This switch allows the External Signal to run through the Poly800 alone. The switch also holds Envelope 3 (which controls the level of the external input) open at the maximum setting (regardless of parameters 61-66).

"Notes are grouped depending on whether they're members of the 29 tone 11 limit scale, or Partch's additions. The unpainted and gray keys are Partch's additions. What blows me away is how symmetrical the scale is, even when mapped to a computer keyboard. I also really like the image that the keys make."

Marvin Sanders - As Keyboard Product manager for Rolannd US, Sanders has performed at clinics all over the world. In between his involvement with their marketing and promotional afforts, he has created sounds for products from the JV-80 to the JD-800, factory patterns for the JW-50 and ROM plays found in the SC-155, U-220 and Model 760. Sanders also maintainers an active freelance career in Los Angeles composing and consulting for a variety of clients from Toyota, Acura, and Alpine to Max Factor and Michael Jackson.

Mitsuru Sakaue began composings and doing arrangemennts for commercials and videos whiel still in school. In particular, his studio work earned for him a solid reputation. Currently (1992), as a chief producer within Idecs, Inc., he produces commercial musics and jingles for FM stations. His range of activity is broad, and includes his work as an instructor and expert on music intruments/computer music for the Roland Learning Center (Japan), as well as for other schools. In addtion, he has had numerous other opprotunities for displaying his talents wll while serving as demonstrator/product specialist for Roland.

Chas Smith - Roland UK's Senior Product Specialist/Demonstrator joined the company in 1987, after a freelance career playing in rock bands. he is an active composer, principally for the jingle market. His particular interests lin in the use of the latest sampling technology and in programming synthesizers. "

"hard-to-find Roland GC-10 dedicated 13-pin guitar synthesizer controller. I cannot recall the first time I saw the Roland GC-10, but I am pretty sure it was from looking at a Japanese web site. As far as I have been able to determine, the Roland GC-10 was briefly sold with the Roland GI-10 in the early nineties, primarily in Japan. The guitar was never offered for sale in the United States, nor can I find any reference to the Roland GC-10 in any Roland English-language literature. There is badging at the top of the headstock that reads "GTM." I saw a web page that called this the Roland "Guitar-to-MIDI" controller. I have seen one other guitar with the badging, and it is the guitar played on the Roland VG-99 demo page, though it is a different guitar."

"In September 2002, Roger Arrick of Synthesizers.com produced a one of a kind purple faced version of his modular synth. Normally, these modules are black. It is housed in a custom QCP22 22-Space Portable Cabinet which is also sporting a nice grey tolex covering, another unique feature. The modules also have blue LED's instead of the standard red ones. Synthesizers.com has never produced any modules in any other color than black, and this particular synth was produced as a one-of-a-kind item by them.

This modular synth is pure analog heaven. It has three oscillators and two filters. One filter is a "Moog" type transistor ladder filter switchable 12 or 24dB/octave. The other filter is a "State Variable" filter. This modular is similar in capability to a MiniMoog but with an extra filter, full patchability and other things like a "Clipper" and a Sample & Hold module.

This synth can be controlled by either Midi (via its own Q104 Midi Interface module) or any external Control Voltage (CV) device using the 1V/octave CV standard. Since this is a true modular synth there is no internal patching, like in an ARP 2600, so you will need patch cables to make sounds. The only patching internally is for powering the modules from the internal power supply.

After its initial manufacture, the first owner of this synth was Joe "Guido" Welsh. It was housed at his private studio, Guidotoons located outside of Nashville. Joe then sold the item to John LeVasseur, who used it extensively for his ambient progressive rock project Airfoil. John is the person offering this item for auction. (Hi!) This is the complete provenance of this item.

"The opening of this demo is John's own original demo that he did for the Prophet-5 in 1978. This tune uses the same Solaris generated drum kit from number three as well as more use of that excellent Comb Filter as well as Vector Synthesis using a realization of one of the Prophet VS factory patches."

"This is the second 'All Solaris' demonstration made up of 5 separate tracks sequenced and played manually. The pseudo Deep Note was done using two virtual CEM VCOs with about 5-6 seconds of exponential glide and a virtual SSM filter. The long resonant filter sweeping is done on the SSM model."
