Doepfer A-197 - Analog Meter

via this auction

"Colletors item - no longer available

This module serves to display DC or AC voltages by means of an illuminated moving coil meter with mirror scale. The display range is 0...+10V (resp. -5V...+5V in the offset mode). The module features 3 different measuring methods that are selected by a toggle switch:

✔ Full Wave Rectifier: This mode is normally used to display audio signals resp. AC voltages. The incoming signal is rectified and smoothed with a low pass filter. Even DC voltages can be measured in this mode. The display shows however the absolute value (i.e. positive voltages remain unchanged, negative voltages - e.g. -3V - are converted into the corresponding positive voltages - e.g. +3V). To distinguish between positive and negative input signals a LED is available that lights up in case of a negative signal.

✔ Direct Mode: In this mode the incoming voltage is lead to the meter without additional electronic modification. This mode is planned to display positive DC voltages, e.g. ADSR (A-140/141/A142), MIDI-to-CV (A-190/191), positive random voltages (A-149-1), foot controller (A-177), Gate/Clock signals.

✔ Offset Mode: In this mode +5V are added to incoming voltage before it reaches the meter. Zero volt input correspond to the middle position of the display needle (i.e. +5V read out). This mode can be used to display positive and negative voltages, e.g. a slowly swinging LFO (A-145/146/147), S&H (A-148), bipolar random voltages (A-118), joy stick (A-174), Theremin (A-178), light controlled CV source (A-179).
The measuring input is available as a triple multiple so that the signal to be measured can be used in the system simultaneously. A LED is used as an indicator for negative voltages."

Lets get LoFi 8 - Prosound Modded GBC + Pocket Music

YouTube via ChrisLody | October 31, 2010

"This is a bit of a departure from my normal Lofi videos but i just finished modding a gamboy color so i thought i'd do a video of it.

The mod to the gameboy color is a prosound mod which adds an extra output. At the start of the video i use the normal headphone jack to show the difference in level. My GBC had a blow speaker so i installed an extra jack in place of it. There is still some noise but that just appears to be part of the sound of Pocket Music as i also tried the music software built into the gameboy camera and that sounded nice and clean. In the past i've also used Imageline's Edison to remove noise from signals like this.

The software is Pocket Music. I created this track 'Z80' years ago but i still realy like it. Pocket Music is nice and simple to use but can still produce some cool sounds. Its also available on the GBA but i wouldn't recommend that version as it sounds horrid."

Live Techno Series #5 - Virus TI2 & Ableton - Simon Stokes

YouTube via siedgey | October 30, 2010

"**PLEASE WATCH IN 720p HD!**
**The sound quality is still ravaged (especially the subs), but it is marginally better..**

Thanks for checking this out!

I can't believe it's actually been 10 months since I lasted posted a video of me making some live techno - thanks to anyone who has forgiven me and is still watching.. :]

All sorts of great things have happened this year - I have been playing more around the UK and internationally, putting out some tracks with some really nice labels and generally just enjoying myself.

This track is inspired by a recent visit to the Warehouse Project to see an epic set by Ricardo Villalobos & Raresh - he tore the place a new one and I think this track captures how it felt for me. This time round it's a thudding techno track - very stripped, but chunky as well. The Virus is creating all the sounds in realtime as I play it, and Ableton is providing the percussion, controlled by my UC-33e.

I love making music, but I really get my kicks when other people enjoy listening to it. Please leave a comment or any feedback that you have for me, it will be warmly appreciated.

If you have any questions, I'm always happy to answer them so post a comment or send me a message.

Cheers,

Simon

The track has then been edited in Cubase using some plugins for FX and mastering."

Gakken SX-150 hacking the controller - tutorial

on Coagula here "In another post I wrote about the Gakken SX-150, now I explain how I created a "giant" controller (50cm) for this mini synthesizer, but in order to make this change I had to first understand a little more about the original control system. The strip on the Gakken SX-150 is simply a resistor of about 75 Kilohom. Looking at the schematics I found on the Matrixsynth blog I could think for an alternative to the control system of Gakken...."

Tristram Cary's EMS SYNTHI Up for Auction

via this auction
"For sale an early EMS VCS3 Putney mk1. A great sounding world renowned analogue synthesizer, that has a unique style and character all of its own. Plenty of information can be found on the internet and a marvellous resource is to be found here; http://thesynthi.de/ which also has an excellent informative forum. This used to be owned by composer and visual designer of the vcs3; Tristram Cary, who as well as supplying the music for the classic Ealing comedy "The Ladykillers" also provided incidental music for the Dr Who series in the 60's and 70's as well as many other notable compositions. (It is the synth that he is playing in his studio [below]) This was fully serviced by Robin Wood when I first purchased it through him and is a great sounding synth. Open to worldwide bidding."

The Dark - Marty The Vampire

"Cheery (not) little ditty written as its Halloween this weekend. Enjoy.
Main Bass Synth/Strings are from a Technics WSA1 (all in a single patch), Scream at the intro is from a Fairlight with Audio Damage Discord 2, SSL's X-Orcism plugin is used (I had to use it somewhere on this one) on the waterphone again from the Fairlight. Drums are a combination of BFD, Kore and an Akai XE-8 drum module. Choirs are an Orchestron sample from an Akai S5000, this is doubled up with the clasic Fairlight Sarah sound. Piano is Korg SG-1D with the chorus on, Wierd sounds under the vocals is a mixture of Camel Audio Cameleon 5000 and a Technics WSA1. This is all underpinned by the fabulous Hahaha CS33 playing the distorted bass and later on the echo distorted synth at the end. Lastly, the strings are from a Yamaha SS-30 String Synth with extra processing. Vocals use my secret weapon.
The track is available as a free download.

"I'm waisting time these days on finalising an enclosure to house this Thomas Henry Drum Voice Synth or Quad Bass++ or whatever it's called and a Sound Lab Mini Synth. For the layout, I'm using Avery Clear See through Labels (prod no 15665 for laser printers). It's not as clear as I thought, frosted like, but the enclosure's color is on the light side so it doesn't show much.
I'm spraying a protective clear coat over everything since the ink doesn't really stay put on the labels. One important advise if you plan to use these labels for your projects, these labels will stick silly if applied on anything else than a powder coated surface, be warned, if you have the slightest offset an need to realign this label you'll end up with a mess..."
