Roland Jupiter-80s on eBay

Update:  The official Press Release:

"Los Angeles, CA, November 28, 2012 — Roland is proud to announce JUPITER Synth Legends Volume 1, the first in a series of free sound libraries for the JUPITER-80 and JUPITER-50 synthesizers featuring a wealth of authentic vintage sounds from some of the most legendary and iconic instruments in Roland’s history.

The collection uses Roland’s powerful and flexible SuperNATURAL® synthesizer sound engine to capture the essence of historical Roland synths and showcases all-new Tones, Live Sets, Registrations, and arpeggio patterns. The Live Set architecture and multi-effects of the JUPITERs are fully maximized, giving players a huge selection of “dream” synth combinations comprised of the most legendary synths ever created.

JUPITER Synth Legends Volume 1, the initial release in the series, honors these seven legendary Roland instruments from the 1980s:

• JUPITER-8 (1981) • JUNO-60 (1982) • D-50 (1987)
• TB-303 (1982) • JUPITER-6 (1983)
• SH-101 (1982) • JUNO-106 (1984)

These classic synths each have between 10 and 20 iconic factory preset sounds that distinguish their character, and they’re all represented among 123 newly created single Tones for the JUPITER-80/-50. There are 512 new Live Sets also included that combine the historic synths together using layers and multi-effects processing. Many Live Sets feature single legacy Tones, enhanced with effects unavailable in the original instruments, and nearly 300 new arpeggio patterns are included that are perfect for a wide range of contemporary electronic music genres.

The inspiring sounds made by these classic instruments have helped shape modern music, and now players can access them all inside the JUPITER-80/-50. Future JUPITER Synth Legends volumes will feature the sounds from other sought-after analog classics and spotlight the three vintage LPF types available in the JUPITER-80/-50.

Download the free sound libraries here:
www.JUPITER-80.com

In honor of the release, Roland is hosting the Roland JUPITER #SynthLegends Giveaway. Synth fans in the U.S. can enter the contest for a chance to win a JUPITER-50 fully pre-loaded with all the sounds from the JUPITER Synth Legends Volume 1 sound collection. Synth fans are also being encouraged to join the conversation with @Roland_US on Twitter using the hashtag #synthlegends to share all-time favorite synthesizers and synth sounds."

Tone2 RayBlaster Promo Video

YouTube Published on Nov 28, 2012 by Tone2Audiosoftware

2nd video, also added to the Tone2 Rayblaster Feature Overview post.
The following description is the same as what's in the previous post.

"Rayblaster employs a new synthesis technique called Impulse Modelling Synthesis (IMS)

Opposed to using looped waveforms, Impulse Modelling Synthesis creates its sound by using short bursts of energy, which are then combined to form its sound. Allowing free manipulation of pitch, time and timbre in real-time, to create complex compositions.

IMS no longer requires a separate filter section, its oscillators can authentically mimic the filter sound of other synthesizers and filters, using one of the factory impulse presets or by simply importing one of your own impulses. RayBlaster is capable of modelling both the sound of existing filters, as well as create completely new artificial filters, exclusive to Rayblaster.

Next to importing filter characteristics into its oscillators, Rayblaster also offers resynthesize options to import the waveform of any other source or synthesizer. By using one of the quick importers, or by directly importing your sample into one of Rayblaster's four oscillators, providing a large amount of possible wave-shapes, all capable of being morphed in real-time.

RayBlaster ships with an inspiring library of over 500 outstanding presets from some of the world's top sound designers. Many complex sounds such as arpeggiators, vocals or drumloops automatically synchronize to the BPM.
For fast & easy access to the specific sound you desire, all sounds are arranged into categories, making them easy to locate whether for live performance or within a professional studio environment.

For more information on Rayblaster and our other products, please visit the Tone2 website at http://www.tone2.com"

"The secrets of subtractive synthesis "The 4 Element Synth"

Rob Papen is a globally renowned sound designer whose sounds and virtual synthesizers are used and loved by many synthesizer players and music producers.

This 200+ page book, which is accompanied by four DVDs with over 10 hours of content, gives an in-depth insight into his approach of working with subtractive synthesis.

In 2001, Rob Papen began giving exclusive masterclasses teaching 'synthesizer sound design" in his studio. For these training sessions, Rob developed his own method to explain the secrets of subtractive synthesis, called "The 4 Element Synth".
This masterclass training is now transformed into a combined book and DVD package that also delivers numerous 'tips and tricks' which will help you to design and tweak your own sounds. Throughout the masterclass, a variety of hardware and software synthesizers are explored.

We are sure this synthesizer sound design training is an eye-opener for every synthesizer player, from novice to pro. A must have for everyone who takes his sounds seriously!

Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TT-303 Hardware TB-303 Clone Released

Update 11/28: Update on the price:

UK: £449.00 + VAT
EU: €549.00 + VAT
US: $699.99 + VAT

Update: additional pics & PDF via Lorne/kidtronic via Rhythm Active.

Remember the Bass Bot TT-303 demo videos posted here back on October 18?   Well, it is currently available as of today, and it is the first product from a new company named Cyclone Analogic based in Hong Kong (possible sites not yet live: http://www.cyclone-analogic.com | http://www.tt-303.com).  You will find full details on the TT-303 further below.

Before we get to that, Robin Whittle, who brought us the Devilfish Mods for the original TB-303, will be performing them for the TT-303 as well. You can find details on his page here.

Lorne aka kidtronic wrote in to let us know Rhythm Active in Australia, one of our sponsors, currently has the TT-303 available. I also hear Syntaur in the US has them for $649.95 $699.95 plus $14.95 shipping to the lower 48.  Syntaur adds the following details: "There is a nicely-done printed manual - on real paper, with ink! Just like back in the analog days of yore... Also a power adapter, and a MIDI break-out cable. (The TT-303 has a single 8-pin MIDI jack. A standard 5-pin cable can be used for MIDI In only, and the break-out cable - 8-pin jack to two 5-pin cables - can be used for MIDI In and Out.)" Update 11/28: Modular Square in France (one of our sponsors) will have them in stock soon (via Twitter).

The following details are via Superior Sound London, who currently shows them as being sold out in the UK:

"The Bass Bot TT 303 electronic bass synth features a selectable monophonic analog VCO processed through a 4 pole analog cascading filter. It uses 21st-century transistor technology to synthesize tones from super-crisp self-resonating leads to squelchy rhythms and deep subharmonic bass grooves.

Creating music as simple or complex as you want with the Bass Bot is a breeze. Its ground-breaking InstaDJ OS is an artificially intelligent sequencer and can be programmed in two methods: by a human user or by the computer-controlled Bass Bot.

Humans may program musical patterns manually using traditional step entry with control over pitch, time, length and special characteristics such as octave transpose, accent and slide for each note.

Alternatively let the Bot generate a pattern and use it immediately, tweak it to taste, or mutate it into a new pattern altogether at the touch of a button. The Bass Bot TT 303 includes seven different ‘personalities’ each of which generates its own special style of musical patterns. No two Bots will produce the same patterns. Each is as individual as the user, though the basic personalities are the same for every Bass Bot.

The Bass Bot TT 303 features seven unique preset personality programs, capable to generate up to 224 computer generated presets by the Bass Bot ™.

An additional 224 Editable Patterns can compose up to 7 songs of up to 127 bars. All information is saved to onboard flash (permanent) memory and transferable directly to other Bass Bots via 8 Pin DIN cable (cloning) or to PC / MAC (backup) for storage with a downloadable transfer application available on our website. Other platforms to be supported soon.

Vacoloco Working on Aurora - New Polyphonic Hardware Synth

via Vacoloco

"So, What is Aurora?

Well, my band (Her Dark Embrace) recently went into the recording studio to record our EP. The Engineer was very into electronics and synths and we had some great chats. He asked the question “So, you play keyboards and you build synths, so why don’t you use your own?” Really good question I thought, I replied “Everything I play is chords/pads and I’ve only built monosynths, I’ve never built a polysynth.” to which he asked “why not?“, I had no answer.

So I thought about it and I’d had the basics of a monosynth design on the drawing board so to speak, so whilst on holiday I finished the design and when I returned ordered some PCBs

Over the last month I’ve begun building a single voice board, first an oscillator, then I ported the code from the oscillator chip in Zira and modified the code, so I have two oscillators with 56 waveforms a piece, with hard sync and adjustable mix..."

Mono synths on a single board stacked for polyphony much like the vintage synths of yore. The Oberheim OB series come to mind. Very, very cool.
