PHOENIX - Love Like A Sunset Sound (nearly)

YouTube Uploaded by KidsAtMidnight on Feb 18, 2012

"PHOENIX - Love Like A Sunset Sound (nearly)

Was supposed to be working on new track (and feeding the cat) but got sidetracked by the MoogerFoogers. Found a sound a bit like the mad glissando CS80 at the start of Love Like A Sunset so tried to work out the part a bit. Stole the Marimba-like bit from the Multitrack they put online.

Arthur (cat) was just hungry and attention seeking. He's not normally too bad a chewer. Mind you, I did find all but one knob from my Digi002 in the hallway once. Bad boy ..."

STG Soundlabs Post-Lawsuit LPF filter

via this auction

"This listing is for the STG Soundlabs Post-Lawsuit LPF in Eurorack format. It is a low pass filter based on an analog synthesizer of the 1970’s. From the STG Sounlabs website …

'This filter is not a clone of the ARP 4072 submodule. It does, however, have an identical topology with the same transistors and operational amplifier array. Some people may find this is close enough to use the "C" word but not here at STG Soundlabs, so in tribute to the origin of this filter design it is called the Post-Lawsuit Lowpass Filter.

And before you call to complain, let me point out that Post-Ambiguous-Legal-Action Lowpass Filter just didn't have the same ring.'"

Seiko DS-250 Additive Synth - "Falling Hours"

YouTube Uploaded by synthspotter on Feb 18, 2012

"I created this song entirely with the Seiko DS-250 synthesizer. After noticing how few videos of the synth are available, I decided to compose a short piece demonstrating some of its sounds. I used about eight total. The only external effects are reverb and delay.

The DS-250 is one of two or three additive synthesis keyboards manufactured in the early to mid 1980s by Seiko, an electronics company better known for watch making. As synthesizers go, the DS-250 is extremely limited. It has just 16 basic preset sounds, with no edit function to speak of. It has two sound banks (Sound 1 and Sound 2), but each shares the same 16 presets. You can select different sounds for each bank, then stack or split them across the keyboard. Each bank has its own individual audio output, selectable MIDI channel, and controls for volume, decay (three settings) and vibrato (with selectable delay). Sound 1 can be tuned +14 cents, and Sound 2 can be tuned a 3rd, 5th, 7th or octave above Sound 1. There is also a pitch wheel, a chorus switch with three settings (including off), and a transpose button that can shift the pitch up to any key as well as up or down an entire octave.

While the pair of built-in speakers suggests that Seiko was aiming for the home-keyboard market, the DS-250 could also be paired up with the DS-310 module, which gave the user a fairly deep level of editing capability. On its own, however, the DS-250 wasn't much. Some nice sounds, though.

DIY Electronic Music Box Inspired by Buchla's Music Easel

via /Manu: "Sigma-blog document's the development of my Electronic Music Box DIY performance synthesizer inspired by Buchla’s Music Easel. Everything is going to be under a 6U rack format engine bonnet. The density of controls is something between Doepfer and MOTM. Color-coding is little from Buchla (blue and red) and I am using nice NKK-switches and Alpha-sliders with LED’s inside (take a look at Henrik Nydells Modulator).

The heart’s of this design are my two Oakley VCO’s that I am going to take apart and give a new life as complex VCO’s. Jörgen Bergfors has designed a beautiful Complex VCO here. The core of my Complex VCO is Oakley VCO. Waveshaping is by Bergfors and Ian Fritz. Two waveshapes can be selected by voltage and mixed to MIX-OUT. The second VCO is simpler with just basic waveforms and Buchla’s timbre generator from Music Easel. Timbre can be modulated by voltage.

8-step VCP sequencer is from Fonitronik. It is an interesting design where you can select Gray code patterns (256 patterns) with voltage. There are three options for every step; normal 8-step sequence, skipped, ADC-controlled gray code. I am going to integrate Electric Druids TAP-tempo clock to this sequencer so that you can choose the tempos on fly.

There are two LFO’s that use the same PIC-chip as in the sequencers TAP-tempo clock. This is a very versatile digital LFO-chip with TAP-tempo/external clock, six waveforms, wave distort and tempo multiplier. More information is here.

To save time I decided to order Doepfer-modules that I am going to adapt in my own design. A-149-1 and A-149-2 generate random quantized and stored voltages as in Buchla’s Source of Uncertainty. Two A-101-2 LPG’s as Buchla’s Low Pass Gates. A-134 PAN can do voltage controlled panning or two signal morphing."

Kraftwerk - Music Non Stop

Uploaded by uhupattex on Nov 23, 2008

"The music was generated, recorded and mixed on analog and digital equipment and transfered to the digital master. It was the first Kraftwerk album in CD format. The tracks 'Boing Boom Tschak', 'Technopop' and 'Musique Non Stop' formed a sequence of tracks, an idea that would be used a lot in the DJ culture mixing technique. The use of samplers made the treatment of voices more sophisticated, incorporating them into the rhythm and melody at the same time. Boing Boom Tschak is in fact pure sound-poetry and electronic-funk, followed by the synthetic voices and sound-collages of "Music Non Stop". The mix of this album was done by Francois Kevorkian in New York.

The changes did not only occur in terms of digital sound, Kraftwerk also digitized their own images. The cover of 'Technopop' showed the digitized faces in computer graphics, developed at the New York Institute of Technology. The video of "Music Non Stop"is a tremendous example of virtual modeling and was created by Rebecca Allen and the team of NYIT Computer Graphics Laboratory. The pioneering work of developing these 3-D computer animations took more than two years to be completed."

the magnetic bug by folktek, talking to itself

YouTube Uploaded by pianoloft on Feb 18, 2012

"concerning to sound, the controlling of sound and the art-design, the instruments by folktek (http://folktek.com/) are really extraordinary. they are hand crafted and own wonderful wooden enclosers, as you can watch. the noises going on at the MAGNETIC BUG are not predictible, they change their color and character all the time. a lot of oscillators are intermodulating with each other, forming endless variations. patches, a magnetic patch-bay and knobs are used to produce and develop a chaotic, nasty, grimey, splittering and crackling soundscape - sometimes aggressive, sometimes melacholic, all the time surprising and fresh.
i combined the MAGNETIC BUG with a high pass filter, and in the first part there is also a soft atmosphere added useing the DEMENTIA DM-1, sent through the filter of the KORG MONOTRON and the RAINBOWMACHINE."

iK3m v1.2 Wired and Wireless CoreMIDI iPad Editor Now Available

YouTube Uploaded by iControlMIDI on Jan 13, 2012

"Apple has released iK3m v1.2 our Wired and Wireless CoreMIDI iPad Editor for Kawai K3 / K3m.

iControlMIDI for the K3 / K3m offers a very intuitive workflow that will help “open-up” the synth:
• Substrative Synthesis: as usual iControlMIDI will display the parameter name ex: DCO Wave and the parameter value ex: Saw and the parameters are sonically logically organized: DCO Page with DCO modulations, VCF Page with VCF modulations and VCA Page with VCA modulations.
• Additive Synthesis: you can do it in 3 simple steps!
Step 1: You have a visual representation of the 128 harmonics and you can adjust the harmonic level for each of them - but this will not send any MIDI message at this step in order to not overload the K3 / K3m;
Step 2: Then, with one button (ADD “Send!”) you can send your additive synthesis wave (first 32 non zero-level harmonics only) to the K3 / K3m Internal Additive Wave;
Step 3: Then, to offer pseudo-real-time workflow you can press the TONE 1 “Send!” button which will send all the Substrative Synthesis parameters to Internal TONE 1 and send a MIDI Program Change for TONE 1 which will let you hear your Additive Wave inside the TONE 1 if you have selected DCO Wave 32 (Additive) for DCO1 or DCO2. Sweet! Of course you should back-up your TONE 1 and / or Internal Additive Wave to the cartridge or your computer before.

The K3 and K3m can be edited using the following Pages:
• Page 1: DCO, DCO Modulations, Additive “Send!” button and TONE 1 “Send!” button
• Page 2: VCF, VCF Envelop, VCF Modulations and LFO
• Page 3: VCA, VCA Envelop and VCA Modulations
• Page 4: Additive Synthesis Harmonic 1 to 32 levels
• Page 5: Additive Synthesis Harmonic 33 to 64 levels
• Page 6: Additive Synthesis Harmonic 65 to 96 levels
• Page 7: Additive Synthesis Harmonic 97 to 128 levels"
