Three One Synth Releases From Important Records - Alessandro Cortini (Buchla), Eliane Radique (ARP 2500), & ELEH (Serge)

Important Records wrote in to let us know they have three new releases showcasing one synth each.   Alessandro Cortini's "Forse2" was made entirely on the original Buchla Music Easel, Eliane Radique's Adnos I-III was composed with an ARP 2500, and ELEH features an 8 panel Serge modular wynthesizer.
Full details and links:

"-Alessandro Cortini’s “Forse 2” is now available. Made entirely on an original Buchla Music Easel, just like 'Forse 1' but with an entirely different mood to it.

This is a 2xLP and the second in a series of 3 releases we have planned with Alessandro. Hopefully the CD Box will be out early next year. A cassette for our sister label Cassauna is in the works too for his Synthi A explorations.

The KP3 generates a Clock signal wich is fed into my Ipad. The Ipad translates the clock signal for the SR-16 with Genome MIDI and send it via midi to the SR-16. The sr 16 is playing a pattern wich is now speed controlled by the gameboy. Enhanced with some kind of rhythmical movements ;)"

"Light is the key element for identifying darkness. Without a light source, we would not be able to define darkness.
Silently moving elements shape contrast and energy, an electromagnetic radiation.

'Valo' is an attempt to capture and recreate the traveling of light on colliding objects through a detailed and organic space. Reflections, shapes, movement and sound tell a story of harmonized illumination to alter a unconscious state of mind.

Korg Poly-800 played through Moog Sub Phatty

Published on Nov 19, 2013 msix Anthony·1 video

"A quick little video to demonstrate some of the sonic possibilities of substituting Korg Poly-800's filter with a Sub Phatty. Not a well prepared or imaginative one, just to give you the taste of this idea.

Poly-800 is sending MIDI to Sub Phatty to trigger it's gate and envelope and retrigger the LFO. Thus Sub Phatty becomes a natural extension to Poly-800 and provides it's multi-pole filter and multidrive circuit for polyphonic use.

Intro/outro music: https://soundcloud.com/messier6/ep-funk"

via Anthony Alfimov on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

On a side note, there are some notes there on the Poly-800 via Josh Nursing: "The Poly-800 filter is only limited by the lack of circuitry and control knobs in the Poly-800. It's actually a very powerful and fantastic-sounding filter once you mod the Poly-800, with 12/24dB/oct switchable mode, realtime cutoff and resonance. The actual limitations aren't in its filter but in its oscillator section..." You can find info on the Moog Slayer Mod here. They do come up pretty often on the site as you can see here. Standuino Announces New Brand & Product Line as Bastl Instruments

"We are happy to announce the launch of Bastl Instruments, new brand for electronic hand-made musical instruments, which continues the tradition set up by Standuino.

The first main product is Trinity - universal musical instrument and original sounding modular groovebox. It can function as any type of digital synthesizer, sequencer, controller, arpeggiator or almost anything that can be programmed into a micro-controller. Trinity is designed to be connected and combined with other Trinities of different functions in a chain, so you can create your own music making environment. It is ready to communicate with the outer world via MIDI and different sync and CV methods using MIDI Bastl. We are musicians passionate of exploring new fields of sonic experience - we already developed 4 different instruments for Trinity which work great together. They are sequencer, drum synthesizer, polyphonic synthesizer and monophonic FM synthesizer.…and there is many more to come!

All Trinity instruments have the same starting price: 60 eur for assembled instrument and 45 eur for a soldering kit.

Trinity is a finished musical instrument as much as an empty canvas. It is open for any sort of hacks both hardware and software. You can hack the existing softwares or write your own synth software from scratch using the Mozzi library for sound output. Because Trinity is based on Arduino, you can use the whole world of it to interface literally anything with it. Hardware hackability means that you can connect sensors or motors to it or sync it to any device. The softwares and examples are written in structured form so you can read and change them easily.

Standuino began in 2011 as artistic project giving tribute to Standa Filip, one of the pioneers of hand-made electronic instruments from Czech Republic. In 2013 Standuino cease to produce and sell musical instruments, but remains an artistic project aiming to bring up stories from the history and show the poetry of czechoslovakian DIY from the communist era. The reasons to bring up a new name and brand for the production of musical instruments itself were numerous. Most of all, Standuino began as an artistic project with different focus than development and sale of musical instruments. By separating these two poles, we want to clarify that Standuino is an active non-commercial cultural and artistic movement, whereas Bastl Instruments is a grown-up professional music instruments developer and producer. This split also comes from different structure of the hardware design. Whereas Stadnuino was intended as an universal prototyping platform, Bastl Instruments are primarily designed for sound production. The creative core team of Bastl Instruments remains the same as the team of Standuino: Ondřej Merta and Václav Peloušek. All production takes place in Brno, Czech Republic.

Graphic identity of Bastl Instruments was created by Anymade studio.

Haken Introduces the Continuum EaganMatrix Expander (CEE)

VlnVlaCelBass Published on Mar 19, 2013 HakenAudio·28 videos

Video example of the EaganMatrix in action. Official press release further below.

"This video is a demonstration of the VlnVlaCelBass sound on the Continuum Fingerboard, performed by Edmund Eagan. This EaganMatrix string sound has been programmed to take advantage of the Continuum's fast and accurate pressure sensing. Playing this sound with low velocity finger movement will create a smooth gentle start to each note. After the note starts volume and timbre changes can be applied by changing the pressure on the surface.

When played with a harder finger velocity, the sound gets more aggressive in it's attack. This is due to the inclusion of timbre data that represents a real string attack.

The name of the sound includes the four names of the orchestral string family, violin, viola, cello, and double bass, reflecting the combined pitch range of these instruments. The sound is equally convincing and expressive at all pitches, even at the extremes.
Pressing the first foot pedal activates a mono mode which makes it easier to play fast monophonic intervals, such as whole tone or minor third trills.

The overall tonal character of the instrument can be changed by moving the Size barrel. Lower values of Size will create a larger sounding instrument, higher values a smaller one.

The VlnVlaCelBass uses the GrainSilo in the EaganMatrix, with a timbre element called Vla Sustained. The original source for this timbre element came from the first 100 milliseconds of a single note preformed by Rudolf Haken on a Pellegrina 5 string viola. This 100 milliseconds contains essential attack and sustain spectra. Through the power of the EaganMatrix formula structures, control of the timbre elements reference point, fundamental, spectral rolloff, spectral shift, and amplitude is mapped to the playing surface. The three dimensional performance of each finger can translate into exquisite control of this finite piece of data."

Press release:

"Haken Audio’s Continuum EaganMatrix Expander (CEE) provides increased polyphony for EaganMatrix sounds. The EaganMatrix Expander triples the computation power of the Continuum Fingerboard, thereby tripling the polyphony of EaganMatrix sounds. This increased polyphony is most useful for EaganMatrix sounds that require polyphony greater than the number of fingers simultaneously touching the surface, such as percussive sounds with releases that continue to sound after the finger is lifted from the playing surface.

In addition to this increased polyphony, the EaganMatrix Expander also provides balanced analog audio outputs and localized i2c connections to the other Continuum Fingerboard accessory, the Continuum Voltage Converter. The EaganMatrix Expander can be used as a desktop device, or mounted in a standard 19 inch rack using the optional rack ears."

New Firmware version 6.00

New System Presets

Firmware 6.00 includes 23 new EaganMatrix System Presets handcrafted by Edmund Eagan. A video demonstrating some of these new sounds will be online at Haken Audio soon. In addition, the Pluck Tine specialty sound is now available again.

New Mode for EaganMatrix Oscillator: Expose Phase

Expose Phase will output the oscillator’s internal phase value. This is equivalent to a non-bandlimited sawtooth. The oscillator’s phase value is a sum of 7 detuned phase generators. The resulting sound is similar to the layered sound of mutiple detuned saw tooth oscillators.

New Type of Shape Generator: Phase from Amplitude

The existing Single Cycle and Continuous Cycle SGs are Low Frequency Oscillators (LFOs), with Frequency and Trigger input columns in the matrix. In contrast, the new Phase from Amplitude SGs are Low Frequency Waveshapers (LFWs), with a Phase input column in the matrix.

Phase from Amplitude SGs can be used to implement an amplitude follower. Connect the audio-rate signal to be followed to the SG’s P column. Then select this SG in a formula, select a Ramp SG shape, and adjust the formula's persistence and interpolation controls for smooth following.

Extended BiqMode and BiqBank: 48 Resonances

The existing BiqMode and BiqBank modules have 8 resonances. With the new Extended option, these now have 48 resonances; the Extended BiqMode Amplitude Graphs allow you to specify 48 mode amplitudes, and the BiqBank computes 48 biquad bandpass filters.

New Module Names: Spectral Manipulator and SineSpray

The GrainSilo has been renamed Spectral Manipulator, and the MultiGrain module has been renamed SineSpray. Several matrix columns in these modules have also been renamed, to better reflect their functions.

New Capabilities for the Ancillary Formula Mechanism

The Ancillary Formula Mechanism now has a Domain option, so it can affect just one formula component. Also, incoming Midi Clock can be referenced in the Ancillary Formula Mechanism; this can be used to synchronize envelopes, delay times, or adjust timbral parameters according to the performer’s tempo.

Y-Dependent Instant Round Pedals

Two new switch pedals will turn on Instant Round (Round Rate 127) for fingers at low or high Y position:

cc18 on ch 16: instant round for finger y < .5 cc19 on ch 16: instant round for finger y > .5

This pedal functionality is available for the Continuum’s pedal jacks, when InstRnd is selected in the Editor. This functionality was requested by Mark Smart.

ESI MidiMate II

The Editor will automatically detect the ESI MidiMate II, and automatically connect without any configuration required. The MidiMate II is an attractive USB-Midi interface, but it will only work with Continuums running firmware version 6.00 and later.

Additional Editor Improvements

The Overload Protect indicator can be enabled or disabled for overload protection.

The Editor’s System Preset popup now lists the Internal Sound Number for each preset.

The Z Encoding allows you to select Channel Pressure.

In the future, when you update your version 6.00 firmware to a later firmware number, your Continuum will automatically power cycle after Update File 1. This is the last firmware update that requires manual power cycle.

Available now!

Version 6.00 firmware is available for free in the resources section of the Haken Audio site. Before using the new firmware we recommend you check out the newly-revised user guides for the Continuum, EaganMatrix, EaganMatrix Expander, and CVC."

KiNK on Pressure Points

Published on Nov 19, 2013 kink303·23 videos

"Hi :) This is a demonstration of four Pressure Points eurorack modules, including few other components by Make Noise. The first two blocks are linked with Brains module and used as step sequencer, taking clock from Maths module. They are sending back different CV to Maths "Decay" parameter, so the clock makes "swing" effect with different values per step, also gate back to Maths, to reset the clock when I touch them. They also send CV to the Dual Prismatic Oscilator and gate to the "strike" inputs of the DPO and Optomix (a Lowpass Gate). The first two P.Points are also sending pressure CV to the "Fold" input of DPO, which generates more harmonics when I press the modules. The 3rd P.Points is sending CV to Maths Attack parameter and to Brains "reset" input, so when i touch it - the current note is being looped and extended or shortened, depends on the different Attack value per key. The 4th PPoints is sending CV to the exponential input of the DPO, changing the general tune of the oscilator. A Wogglebug module is adding little randomness through its Woggle output in DPO FM Buss input. I hope you`ll like it, much more to come when I finish and learn the system, this is just a warm up :)"
