Analog and Digital Synthesizers System Controlled by Computer MIDI Sequencer P-2 (tempo)

Follow the link above for technical information about this project.
Detailed set-up diagram for this video link: http://www.mzentertainment.com/pics/a...

This is Dr ZEE Workshop 4 channel Analog AUDIO (AC) to GATE / TRIGGER and Vc CONVERTER unit in action demonstration.
In this set-up example a Computer MIDI-sequencer software controlls a hybrid Analog Sequence / Synthesizer and Digital Synthesizers system.
Dr ZEE WORKSHOP 4-channel Analog Audio-To-Gate / Trigger / Vc / Clock (puls) converter unit is being used to convert audio signals from designated MIDI-Synth tracks to Trigger(s) and Puls (clock) to drive analog Sequencer and Analog Drum / Rhythm Synthesiser.
This set-up makes it possible to incorporate various analog synthethizers (sequential or direct) into today's conventional Digital MIDI Synth / Digital Audio Music Production Process.

This is PART-2 demonstration video.
In this segment computer MIDI sequencer TEMPO is being adjusted. It demonstrates how Analog synth grove is being affected by changing MIDI-tempo to Analog Sequencer Clock "speed".

Elektron Analog Four destroying a drum loop

Published on Mar 2, 2014 Jimmy Myhrman·32 videos

"An example of filtering and distorting a techno drum loop through a single voice on the Elektron Analog Four. The sequencer is used to automate the filter envelope in some different exciting ways, to create new rhythms. Things get really dirty =) The ladder filter sounds amazing when driven really hard like this, very interesting harmonics."

illucia: playable networks & videogame instruments by chris novello - last run of units!

illucia: playable networks & videogame instruments by chris novello from paperkettle on Vimeo.

illucia.com is recently finished, and collects all sorts of material.
- illucia dtr patchbay controller (open source hardware)
- several new games and programs (free & open source)
- a game library for Processing that supports patch points (free & open source)

A few hand built units are available in the store at the moment. I'm pretty sure that is the last run.

http://www.illucia.com
http://www.twitter.com/paperkettle

"illucia is a patchbay controller by chris novello. It lets you use physical cables to connect things like videogames, music software, text editors, synthesizers, and more. It has a free suite of interconnectable games and software, plus it speaks OSC so it works with many existing programs. illucia is open source hardware & software (and built with Arduino and Processing), so you're free to reimagine/remix/replicate it in any way.

music: "Intro" from Vacation Wasteland EP by Slime Girls
http://slimegirls.bandcamp.com/music"

illucia: using a videogame to remix music from paperkettle on Vimeo.

"illucia dtr is a patchbay controller for connecting computer programs.

Life Sequencer is a game in the illucia suite - it uses falling blocks to build step sequencer patterns (it is also remixable by Conway's Game of Life). Also, it doesn't actually make any sound - it just makes data using OSC. You can then take that data and send it to any computer programs... like Ableton Live or Max.

Behind the scenes (not shown in the video), Ableton and Max have some audio samplers running.

As I play Life Sequencer, it builds step sequencer patterns. I then patch the data from the step sequencer into the music samplers (so that the sample playhead moves around based on the block patterns in the game). I use cables to select and layer samples, and then I speed up the playback and audio pitch with illucia's knobs. Eventually I patch in some sample rate reduction (and a special glitchy mode on Life Sequencer) right as I trigger the Conway's Game of Life pattern remixer. The Conway algorithm eats through most of the existing blocks, and then I start placing more blocks to build a new pattern.

The illucia patchbay then becomes a physical controller for exploring these strange connections & reconsidering the inner lives of computer programs."

illucia & aalto: patching a videogame into a synth from paperkettle on Vimeo.

"This is a loose experiment using illucia with aalto by madrona labs. First I use illucia to control aalto, then I patch data from PCO (a ball&paddle game) into aalto, thus making a videogame control a synthesizer.

Gory details:

The first half of the video: illucia controls parameters on aalto (the patchbay triggers different aalto presets). aalto is a really nice synth, and it especially opens up when married with a physical controller.

In the second half, I bring in PCO (a game in illucia's software suite with paddles that block moving balls).
Before the clip, I had pre-patched the Y position of colliding balls into parameters on aalto. As the second half starts, I patch illucia to activate ball generation oscillators for PCO. Then, as those balls collide with paddles, their Y positions get sent into aalto, effectively using a videogame to control a synthesizer. I let it sit for a while just to see what strange behavior and sounds emerge when patching these two usually-unrelated programs."

Fairlight Concept-FW1 Keyboard?

This one was spotted by Nino. You can find it at Crudebyte, an engineering design firm. There's no info other than the image as one of their design examples:

"Success of a product strongly depends on how well the Product Design was elaborated before even starting to work on the first prototype. We help you by immediately turning your ideas into visual realistic sketches, like for example illustrated below."

You might recall Peter Vogel Instruments  relaunched the Fairlight CMA-30A (see here, here and here).  There are rumors that Peter Vogel might be working on a new synth and there are people that seriously want it to happen. Buchla Music Easel Semi Random Poly Rhythmic 01

Published on Mar 2, 2014 djangosfire·172 videos

"Of course... you can play organized, repeatable melodic phrases with the New Easel.... BUT personally, it's the corralled-chaos along with shifting semi-random pitch and timbral shifts that make the Buchla so unique!

For this "semi-random poly rhythmic" exercise.... I used a 281r as the clock source (you can see me flip it on at the top of the vid). I had the 281r patched into itself causing a nice semi-random, but nicely divided feel.

Also, I'm running the Buchla Music Easel into a Malekko 616 Analog Delay.

All other sounds created in real-time on the Easel.

Thank you for checking out the sounds!

Node - Live !!!

Published on Mar 26, 2012

"This video pairs up two Node concerts: The visuals from Paddington Station & the sound from their EMMA concert. This has not been done for any reason other than a passion for the band & to see if I could do it convincingly (The version here was my original demo to see how it would come out). Rumours of a new album, possibly even a box set are all over the place. If anyone could bring this clip to the attention of the band, I'll be happy to send the band the complete master for inclusion in any future release.

You've been away too long lads!"

Philip Glass - Metamorphosis Two [piano + synth]

Published on Feb 27, 2014 Piano in a Living Room·47 videos

via Olivier Lebra on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"Metamorphosis Two, from Philip Glass' Solo Piano album composed in 1989. This part is also the theme from the film The Hours.

I skipped some repetitions, and as usual I made several mistakes, although I'm proud to say this take was my 4th take of this piece ever, it's pretty simple (and so repetitive that playing it is like practicing it haha, it's like these exercises my piano teacher made me do over and over - it's paying off!) I may rerecord it with all the repetitions and hopefully less mistakes.

The instrument is a Clavia Nord Stage 2 using a sampled Steinway Model D grand piano, with reverb, delay, and some dark synth.

"The MTX9 is billed as a Tom Tom and Latin Drum Expander, and was a complement to the Simmons SDS9. It features a 13 sound sample library with 11 shown on the top panel, and two not listed (a snare and another tom). The MTX9 also provides some synthesis parameters on the front panel for tailoring the sound of each of its three drum channels.

On this unit, the buttons are immediately responsive and the LED display and lights are bright and clear. The knobs are not scratchy, and the individual drum outputs are clean and loud. The mix output sounds great and the external tom inputs, trigger inputs, and trigger thru-puts are working as well.

I tried the MIDI input, but was not able to generate a response after some brief testing. I don't have a manual, and am unsure of the MIDI channel or note assignments, so I may have missed something..."

"Just a short demonstration of a 1960's Stylophone using the camera audio and then line out audio. Casio MT 600 demo track

Published on Mar 1, 2014 ikworgek·62 videos

"All sounds from the casio.
some reverb and delay.

The MT-600 was a non-programmable home keyboard variant of the HT-700. While not technically a synthesizer (the tones could not be altered and new sounds could not be created), it used the SD synthesis engine and had the same preset patches as the HZ-600 (arranged in a different order). The case of the MT-600 was smaller than the HZ-600, with only 49 mini-keys, but as a home keyboard it did include stereo speakers and auto-accompaniment. The MT-600 included a pitch-bender, which was unusual for home keyboards at the time. Unlike the HZ-600, the pitch bend range was not selectable. Auto-accompaniment used a fixed bass patch, and the "lower tone" sounds of the HZ-600 for chords. Drums were low-resolution 8-bit PCM samples and resembled an expanded Casio SK-5 drumkit. The MT-600 was 3-part mutitimbral for use as a MIDI sound source."

Retr0bright Yellow Key Restoration on a Moog Little Phatty

Published on Mar 1, 2014 Syntegrator·369 videos

"Yellowed plastic is a real problem in any vintage collectible: Dingy yellow-brown parts are unpleasant to behold and severely reduce the appeal of toys, technology and (naturally) our precious and treasured synthesizers. There is a way to get those yellowed parts back to their original color, provided you are ready to mix up some caustic chemicals and hang out in the lab for a few days, which I (of course) did when faced with a chain-smoked Little Phatty keyboard.

Here is a single video (edited from 23 video recordings taken over a 3 day period) in which I apply the Retr0brite process to a severely yellowed synthesizer keybed (and its controller wheels) and get some impressively good results by the end. With the right gear and precautions, it can be done!

For more information be sure to check out the retr0brite.wikispaces.com website - Shouts out to Merlin, Lorne, Tezza and the rest for pioneering the Retr0bright formula and process!"
