Multivox MX 3000 vintage synthesizer demo

"Demonstrating some of the sounds from a rare synth of the late 70's. I fixed up this old gem and have been very happy with the results. This is really three in one: a bass synth, a lead synth, and a divide down polysynth.
I start off by playing the full keyboard to show it all works (in case I regrettably have to sell)
No extra processing going on, just recorded audio from iMovie. I did pan the dry poly channel a little bit.."

via this auction
"This Prophet T8 analog synthesizer (Serial 1008-000742, 3.8 Main ROM, 3.7 LS and MS ROM) works but needs some care and repair. It has the following issues that we can detect:
1) Unit has been stored in an Anvil metal case for around 8 years. The case foam decayed, leaving a sticky residue on the unit. We have cleaned the exterior as best we can, but there is still some slight staining of metal and wooden surfaces and some foam has gotten inside the unit. The black paint or enamel on some of the knobs appears to be loosening. There are some minor scratches on the top lid, and chipped paint on one edge of the lid. The F and G keys in the highest octave have odd spacing, the G key rides a bit high and highest C a bit low but this does not appear to affect play.
2) The Anvil case is solid and sturdy on the outside and has average wear. Inside, its protective foam has deteriorated into sticky powder and has been removed. New foam can be easily purchased and glued in to refurbish the case. The synthesizer will be secured in temporary packaging inside this case for shipment.
3) The T8 has 8 voices. In Split mode, 4 voices are assigned to the right side of the keyboard and the other 4 are assigned to the left. (The point between right and left can be adjusted to any key you choose.) In Single mode, all 8 voices play the sound of your choice (right or left), and in Double mode, a pair of voices (one from the right and one from the left) plays each note, for a total of 4 pairs.
On this particular T8, all 4 voices on the right appear to work properly. 3 of the voices on the left have some problems. (One of those is different in a minor way). It's probably just one component in each voice that needs to be replaced. Without replacing them, those voices play sounds, but not the same sound as is desired (one is close but not exactly correct; the other two seem very different). It is possible to disable a voice easily, just hold down a key that's playing the bad sound, and at the same time hold down RECORD (the red button) and press 7. After that, the disabled voice will not play until the unit is turned off and on again, the processor will just choose a different voice to use instead.)
4) The factory presets have been overwritten. If you get a cassette of the digital data for the presets, you can load them back into the T8 through a cassette port. Or you can save your own presets, of course."

"This is an unmodified Univox K-2 synth circa 1973. Serial #00953. The synth was also sold as the Korg Mini-Korg 2 or the MiniKorg 700S. It is a monophonic analog synth with dual oscillators.
It has a great, fat, warm sound.
I won't go into the specifics about this model since I would assume that you already know what it is if you are seriously thinking about bidding on it. Instead, I will describe the specific instrument up for auction.
Everything is original except for the third octave "A" key which was replaced with an "old-new stock" key, the original plywood side panels were replaced with hardwood (Ash) side panels, and the output jacks were replaced as part of a recent servicing.
The keyboard was recently serviced (5/5/14) by synthesizer specialists Sam Mims and Gerald Dentro at Syntaur in New Braunfels, TX. They cleaned all the switches and faders, replaced the output jacks, and gave it a clean bill of health.
Everything functions as it should except that the power light does not light. Since I could not find an original replacement, I left it alone."

RePatched: Modular Synthesizers in Japan Documentary on Kickstarter
This one in via Zoe Blade. Via the Kickstarter campaign:
"Chronicling the history of modular synths in Japan from the 1970s to the new generation of Japanese modular synth enthusiasts.
Hi there! こんにちは We’re a small team of passionate independent filmmakers producing a documentary about the current resurgence of interest in modular synthesizers in Japan, featuring interviews with some of the enthusiasts, manufacturers and artists in the growing scene, as well as some of the out-of-this-world sounds being produced in Japan right now.
Though not as immediately recognized as their Moog and Buchla cousins, large Japanese musical instrument manufacturers such as Roland and Korg produced their own unique takes on modular and semi-modular synthesizers back in the mid-to-late 1970s.
In addition to covering some of these influential synths from the past, we will be examining the relative disappearance of modular synthesizers in Japan after domestic production halted, and the corresponding blossoming of the DIY hardware/synth scene which continues to this day.
Lastly, we will be shining a spotlight on the growing modular synthesizer movement that is taking Japan by storm as access to both European and North American modules increases. We're also looking to cover the exciting development of the first Japanese-manufactured commercial modular synthesizers in many decades. We're looking to thoroughly document the 2014 Tokyo Festival of Modular, a two-day extravaganza with its finger on the pulse of the modular synthesizer scene."

"In 1987 Yamaha released their DX7II which included a number of enhancements over the original and, in 1988, they released the TX802 FM Tone Generator. TheTX802 features the synth engine of the Yamaha DX7 II but it is 8 part multitimbral (can play 8 different sounds at once) so much more complex sounds can be created and layered in such a way that it could be said that it is, roughly, equivalent in power to 8 DX7 II synths"

Update: "Fantastic and nearly perfect ARP 2600... perfectly playable, has NOT been upgraded or modded. Calibrated and adjusted by Ed Miller, LA - Area synth tech on 5/22/14. Newly tightened and cleaned keyboard connector, unit is completely STOCK and near perfect condition. UNPOTTED submodules means that this synth can be worked on easily, but at this point in time is PERFECT and needs NOTHING electronically, keyboard tracks perfectly. THIS IS A MONSTER SYNTH AND SOUNDS FANTASTIC.
It is a 2601 model, so one of the last made, therefore in much better condition than earlier models - All sliders and controls function smoothly, no corrosion on any component, including the interior electronics. Purchased from a professional recording studio, not a "touring" machine. Silk-screening is pristine, The machine looks brand-new. Less than usual wear on Tolex, for a synth nearing 30 years of age and a thoughtfully smoothed over corner of the keyboard case shows some wood. Keyboard could benefit from rebushing, but ALL KEYS TRACK PERFECTLY and the machine is guaranteed to be playable as a musical instrument upon arrival. One slightly discolored key, Mr. Miller tells me this is because of differences in plastic dyes used during manufacture.
Complex and infinitely adjustable machine, but a novice can get it running within ten minutes without any manual at all. Just work from left to right and follow the silkscreened flow chart. Much simpler (and also much more complex) than it appears.
6 patch cords included, no manuals, but these are easily downloadable or obtained from other ebayers. Also including two 1/8" to 1/4" patch cords for audio output to your amp, otherwise playable through the "reference" internal speakers."

Theremini | Dorit Chrysler
Published on May 28, 2014 Moog Music Inc ·266 videos
"Dorit Chrysler, co-founder of the New York Theremin Society, uses her looping pedal to explore the sonic possibilities of the Theremini, Moog's latest addition to the theremin family.
The Theremini is a re-imagination of one of the oldest electronic musical instruments in history, and Bob Moog's first love -- the Theremin. Its design fuses the experience of performing with an instrument you don't actually touch, with a powerful sound engine derived from Moog's award winning synthesizer, Animoog. The Theremini guarantees immediate success to any player at any skill level, while providing new ways to experiment with music, education, and gestural control.
Assistive pitch quantization allows each player to adjust the instrument's level of playing difficulty. At the maximum position, the Theremini will play every note in a selected scale perfectly, making it impossible to play a wrong note. As this control is decreased, more expressive control of pitch and vibrato becomes possible. When set to minimum, the Theremini will perform as a traditional Theremin - the analog heterodyning oscillator controls pitch and there is absolutely no assistance.

New Intellijel Springray - Full Featured Spring Reverb Module
via Intellijel
"There are many excellent digital reverbs available these days but there is still nothing quite like the timeless and magical character of a true spring reverb.
At Intellijel we have a huge love for true analog devices and it has always been important for us to explore as many of these fundamental analog building blocks of synthesis as possible.
In the development of this module we were blown away by how much there is to explore. Each tank has a totally different set of chanacteristics and there were many unexpected surprises when feeding it a wide variety of sound sources. One of the most interesting results was how a slow attack saw waveform from a Dixie almost sounds like a realistic cello!
Features:
PRE tank and POST tank Ambler Tilt EQ
VC Feedback
Limiter in feedback path so you can prevent high gain feedback from clipping the output. (Uses THATcorp RMS and VCA ICs)
Selector switch to choose up to three different connected tanks (one on the front and two on the back)
VC Mix of the wet/dry balance (uses a full linear VCA xfade circuit)
Drive input with large gain (can overdrive the tank inputs)
External processors can be inserted into the feedback path via the SEND/RETURN normalled inputs. Extremely interesting results when patched through modulated BP filters etc.
Three different sizes of Accutronic tanks are available"

Limited Edition Pittsburgh Modules Starting with the Dual Ring
via Pittsburgh Modular
"We are starting a line of limited edition modules as a way to share some of our more esoteric designs with the world. The modules will range from chaotic and noisy, to simple, to over the top. Each production run will be limited to 50 modules, and each module will be hand signed and numbered on the rear of the panel. All limited edition modules will be available for sale exclusively on shop.pittsburghmodular.com, and once they are gone, they are gone.
We are pleased to announce the Dual Ring, our first limited edition module. The Dual Ring houses a pair of ring modulators with linked inputs and an output mixer, creating unique sonic and signal routing possibilities. The Dual Ring was a request of our good friend Dave Skipper. We were a little skeptical at first but the results prove this was an inspired idea."
[The Dual Ring houses a pair of ring modulators with linked inputs and an output mixer creating unique sonic and signal routing possibilities. Each ring modulator offers 3 types of effects based around the classic ring modulation circuit.
A ring modulator multiplies two audio inputs together resulting in a unique form of amplitude modulation or frequency mixing. The output is the sum and difference of the frequencies present in each waveform. Ring modulation produces a signal rich in harmonic and non-harmonic tones often sounding metallic or bell-like.
The individual ring modulation circuits in the Dual Ring can be used independently, mixed, or chained together resulting in a large palate of uniquely rich and complex tones.
Effect 1: Ring Modulator - (Switch Full Left) Outputs the sum and difference of the X and Y inputs.
Effect 2: Floating Z Modulator - (Switch in Center Position) Outputs the sum and difference of the X and Y inputs summed with the ambient voltage within the circuit.
Effect 3: Linear Amplitude Modulator - (Switch Full Right) Outputs the sum and difference of the X and Y inputs summed with the carrier (Y) signal."
via Pittsburgh Modular on what it's like to be a boutique modular manufacturer and why they decided to come out with the limited edition modules:
"Three years ago Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers started as a crazy idea to sell a few strange, handmade modules out of a basement. Thanks to your enormous response to those modules we've grown meteorically.
Shipping modules and instruments in large numbers takes a tremendous amount of time and resources. Resources that we can not commit to every idea we have. While we have been working hard to expand and improve our manufacturing capabilities, at heart Pittsburgh Modular is still a small company that remains committed to producing high quality, hand made electronic instruments. Over the past few years, we have chosen to focus our energy on modules that make up the core of our amazing synthesizers. Because of this, we have a lot of concepts and a lot of modules that were designed but never sold. Most of our ideas are too strange to fit in with what Pittsburgh Modular has become and it would be impossible for us to maintain a product line that included all of our designs. Still, we want the modules for our systems so here is the idea..."

Ace: Prophet 08, Tempest, Lil Phatty
Kyle: Guitars
Jeffrey: Vocals and Bells
This is the fifth and final video in a five part series titled layers. Everything in this series was created using layers, thus the title. This song started with the Prophet 08 patch, which was Ace's first deep venture into the prophets sequencing abilities. Then He added the drums and bass. Then Kyle got the track, while he was still in IL, and added the guitar parts. Ace then mixed it a bit, sent it to Jeff, who added 8 different parts, using glockenspiel in very unique ways as well as adding his amazing and unique vocals. It has more layers than any track in the past, and it fits the stories conclusion. I hope you enjoy!
V: Kairos
My feet began to move with purpose and direction. I knew where my travels were leading me. My plans stood before me, showing me all that the world had to offer. With my heart leading the way, my mind was able to once again take in this perfect moment, now fulfilled by purpose, context, and cause. The world was painting its extravagant artwork all around me. But, this time I was not an observer, trying with futility to drink it in. I was a part of it. Every stroke of light bounced off me, casting shadows against the rocks as I moved upward. My feet left soft wet footprints as I climbed. I was not an idle consumer of the worlds majesty, I was intrinsically bound to it, participating in it, and engaged by it.
As I reached the top, the wind blew wildly around me, kicking up leaves and dust in chaotic, swirling patterns. I danced through the chaos, adding my notes to the cacophony. The dust whipped against my clothes, the sun beat against my skin. Down below waves crashed and slowly weathered away at the rocks. It was a perfect, deliberate moment, made of chaos and complexity. There was rhythm, hidden in the noise, all I had to do was find it.
All I needed was this crucial experience of breaking and mending. The beach found me lost. The cliffs broke me down. The cavern healed my wounds. The morning gave me purpose. I had found the patterns in the static and now nothing could stop me."

Zero-G - Extreme Environments Sample Library from Si Begg

"For full product details please visit: http://www.timespace.com/product/EE-1...
Produced by Si Begg, the man behind other Zero-G titles including Distorted Dancefloors and Electro Glitch Essentials, Extreme Environments is a unique sound design tool that allows you to quickly and easily create dense and complex ambiences, ranging from musical pads through to realistic room tones and extreme sound design.
The main feature of Extreme Environments is the Kontakt instrument which combines a state-of-the-art user interface with the loops and impulse responses to give you a highly flexible tool for creating a huge variety of beds, drones, pads and FX. It comes with over 150 presets.
The core of the instrument is the three channels where you can select any one of the 142 loops. For each channel you can then control the pitch, time stretch, amplitude & filter envelopes, saturation and reverb send. All three channels are then mixed together and put through master high pass and low pass filters, then finally a limiter.
The other key part of the instrument is the convolution reverb, which any of the three channels can be sent to. You can choose any one of the 86 bespoke impulse responses, ranging from straightforward to extreme sound design. This adds great depth and atmospheric detail beyond the standard reverbs you might usually come across. The combination of all these features makes for an almost limitless palette of sound creation.
In addition the EXS24 instruments, Apple Loops, Space Designer presets and Channel Strip Settings give Logic Pro X users the option of creating their own combinations of sounds and FX within Logic. Also, the raw audio loops can also be used as building blocks to create your own beds and drones."
Sauce of Unce 1

"First test with this circuit. It is intended to be functionally the same as the Buchla 265 SOU but has had a number of changes to use common off-the-shelf components. The PCB is Eurorack compatible and Pots, sockets & LEDs are all soldered directly to the PCB, no wiring.
In this vid, the module outputs are simply connected to the CV in of a VCO. First the Random voltage output (smooth) and then the Stored Random voltage output (stepped). The outputs range from 0-10V but can be adjusted to reduce to a lower range if desired."
