Verbos Bark Filter Processor Videos by Learning Modular

Playlist:

1. Verbos Bark Filter 1/4: Basic Operation (LMS Eurorack Expansion Project)

"This first of four movies on the Verbos Electronics Bark Filter Processor plays with using it as an extreme graphic equalizer or multiband formant filter while giving an overview of its large number of inputs, outputs, and controls. The last minute and a half explains what the Bark Scale is, which is what sets this module apart from other “spectral processors” that that use an octave-based system for their frequency bands.

2. Verbos Bark Filter 2/4: Voltage Control (LMS Eurorack Expansion Project)

"This second of four movies on the Verbos Electronics Bark Filter Processor shows how to use the Frequency Scan and Spectral Tilt sections to control which frequency bands are opened up. I first both the front panel knobs, and then voltage control these sections using a knob, slider, and XY touch pad from a controller keyboard. As several Verbos modules also feature Scan and Tilt sections, this also acts as a primer for controlling those modules."

3. Verbos Bark Filter 3/4: Vocoding (LMS Eurorack Expansion Project)

"This third of four movies on the Verbos Electronics Bark Filter Processor focuses on using it as a vocoder. One input can be routed to 6 of its 12 bands, generating voltages that follow the strength of the first input signal in each of those bands. A second input can then be routed to the other six bands, controlled by the voltages generated by the first set of bands and therefore imposing the harmonic signature of the first sound onto the second. I demonstrate using this trick to have percussion loops (its strength), voice, and sound effects or ambiences filter your synth’s sound."

4. Verbos Bark Filter 4/4: Envelope Followers (LMS Eurorack Expansion Project)

"This fourth of four movies on the Verbos Electronics Bark Filter Processor focuses on using the independent envelope followers attached to each of its 12 bands to trigger other sounds (in this case, a Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas and an Erica Synths Pico Drums). I talk a bit about choosing different frequency bands to isolate different sounds, and demonstrate using a trigger delay (from a Roland 572) to clean up spurious triggers."

In particular im using the Single Cycle Waveforms which can be found in the Toolbox Directory.

There are much more of these Single Cycle Waveforms available on the Internet. The most known Collection is probably the one created from Adventure Kid (AKWF Waveforms). You can find this huge collection of Single Cycle Waveforms here:

Vintage Moog Synth & Swag Spotting at the Kohoutek Festival 1984 @ Pitzer College

Published on Aug 4, 2016

Check this out. The first band has lots of Moog swag including the elusive painters hat/cap, t-shirts, and of course the synths. Curious if it they were sponsored by Moog. You can also spot a Roland Strings RS-202 I believe, and an Oberheim OB-8. Don't miss the "Have You Had Your Moog Modified Today" shirt. Thought that was pretty cool/interesting considering. It meant there was enough of a focus on modding your synths to market it.

The second band appears to have a Yamaha SK30. P.S. Almost thought the announcer said "Rik Ocasek and his band". :)

'MUSIC IN THE DARK' MINI-CASSETTE CON-CERT CON-DUCTED BY GEN KEN MONTGOMERY, SUNDAY AUGUST 6 @5PM

In 1989, CON sent GEN KEN 2 cassettes with which to CON-duct 'Music in the Dark' CON-certs in quad stereo, when octophonic sound was not available. These cassette were used in Generator, where GEN KEN was proprietor, to bring CON's sounds to New York dwellers, when he himself could not be present. On the evening of August 6, you are invited to participate in 'Music in the Dark,' CON-ducted by GEN KEN. This event will use CON's original recordings. These original cassettes, cassettes from Conrad Schnitzler's cassette organ, and remains of the fallen Berlin Wall collected by CON and mailed to GEN KEN - will be on display throughout the weekend.

With special thanks to the deep archive of collaborator Gen Ken Montgomery @generations_unlimited, who provided all archival materials for this show.

1. 01- The Analogue Solutions Fusebox- Introduction
"Here is a piece of music created with the new Analogue Solutions Fusebox. All of the tonal aspects were created with the Fusebox. The song is based on a live performance of the bass line using a combination of the Interval Generator and the Patternator. These two functions, when used together, can create extremely expressive, changing, and changeable sequences.
An entire series on the Fusebox is forthcoming.

Most of the drums in this song were sequenced on an Ensoniq EPS-16+ using a combination of drum samples from a variety of sources, including the Alesis SR-16.

Chords, melodies, harmonies, sound effects, automated arpeggiation, and one drum fill were all multitracked after-the-fact."

Details via wolfgangpalm.com

"At the end of the 70s Wolfgang Palm developed wavetable synthesis. This was very successful and used by many synthesizer companies in the 80s and 90s. But this technology has its limitations. The main reason is that all sounds are harmonic. In nature this does not happen very often. Many sounds like a piano string have small offsets from the harmonic frequencies. This is even stronger in sounds like bells or percussion.

Infinite overcomes this limitation.

Sonic Pi V3 and the Mother-32

The Mad Music Machine
Published on Aug 2, 2017

"A family day out in Brighton led to us stumbling across the GAK musical instrument store. Inside we tried out various equipment before deciding that the Moog Mother-32 would make a great additional voice for the Mad Music Machine.

Here's our first test of it with Sonic Pi V3"

And:

Mutant Snare & Mutant Hihats added to the Mad Music Machine

"We added the Mutant Snare and Mutant Hihats to the Mad Music Machine today - but soon realised we didn't have enough patch cables to connect everything up the way we wanted!

So we modified our existing Sonic Pi drum machine code to work with external MIDI and ran the drum modules through the System-1m to the Trigger Out.

We then set up a simple System-1m patch to use the 4 MIDI notes as they passed through to the drum modules"

Behringer Model D Demo/Comparison (by Synthpro)

Published on Aug 2, 2017

"Hello Everyone,

This is a demo of the Behringer model D. I am a beta tester for this unit and I go over some of my first impressions as far as build quality, features, tone quality, and even a direct comparison to a real vintage minimoog model D from 1972, (The Real Test). Note: this vintage minimoog has the rev 2 oscillators, (not the oscillator using the thermally regulated voltage to exponential current converter UA726) and all other boards are original as well.

This Behringer Model D has left a great first impression with myself but I leave you guys to be the judge.

There will be another video covering the noise source as well as the EG controlling the pitch, forgot to cover that in this video.

I want to send a very special thank you to Uli Behringer for the opportunity to test and demo this unit.

P.S
For the Moog Fans:
I have to be completely honest, this was one of the toughest videos I have made because of the fact Im a huge moog enthusiast, (as you can see from so many of my other videos) but I also have say that the new moog music has made a critical mistake in business, they brought back something without owning all the rights. I hate it for moog but at the same time I wish all the best to them and hope this experience kick starts them back into engineering shape, ( I would love to see something new from moog). I have never heard of a company moving forward by going backwards and I leave it at that.

Thanks for watching!

Sincerely,
Jareth"

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #31: E-MU Morpheus - Song 2

Christian's Sonic Spaces
Published on Aug 2, 2017

"Another E-MU Morpheus song ;-) It's a Z-Plane Synthesizer which has an unique filter morphing technology that can create organic spacy sounds. So it's good for ambient too ;-)

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Morpheus - Elektron Analog Heat - EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath - TC Electronic Mimiq - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - DigiTech Polara. The used fx varied depending on the recorded track.

The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.

To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with just a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track.

Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)"

Both oscillators share a set of 4 * 8 Wavetables that can be interpolated.
It has 8 modes of operation:

FM
Fractal Saw
Additive asymmetrical wrapper
Multiplying symmetrical wrapper
Bitkiller (subtle)
Phase Slave
And Xor Slaves
Squeeze/sync

pitch tracking is 5 octaves, 1V/oct. And can be offset +5 octaves with the coarse/fine controls. Additionally the pitch can be modified by the pitch mod inputs +/- 5 octaves.

Osc1 can be switched down one octave, and osc2 switched down 8 osctaves.

Osc2 can either follow osc1 or run free, by flipping the link switch.

All CV inputs are 0-5V but the pitch mod that is -5/+5. All inputs are protected against voltages outside that range, but inputting a non expected voltage may result in unexpected behavior."

"I am currently on a residency in Madrid, and unfortunately again didn't have a lot of time for this jam. I know this selection of modules can sound more complete and controlled, maybe next week :) But there are some nice sounds, and I did got to mess around with the Disting playing drumloops and clocking the rest of the rig. There are some very audible out of sync moments, but there is potential here. All drum samples but the kick where made from street recordings made here in Madrid.

If you are interested in learning more about my residency you can find more info on a blog I keep on my visual arts website: http://rkamerbeek.nl/espositivo.html

All sounds are from the modular, the laptop is only used for recording. Disting mk4 is the sample player, sending clocked triggers. Main sound is the Doepfer a143-4 square mix out through the wasp filter, lots of feeback on the Clouds.

VOID // Live @ Erica Synths Garage

Published on Aug 2, 2017 Erica Synths

"VOID performs live creating sound with Doepfer A100 basic system with added Erica Synths and Doepfer modules, Korg SQ-1 sequencer and Zoom ms70cdr effects pedal. Visuals are created beforehand using Pure Data and then modified with an analogue synthesizer and other low-resolution video devices. Live performance was played on VDMX.

VOID is a project of Reinis Naļivaiko (sound) and Artūrs Kalvāns (video), it’s an experimental audiovisual performance duo born in Liepāja back in 2012. Their sound comprises both dark and deeply atmospheric soundscapes and rhythmic noise compositions, aiming to create a diverse emotion gamma to the audience. In the creation process VOID uses field recordings & sound synthesis and their performances are always improvised. The visual aspect of the project is driven not by particular aesthetic principles but rather defined by methods used in the picture creation, such as manipulations with the signal through mixing it with other video sources, interfering with the video chain and digitizing of an analogue signal. The frame sequence and composition is controlled by the sound, and the visual rhythm either illustrates or breaks the sonic one. Works of VOID are influenced by the GAS project of Wolfgang Voigt, Pan Sonic & Delia Derbyshire."
