Deckard's Dream Deep Dive Demo! (single voice card)

"At KnobCon I had the fantastic pleasure of spending an hour with a one-voice Deckard's Dream, owned by Scott Rider aka Old Crow, the designer of the amazing CS-80 filter clones in the DD. What Roman Filippov has put together here is truly astounding.

The fact that this unit had 'only' one voice card allowed me to focus in on the details of the sound of it. Rather than going through the presets I spent the whole hour tweaking the voice's two parallel synth lines, which to me sounded absolutely wonderful and as close to the CS-80 as I've ever heard. Imagine what 8 voices of this beast would sound like!"

"Tiptop Audio 909 is complete! Even though I'm more of an 808 type, 909 is essential to ZV_K drum sound. The 909 closed hat is our main hat sound, the BD909 is always there and ready to fight whenever we need it. Toms, rim shot and cymbal - spice it up nicely. Clap 909 is essentially will be present in our rack forever. The snare completes the set and it is a welcome alternative to the 808 snare that I've been using since it's release.

But what about using 909 only drums? in this video this is exactly what I'm doing, running it clean, driving it with Z2040 input gain and with Vemona VcDrive, filteing it with Z2040 and Topobrillo's HiPass. And just jamming. No FX, Enjoy!

The unstoppable Wersimatic

Published on Sep 18, 2017 organfairy

"Normally 'unstoppable' is a positive word. But when it is used in the same sentence as "drum machine" it tends to be annoying.
My Wersimatic II was literally unstoppable so I had to do something about it. It turned out to be a defective logic gate. Quite and easy fix but still something I had to do.

The music is 'Knuden' which was a minor hit for the Danish band Shu-bi-dua back in 1978. Apart from the Wersimatic II I play it on my Wersi Prisma DX-5."

1940 Hammond Novachord Synthesizer Fully Rebuilt

via this auction

Beautiful, but pricey!

"This is the exact instrument that was recently featured at Sweetwater Sound's 2017 GearFest. To see a video of this synthesizer up close and hear what sounds it can produce, search YouTube for "Sweetwater Novachord".

Having spent more than five years, my son and I have recently completed a thorough rebuild of this Hammond Novachord Synthesizer. This legendary instrument is now fully functional as original. It looks as good and performs as well as it did the day it left the factory in 1940, and is considerably more reliable, with all of its capacitors and resistors replaced, and the original cotton-covered wiring replaced with Teflon insulated, silver-tinned copper wire. All 163 vacuum tubes test as new or nearly new. The pedals have been replated in polished nickel, and the original Bakelite and Plaskon keys are smooth and shiny.

The Novachord is considered to be the first commercially available polyphonic synthesizer, and was used extensively in science fiction and horror movie soundtracks of the 1940's and 1950's, as well as radio theatre and nightclubs around the country.

To our knowledge, there are only five Novachords that exist in this condition.

This rare instrument is currently located at Sweetwater Sound Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana."

How much?

$96,000.00 listed here.

Thyme effects processor by Bastl Instruments

"The Thyme is an effects processor that is best described as a sequenceable robot operated digital tape machine. With a lot of parameters at hand it enables the exploration of all the time based effects and the vast space in between their classical multi-effects categories (delay, phaser, reverb, chorus, pitch shifter, multi-tap delay, tape delay, tremolo, vibrato, compressor) and in stereo! Each of the 9 different parameters (Tape Speed, Delay Coarse & Fine, Feedback, Filter, extra heads Spacing and Levels, Dry Wet Mix and Volume) has a dedicated, very flexible modulation source – called the Robot – which can be phased out differently for left and right channel to create psychedelic new sound effects."

Whirling Windmills (never stop turning knobs)

Published on Sep 18, 2017 Aidan Burns-Fulkerson

Fun piece.

"In the absence of any kind of order, with very little preparation, sound energy is made from chemically stored electrical energy. The 0-Coast is the only outlier of the group, demanding its energy in the form of quickly alternating voltage.

The continually spinning turbines use concepts of special relativity to push endless electrons to the consumers. The synthesizers transfer electrical energy to (sometimes) audible frequencies and then send the signals to the air-movers so we can feel the waves.

Support alternative energy! Everything is star powered if we look back in time far enough. We now have the technology to cut out the middle men and stop burning things here in our atmosphere to make electricity. It's time to let our favorite star do the 'burning' millions of miles away, far outside our tiny layer of air."

"(c) 2017 vintage synthesizer demo by RetroSound

In june 2017 I drove over 1200 kilometers with my Oberheim OB-X , the OB-Xa and the Matrix-1000 to Paris in the UVI headquarter for sampling works for the new OB Legacy software. You can find a lot legendary Oberheim sounds in OB Legacy and a lot more.

UVI Ob Legacy
One of the most prolific figures in synthesizer history is the maverick engineer and designer Tom Oberheim. His efforts can be heard across hundreds of albums, decades of pioneering instrument designs, and experienced through conveniences we take for granted on a daily basis including preset memory and MIDI. His influence is as great as any and his designs have stood the test of time better than most, with models in production today that have changed little in over 40 years. The sound of his instruments is distinct and inherently musical, with a character that's often described as "lush" and "massive", and rightly so.

UVI Ob Legacy is the legendary and authentic Oberheim Sound for your studio.

ROLAND SYSTEM 100 MODEL 101 + MOOG MF-108M CLUSTERFLUX ~ Will They Pair? Ep.32

Published on Sep 18, 2017 once upon a synth

"Pairing the Roland System 100 Model 101 with the Moog Moogerfooger MF-108M Clusterflux. The Roland Model 101 is the keyboard synth part of the System 100 series which was a system of synths made by Roland in the 70s. The MF-108M is a chorus and flanger pedal from Moog's moogerfooger line. Chorus and flanger effects are based on delay lines with really short delays. The MF-108M offers a delay line with feedback and an LFO which is assigned to delay time. This combination of modules allows you to achieve both normal chorus and flanger effects as well as more experimental vibrato or ring modulation sounding effects. What makes the MF-108M different from most standard guitar pedals is that it provides CV and MIDI control over most parameters you see on the front panel. This allows you to use external signals or expression pedals to control the sound in interesting ways.

In this video I take advantage of these CV inputs and use the Model 101's ADSR output to control things like the mix, LFO amount and LFO rate. This results in a much more expressive synthesizer sound."
