Panoptigon plays Optigan Surf Rock Disc

Published on Mar 21, 2019 optigandotcom

"Here's another demo improvisation on the Panoptigon, this time featuring the Optigan Surf Rock disc. Be sure to listen in stereo, as this one features the typical Optigan hard-panning between the chords/drums on the left and the keyboard on the right. Apart from the Panoptigon's onboard hall reverb, no other effects or EQ were applied."

XAOC Devices Zadar, Batumi, Belgrad And More

Published on Mar 21, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"We put together a whole system of XAOC Devices modules including the new Zadar quad envelope generator, two Belgrad filters that can be used as interesting oscillators when self oscillating, and a Kamieniec phase shifter. We also used a Batumi, Drezno and Tirana II for sequencing and modulation. The SSF Entity Percussion Synthesizer provides some drums.

The new Zadar is a powerful digital quad envelope generator with many different envelope shapes that can be warped and modulated. The Zadar can even run at high enough frequencies to be used as a kind of odd wavetable oscillator.

Akai VX600 Synthesizer | Well, you found me

Published on Mar 21, 2019 Alex Ball

"This was an interesting one. I’d never heard of the Akai VX600 until a couple of weeks ago, so I came into it with absolutely no preconceptions.

When I saw it, I assumed it was a sampler. It’s actually a synth and surprisingly, given it only has 37-keys, it’s a six-voice poly synth. Perhaps most unexpected is the fact that it’s analogue.

So with the surprises out of the way, I fired it up and discovered you have to run a computer controlled calibration and let it warm up. It’s actually quite reminiscent of the Oberheim Xpander in terms of workflow and quirks.

You have two oscillators per voice with various combinable waveshapes, three envelopes, two filters, two LFOs per voice. It’s velocity sensitive and has aftertouch and midi. It’s also multitimbral and you can load different sounds for each voice (as you can on the Xpander).

There’s even a multi-pin connection to get all the voices separately and a whole setup dedicated for use with a wind controller. It’s quite an oddball!

I actually wrote three pieces of music on it before I found a direction that had some cohesion. I started with a warped magical thing, then did something dystopian and finally landed with the track heard in the video. I hope you like it and that it gives off the character of the synth.

Instruments:
Akai VX600 (1988)
Roland JX-3P + PG200 (1983)
Boss CE-2 and DM-2 pedals
Roland TR-77 (1972)
I sampled and made custom rhythms as it’s a preset machine
Fairlight CMI II drum samples
Abbey Road 80s Drummer
Fairlight Vocal Samples layered with my voice through a Voice Spectra Vocoder
String section – Spitfire Audio and LA Scoring Strings
End vocals recorded with an AKG C414s"

Here's an interview with the one and only Serge synthesizer designer, Serge Tcherepnin! Interviews with Serge are few and far between - in fact we're only aware of one print interview, from the early '80s. As far as we know, this is the only filmed interview with Serge in existence. Serge was a friend and colleague of Morton Subotnick's; Mort is the one who hired Serge onto the staff at CalArts, where he developed his synthesizer system for students to build and use. We met Serge in Paris to film with Mort for our upcoming Subotnick documentary, and after much convincing, Serge finally agreed to also give us a solo interview for Waveshaper TV!"

This is a treat. The influence of Buchla and Moog are covered by Serge Tcherepnin.

If enough people are interested in buying the DVINA we can start production. If you are interested please drop me an email at omhohom@gmail.com

Worth it for the oscillator bank alone, really fat sounding vco's here.

does the killer prodigy hard sync sound that the original prodigy did so much better than any other mono for whatever reason."

Befaco- Kickall and ST MIX Unboxing and Demo (no talking)

Published on Mar 21, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Hello Guys.
Today we have an unboxing and demo movie with ST Mix and Kickall on the newest kick drum module from Befaco.
The first 30 seconds are the initial unboxing rest just a demo without talking because we wanted to show the extensive sounds coming from this Kickall which basically will be located in every song. from soft to hard kick in style 909 and long decay 808 sounds plus much more like shape features additional VCA after the out plus the possibility of adding accent it's just part of what the name says - just kick it all.
Kickall module and the second ST MIX 4 channel stereo mixer with an Auxilliar input and is also compatible with the Hexmix system and can be internally connected to the hexmix module to add the STMIX output to the main mix in only 6HP.
Kickall is a 6HP compact synth voice that needs a big fat Kick sound: A stable VCO that tracks a violent wave shaper. The module has been designed with a kick synthesis patch in mind: VCO to VCA with an envelope to open the VCA and another one to change VCO pitch. As addition a CV controlled waveshapper has been added to the VCO and an extra VCA at the end of the signal path to control the volume of the sound to act as kind of an accent.all Befaco modules can be purchased assembled but also the whole offer includes DIY.more full info here on Befaco site : https://www.befaco.org/en/"

WHERE'S THE MINIMOOG!?

Some synth humor for you today. :) We need some "WHERE'S THE MINIMOOG!?" Synth Ts.

Here's what Marc had to say about it:

"You know, if German beer companies really cared about visiting Americans, they would label their innocent-looking lager bottles with warnings in red letters that are big enough for old people to read that say "Easy there, tiger... there is more alcohol than you're used to in this." But they don't. So, plainly, we have German beer companies to thank for this outcome."
