This one spotted and sent in via John L Rice: "Starts at 4:10. No sound until about 4:40. There is other political and traffic accident coverage before and after the Moog section. Moog content ends about 8:25. Keep in mind that sound is often poor quality and cuts in and out."

If anyone knows who that is in the video, feel free to comment.

Update: “That's Merrill Ellis. He's one of the first Moog customers (2 systems and later add-on's) as well as one of the first to take them out live. Pretty important guy from NTSU in Denton TX.”

John Chowning Coming to Knobcon 2019

Knobcon is set for September 6-8 in Chicagoland, USA.

"The organizers of Knobcon, the world’s only synthesizer convention, are pleased to announce FM synthesis pioneer Dr John Chowning as their guest of honor.

Following military service in a Navy band and university studies at Wittenberg University, Chowning, aided by Max Mathews of Bell Telephone Laboratories and David Poole of Stanford, set up a computer music program using the computer system of Stanford University's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in 1964. In 1967 he discovered and developed an algorithm for generating complex sounds using frequency modulation (FM). This breakthrough in the synthesis of timbres allowed a very simple yet elegant way of creating and controlling time-varying spectra. In 1977 Stanford University licensed the FM synthesis patent to Yamaha in Japan, leading to the most successful family of synthesizers in the history of electronic musical instruments.

In addition to his keynote address at the annual banquet, John will be hosting a workshop during the three-day event entitled “Learn FM Synthesis From The Man Who Wrote The Patent”

Knobcon is the world's only synthesizer convention, celebrating its eighth year. With performances, workshops, and vendors, Knobcon is a fully immersive experience. Attendees have access to an incredible playground of equipment and designers of some of today's most innovative synthesizer products.

Held in suburban Chicago, Illinois at the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, the entire event takes place under one roof. Enthusiasts travel from all over the world to attend this annual event. Easy access by all forms of transportation makes Knobcon the most convenient synthesizer event you'll ever attend!

If you are interested in the electronic arts, this is the place for you. Be a novice or a neophyte, Knobcon is an inclusive and enjoyable experience.

"Supercritical's Demon Core Oscillator has 16 analog DCO oscillators in just 12HP and with the expander it can even be used as a polyphonic oscillator bank. The Demon Core is great for giant super saw swarm oscillator sounds or more subtle unison.

To make a complete synthesizer with the Demon Core as the oscillators we added a System 80 Jove Filter and used a TC Electronic June 60 chorus pedal to complete the vintage Roland sound.

• 00:23 using OR to add two patterns together, creating a more complex composite pattern
• 02:31 using AND to mute a pattern based on a second gate, creating a more open composite pattern
• 04:19 using AND to trigger a new event or sound when beats in two patterns align

Behringer VC340 Vocoder analog synthesizer, impressions and sounds of this beatiful synth

Published on Aug 2, 2019 Expanding Sound

"After being on a preorder list for months, my Behringer VC340 finally came in the mail! I was very excited to get it out of the box and start fiddling away with the sounds. This is from my first hour or so with the VC340, I think it sounds fantastic. It has some weight to it. It feels very well made, which I think is a contrast to the Deepmind 12. While I liked the sounds of the Deepmind 12, I think this VC340 has a superior build quality. I would gig with it with no stress.
This is just a few minutes of sounds and tweaks of all sections of this beautiful new vocoder synthesizer! The nostalgia flows right out of this board, and its inspiring to write new music with. Hope you enjoy! what do you think of the sound?"

"Serviced and modified with:
• Separate outputs for channels one and two on a TRS (stereo) jack
• CV Mod – allows you to “play” the Syncussion via a CV in.

These are stunning and powerful drum synths: trigger via a drum pad, drum machine or output from your DAW. We love these and have two in the studio which we trigger from our 808. The low end on a Syncussion leaves the 808 seeming a tad weedy…

This one will ship once our techs have finished with it – we modify the output to TRS jack for separate outputs for each channel and also with CV ins for each channel for more musical interactivity…

It uses a 12v DC 300mA, centre negative unit power supply (not supplied).

There are currently no known operational faults with this unit – some crackle may be possible when the unit has not been used for some time – this should clear with use.

In superb cosmetic condition with only minor signs of age or wear across the unit. The wooden case is very clean with some dings and scuffs around the edges. See photos for more information on cosmetic condition."

The Spherical Wavetable Navigator (SWN) is a six-channel synthesizer that makes it easy to create slowly morphing drones, polyphonic melodies, evolving sequences, and rich textures. The SWN features six wavetable oscillators with independent pitch, level, and waveform controls. Six LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) can be used as modulation sources and/or envelopes, making it easy to add dynamic motion to your patch. Each channel is a full voice and can be “played” using the top row of buttons, the internal LFOs, or note-change detection on the 1V/oct jacks. The SWN ships with 12 three-dimensional (spherical) wavetables and an easy interface which allows you to record and edit custom wavetables from live audio. Open-source software for Mac, Windows, and Linux called SphereEdit can be freely downloaded and allows you computer to create, edit, and convert .wav files into Spherical wavetables to transfer into the SWN with an audio cable."

Arpticles (new Mozaic preset) - DIY for iOS Audio App

Published on Aug 2, 2019 Bram Bos

"In the upcoming Mozaic update I'll add the new Arpticles preset: a hybrid between an arpeggiator and a particle generator:

Arpticles will generate a (configurable) stream of particles based on the MIDI notes that are played/held.

Obviously you can use this preset as a starting point for making even more sophisticated scripts if you like!"

iTunes: Mozaic Plugin Engine - Bram Bos

DIY for iOS music app:

"Create your own MIDI plugins: MIDI filters, generative music tools, basic sequencers, MIDI control panels, chaos experiments... Let your imagination take you places.

Mozaic runs inside your favorite AU MIDI host, and gives you practical building blocks such as LFOs, pre-fab GUI layouts, musical scales, AUv3 support (with AU Parameters, transport events, tempo syncing, etc.), random generators and a super-simple yet powerful script language. Mozaic even offers quick access to your device’s Tilt Sensors for expressive interaction concepts!

The Mozaic Script language is designed from the ground up to be the easiest and most flexible MIDI language on iOS. A language by creatives, for creatives. You’ll only need to write a few lines of script to achieve impressive things - or to create that uber-specific thing that was missing from your MIDI setup.

Check out the Programming Manual on Ruismaker.com to learn about the script language and to get inspiration for awesome scripts of your own.

Mozaic comes with a sizable collection of tutorials and pre-made scripts which you can use out of the box, or which can be a starting point for your own plugin adventures.

Features in a nutshell:
- Easy to learn Mozaic Script language: easy to learn, easy to read
- Sample-accurate-everything: the tightest MIDI timing possible
- Built-in script editor with code-completion, syntax hints, etc.
- 5 immediately usable GUI layouts, with knobs, sliders, pads, etc.
- In-depth, helpful programming manual available on Ruismaker.com
- Easy access to LFOs, scales, MIDI I/O, AU parameters, timers
- AUv3; so you'll get multi-instance, state-saving, tempo sync and resource efficiency out of the box

Mozaic opens up the world of creative MIDI plugins to anyone willing to put in a few hours and a hot beverage or two.

Practical notes:
- Mozaic requires a plugin host with support for AUv3 MIDI plugins (AUM, ApeMatrix, Cubasis, Auria, Audiobus 3, etc.)
- The standalone mode of Mozaic lets you edit, test and export projects, but for MIDI connections you need to run it inside an AUv3 MIDI host
- MIDI is not sound; Mozaic on its own does not make noise... so bring your own synths, drum machines and other instruments!
- AUv3 MIDI requires iOS11 or higher"
