Video in the listing previously posted here.

"The DTronics DT-RDX changes the game for the Reface DX and makes FM synthesis programable/editable via a hardware controller. You can edit each operator individually or multiple operators at once, along with universal/common settings. As amazing as FM synthesis can sound, it's always been fairly intimidating to program/edit, but the DT-RDX (which has a solid metal frame) changes that and turns the Reface DX into a serious synthesizer. Using the DT-RDX to modulate the Reface DX while its looper is engaged produces some absolutely magical sounds!"

"Waldorf Microwave and Programmer (A two item package.) The synth that started it all! In 1989 this extraordinary reincarnation of the legendary PPG synthesizers set out to conquer the world. It’s brute, sonic energy simply dumbfounded the big players in the international synth biz and its red Waldorf 'nose' quickly became a trademark - soon to be found in music studios all over the world."

Red Waldorf "nose"? Never heard that one before.

Patch Notes: Ennio Morricone Tribute

TheEndorphines

"Ennio Morricone tribute patch based on the Good, Bad & Ugly soundtrack.
In this patch we are using Furthrrrrr generator with exponential FM to add inconsistent pitch drift in order to make the sound more realistic and human."

---

As many of you likely know, film composer Ennio Morricone passed away on July 6. He didn't work primarily with synths but he did incorporate them. He actually composed the soundtrack for The Thing using synths as a tribute in a sense to John Carpenter. From The Vinyl Factory:

"This is an unusual release in the soundtrack back-catalogue in it being a rare instance where John Carpenter chose not to score one of his own films, and where Morricone experiments with synth-tones in his composition, seemingly in acknowledgement of Carpenter’s style.
There’s a lot of muddied details that surround it, but as the story goes Carpenter was disappointed with what his musical hero (he got married to the music of Morricone) presented and embellished what appeared in the cinema with some of his own fills, leaving out a great deal of what Morricone had prepared. The LP however, includes tracks selected by Morricone and trumps his other works for horror in suspense and execution. Nominated for a razzie. Go figure."

I read that Ennio Morricone believed a synth shouldn't be used to recreate real world instruments, but rather as it's own instrument. via Wired:

"To create that original score for Tarantino, Morricone largely turns to tools unavailable in 1964, like synthesizers, which drive the tense, gloomy eight-minute overture. (Morricone’s compositions for The Thing, used in The Hateful Eight, were some of his first work with synths in the early 1980s.)

The experimenting composer isn’t above technological advances, but he’s quick to warn young composers of the dangers of seductive technology. “Electronic instruments have to be used to justify something that doesn’t exist, not to replace for instance an orchestra,” he says. “If you use the synth just to recreate the sound of an existing musical instrument, it is wrong. But if you use the synth to create sound that doesn’t exist, that’s a very wise way to use it.”

So technology can be a cautious step forward in music composition, as long as you don’t use it as a crutch. “If the composer—or the so-called composer—becomes a kind of slave of technology, if he uses technology in a toxic way, this is not progress,” he says. As Morricone sees it, technology’s role in music is “a moral stance, not only a technical stance.” A broader variety of possible sounds can benefit a soundtrack, of course, but the ease of synthetic sounds is not worth the loss of the authentic and everyday. Use technology to add a human whistle or the real tick of a watch, but don’t replace them with false facsimiles. As he describes it, in composing, “everything must start from your soul, from your heart, even when you use technology.” In his score for The Hateful Eight, Morricone is, in part, reusing music composed for a thriller in 1982 for a Western in 2015—but 70 years after his first Western, he insists he’s still experimenting, from the heart."

P.S. Thanks to gridsleep for requesting a post on Ennio Morricone and TheEndorphines for the video. I was hoping something to pay proper tribute would come in and it did.

Majella Audio Introduces the IMPLEXUS West-Cost Style Desktop Synth

Majella Audio

"The Majella Audio IMPLEXUS is a new desktop west-coast style synthesizer. "

via Majella Audio

"The IMPLEXUS is a hardware desktop synthesizer combining west – and east-coast syntheses techniques into a single formfactor. The IMPLEXUS uses analog waveshaping, folding and audio rate modulation to create a immense range of sounds and textures! It will be available at KICKSTARTER soon!

In short
The IMPLEXUS is a performance-oriented musical instrument which will inspire you to compose music and explore it’s unique soundscape. The IMPLEXUS has a carefully designed analogue signal path with many unique ways to create intriguing sounds. The many sound shaping methods and modulation possibilities help you to create west-coast style harmonically rich sounds as well as thick east-coast analog sounds.

The IMPLEXUS has a powerful “one-knob-per-function” interface with graphical feedback, utilizing LED rings to indicate modulators. The drone mode, tap tempo and looping envelopes let’s you explore the IMPLEXUS as a standalone sound generator. The MIDI and Eurorack compatibility and clock synchronisation options make sure it can be played in every setting. The IMPLEXUS is build to last. It has metal shaft potentiometers, an aluminium casing with scratch and solvent resistant graphics and an internal power supply (no adapter!). The IMPLEXUS is a characteristic, unique and complete musical instrument.

“West coast”
The characteristic sound of the IMPLEXUS comes from shaping and folding a sinewave, resulting in a complex waveform. The shaping and folding can be modulated at audio-rate in a single knob turn utilizing the second generator. Instead of subtracting you will be adding harmonics. After tweaking for a while you will be surprised to find out you didn’t touch the filter… yet.

Graphical feedback
The IMPLEXUS makes complex synthesis accessible with a performance-oriented “one-knob-per-function” interface. Different knob sizes will guide you to the most unique parts of this synthesizer and the LED’s will indicate modulating signals. You will not only hear what is happening, but you will actually see the effect of a knob tweak!"

Meso-Polyrhythms w/ MAKEN0ISE

MAKEN0ISE

"Overlapping clock divisions can create changes in a patch that are not just different rhythms for note events. These changes take place in the "meso" time scale, and when they work within and through each other they can be considered to be "meso-polyrhythms."

The more meso scale movements we add to the patch, the harder it gets to hear the effects of each one. Check out the video "Sculpting Time with a Modular Synth" for some thoughts on larger structures. [posted here]

"In this video I perform "Just Another Space Odyssey" with an all-Roland keyboard rig, controlled by the Fantom's sequencer. The first two minutes of the tune is built up in real-time, by recording MIDI notes and looping them back. At 2:20, I start triggering pre-recorded MIDI sequences from the Fantom and play along with them.

Synths used:
Roland Fantom 6, Jupiter X, Jupiter Xm, System 8, JD-XA, TR-8S, TR-808, Alpha Juno 1 & 2 and SE-02

The audio was recorded in one take, but the video was edited from multiple takes."

Roland SH-2 Vintage Analog Synthesizer w/ Original Silver Gig Bag Case SN 085962

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Roland SH-2, released in 1979, is a Japanese-made analog monophonic synthesizer that offers fat, warm vintage synth tones that evoke the sounds that defined a generation of electronic music. It has been used by artists such as Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Men Without Hats, and more. The SH-2 has a 2-waveform oscillator with controls for modulation, a VCF filter, an ADSR envelope, and more. The SH-2 is known in particular for its ultra-fat and punchy bass tones. The comparatively small form factor allows this synthesizer to travel well. If you're looking for the real deal when it comes to iconic 80s synth sounds, look no further!

This synth is in very good condition, showing some natural signs of age, including some scratches, yellowing, and other marks (please see photos). Furthermore, it has been tested by our professional technician and is working perfectly."

"I'm selling one full 4U "boat" / panel synthesizer. This is likely the last full panel synth that I will be building. (I will be continuing to build LW format modules going forward.) This panel runs on +/-12V via 4-pin XLR compatible with Random*Source power standards. This is electrically compatible with Serge, Loudest Warning, and other 4U/banana formats, though a bit of scaling may be necessary in some cases for CV ranges.

Here is a list of the functions/features of each section. Some are completely new (to my lineup) and may be available as PCBs at some point in the near future.

Clock & Divide - This is a full 1V/Oct VCO with range switch. It has a 0-5V unipolar sawtooth output (handy when connecting with Serge). It has a Sync input, and then the following Clock-pulse outputs. Clock, Div/2, Div/3, Div/4.

Bit Station - This is a slightly enhanced version of my usual Bit Station configurations. It can output pseudo-random and random (to 8-bit resolution) CVs. It can output pitched digital noise when clocked at audio rates. It will output analog white noise. The Data Input is an adjustable-threshold comparator (big knob controls it). Patch in waveforms, white noise, etc. to be processed by the internal digital shift register. The serial output is the logic-level data output of the shift register (can be used for random gates, etc.) There is also an XOR logic section which can also be used as a ring modulator.

2X SSI-Oscillators - These are standard, full-featured, precise VCOs. They use the SSI-2164 for exponential conversion, so no matched-pair-tempco-resistor circuit. They have hard sync, linear FM, Pulse Width Modulation, and saw, tri, pwm, and sine outputs.

Dual Angle - This is two Angle Generators. (Linear Slope Envelope/LFO modules) They work in Attack/Decay, or Attack/Release (switched) and either One Shot or Cycle modes. They also output an end of Cycle pulse for triggering other things, or retriggering for more complex shapes.

Reso-Gates - This is two resonant Low Pass Gates. Controls are Cutoff, CV-1 Level, and Resonance. There is also a second non-attenuated CV input.

Output - The final module is a stereo output module with pan control per input. It's a two-input mixer with panning, that then goes to a stereo output. High quality components were used here. Audio grade AC coupling caps, LME47920 op amps, etc.

Noisy Oscillator /Comb Filter -Modor , meloDicer-Vermona

Dziam Bass

"Hi All.
Today I took again a very nice Noisy Oscillator module and Comb Filter from Modor Music when I was putting the sequence on my new Melodicer from Vermona.
Noisy oscillator is a two voice digital vco with noise, you can add noise such as SONAR, WIND, ARCADE to its out, each of them you add using the mix knob and it creates your wave becomes a new wave with the addition of noise, which creates obviously new unique sounds.
Comb filter is usually used here as a flanger, I really like this effect and this module also has built-in LFO so basically the flanger moves by itself, as you can see Fb -feedback and speed for LFO and deepth for depth of modulation.
meloDicer is a stochastic sequencer so it's very cool and you can easily get melodic things because the notes are combined with two quantizers, but also just throw the dice to the rhythm or melodies and you have another random melodies still in a melodic way .
whole sequence from melodicer and drums from TwinCusiion also from Vermona triggered by Time wizard and Clock O'Pawn from Shakmat Modular .
for me again crazy fun with these modules .
thanks for watching and have a nice day."

Roland Cloud - New Patch Bank by Espen Kraft | Juno 106

Espen Kraft

"I got the opportunity to make a patch bank for the Juno 106 for Roland Cloud.
I've used the Juno 106 for many years and I have a set of patches I use all the time for this great classic.
I've now distilled those down to a bank that I think captures the essence of this synth. And the 80s!
The Roland Cloud edition of the Juno 106 has some extended features like the effects section, arpeggiator and more, and many of the patches takes advantage of this, but at it's core, it's still a classic Juno.
