Akai S612 w/FPA Mod. Great fun! + QD Emulator

Espen Kraft

"An awesome mod that makes it possible to control and record the sample Start/Splice - End - Decay - LFO Speed and Filter through Midi CC. Endless possibilities for glitchy fun!

What's the big deal you might ask, I can just move those sliders on the S612 itself? Yes, you can, but you can't record your movements that way. With this you can, and by doing so, you can record these movements into a DAW and later manipulate and adjust to taste to make snippets of cool stuff or whole soundscapes for further use."

Additional demos and details on the FPA mod from Hideaway Studio:

"A few demonstrations of Hideaway Studio's Front Panel Animator Module (FPA), Filter Defeat Module (FDM) and Virtual Floppy System (XD-280) for the AKAI S612 Sampler in action...

The FPA retrofit module allows most of the front panel controls including the infamous sample splice sliders and filter cutoff to be animated in realtime via 5 MIDI CC channels.

These modules have been proving popular with many upgraded units now in the wild. For those interested in further details or wishing to purchase their own module please contact me at: dan@hideawaystudio.net

Please Note: Although FPA and FDM module are a very neat fit once in place it does require strong PTH desoldering skills and patience to fit but it is not difficult for a tech to install each in less than 2 hours."

"Jeannie" 8 Voice DIY Teensy Synthesizer by Rolf Degen

Rolf Degen

The project is currently on https://forum.pjrc.com

"I am currently developing a new DIY synthesizer based on a Teensy 4.0 Boards. The synthesizer will look similar to the small Shruthi Synthesizer from Mutable Instruments. Compared to the Shruthi this synth will be polyphonic, have a color TFT display and other things like a 2Channel 16Bit DA-Converter, digital and analog filters. The housing and board format is similar to the Shruthi (see picture). That's why for the DIY Project I also created the Name 'Shruthi 2' selected."

Rolf Degen is the man behind the De-Generator and TubOhm.

Supercritical Synthesizers

"A small nod to the french beat.

Crisp mode this time and some bandpass filtering. Two saw waves and a clocked decay envelope is used. The bandpass mode has a good thump even without the boost mode. A bit of stereo widening for sauce.

The horn-like part on the Antumbra Knit is sequenced by Ornaments & Crime Hemispheres' trigger sequencer and then driven in a distortion box that started as a RAT but then evolved into something else.

Xaoc Devices Sarajewo Analog Delay & Katowice Stereo Variable Band Isolator

Xaoc Devices

See the dealers on the right for availability.

***** SARAJEWO, 1984 Syncable Analog Delay Line

Sarajewo is an analog delay module based on old school (but newly
manufactured) BBD (Bucket Brigade Delay) chips. It features three delay
taps, an external clock input with various tempo sync factors, and a
wide range of settings controllable via CV. It is based on high quality
components with maximum effort put towards the highest sound quality
possible, while still preserving the charm of the BBD technology. The
module offers a clean and warm analog sound with tons of character and a
comfortable user interface with a tap tempo button, signal level
indicators, sync and CV inputs, four signal outputs, and an adjustable
feedback filter.

- BBD-based analog delay unit
- Up to 1560ms of analog delay times
- Three delay taps with individual outputs
- External clock synchronization
- Manual tap tempo function
- Variable tempo divisions and multiplications
- Automatic bandwidth control
- Tilt filter in feedback loop
- External feedback loop input

- 12hp, skiff friendly
- Current draw: +180mA/-120mA

MSRP: 420 EUR
Xaoc Devices Katowice. Stereo Variable Band Isolator.

***** KATOWICE
, 1978 Stereo Variable Band Isolator

Katowice is a stereo variable–band isolator that allows the user to
manipulate a selected range of frequencies. It is the first module in a
series of upcoming Xaoc Devices products designed specifically for
processing stereo signals. Katowice splits the stereo input signal into
three bands: low, middle, and high. While the knobs and CV inputs define
the center frequency and bandwidth of the mid band, the low and high
bands are automatically adjusted so that the sum of all three is a
complete signal. All three bands are passed through high quality VCAs
and their stereo outputs are available separately for further
processing. A stereo mixdown signal is also available.

Katowice may be used as a crossover network, a parametric EQ, DJ-style
kill filter, or other band-selective applications, including multiband
compression and stereo enhancement.

- 3-band, 24dB/oct crossover module
- Voltage controlled band configuration
- Three stereo VCA blocks
- Voltage controlled attenuation in each band

- 10hp, skiff friendly
- Current draw: +100mA / –100mA
- Reverse power protection

MSRP: 240 EUR

Instruō - Saïch Oscillator

Instruō

See the dealers on the right for availibility.

"The Instruō saïch is a quad oscillator with super-saw functionality and built in “smart” VCA mixing. At its core are four fully analogue sawtooth waveforms that can be intervallically offset, individually and globally detuned, transformed and transposed, and mixed together in creative and interesting ways.

A perfect companion for the harmonàig quantiser, it can easily create harmonically structured chord voicings perfect for lush subtractive patching. Paraphonic patching in analogue with eurorack has now become considerably more convenient!

No quad quantiser in your system? Not to worry!
saïch includes beautifully simple diatonic modes allowing for the creation of
Ionian and Aeolian chord scales with a single 1V/octave CV source."

Beast-Tek

Playlist:
Beast-Tek Transmuter Volca Drum Test
Beast-Tek Transmuter VS MC-101
Beast-Tek Transmuter VS ER-1

"Transmuter is a bi-directional 8 channel MIDI to gate/trigger AND gate/trigger to MIDI packed into a single 10hp module. Transmuter was designed to get your external gear working together with your Eurorack modular so that you can expand your creativity and sonic palette without having to move to a bigger rack. Unlike most other MIDI to CV converters, Transmuter does not have a 1V/octave output for pitch which may seem weird at first .. BUT this is because Transmuter was designed to get external gear jamming alongside your modular without a DAW, instead of providing external control of your modular by a DAW, sequencer or keyboard.

Patch Notes: Hélène Vogelsinger

video by FACTmagazine
"As part of the practice behind Hélène Vogelsinger‘s modular synth compositions, the French singer and sound designer explores abandoned places and connects with their energies to create immersive and suspended moments. “I love the fact that they have layers of stories and histories, with different occupants, often crossing times, and always full of beautiful and melancholic poetry,” she says.

Prior to this episode of Patch Notes, Vogelsinger went on a 800km trip to visit an abandoned cloister, where she took pictures, videos and recorded soundscapes. She then came back to her studio and started to create the musical foundations based on what she experienced during that day. “I always compose my main sequences and record the vocals and instruments upstream,” she says. “It is the first phase of creation.”

A few weeks later, Vogelsinger returned to record the finished piece, but the building wasn’t accessible. But on her way back home, in the south of France, she came across an abandoned castle, “an improbable apparition”, in the middle of an industrial zone. “With Chalisk, who films all my sessions, we were amazed and shocked at the same time,” she says. “We were amazed by this place’s aura and energy and shocked by the way it has been ransacked.”

Although the piece wasn’t recorded for the space, the castle’s own history (the family who lived there helped refugees who fled war) and aura made it suitable for the session.

“The installation and the recording session are always a process within the process, which takes a few hours. Technically it requires a good organisation: three modular cases and hundred of cables, a generator, a camera, lights and again so many cables,” she says. “It is something really intense, especially in those types of abandoned places, where you have to avoid a lot of obstacles.”

Vogelsinger’s latest album, Contemplation, is available now on Modularfield: https://helenevogelsinger.bandcamp.co...

"A continuation of the series created to bring you closer to the experience of polyphonic electronic music experimentation, late at night with the lights down low. The world is asleep and all that exists is the mind & body connecting to the music through the interface of the synthesizer, channelling information from the beyond. Let your eyes relax and blur to taste, breathe slowly, and just listen if you are so inclined. I hope you enjoy."

HW Sequencer Kawai Q80ex Midi Clock sync file

ElektroNoiser

"At the request of Mark Pigott I have created this video in which the Q80ex plays a blank track to send Midi Clock to the blofeld.
Midi Ox recognizes the departure, continue and return to the beginning.
I also attach the snapshot that MidiOx has created.
Hope this can help anyone who wants to sync their blofeld via midi clock.
As additional information, I usually start the Q80 at least one bar before starting the Blofeld, otherwise, Blofeld may stumble because in "Auto" mode, by not receiving a midi clock, Blofeld will continue your own internal clock.
