"meticulously refurbished - fully disassembled, cleaned inside and out, fully serviced and future-proofed so it will hopefully last another 40 or so years. This unit came to us in great shape, so this work took less time than usual for this sort of special treatment - only 23 hours of valuable, skilled labor. Work done includes: keyboard fully rebuilt with new bushings, bus bar and contacts cleaned, keys removed and cleaned. replaced some caps and regulators. jacks cleaned, replaced washers and nuts, cleaned up panel, opened, cleaned and lubed pots, cleaned and lubed switches, power supply rebuilt, unit recalibrated. sn122x. Note: the left set of multiple jacks was previously wired to output the keyboard voltage and is labelled to reflect this. This unit was also tested over a long period of time to ensure reliability. As a result, it's better than others on the market, is working perfectly and is ready to play, no surprises and no excuses. You won't find a better EML-101 anywhere."

"We meticulously refurbished this unit so it would play absolutely perfectly again (like new). This process took 14 hours of valuable skilled labor and the end result is an instrument that is better than any other you may find, and is pricing accordingly.

In addition to fixing any problems, we rebuilt the power supply, replacing capacitors, bridge diode, resoldering connections, adjusted voltage. Removed keyboard, removed and cleaned bus bars. Cleaned key contacts. Cleaned up front panel, knobs, resoldered bender board, cleaned and lubed all pots and switches, replaced caps on ADSR, VCF, VCO, ring mod and LFO boards. Resoldered connections. Replaced power cable. Cleaned tolex. Fixed a problem that was present when it was new - back panel VCO control didn't work because it wasn't wired up (someone must have been sleeping at the Roland factory), replaced terminal for molex connector #12. Replaced power line terminals. Recalibrated. Tested systematically and completely multiple times and working perfectly.

"Completely overhauled in an effort to future-proof - cleaned inside and out and meticulously serviced over many hours and tested over and over again and working like new again. This 106 is better than the rest and should be more reliable than others you'll find on the market and is therefore priced accordingly."

"Just do I.T."

A new release via supporting member, VONDERFUeL, who had the following to say, starting with a quote from Apollo astronaut Edgar Mitchell (synth info starts in the fourth paragraph):

"'You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. I suddenly experienced the universe as intelligent, loving, harmonious, what has been described as an ecstasy of unity.'
Apollo astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who saw Earth from the moon in 1971

If our Universe is a simulation being run on a giant quantum computer, by someone from an intelligent civilisation in a different dimension, it wouldn't just be a computer game to them. It would be more like a religion. They would worship the life and diversity that exists on Planet Earth, and they would have great faith in humanity to create peace and unity on Earth. So should we. Across all borders. They would celebrate Planet Earth every Sunday, by praying for us and by playing modular synths and traditional drums, singing and dancing around the fire, sharing the love and compassion they feel for each other and for the life that they have created within the simulation on Planet Earth.

So, as the theory goes, this raises the possibility that we are actually living inside what could be described as a genuine love machine!"

Update: player set to start with track 9. Rainbow per VONDERFUeL:

"I spent six months in 2019 working on my album 'Sapiens', and after completing this, things started flowing well. I composed the album 'Religion' in four weeks around xmas2019/new years, so the spirit of the holidays defiantly made its way into the music. Drums and mixing has been completed recently. The synths used for 'Religion' includes a Matrix 1000, Marion ProSynth, Korg Triton Classic and a Korg Monologue. Drums from Halion Sonic SE/Groove Agent SE in Cubase.

The Oberheim Matrix 1000 and the Marion ProSynth are cousins, both designed by Tom Oberheim, and they are both excellent synths. For me, the Matrix 1000 is, generally, best for pads while the Marion ProSynth is better at short sequenced sounds. The Marion ProSynth is pretty much the same as the Marion MSR2, which I owned before, just without expandability. The name Marion comes from Tom Oberheims daughter. The Matrix has 800 presets + 200 user patches where you can save your own sounds, while the Marion should be programmed (also 200 user patches) to get the best out of it, although it comes with a few good presets swell. The Access Matrix Programmer is great for tweaking presets on the Matrix, which can then be saved into the one of the 200 user patches. I feel a lot of respect for Tom Oberheim, and 'The Spiritual Machines' that he has created for us

coyotesynth

"The Vermona'14 is a great keyboard controller for the ARP2600FS.
In this video, the Sequencer is used to control both synths, with a random gate. ModWheel control frequency cutoff on both synths.

Vermona'14 is on the left channel, ARP2600FS is on the right channel, providing a stereo sequence.

After 3'17" minutes of tweaking on both synths (cutoff/resonance), some Arturia FX from the FX collection are used."

Tipped 200k Posts Today

Apparenlty I tipped over 200,000 posts on MATRIXSYNTH today. I wasn't planning on posting anything but I figured I should at least account for the milestone in a separate post. I also wanted to let the natural order of posts flow for the day vs. hijacking the 200,000th post.

The site has been running non-stop since July 20 of 2005, so roughly 15 years and five months. I've only missed a single day posting at the very beginning back on August 6 of 2005, when I had no idea there would be something to post every single day, and before the days of decent hotel wifi. Note 2005 was two years before the first iPhone was launched.

The crazy thing some may not know? Every single post on the site has gone up by hand. There is zero automation. That's over 200k manually created posts to date. :)

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around all this time, supporters of the site, and of course the banner sponsors you see to the right and Sequential up above.

Happy Holidays everyone!

P.S. The 200,000th post? "WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD". It came in at just the right time and up it went.

GLASYS: Can I Write a JRPG Theme... In An Hour? (From Scratch #1)

GLASYS

"Watch me succeed (or fail miserably?) at composing & recording a JRPG-style tune in one hour. (I didn't actually plan on writing a video game style theme, I just hit record and that's what came out).
So, I've been wanting to do this for a long time - get over my own perfectionism and create something as quickly as possible, without the ability to redo stuff or get into the details. Obviously it's far from perfect, but I actually had a lot of fun doing this - it's very liberating!
I would love to make this a weekly challenge. Let me know if you enjoyed watching this, and if you have any ideas for future episodes (could be anything from a certain style, a mood, or even a cover that I create in one hour)."

Happy Nerding - FX AID XL - Stereo Effects Demo

Sound Isles

"I explore the sounds of the FX AID XL by Happy Nerding in a non-talking demo. The FX AID XL runs 32 effects algorithms arranged in 4 banks of 8 effects. You choose and customize the effects / banks on the FX AID via their editor page / app (https://fxaid.app/). There are over 100 high quality algorithms including amazing emulations of classic reverbs, delays, pitch shifters and original effects combinations all with a Stereo signal path.

The XL grants separate CV modulation inputs for all three effect parameters plus a Sample Rate Reducer (SRR) input. FX AID XL has four user storable presets that store the selected program and all three controls. CV assign, presets and the last used effect are remembered and always available after power offs.

Notes:
Using the Arturia Keystep Pro to sequence + play a range of sounds from the 4MS - Stereo Triggered Sampler and Rings in an alternate FM Voice mode. Pamela's NEW Workout is applying some simple modulation to CV parameters. Life is Unfair Devices - Potential Joystick Controller makes an appearance.

Thanks to Happy Nerding.

"An excerpt from an audio-visual cross-dimensional consciousness projection by ivn riptek.

We have information that leads us to believe that we will soon be receiving a data package from Ivn Riptek that we understand will contain a number of audio recordings.

Unfortunately, due to our lack of technological understanding with regards to cross-dimensional data transfer, and due to the the complexities of quantum manipulation in general, communication with Mr. Riptek has been challenging.

If our calculations are correct, our prediction is that the files will be available for release around mid 2021.

Dr. Wiener Presents: Serge Modular 101: Using the Smooth and Stepped Generator (SSG)

Dr. Wiener

"This a full explanation of the Serge Modular SSG in the Eurorack Format from Random*Source. Here is a text description below from their site:

SERGE SMOOTH & STEPPED GENERATOR (SSG)
The Serge Smooth & Stepped Generator (SSG) is a complex multi-functional module which can be patch programmed to provide various slew and sample functions both for audio and CV signals. It is one of the essential Serge modules.

The Smooth section will place a positive and negative slew on input voltage transitions for lag effects, voltage controlled portamento and for low frequency filter applications.” In Cycle-mode (cycle jack patched to the input), the Smooth side “will oscillate yielding a voltage controlled triangle wave LFO. A high level into the HOLD input will enable the Smooth Function to be used as a track-and-hold circuit with voltage controlled slew rate.

The Stepped function can be used as a sample-and-hold with voltage controlled slew rate limiting. In Cycle mode, a pulse applied to the Sample input will generate complex staircase waveforms for control voltage applications and for use as audio signals.

The Coupler is an internal comparator which compares the output levels of the Smooth and the Stepped Generators. This output is useful for generating complex control voltages or random voltages.

The Random*Source version of the Smooth & Stepped Generator for Euro is a licensed and authorized adaption of the original Serge design that provides an increased audio range of the Smooth Generator and a bipolar (“hot”) Coupler output in addition to the regular (unipolar) Coupler output."

Sequence #8 // 0-Coast, Digitakt, Spitfire Audio BBC Symphony Orchestra

Stefano Mattia - Eon Edge

"I finally got around to setting up my 0-Coast with my newly acquired Digitakt, all synched up with Logic Pro via Overbridge. It took me a while to figure it out but everything is working amazingly now. I don't even need an external audio interface anymore, I can hook up my 0-Coast into the Digitakt input ports, and have the Digitakt act as an audio interface itself. All channels, including the external ones, are acquired and recorded independently in Logic via Overbridge.
As I first test, I wanted to make some sort of ambient techno, with some nice punchy drums and a little bit of orchestra in the background. As usual, I got carried away a bit. But I thought it might be useful to share my first attempt, hopefully someone more experienced than me will comment with some precious constructive feedback.
In the long run, I want to get better at programming drums and arranging tracks and I hope that the Digitakt will help me in that compartment.
Let me know what you think of it :)"

Oberheim Buchla OBMX SN 1307

via this auction

"The Oberheim OBMx is a modern synthesizer module with an audio path that is entirely analog. It has an intuitive and powerful interface which makes it easy for anyone to program their own unique sounds. The OBMx delivers the classic Oberheim and Minimoog sounds while being completely programmable and midi compatible.

An historical point is that the OB-Mx is, at present, the last synthesizer designed by Don Buchla. The 'Oberheim filter' provides 12 dB/oct low, band or hi pass filtering, with resonance. And the 'Minimoog filter' uses a 24 dB/oct low-pass filter.

The OB-Mx was one of the few real analog synths, available with completely modern features. And because it comes from Oberheim, you can expect great sounds, design, and features. The OB-Mx is highly user upgradeable. Out of the box the OB-Mx comes with one two voice expansion card which contains the two oscillators, 4 multistage envelopes, 3 LFO's, and filters. Up to 6 of these cards can be easily installed sufficiently adding to the phatness of this synth and its capabilities. It has been used by Nine Inch Nails, Sneaker Pimps, Apollo 440, DJ Spinna, and U2.

Along the bottom of the front panel is a set of buttons marked VOICE STATUS - the LEDs in each of these buttons light up to indicate which voice is being played at a given time. As well as being quite useful, these offer the added benefit that anyone looking at the panel can at least see some action!

Each voice consists of:

- Two Voltage Controlled Oscillators - Two Voltage controlled filters
- A mixer module
- A Voltage Controlled Amplifier
- Four Envelope Generators Three Low Frequency Oscillators."

Moog Model 15 Legacy Modular System (USA/2015) SN 17

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Only 150 were hand-made by Moog (North Carolina/USA) in 2015. This one is serial number 17; obviously one of the first shipped to the UK (dual-voltage 120/220V, so no convertors required). One owner from new, apart from Klassic Keys GB. Rig comes with everything shown in photos, including special output cable. Original owner's manual (which is very informative ) & some patch charts + many patch leads + Swan flight-rack, even the original box! Note certificate of authentication...

If you are reading this, you will probably know exactly what this modular system is capable of. Basically, it is a portable version of the monster Moog system 900, which was extensively employed to produce "Switched on Bach" circa 1968. ANY sound/tone can be created....from scratch....and there is NO better tonality in the whole universe than a Moog system.......There are ten or so different modules (eg 995, 923 etc) all grouped in one "frame"; by plugging and connecting with the patch leads, the sounds are created, stemming from twin oscillators (921B), controlled by the master oscillator (921A), and so on.....

Introduction (by Bob Moog):-" ...is a pro modular system, made with the same high quality, precisely-engineered components as the largest Moog studio synths. Its compactness and convenience make it ideal for live performance on location, yet it is expandable into a studio system of any size. It combines functional simplicity and logical layout with the versatility necessary for producing a full range of sounds & effects."

Musically, you will need a keyboard. Option (1) use a Moog model 951/952...it simply plugs into the rear of the unit, no grief....(2) use software + any contemporary CV/MIDI mini-synth/mother keyboard (there are many available).....(3) use an external sequencer (only), if you are into the massive "techno-house-music-modular-synthesis" stuff......
Condition:- virtually "as new". No more, no less.

"Happy holidays everyone!

2020 has sucked on many levels… but hopefully this might lighten some lockdowns:
Instruo is now on VCV Rack for anyone to use for free!
It’s been a busy year but I’ve had the great fortune of welcoming a few new team members to the Instruo crew.
This in particular has been a project that really grew exponentially since June!
With the pandemic still on going, hopefully this will ease some boredom and help inspire some creativity.

Thank you everyone that has supported Instruo to date.
I have many exciting things in development and we thought this would be a nice way to give something back in thanks.

Happy Christmas and New Year when it comes.
And of course happy patching!
Cheers

The Human League - Don't You Want Me (Instrumental Cover)

KOSmusic

"This is my instrumental cover of a magnificent 1980s classic by the English band The Human League: Don't You Want Me of 1981.

It was a bit of a complex track to recreate for the amount of synth sounds, but I have to say I had a lot of fun creating these typical early 80s synth sounds (many of them with the classic square wave).

To recreate this track and to make the video, I was inspired by the official video version: [below]

I used the CS1x sounds for many brasses of this song and tried to get as close as possible to the original with all the other sounds. There are some differences with the original track (you can hear them by listening to the separate left/right channels), especially with the more complex sounds to recreate (for example the rhythm synth on the right channel starting at 0:23). Moreover, I made the fade out of the track a little more gradual (lengthening it a few seconds longer than the original).

I hope you enjoy my tribute to this beautiful song :)"

Ambient IDM - Sonicware Liven 8Bit Warps Demo

ChrisLody

"This jam explores the filters quite a lot on the 8Bit Warps. It has resonant Low pass, High pass and Bandpass types and this jam uses all three of them. There's Low pass on the drum/percussion sounds and bass sounds, High pass on the melody part and Band pass on the pad like sound. The filters are best of thought of as effects rather than normal subtractive synthesis filters, they are monophonic per part and can't be controlled by an envelope, though there is a control to route the onboard LFO to it, though it has a fixed triangle shape and no tempo sync.

But they can be meticulously programmed per step using the Parameter Lock feature so every step of a pattern can have it's own cutoff and resonance settings. It's also possible to record the knob movements in real-time which is how I created the shifting Band pass effect on the pad, so there's plenty of scope for sound design here. Team that up with making evolving tones using the wave-table or FM synthesis methods and it sounds like nothing else. Good stuff

This demo was made using one pass of the Liven 8Bit warps without any other external equipment used, except to capture the performance."

Sinevibes Blend v2 - Multi-Voice Chorus

Sinevibes

"Blend is a multi-voice chorus effect developed by Sinevibes. Available as AU+VST plugin for Mac. Product page: https://www.sinevibes.com/blend/"

"Blend is a multi-voice chorus comprised of up to 16 separate layers. Each of them actually is a chorus effect on its own – complete with a dedicated modulation generator and a feedback loop. Even with all 16 layers activated, the resulting mix is dense yet always silky smooth and musical – thanks to clever proportional modulation phase offsets. Blend also has three different interpolation algorithms, each giving it a slightly different sound character. And as much as it excels at creating delicious chorus and ensemble effects of many, many styles, Blend’s unusual flexibility allows it to easily go into much further territory, so effects like vibrato, tape wow, flanger, smear, dissonance, even reverb – are just a few tweaks away.

Korg Trident Mk1

MrFirechild

"Here is a track using sounds only from the Korg Trident Mk1 from 1980. A very cool machine combining a fully programmable and real eight voice polyphonic synthesizer with a divide down section with brass and strings. Built in Flanger completes this classic synthesizer. From being somewhat forgotten in the early 2000 it is now pretty sought after with its great sounding SSM filters.
The track is called Open Your Eyes.
Composed and produced by www.firechild.se"
