Simple rhythmic variations w/ Hologram Microcosm, Dirtywave M8, MT-32 pi, TX-6 & RK-006

video upload by Arman Bohn

"Generative patterns from the M8 are producing the rhythms and bass. M8 is also sending random chord information to the MT32 pi. The MT32 is playing back an E piano soundfont that is sent through the microcosm.

The microcosm is kind of like my therapy right now. I can feed it generative random stuff and play with the knobs and occasionally make some really magical sounds."

The Great Hapax Experiment Vol. 1 - Squarp Hapax sequencing loads of stuff and Cocoquantus improvs

video upload by -CALC-

"Sat with this one quite a bit for quite a bit.... kept it unlisted for over a year but after some revisits thought maybe its time to put it out there. Still stand by what I initially thought, its a "Curate's egg... Good in parts". Squarp and Coco were still newish at the time of this jam so still finding the feels.

This is what I thought of it back then:

I got a new brain!

Here's a full 45 minute noodle with the incredible Squarp Hapax front and centre. To say this is the most powerful hardware sequencer I have ever got my hands on is a total understatement.

WARNING This pretty experimental jam is not for the faint hearted in certain sections. Focussing on Hapax and the CocoQuantus it gets noisy and out there but that's what I love these days.

It was improvised and live-sequenced over a couple of initially formed sequences.
There are good bits but also some really bad sections in the middle too. I considered cutting these out but that would be a hard edit and they eventually do settle down.
I'd say the worst bits are:
20:30 - 21:26 (shitty idea to try and record a kick bass line without tuning the kick!)
28:39 - 29:42 (combo of not realising that the 1010 Blue box was turned down and having a few moments of forgetting how the CocoQuantus worked... oh and a pesky Buchla sequence I forgot to stop!)

Hapax is firing off and controlling a ton of stuff in the room:
Circuit Rhythm
Ciat Lonbarde CocoQuantus (clocking the loopers)
Nord Drum 3p
Rossum Electro Assimil8or (through CV.OCD)
Meng Qi Wingie 2
Novation Summit - also acting as a controller keyboard for everything in the set-up
Buchla 208C
Norns (running Plonky Script for multisamples)
Just Friends in polysynth mode
Vongon Polyphrase
Vongon Ultrasheer
Mutable Instruments Beads
and some dodgy singing
All connected via Hapax's MIDI Outs and a Conductive Labs MRCC"

Do you need a complex poly synth - or just polyphony and FX?

video upload by Richard DeHove

"There are few synths more simple than the Solina, but can it be extended from its one trick? Can it do what real poly synths do, or at least cover some of the territory by using external effects? And if it successfully delivers a range of bid pad sounds then can interesting little mono synths do the weird stuff and your need for a flagship poly finally end?
After a short intro burble I demo a range of sounds using the Strymon Mobius, Shift Line Astronaut and Erica Synths Acidbox III. They certainly move the Solina out of its usual zone but can't really overcome the lack of envelope control. OTOH the pad thing is well covered. It it enough to end Big Poly GAS?

Stereo synth for 40 bucks: a wired heart for scary drones

video upload by Pete Midi

"Be warned: the Wired Heart is not for everyone. It’s not a musical instrument that lets you play Xmas songs. It’s rather a special kind of drone synth that you may use for the score of your next horror movie or just as a rich stereo source for your next sampling session. But if you think this could also be a visually appealing gift, be careful and watch this video first! Otherwise, one day you might say or sing “Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away …”

'Aristophanes' Dub Ambient (Syntakt, Digitakt, OB-6, Prophet 10 , Pulse 2)

video upload by Martin Stürtzer

"Setup of this track: The Digitakt plays the drums and controls the OB-6 (Track 9), Prophet 10 (Track 10) and the Waldorf Pulse 2 (Track 11) over midi. The Syntakt plays the first sequence (Track 1), the pad (Track 2) and the lead sound (Track 5). The Midi Fighter Twister controls the levels in Bitwig and the effects, which are Valhalla DSP Delay, Supermassive and Vintage Verb.

2934 Aristophanes /ˌærɪˈstɒfəniːz/, provisional designation 4006 P-L, is a carbonaceous Veritasian asteroid from the outer regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 22 kilometers in diameter. Techno From Scratch, Dial Up That Rumble Bass!

video upload by EZBOT

"We're about to embark on an exciting journey as we craft techno music entirely from scratch. Our creative arsenal includes the Octatrack MK2, Digitakt, Digitone, and Syntakt, all working in harmony to produce some mind-bending sounds.

What adds an extra layer of magic to our performance today is my newest Octatrack template "Techno Performance Mixer 1.0.1," the latest addition to my Patreon offerings and soon to be available on Ko-Fi. This performance template for the Octatrack not only provides master clocking, 8 bar auto-modulated effects, 8 bar loops, and many other features that will undoubtedly take our music to the next level.

Our journey begins with a rumbling foundation, achieved through a unique resampling technique. We'll also be diving into an intriguing side-chain ducking trick, which I shared with you all last week. It's going to be an immersive and educational experience, so let's get started and delve into the world of techno creation.

Serge GTS eurorack - 1V/Octave demo

video upload by Serge Modular | Random*Source

"The Serge GTS is a complete redesign of the famous Serge Dual Universal Slope Generator (DUSG) by Serge himself - with a new core, optimized for speed and tracking. Like some of the clones it can be used for CV, but provides exceptional audio performance: transient rise times as fast as 12µs and a maximum cycle speed of 28kHz.

In this demo 2 GTS are used parallel as Sawtooth oscillators (= 4 oscillators), controlled via 1V/Oct and Midi / keyboard. In such Sawtooth mode, the GTS tracks over about 6 octaves, up to more than 2kHz."

Gater - Serge Gated Comparator Sketch

video upload by Memetune Studio

"Using the Loudest Warning versions of the Ken Stone Gated Comparator to play the Serge system. The GC takes 2 inputs (any time-varying voltage source and a clock source) and sends out a variety of CVs and Gates based on the incoming clock, using 8 shift registers that sequentially pass the voltages along. Its hard to explain what's happening, because there are a few extra details that complicate it. One is that each of the 8 steps can have an offset voltage added with a knob setting. Also there is a loop function which can be different to the inputs. Then there are different outputs - a mix of all the voltages on each step, or random voltages per step. A range knob sets the general voltage range its going to output, and there is a sensitivity knob to control how much of the variable cv input is setting off the stages. Its pretty hit and miss, and is one of those modules that is best just experimented with, but it can give amazing results that can't be done on anything else (apart from other modules based on this idea, such as the Rungler, Klee sequencer, Turing Machine, etc). Its great for semi-random sequences of notes and other cvs, as well as gates and timing pulses

In this patch I'm using one GC (on the right of the panel) to do the pitches and a second one (far left) to send out cvs to control the timbre of the oscillator. This second GC is a slimmed down version with less controls and no individual gate outs, but its the same thing in principle

The strange wonky rhythms are being made with a combination of the window comparators and the EG which has an equally baffling array of input and output options

So in other words, this is a an extremely fun panel to experiment with when making aleatoric music 😁"

"Legendary ARP Odyssey MKI 2800 in black (YES, they made this model in black during later years!). This one is in very good condition. Synthesizer technicians have commented that they have never encountered one in this great of condition. This works exactly as it should.

This has been recently serviced by Bell Tone Synth Works just outside of Philadelphia. It has been serviced and calibrated.

In recent years, this synth has had its capacitors replaced and all of the faders replaced. There are 1/4" CV, GATE, and TRIGGER inputs added to the rear."

Arduino sample synthesizer is now full of samples - loading SF2 and WAV samples on ESP32 & RP2040

video upload by Marcel Licence

"I've been working on improving the sampler project, especially how it loads sound samples.
Now, you can load samples from SF2 soundfonts, wav files, and a chosen directory.
This project works on ESP32 and RP2040, and more support is in the works.
I've also included the effects section from the last project.

Soundfonts do contain one big chunk of 16bit/24bit sample data, a list of data sets.
They have details about the range, tuning, and loop points of the samples.
There's also a list of instruments that can use different samples for various key and speed levels.
Lastly, there's a list of presets with additional settings.
I tried to make it easy to load specific parts of the soundfont, leaving out some options on purpose for flexibility.

You can also load wav files. These files might have extra information about the samples, like loop regions and tuning.
They are stored in an additional tag: "smpl".

In the future, I'm thinking of supporting different data formats (like 8-bit and stereo) and adding more file formats for loading samples.
I'm considering vgm and spc (Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo samples) and aif files containing sample info.
