NAMM 2025: MIDI Association's Network MIDI 2.0 Unveiled
video upload by sonicstate
"At NAMM 2025, the MIDI Association revealed significant updates regarding the implementation of *Network MIDI 2.0*. We caught up with Pete, who shared insights into how the new protocol has advanced from its predecessor, featuring no cable length restrictions and compatibility over both Wi-Fi and long wired connections.
A standout demonstration involved the Windows implementation of Network MIDI 2.0. Pete illustrated its application using Music Kraken on an iPad, seamlessly controlling a Windows PC running Multitrack Studio via Network MIDI 2.0. The setup, using a BomeBox and KissBox to manage older MIDI 1.0 devices, highlighted the simplicity and efficiency the new standard offers, making it easier for developers to integrate without extensive new requirements.
Noteworthy too, was a discussion about MIDI 2.0's Piano Profile, aiming for consistent performance standards. Pete reassured us that the implementation efforts are gaining pace, promising further integration within Windows soon."

The 'CLS 22' model was built from 1982 to 1988 and uses an exclusively analog signal. According to the manufacturer's official product brochure, Dynacord began developing the effect in the 1970s with the aim of imitating the sound of the mechanical rotor cabinet fully electronically and without wear. To do this, the manufacturer splits the input signal into a high-frequency and a low-frequency signal using an electronic crossover. Since the start-up and stop times of the two channels varied in a targeted manner, the rotor sound could be copied electronically. You could choose between fast speed (“Fast”), slow rotor sound (“Slow”) and untouched signal (“Stop”). In addition, the input level of the preamplifier, rotor balance, and output level of the signals could be adjusted between monophonic or stereophonic. On the back there is a power plug, jack sockets, XLR outputs, fine adjustments for the rotor speed and a footswitch input.
In 1989, a revised version of the device was released under the name “CLS 222”. This effect device supposedly now also uses a digital signal for signal processing, in contrast to the pioneer. However, according to the circuit diagrams in the service manuals, both the CLS 22 and the CLS 222 use purely analog circuits, including BBD chips (so-called “bucket chain memory”) for the signal delay. According to the manufacturer, the CLS 222 model could still be used for electric guitars, microphones and PA systems without any problems, although the previous model was designed more for keyboards
British rock musician Eric Clapton used a white “Dynacord CLS 222” from 1989 to 1996 as part of his Soldano/Cornish guitar routing system. The effects device came into the system for the B part of the Cream song Badge. On the original recording, Clapton recorded the part with an original Leslie speaker, but used the Dynacord as a replacement for the performances during the Journeyman World Tour and world tour in 1992.
The guitarist David Gilmour of the rock band Pink Floyd also used a “Dynacord CLS 222” in his guitar and effects device system, which, like Clapton, was also developed by the British electrical engineer Pete Cornish.
The guitarist The Edge of the Irish band U2 also used the “CLS 22” effects device. The French music producer and disc jockey Joakim Bouaziz uses a “Dynacord Leslie simulator CLS 222” in his New York Crowdspacer Studio.

Stereo synth for 40 bucks: a wired heart for scary drones
video upload by Pete Midi
"Be warned: the Wired Heart is not for everyone. It’s not a musical instrument that lets you play Xmas songs. It’s rather a special kind of drone synth that you may use for the score of your next horror movie or just as a rich stereo source for your next sampling session. But if you think this could also be a visually appealing gift, be careful and watch this video first! Otherwise, one day you might say or sing “Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away …”

video upload by Korg
Available exclusively through KORG's Reverb Shop (in the U.S. only)
"You asked, we listened. Due to overwhelming demand after the original re-issue sold out in record time in 2020, KORG has resurrected the classic ARP 2600 full-size synthesizer for an extremely limited run in the USA. https://reverb/ARP2600FS
The Korg ARP 2600 FS is a replica of the 1970s original, handcrafted in Japan and includes USB and DIN-style
MIDI connections, XLR audio outputs, plus the improved ARP 3620 Duophonic Keyboard with an added arpeggiator / sequencer. This iconic synth will arrive in a custom-branded hard shell case, complete with casters.
The original ARP 2600, invented by Dennis Colin and released by Alan R. Pearlman’s ARP Instruments, was one of the first semi-modular synths to hit the market. It has been used by legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Pete Townshend, Orbital and Nine Inch Nails, and even provided the sound of R2-D2 in Star Wars."
Mini press release follows:
"KORG has re-released the legendary ARP 2600 FS synth, which was used to make the sounds for R2D2 in the original films.
A limited run, these ARP 2600s are available exclusively through KORG's Reverb Shop (in the U.S. only) -- and at a highly discounted price you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
Originally launched in 1971, the ARP 2600's role in creating the iconic bleep-bloops of R2D2 is well-documented. In fact, the celebrated semi-modular synth is so renowned that it's been used by massive musicians like Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Edgar Winter, Pete Townshend, and many, many others."

NINA synth: dreams come true (review & jam)
video upload by Pete Midi
"Melbourne instruments NINA shows how synthesizers should be built to provide the best of both worlds: the look and feel of a real instrument and the total recall comfort of a software plugin. "Here's a look at the Yamaha B200 from 1988, and my very first synthesizer from my childhood. You may have seen it in some of my previous videos, but I brought it back to life recently and ended up programming a bunch of cool sounds that you can download if you also own a B200, YS200 or TQ-5. I wrote a couple new tunes here, one of which my featured performance, and I'm just loving the sounds I got, so I think this synth will not be going back in it's case! (Note that the drum sounds are not from the B200, they are from Addictive Drums. The B200 can make drum sounds but does not have drum kits.) If you use Reaper as your DAW, I also made a ReaBank file for it which you can load with the ReaControlMIDI VST, such that you can call up any of the presets over MIDI, etc. Bank 1 has the Preset voice list, Bank 2 has my new sounds, and Bank 3 has the voice list for the RCD1000 ROM voice card:

🎸 In this instrumental series I'm playing some classics of Rock/Pop music history from the 60s and 70s, using my Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Synthesizer and in this case also my Nord Drum 3P together with Ableton Live. I created a session in Ableton with Clips, but ended up creating a structure that was fixed, so I can play live the whole track on the Nord Drum. I automated some reverb and delay for adding movement, and afterwards mixed the song with some saturation, compression and EQ.

MidiSizer MidiGAL w/ MidiPAL v1.4 firmware
via this auction

"MidiSizer MidiGAL, hand built with love by Pete Kvitek and running MidiPAL v1.4 firmware.
It includes 19 different MIDI 'apps', ranging from MIDI debugging or routing utilities to compositional tools like arpeggiators, scale, midi delay, and pattern generators.
Although this MidiGAL is running Mutable Instruments firmware, there is a number of other firmware variants that were developed specifically for MidiGAL.
I think you can flash your own firmware if you know what you're doing.
Product page for MidiGAL is here - midisizer.com/midigal/
MidiPAL firmware info: mutable-instruments.net/midipal
The unit is in a clear acrylic case and ships with the power supply pictured in the listing."
Last pic below is minus the case via the midisizer website which has the following details on the MidiGAL:
"Although MidiGAL can run Mutable Instruments MIDIpal firmware, there is a number of other firmware variants that were developed specifically for MidiGAL:
MidiClk — MIDI clock tester/generator
MidiArp — advanced MIDI arpeggiator
MidiSeq — polyphonic MIDI step sequencer
MidiGAL differences from MIDIpal
While MidiGAL hardware is almost identical to the original MIDIpal, there are some minor differences:
8×2 LCD (MIDIpal uses 8×1)
tactile switch (MIDIpal has no switch)
external EEPROM (MIDIpal has no external EEPROM)
4 x I/O ports (MIDIpal has 8 of them)"
