VINTAGE Oberheim DMX Drum Machine
"This place also does MIDI conversions and other cool stuff to the DMX - lots of people are doing this to their machines now to sync with their other gear. I preferred using the internal “feel” the DMX provides, create the beats and patterns on the unit itself, then sample and create loops in my DAW. Soniccouture Ondes Martenot
"Perhaps one of the most enigmatic musical instruments of all time, The Ondes Martenot ( literally ‘Martenot Waves’) was invented by Maurice Martenot in 1928. The original unreliable tube-based design was refined and later models remained in production until 1988. An interesting overview of the instrument can be seen on Youtube. [posted here]"The Ondes Martenot has been used in many film scores first dating from 1931; Odna by Shostakovich, Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Ghostbusters (1984), A Passage to India (1984), through to present day movies such as Amélie (2001) and recently There Will Be Blood (2007) by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.
THOMAS BLOCH RETURNS
Thomas Bloch is perhaps the most renowned Ondist in the world ; when great musicians and producers are inspired by the sound of the Ondes Martenot, it is often him they turn to. Radiohead, Tom Waits and Damon Albarn have all worked with him...
LE RUBAN - THE RING CONTROLLERThe most famous is the metal ring, which is worn on the finger of the right hand. The ring is not used when the keyboard is being played, like the ribbon controllers we are used to.
When the Ondes is switched to ‘ring mode’ (au ruban), the ring becomes the sole method of determining pitch ; a very skillful technique, particularly so when you consider that in order to produce any sound at all, you must simultaneously manipulate the clear, lozenge shaped device, known as the touche d’intensité..LE TIROIR - THE CONTROL DRAWER
The touche d’intensité is a large button on the control drawer of the Ondes Martenot, and is pushed and tapped to produce the tone of the instrument ; in effect , it controls the volume envelope of the instrument. The touche d’intensité is controlled with the left hand while the player uses either the ring or the keyboard to produce the melody.
Next to the touche d’intensité are a series of switches and dials which control the oscillators and create the timbre of the note - as well as send levels to the three loudspeakers.."The screens:
"Ondes Main Panel
* Send level faders for each of the Ondes Martenot speakers, + line out level
* Faders for each of the 7 oscillators + 'Tutti' switch
* ADSR envelope control ( optional, depending on Setup)
* Brightness control - switchable to 12db Filter with resonance
* Detune, Width and Saturation faders
Ondes Speaker Edit Panel* Convolution modelling of each speaker
* Close, Far and Room stereo mic positions for each speaker
* 4 different original settings from D2 Spring reverb
* AMP and DECAY settings for each IR processor
Ondes Performance Setup
The Setup Panel is a custom scripted MIDI control matrix. Depending on your playing ability and available MIDI controllers, you can configure the Ondes instruments realtime control options in a number of different ways. See ' Ondes Performance Setup Demo ' video in the Video tab.
* Custom Glide ( Ring) Scripting - realtime control of portamento time
* Control pitch and volume independently using Aftertouch, XY pad or any MIDI cc
* 'Exclude Key ' function - emulate touche d’intensité
* Save User control setups and load to any preset
The Poly-Ondes
The Poly-Ondes is a bonus instrument: a polyphonic synth using the Ondes Martenot oscillators and speaker modelling : create fabulous vintage pad sounds with full LFO and filter modulation, detune all 7 oscillators and play them back through the speakers for an incredibly characterful sound. There are 50 Poly-Ondes presets showing the sound design possibilities."

The project came out of Louisville Soundbuilders, a fortnightly meeting of circuitbenders, synth engineers and experimental musicians. After seeing a couple of my failed variations of a single-bus isomorphic keyboard, Tim was intrigued enough to design one even better. He designed multiple PCBs that sandwich together with multiple switch types for velocity sensitive keypresses.
More development on the way! We're working on molds/methods for making hexagonal keycaps. And I'm working on an Arduino-based controller as an alternative to the midibox controller Tim has working already.

We suggest that Medecin Sans Frontieres ( Doctors Without Borders ), the Japanese Red Cross and Shelterbox are good choices for a monetary donation, as they are presently engaged on the ground with the recovery effort, but regardless, we ask that in whatever fashion, no matter where you are, you aid the positive recovery of the japanese people, the human race, and all of the earth from this tragic event."
"The Monome Community, an eclectic ensemble collective of electronic artists, have come together once more, in response to Tohoku Chiho Taiheiyo-oki Jishin, the Tohoku region Pacific Ocean offshore earthquake which rocked Honshu Island Japan only days ago. Using sampled, synthesized representations of seismic event data collected from the devastating earthquakes, participants created a wide variety of remixes and compositions as a cathartic response to the sheer power of the earth.
"We make music and raise awareness in the face of this tragedy because we are musicians and human beings, and in the face of such power, there is nothing that can be done from afar than to stand up and say 'we are aware of your plight, we are with you in spirit, and you are not forgotten'."

The three oscillators first run out of sync and then get synced to see how that affects the sequence. The result is very interesting and ever changing. Adding modulation furthers the experience."

Spectrasonics "Bob Moog Tribute Library" to benefit Bob Moog Foundation
"Bob Moog Foundation Announces Spectrasonics BenefitNew Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere Library and Contest to Win Custom OMG-1 Synth to Raise Funds for the Foundation
ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA — MARCH 21, 2011 — The Bob Moog Foundation today announced that music software developer Spectrasonics has launched a unique, multi-faceted tribute to honor the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Dr. Robert Moog. Spectrasonics has released the “Bob Moog Tribute Library” created by renowned artists for Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere® virtual instrument software, and also kicked off a contest designed around the library, where participants enter to win the one-of-a-kind “OMG-1” hardware synthesizer created by Spectrasonics’ Founder, Eric Persing. 100% of the proceeds from this Tribute go to benefit the Bob Moog Foundation.
Spectrasonics’ Bob Moog Tribute library features over 700 stunning new sounds for Omnisphere, Spectrasonics’ flagship synthesizer, and was produced by Persing. The sounds in the new library were created by more than 40 of the world's top synth artists, remixers and sound designers, including Hans Zimmer, Vince Clarke (Erasure/Depeche Mode), Jean Michel Jarre, The Crystal Method, Jordan Rudess, Money Mark (Beastie Boys/Beck), Bernie Worrell (P-Funk/Talking Heads), Larry Fast (Peter Gabriel/Synergy), Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Air/Fiona Apple), Ryuichi Sakamoto (YMO), Morgan Page (Madonna/Katy Perry), Keith Shocklee (Bomb Squad/Public Enemy), Steve Porcaro (Toto), Fredwreck (Snoop Dogg/50 Cent), Jan Hammer (Jeff Beck/Mahavishnu Orchestra), Michael Boddicker (Michael Jackson), Richard Devine (Aphex Twin), Patrick Moraz (Yes/Moody Blues), Eddie Jobson (UK/Roxy Music), Diego Stocco, Danny Elfman, The Moog Cookbook, and many more.
“Through this stunning Tribute Library, Eric Persing's passion for sonic innovation is manifested in a multi-layered homage to Bob Moog's pioneering work and legacy,” said Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation. “That passion is continued through the myriad of synthesists and sound designers who have participated by donating sonic tributes in the way of patches and sounds. The Bob Moog Foundation is deeply grateful to Eric, Spectrasonics and the participating musicians for the creativity and generosity that has driven this project. Without a doubt, the funding generated from the Tribute Library will be a tremendous help in driving our mission forward.”
The grand prize in Spectrasonics’ contest, the OMG-1 hardware synthesizer, was designed by Persing as a live performance instrument and is not a commercial product — it’s truly one-of-a-kind, integrating the worlds of analog synthesis, computers, software synthesis and the latest multi-touch surfaces into one extraordinary instrument. The state-of-the-art dual manual OMG-1 combines a Moog Little Phatty® analog synthesizer, Spectrasonics’ flagship Omnisphere software synthesizer, a powerful internal Apple Mac Mini computer, dual Apple iPads®, dual iPods®, and Spectrasonics’ brand-new Omni TR™ iPad app — all integrated into a beautiful, hand-crafted curly maple cabinet created by American artisan Daniel Auon.
Contestants vying to win the OMG-1 buy and download the $100 “Bob Moog Tribute Library" for Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere software, then write one or more pieces of music utilizing the sounds from the library. The deadline for submission is July 15, 2011. Spectrasonics will be flying the contest winner to the October 2011 “MoogFest” in Asheville, NC, where Eric Persing will present the OMG-1 grand prize to the winner.Learn more about Spectrasonics’ Bob Moog Tribute Library: http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/tribute and about the contest to win the OMG-1 synthesizer:
