"A very interesting and almost historical synthesizer.

Tone color / quality / character could be described as simply unique.

As far as I know, there are not many K150s made, and K150s are one of only a few (hardware) additive synths ever made.

And, it's a Kurzweil, meaning that there is something about the sound, beside and beyond all the specs and numbers. If you ever have owned a Kurzweil before, you know.

This military / heavy industrial looking K150 is in full working condition (all buttons, display, connections, etc.) except the headphone output.

It is completed with an Apple II system with a MIDI interface card and software. It will definitely save you hassle of searching, getting, waiting, etc, etc...

This Apple II functions as the dedicated graphical patch editor and librarian, using SMP (Sound Modeling Program) software from Kurzweil.

Without that Apple II system, as far as I know, it will be almost impossible to edit. (possible but 240 partials! editing from the front panel?)

The Apple II is completed with a dual / double floppy drive, and a CRT monochrome monitor (green letters!)"

"This song has all the bells and whistles - or at least it is called Bells and Whistles in French. It it one of the least known songs by Belgian techno act Telex.

Here I play it on a group of Casio toy keyboards - or entry level keyboards - in a multitrack recording. I haven't done anything to the sounds - they are as they came from the instruments. However, the ostinato that runs through the entire melody is a result of playing two sounds (on the SA-1 and SA-20) on top of each other."

"A brief demonstration of what the Metasonix eurorack modules sound like on their own.. The initial ~30sec is through a Cwejman sph-2 spatial phaser. Some Eventide timefactor delay near the end. Everything else is only the 5 R-modules being modulated by a VILFO and controlled by the Doepfer a-198 ribbon controller.
The patch is:
- 2 R-54 oscs into R-53 ringmod
- R-53 to R-52 filter
- R-52 to R-51 VCA
- pittsburgh VILFO to R-53 carrier CVin
- A-198 position CV to R54 CVin, gate CV to R-51 VCA CV in
- A-198 pressure CV to R-53 Sweep CV in & R-53 pulserCV in, gate CV to VILFO CV1 in
- A Wiard Envelator is patched between the A-198 gate and whatever it's controlling, for slopes and decay"

It’s like a big psychedelic feast for your ears.

He got signed at his first-ever live show at the age of 17 and throws some of the most epic and outrageous parties/raves in the UK. We traveled to East London where he gave us a tour of his bedroom studio and shared some of the influences behind his 8-Bit sound, his curious predilection for ancient video games, arcade carpets and novelty knits.

Deep Equinoxe Panel Milling

"Using a Fadal 4020 Vertical Machining Center to engrave & drill a synthesizer panel for my modular synthesizer. The spindle runs at 8000 rpm and 48 inch per minute feed rate. The cutter is a 1/8" carbide center drill. The CAM program was FeatureCAM by Delcam. The whole operation was done in about 4 minutes. Three carbide drills were used for the pot, jack and switch holes.
The panel is for an Oakley Deep Equinoxe phase shifter module designed by Tony Allgood of Oakley Modular Systems.

I bought the blank painted panel from Synthesizers.com. It would be better to use an anodized panel for this as the paint tends to chip away while engraving. The depth of the engraving would be less too. I usually have to clamp the panel and adjust the flatness to within 0.002" prior to attempting an engraving like this. I only engrave about 0.003" deep but it looks deeper due to the paint."

Don't get me wrong, it is a very cool, powerful and beautifully made machine, but it just isn't for me. That means my loss is your gain. As you know, these are sold out (a total of 500 will be made), super-hot, and who knows if they'll ever get around to making more. It comes with everything it came with new... i.e. the box (or temporary case), the rubber bands to keep the "case" closed, the USB cable, and obviously, the OP-1 (latest OS installed)."

"I recently picked up a very nice Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-1(This company became Roland). This is an early transistor drum machine that has a variety of presets you can select. You may also press multiple choices and use some mute buttons to vary things. I noticed in the back there is a port for some type of plug. I thought it might be individual triggers for the independent drum sounds which would let you program your own beats.
I chopped off a few old wires and connected them to some of the banana jacks on the BugBrand to see what would happen. I only cut 3 wires so you only can hear 3 sounds I hook up. Kick, Tom, Hat. Clock is coming from the Acidlab Bassline V2."

But on a recent trip to Norfolk in the United Kindom, we got the chance to spend some time at the country house and studio of the music making powerhouse and long time couple Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti, better known as Chris & Cosey.

Not only did Carter and Tutti change the entire electronic music game as founding members of the legendary avant-garde industrial group Throbbing Gristle: they continued their love affair with music, gear and each other over the next 30-odd years with their mind-blowing, ahead-of-the-curve approach to drum machines, sampling, performance, and all manners of visceral electronic skullduggery. “It’s really good to get physical with sound,” says Tutti, “because it does reduce people to human beings, and their physicality, rather than them trying to intellectualize about it. The violence of the sound completely bypasses that.”

Between the electro-pop of Chris & Cosey, the spooky ambience of Carter Tutti or their continuing aural experiments under their mysterious ‘CTI’ moniker, the pair have left an indelible, beautiful bruise on the face of electronic music.

They took us for a spin around the home studio they’ve been recording in for 25 years, demonstrated some of the bits and pieces they’re using in their current incarnation, performed a special improvised track for us, and taught us how to give an asthmatic cat his daily dosage of medicine."
