Studio recording - Roland JX-8P synthesizer & Juno 6 / 2

"A studio recording in session. Preparing the last track for my forthcoming synth-pop album due february 2017.
I'm auditioning sounds for the track while multitracking as well. Tonight I was going through the sweet Roland classics JX-8P, Roland Alpha Juno 2 and the Roland Juno 6 for sounds. All analog classics.
This album will be a homage to all my childhood synth heros, bands and artists that've inspired me throughout the years.
Some of the tracks will be instrumental, but most of them will have vocals in various degree.
Listen to more of my music on:

My tracks pay homage to all synth.pop acts of the 80'ies like Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, Ultravox, OMD, Euryhmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, A-ha and many more.
A use mostly old gear on my tracks and among them Roland Juno 6, Alpha Juno 2, D550 and JX-8P. Korg DW-8000. Roland TR-626 drum machine. Yamaha DX7 and TX802 and drum machine RX11. I use the Novation Mininova as a vocoder on all my tracks. Effects are usually handled by Strymon and TC electronics. Sampling is done on my E-MU ESI-4000 and I mostly use that for drums."

"Live recording of me on the Yamaha DX7. I'm using two of my favourite patches in this imporovised song, The first is a flute-like patch once sourced from a Fairlight bank. It reminds me very much of something Jan Hammer used on the show Miami Vice on several occasions. The other patch is a analog sounding brass patch with good implemenatation of both velocity and after-touch. Both patches have some modifications done by me, but I will not take credit for their original origin.
You can download these two patches as sysex here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bqnpheksev2...

"I have always wanted to make the score to some action-filled b-movie. Never got to do it, but the music I can make!
A kind of improvised performance and recording testing out the arpeggiators and sync of the Roland Juno 6 and Korg DW-8000. Played the melodic part with a Yamaha DX7. The DX can sound very warm and analoge in my opinion with careful programming. Used Strymon BigSky for the reverbs and a T.C. electronic Flashback for delays. Drums provided by Roland TR-626."

"Written and recorded with only the KORG DW8000 synthesizer providing all sounds except for drums.
The KORG DW8000 released in 1985 have two digital oscillators, and within one oscillator is the possibility to choose from 16 different digitally stored waveforms. The rest of the signal path is analog with VCF, VCA. The KORG DW8000 can sound very fat in unison mode."
Korg Poly-800 | Multitrack

"A song with an old analog synth, the KORG Poly-800. The Poly-800 was released in 1983 so it's quite old but it sounds lovely still. The track is entirely made with sounds from the Poly-800 except for the drums. Every track is recorded playing live into the DAW. There is no quantization done here.

Behringer Model D Analog Synthesizer Module Review

Published on Aug 9, 2017
"It's all there. Sweetwater's Daniel Fisher demonstrates the three punchy oscillators, classic 24dB/octave voltage-controlled filter with resonance, envelopes, LFO, portamento, and more. All instantly familiar — only smaller. The Behringer D is a Eurorack-sized reincarnation of the legendary analog monosynth that started it all. From fat pulsing basses to searing leads to celestial pads: the Behringer D puts a world of musical expression under your fingertips."
ROLAND SH-101 + KORG ER-1 ~ Will They Pair? Ep.21
once upon a synth
Published on Aug 9, 2017
"Pairing the Roland SH-101 with a Korg ER-1. The SH-101 is a vintage analog monophonic synthesizer from the 80s. The ER-1 is a digital drum machine from the 90s. Together they ooze vintage 90s techno/house vibes which I explore in this video. I'm largely using preset patterns on the ER-1. The ER-1 is outputting MIDI clock which I then convert into CV and feed into the clock input of the SH-101 to synchronize the sequencer. The SH-101 is then run through the ER-1 via its external audio input."

"I was fortunate to get my hands on (at the time) Scandinavia's only Roland SE-02 synth for a few days. So I took some time to try it out and hooked it up to a Boss RV-500 reverb unit. It's a really lovely sounding analog synth!
The sounds were recorded straight from the SE-02, through the RV-500. No additional processing was used (except for some EQ where mentioned)."

Frap Tools SAPÈL teaser
Learning Modular
Published on Aug 9, 2017
"I’m so happy with the Frap Tools SAPÈL Tamed Random Source that I wanted to share a little preview of it before I finished my normal 'training' videos on it.
This is an otherwise-boring arpeggio animated by three of the random voltage streams from one half of a SAPÈL: the quantized 'n+1' stream (the green trace) is controlling the tuning interval between a pair of PWM’d square wave oscillators; the quantized “2n” stream (the blue trace) is selecting the “vowel” on the LimaFlo Motomouth formant filter; the smoothly fluctuating stream (the pink trace) is controlling the cutoff of a Moog Mother-32 LPF between the oscillators and the Motomouth.
I’ll be releasing a few movies about the SAPÈL at the end of August that goes much deeper, including probability distribution, random triggers, and more."
SNAZZY FX- NOISE PATCH2- LOUD AND WEIRD

Published on Aug 9, 2017
"in this video, we take a look at using a bunch of SNAZZY FX modules with the sequencer to create some "out there" sounds. The Hi_GAIn, Kitty Eyes, and Eternal Spring Filter all work very well together, and make exploration of noise, chaos, super aggressive trash, and subtle dirt quite simple. In this video we are using the Hi GAIN to process one percussion sound (from the ERICA SYNTHS PICO DRUMS) and the multiple ins and outs on the HI GAIN are being used for feedback loops and cross coupling as well as cv in and out with the Eternal Spring Filter AND with the Kitty Eyes jacked in as well. Also, we are using the KICK_ME as the foundation.
With this video we are trying to show how easy it is to bring a wide range of NEW sounds into your system. And though we kept the results dry, it would be very easy to patch the output of the HI_Gain into the Wow and Flutter delay or into a reverb. SNAZZYFX.COM"

New England Audio Retroaktiv HLFO Eurorack Module
New England Analog Archives
Published on Aug 8, 2017
This is the first post to feature the New England Audio Retroaktiv HLFO eurorack module.
"The Retroaktiv HLFO (Haptic LFO) is a 10HP module for Eurorack systems. It is a voltage controlled LFO with a touch sensor, noise source, and sample & hold unit. It features a suite of useful functions, packed into a small module. Features include: LFO with voltage controlled rate and amplitude. LFO can be controlled by force sensor on panel, or by external CVs. Force sensor output = 0-5V. Built in sample & hold with noise generator. When no external source is connected to the S&H, HLFO noise source is normalized to the S&H input. S&H rate and amplitude can be controlled by external CVs or the onboard touch sensor.
In this video, I am running a VCO through a 2-pole Oberheim-style VCF. I'm generally running the main LFO out (the output with amplitude attenuation) to the VCO, and am running the sample & hold output to the filter cutoff. Sometimes I have the touch sensor routed to the filter or the VCO. Even if something is plugged into the touch sensor output, the touch sensor still gets normalized to the rate and amplitude inputs of the LFO unless something is connected to those jacks.
The oscilloscope in the video is connected to the main LFO output. Despite all of the wacky waveforms I'm making in this video, the HLFO can function like a standard tri/squ/S&H LFO. Any keyboard aftertouch sensor can also be connected to the HLFO, which makes it a great module to interface with a mod wheel or aftertouch."

Bob Moog Summer Raffle for a Memorymoog Plus & Science of Synthesis Summer Camps!
via The Bob Moog Foundation
"Summer is full of all kinds of wonderful treats, and the subject of our raffle is no exception.
We are excited to be launching our summer raffle for a vintage Memorymoog Plus synthesizer in excellent technical and physical condition. As you know by now, our raffles provide both a very lucky winner with an extraordinary synthesizer as well as providing the Bob Moog Foundation with important funding for our hallmark education project, Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, and for the preservation of the Bob Moog Foundation Archives.
Read more about the Memorymoog Plus and enter to win the raffle here.
In addition to the long list of the unique functionality of the Memorymoog, the Memorymoog Plus differs from the original model by its added features of a MIDI interface, sequencer, and enhanced oscillator stability. Its lauded sonic power comes from the three oscillators per each of the six voices, resulting in a staggering total of 18 oscillators! It also boasts six amps, six filters, 12 ADSR envelopes, and has an estimated value of $10,000. As if all of that wasn't enough, the karma factor on this instrument is extremely high. Many thanks to Lee Keeley who donated the Memorymoog Plus to us, and to synth tech extraordinaire Wes Taggart, who donated his careful restoration of the instrument. Your support has made this raffle possible!
Enter to win the Memorymoog Plus here.
And on the Science of Synthesis Summer Camps:
"Our First Science of Synthesis Summer Camps!
The Bob Moog Foundation has spent the past six years educating almost 10,000 elementary school children about the science of sound through our hallmark educational project Dr. Bob's SoundSchool. This summer we expanded on that effort and by providing two weeks of summer camp to middle school students who spent every day learning about the science of synthesis at the Asheville Museum of Science's STEM Lab. The interactive camp, taught by former Moog Music engineer August Worley, introduced the basic principles of synthesis through synthesizers, oscilloscopes, custom educational materials, and through small synthesizer components developed by littleBits.
The curriculum that we created for the camps is our first step in developing a Dr. Bob's SoundSchool program for grades 6-8. Thank you for your continued support as we grow this important educational initiative!
Hope your summer has been full of sound, exploration, and discovery, too!"

Elektron Releases 2323 - Roland X0X Based Sample Pack
"The X0X series of drum machines are all nothing short of legendary: the cream of the crop of analog drum machines, and the core of so much of the music we all love. Naturally you want to fill your Digitakt with samples of these fine machines, so we teamed up with Samples from Mars to bring you a massive collection of freshly sampled delights.
Samples from Mars used their entire collection of 909’s, 808’s, and 606’s (including a modified one) recorded in various ways (tape, MPC60, SP1200, or digitally). Combine that with multi-sampled groups with varying degrees of each sound’s parameters tweaked, and vari-speed tape-pitched hits, this is one seriously versatile Sound Pack."
