Update to iPad and iPhone Looper App “Loopy” Brings Loop Effects, New Possibilities for Musical Expression
"Melbourne, Australia, April 1, 2013
Indie developer A Tasty Pixel’s live-looping app 'Loopy' gets an update today that introduces new loop effects. The features lend a new dimension to performances and musical experimentation. Loopy lets musicians and tinkerers alike rapidly build multi-layered musical pieces by recording or importing looped layers of sound.
A Tasty Pixel’s recording and loop-layering iPad and iPhone app Loopy today gets a significant update, bringing loop effects to the app’s already extensive feature set. The new effects, reverse and decay, introduce new possibilities for musical expression and have been the features most frequently requested by users.
'Loopy lets anyone with an iPad or iPhone create music in an exciting and novel way: By recording and looping layers of music,” said A Tasty Pixel founder and developer Michael Tyson. “Both Loopy’s hobbyist and professional users love it for the creativity boost it gives them, and I think they’ll love the things they can do with these new effects.'
Developed by the same developer that produced Audiobus, the revolutionary inter-app audio routing platform, Loopy already works with Audiobus’ large and growing community of apps, allowing users to record and loop instrument and synthesizer apps, or apply an extensive variety of live effects to recordings.
Other features in the new update include a number of new actions that can be toggled by MIDI controllers, several significant improvements to the recording workflow, and enhanced latency compensation.
Loopy HD, the iPad version of the live-looping app, is currently on sale for 50% off.
Device Requirements: iPad, iPhone 3Gs or newer, or 3rd-generation iPod Touch or newer (microphone accessory recommended) running iOS 4.0 or later.
Pricing and Availability: Loopy, the iPhone-only version of the live looper app, is available for $2.99 exclusively through the App Store in the Music category. Loopy HD, the iPad and Universal version of the app, is presently on sale for $3.99 (normally available for $7.99) through the App Store.

New Intellijel Linix Module & Richard Smith Joins the Team
via Intellijel
"Linix is the successor to the now discontinued HexVCA module. It comprises six high quality 2164 based linear VCA circuits with CV attenuation and BIAS control for each channel.
The first five channels normal to a summing amp that feeds the input of sixth channel. This allows you to have voltage control of the master sum.Patching into an individual output channel breaks that channel from the master sum. If the direct output is used for each channel then the sixth channel becomes an additional independent VCA as well (Hex VCA).
Each channel has an led to monitor CV activity.
The SUM output has an additional set of leds to monitor the bipolar state of the final sum and a clip led to monitor the absolute max signal level.
Available very soon!

"Finally something which resemble a track. Three sequences from the oberkorn playing. The slow bass note is the Livewire AFG with a litle bit of harmonic variation through a Sea Devils filter with cut-off modulated by the E350. High sequences are two sines from the Hertz Donut through an AMSynths JP6 filter. The plucky sequence is the Make Noise DPO through the QMMG. Lot's of delays (Pittsburg, Syntesis technology Mini delay, AS Echo)."

ANI - NanoStudio performance patches demo
Published on Mar 31, 2013 Amy Lee·15 videos
"Every performance I change the patches around a little to mesh better with the types of music that evening. Tonight's performance is going to feature glitchy theremins (yes), smashed up beats, and some real spacey sounds with The Use (Michael Durek), Jack Hertz, Bitwise, and me (ANI). So this patch set has more pads on the higher numbers.
The app being used is NanoStudio and about half of the sounds are synthesized, half are samples w/ a lot of effects. Not seen is a USB keyboard; velocity from the keyboard also modulates parameters. This bank has 64 patches in it.

Handmade Analog Distortion/Modulation Music Box

Published on Mar 31, 2013 Kyle Evans·107 videos
via this auction
"This is a handmade circuitbent sounding distortion/modulation sound processor that will distort, modulate and rip apart any sound you throw into it, all housed within an old music box found at a thrift store. In addition to it beaing able to process anything you want including microphones, guitars, synths, etc., it also has an internal contact microphone that can be switched on. This internal mic picks up vibrations on the box itself including taps, scratches, and of course, the tune of the windup music player. The modulation is controlled by 3 light mounted to the exposed circuit board. Altering the light using shadows, flashlights, lighters and strobes makes for radical modulation craziness of whatever sound you are processing. The possibilities of what you can do with this thing are endless. Plug your iPod into the input and tear up some classical music. Play it like a drum or hold up resonating metal objects to make the internal mic go berserk. Play with dynamic lighting like strobe lights or camera flashes for dramatic results. Hold the box up against a speaker for some screaming feedback. The more you play with it, the more you learn about what all it is capable of.
The music box has been completely customized with added wood panels and a clear acrylic top. Has quite a few scratches and chips on the box, but thats because its old and was found in this condition (thats what makes it beautiful). Wind up music player starts playing when the lid is lifted. Runs on a 9v battery. Box is signed by the artist.
Controls:
The two 1/4" plugs on top are the output (top) and input (lower). The knob next to these controls the output volume.
The red switch has 3 settings; up for the internal contact mic, down for the external input, and center for off. You can switch rapidly between external input and internal mic for cool effect.
The knob next to the switch is a kind of gate threshold adjustment. Turning it down only allows the loudest sounds to pass through, while cranking it all the way up lets everything flood through.
The circuit board is exposed incase anyone would be interested on modding, bending or copying the circuit (feel free!)

Demonstration of the re-developed Theremin Cello

"The Theremin Cello was another invention of the Russian physicist Leon Theremin but it was never widely known. My Italian friend Augusto Triani decided last year to give it a new life and he started building very nice housings for these instruments. I was commissioned to develop the electronic "heart" for them to give them music and a "soul".
Today my prototype is ready and working. Although I had not yet the time to practice I wanted to do a short presentation. More to come soon!"

"This is my first attempt on the MC-909 which I just received 3 days ago via ebay. This is un-effected sound directly from the digital out on the unit. All sounds are built in sounds that have been tweaked to some degree. The workflow is pretty smooth and conducive to creativity. The sound editing can get very deep. There are a few quirks that I've found in the OS, but easy enough to work around. Specifically you tend to lose edits in the patch when editing the midi data and vice versa. You just need to hit save after everything you do. I remember that the MC-303 had the same issue. All in all, it's a lot of fun to play with once you get used to the quirky Roland way of doing things (I'm a Korg fanboy, what can I say)."

Malekko Raffle to Support Muffwiggler
Hello everyone! Malekko has set up a killer raffle to help support Muffwiggler. If you aren't familiar with Muffwiggler, it is one of the best synth and modular forums out there. It is without a doubt the premier modular forum of our time.
The raffle runs through April 4 and is $10 an entry. The drawing will be held on Friday, April 5. You can donate in additional increments of $10 to increase your odds - each $10 you donate goes towards a separate entry. This is open to international readers as well and you do not need to be a member of the forum to participate. You can enter by donating via the Donate button here. Once you make a donation, either take a screenshot of the transaction or forward the Paypal email with username to josh@malekkoheavyindustry.com
So what's up for grabs? One lucky winner will receive the following:
1 Richter Anti
1 Richter Osc II
1 Richter NR
1 Richter Envelator
1 Richter Megawave
1 Richter Dual Borg
1 Malekko LoFi MKII delay (kills on synths)
I'll also throw in a MATRIXSYNTH T-shirt, a magnet and some cards.
You can check out each module at http://malekkoheavyindustry.com. Note they are eurorack format, but even if you do not have a eurorack system do consider entering. You can save the modules for when you do, you can gift or sell them to someone else, or you can of course donate and not put your name in the drawing. The point of the raffle is more about lending support to one of our greatest synth forums, http://www.muffwiggler.com.
Thanks also goes to Juliana Jaeger on Facebook for posting it and bringing it to my attention.

"The XS is a true semi-modular analog synthesizer with 2 oscillators (including PWM and osc sync), 3 sub oscillator divisions, a ring modulator and noise source, mixer with pre-filter overdrive, multi-mode filter, post-filter overdrive, velocity sensitive envelopes, and LFO with MIDI sync capabilities. The XS can be controlled via MIDI or CV/Gate signals, and act as a MIDI to CV converter. Modulation and audio inputs/outputs for all sections allow users to create any routings they wish. Comprehensive modulation routings already built in and prepatched.
From delicate liquid tones, to ripping basses, aggressive distortions, and simply bizarre sounds, the XS truly has it covered. The XS also excels in creating analog percussion, and processing any external audio.
This item ships factory direct, and comes with a 1 year warranty.
