There's some interesting synth spotting in this one including some unique instruments by GayBird.
Pictured below you can see some of that gear along with an EMS SYNTHI and an Analogue Systems eurorack modular. Further below you'll find an image of the "Crispy Cloud", "a special guitar for new media electronic musician. Acoustic guitar got six strings and a resonator, while this custom-made cloud-shaped guitar got 70 buttons and a touch-screen device."  In the video you can also see a monome64, djtechtools MIDI Fighter and Ableton's Push. There's an Undead Instruments TimeFrog III at 2:53 and 3:17.

Well, sort of.  :)

A funny side note is I was checking out my Nord Micro Modular today and flipping through some of the patches loaded on it.  I came to patch 22 titled "Classic PPG". I was curious what sort of oscillator was loaded so I squinted and took a look.  You can see what I saw in the image below. The first oscillator is named "marko ettlich"! I couldn't believe it. This was before I saw this DIY PPG BTW. I wasn't sure if I was going to post anything on it, but when I saw Marko's post, I new I had to. The Nord Modular editor lets you rename modules. It's actually a formant oscillator like the ones you see below it. According to Marko, he created the patch back in 1997. I started the original MATRIXSYNTH.com back in October of 1997. It all comes full circle...

Here's a little paraphonic action (chords) while Polymath's onboard sequencer steps a steady rhythm. Nothing is processed and MIDI is NOT used in this example. The chords were played live, hence the slight off-beat nature of the performance.

After the first bit, you'll hear ENV1 being switched to ENV2 (manually).

1972 Interview with Stevie Wonder on Moog

Stevie Wonder back in 1972: "A lot of people don't consider the Moog an instrument, in a sense, and they feel it's gonna take a lot of work away from musicians and all that. But I feel it is an instrument and is a way to directly express what comes from your mind. It gives you so much of a sound in the broader sense. What you're actually doing with an oscillator is taking a sound and shaping it into whatever form you want. Maybe a year and a half ago I couldn't have done these kinds of tracks. I don't know. I think your surroundings and environment have a great deal to do with what come out of you, how you write. I wrote Evil, for instance, in the studios the day after Memorial Day – which is the same as your Remembrance Day – and did it straight away."

The CS40M is a 4 oscillator duophonic analogue synthesizer with memories (20 of them).

The sound is big, warm and smooth - that great CS filter shines through - flexible enough to cover huge basses (2 additional subbass sinewaves in the VCA section), strong leads and weird percussive effects. This is due in no small part to the envelopes for both the VCA and Filter sections that are switchable between x5 and Normal for additional precision in shaping your sounds.

The CS40M has a super fast LFO with multiple waveforms, that can be changed independently at the destination (S&H at Filter, Pulse at OSC1, etc).

There's also a wonderful ring modulator and a 3rd envelope for routing to the oscillators and LFO.

Plus you have a nice set of performance controls to the left of the keyboard, including knobs and sliders that give you additional control over filter cutoff and envelope sustain..."

This was supposed to embargoed until November 8th, but it looks like the little bits are out of the box. Below are some shots via lhuga on Flickr and some initial details.   Some of you might remember Little Bits from previous posts (see the LittleBits channel for more). LittleBits was created by Ayah Bdeir. You can see her in this video. The first post went up back on August 12, 2008. I always wondered if more synth bits would be coming. Thanks to KORG it looks like they have.

The price for the kit appears to be 16,000 Yen which translates to roughly $162 US.

Via the seller: "I was recently clearing out some BBC Micro stuff and came across this Clef PDSG (Programmable Digital Sound Generator). It was the last product made by Clef. They hoped it would be taken up by Acorn computers, but it didn't happen, and I think they went out of business after that. It was supplied pretty much as seen, as a DIY project. I initially couldn't find any mention of it online, so I've put up a page to commemorate it here, with pictures and sound samples:

"In 1982 the company introduced the product it is best known for these days in the form of the Clef Microsynth (Later the B30 Microsynth), a budget 2 oscillator analogue subtractive synthesiser that was the only product sold by the company that was not developed by Mr. Boothman but rather a design originally published in P.E. magazine as a construction article and conceived by Allan Bradford, it is similar conceptually to the slightly more complex Jen SX-1000 and EDP Wasp in that it uses digital electronics to keep down costs but with it come some operational oddities such as the use of a 0.35V/Octave control voltages meaning that the only other synth that it interfaced with was the EMS, but it was cheap and thus sold reasonably well.

Here's a very quick first glance at the Analogue Solutions Polymath.

Shown in the video is the step sequencer running a bass sequence in unison mode, and then later in POLY mode, playing 4 notes.

The Polymath is an amazingly deep and complex synth, so several videos will be required to demonstrate its many strengths. Stay tuned!
