New Intellijel & Cylonix Shapeshifter Dual Complex Morphable Wavetable VCO

shapeshifter demo1 Published on Nov 14, 2013 cylonix1·9 videos

"Demo of preset stepping and morph on the Cylonix/Intellijel Shapeshifter VCO module"

via Intellijel

"Cylonix and Intellijel have collaborated to bring you a very sophisticated and deeply complex Wavetable VCO. At the core of this module is very powerful FPGA board that he has pushed to the absolute max of its capabilities and crammed full of features. We wanted to create a module that really worked well in the modular context so there are a lot of modulation and control possibilities.

Features at a glance:

preset sequencing and morphing,
delay based resonator,
64 band vocoder mode
special audiorate modulation modes (MOD A)
analog wavefolder
extensive sync, pulse and modB options
detuneable 8 note chords and tons more
WAVETABLES
Each VCO can select from 128 banks of wavetables , each with 8 individual 512-sample waveforms for a total of 1024 waves.
The choice of waveform within the currently selected bank is under voltage control. There is smooth interpolation between the waveforms within a bank, allowing a very wide range of different possible waveshapes.

CHORDS
Oscillator 1 can be operated in a CHORD mode, which runs 8 copies of the oscillator in parallel with adjustable detuning, leading to very fat, rich waveforms. The oscillators have extensive modulation capabilities including audio rate (98KHz) Frequency and Phase Modulation (FM and PM) via external sources. Nonlinear combination processes allow the outputs of the two oscillators to interact to generate complex timbres and sonic textures.
There are 64 user selectable chords.

WAVEFOLDER
The SHAPESHIFTER module also includes the analog wave folder circuitry from
module to add analog warmth and metallic rasps to the digital oscillator output.
External signals can also be patched in.

PRESETS
The module includes a sophisticated preset mode where panel settings can be stored. There are 12 user-programmable preset slots and another 52 volatile slots that can be used as a scratchpad. These scratchpad slots are initialized to interesting presets on module powerup. The capabilities of the preset mode is not limited to mere passive storage of settings, however. In this mode the user can also step through, or sequence, the settings, either in order or randomly in response to pulses input to the external sync input. This gives the user the ability to generate complex sequences of sounds. The preset mode also allows the user to morph between the current panel settings and a preset providing a very powerful real-time performance tool.

SYNC
8 Different sync modes: HARD, SOFT, REV, HOLD, BUMP, 2=1, 1=2, OFF
with the ability to internally sync to a sub oscillator

PULSE
User selectable modes for the PULSE output: OR, AND, XOR, GLCH, +OSC1, EOC, +OSC2, -OSC2

MOD A modes: (audio rate modulation)
COMBO IN, SHAPE IN, PHASEMOD, VOCODER

MOD B options (all with CV control)

-Combo modes for OSC1 and OSC2:
NORMAL, RING, MIN, PONG, INLV, AND, XOR, GLCH
-Waveform TILT
-Chord mode overdrive
-Delay depth and FB
-Percussive mode decay time

There is so much more but it is better covered in the manual and suite of demos."

"The new A-166-2 '...will also include - among other functions - a flipflop.

Sometimes I'd like to have a flipflop function in certain patches.
A simple zero-crossing comparator could be added to this module too.

The A-166-2 will probably also include a rising edge detector (outputs a short pulse at the rising edge of a digital input signal) and a falling edge detector (outputs a short pulse at the falling edge of a digital input signal).

I think also about a pitch-change-detector (or more general CV-change-detector).

It outputs a signal whenever a CV connected to it's input changes (probably with three outputs: positive/negative/both)..."

A venerable AKS Synthy from EMS is mangled with EHX Cathedral and Stereo MemoryMan. No overdubs, no techno tricks, (maybe) no music. Who knows. B.T.W. Templi Resurgentes Equites Synarchici is a tribute to the genius of Umberto Eco. Hats off."

"Here’s a rundown of some of the more interesting modifications to my two-headed Game Boy rig:

- Custom enclosure.
- Merged two Game Boy Colors into enclosure (allowing for 8 synth channels).
- Hardwired sync between the two Game Boys.
- Integrated analog parametric EQ.
- Integrated analog amplifier.
- Bypassed the original headphone amplifiers to reduce unwanted noise/hum.
- Added Summing/Signal Inverting to reduce unwanted noise/hum.
- “Under-Clocked" the bottom Game Boy's crystal-oscillator with a slower crystal (this slows down the processor and drops the frequency/pitch of the audio output, allowing for deeper low end).
- Added screen lights that were taken out of old Game Boy Advances.
- In addition to the hardware modifications I also created over 375 custom drum samples and a set of 375 N.E.S Pulse-wave samples (15 different chords (Major, Minor, 5ths, etc) played in all 12 root notes (C, C#, D, D# etc)!

Combining these mods into one unified system let me explore different ways of working with the Game Boy and I hope that process can be heard in the music on this EP!"

I posted this message on facebook!

'Hi All, well for those following my up and coming next *new* synth- the Nexus- I have spent just over a week working with some slight changes here and there, as well as a couple of circuits too. Basically, all that I have designed so far is top. I have been working most of the last couple of days, now applying what I've designed into the layout of the PCBs and front panel. Over today, I've just let this thing run it's self in the background. I must say, it's been playing some of the most depressing sounds that I've heard in a long time. Melancholics will delight! This thing is coming straight out of the cold war!'

"Do-it-yourself USB MIDI interface

We dreamt of a really simple DIY kit – so simple that it would allow beginners to enter the world of DIY with a big smile – and yet, interesting enough to be useful in any kind of Eurorack setup. That’s how the CVpal was born! The kit contains only 25 parts to solder; but is an incredibly useful tool allowing you to connect your computer or iPad/iPhone (with camera connection kit) to your modular system or (neo-)vintage analog equipment.

The CVpal features a large palette of control modes – monophonic with velocity and extra square oscillator, monophonic with clock outputs, duophonic, dual monophonic, or even quad trigger conversion! Its 12-bit DAC with an 8-point software calibration curve makes it more accurate than more expensive products.

A simple stand-alone case is also available for the CVpal – making it useful outside of the modular – with a stompbox or a desktop analog synth for example..."

Robotic Drums for iOS Now Available

Robotic Drums (features) - A Drum Synth with Probability Sequencer for iOS
Published on Nov 14, 2013 kbroom·21 videos - follow-up to this video.

"Robotic Drums (features) - A Drum Synth with Probability Sequencer for iOS"

iTunes: Robotic Drums - Big Robot Studios

"Robotic Drums is an analog modeled drum synth coupled with a probability sequencer. This special combination, makes the app suitable for live sound manipulation, sequence experimentation and regular beats. The main highlights for this app are:

- A minimalist interface, with a high emphasis in flow.
- 6 analog modeled synthesized voices.
- A probability sequencer. You control how "random" a sequence is.
- Quantized pattern switching.
- Dropbox support for saving sessions and sharing across devices.
- AudioBus support.
- Midi clock sync support.

Some details:

VOICES

There are 6 analog modeled synthesized voices, each with a noise and an oscillator section. This flexible configuration allows each voice to generate sounds that range from punchy bass drums, to snappy snares, to lo-fi tones, to sound effects and much else in between.

THE PROBABILITY SEQUENCER

The sequencer for each voice is based on probabilities. A step on a sequence is not just a "switch" but a measure of "how likely is this step to be triggered". This allows for highly dynamic sequences that maintain a certain base, but never sound the same from one pass to another.

THE PATTERNS SECTION

Each session can hold 16 patterns. Switching patterns in a live situation is always controlled by a "pattern quantization" parameter, which determines when the pattern switch actually happens. This allows for pattern switches to occur exactly when expected, maintaining the musical flow of a piece.

SESSIONS

Sessions can be saved to Dropbox, this allows to share sessions across devices or even to use as an easy method to share patches with the community."
