Medusa Synth Sequencer/GRID Tutorial

Published on Sep 12, 2018 ProckGnosis

"This is a Dreadbox-Polyend Medusa tutorial, looking only at the sequencer and GRID, and giving some step-by-step instructions how to use some of the sequencer/GRID functions.

The 5 Parts of the Tutorial:
1. Setting Up the Sequencer/GRID (02:44)
2. Adding Note Data (recording) (05:16)
3. Editing Note Data (06:26)
4. Working with Patch Modifying (PM) Data (07:52)
5. Misc. Examples and Screwing Around (15:02)

The GRID and the ability to create and save Patch Modifying Data in the GRID really gives the Medusa some interesting capabilities to shape the Medusa's sound. The more I played with it, the more I realized how creative you could get with this.

The reworked ProckGnosis theme is an expansion on the recording used for the Dreadbox Tour and Interview video, and contains only sounds from the Medusa.

This was filmed using a prototype Medusa as explained in the video, but everything I demo and convey in the video should work for ANY Medusa.

Cheers!"

Roland MC-303 Groovebox

Published on Sep 12, 2018 tiergrinder

"Roland MC-303 Groovebox was my second "synth" that I ever got, and I think I got it around 2001. Others were buying MC-505 and MC-307's back then, but I had to settle for second hand MC-303.

Rolands MC-303 has got it's fair share of bashing during all these years, but there is still something that I really like about it. I have always thought that MC-303's drum samples were good and it had better drum kits that following MC-307 and 505. Especially the 808 sounds have great presence. Kicks and toms boom, Snares and claps snap like they should and hihats sizzle bright.

TR-909 sounds are good too, the toms have that round full sound and snares and kicks pound like they should. Maybe the hihats are bit weaker, but thats made up with great ride and crash cymbals. On top of these the MC-303 has tons of great percussions from 707 and 727 drum machines and lots of acoustic drum sounds for break beats, jungle and drum'n'bass. And it has that classic TR-recording in its sequencer, where you can tap the beat realtime or use the classix X0X style programming.

This first simple demo shows some of the better preset patterns and templates that are hidden in underneath all that late 90's crazy techno and goa trance stuff."

"With its Moss Oscillator, multifunction envelope, random voltages, and playfully inviting banana patch points and touchplate keyboard, the Keyed Mosstone is all about exploring new sound through physical interaction and game-like play. Keyed Mosstone is an inspiring and quirky standalone synthesizer from Lorre Mill.

The Keyed Mosstone's primary sound source is the Moss Oscillator: a triangle oscillator with variable noise amount, then fed into a dedicated Lockhart wavefolder. A two-stage envelope generator can either be looped or triggered via the keyboard, allowing for multiple styles of interactive play. The keyboard itself has a deceptively simple design for the power it contains: it acts not only as a tunable pitch controller, but also allows touch access to random voltage routing and envelope loop state, acting like a momentary tactile patch matrix.

And of course, the Keyed Mosstone is fully patchable, with linear and exponential FM and CV inputs for most parameters. Just add some banana cables and get patching!

"The G1 is a DSP based virtual analog modular synthesizer. It requries programming via Clavia's editor software, but is fully programmable and very powerful. The editor requires a PC running Windows 95 up to XP, or a Mac running OS 9 up to the latest version of MAC OS. The voice architecture of this synthesizer depends completely on how it is programmed and can configured to be anything from a complex monophonic synth, to a 32 voice poly synth, and anywhre in-between."

So, did the G1 name come only after the G2 was released? If not, then G1 is a user created name.
