Indigo Dusk

Published on Jan 12, 2019 voltlife

"An ambient exploration, mostly self-running, that uses a few tricks to get more interest out of limited sequencing..

Bass swells: AFG alien saws through STG Sea Devils Filter.

HIgh fizzy stereo sweeps: AFG animated pulses through Belgrad in High/Notch mode with Span modulated by a VCLFO. Stereo sweep by WMD Performance Mixer.

Vocoder choir: Fumana, using random speech samples from Radio Music as modulator; carrier is PPG-like wavetables from E352 in Cloud+Morph mode, run through clouds for smearing into quasi-chords. The EF all out from Fumana modulates the speed of an LFO that drives the centre frequency of Fumana, for varying phaser-like sweeps.

Occasional digital synth blips: the other E352 output through Optomix, opened by a Descent envelope. Sequenced by a Moskwa, which could get boring quickly, but Moskwa's clock is driven by a Doepfer A160-5 for varying clock speeds, and the Descent envelopes are triggered by shifting Euclidean rhythms.

Bell/pluck riff: Rings (what else?!) sequenced by Verbos Voltage Multistage through a VCA, with attenuation changing randomly each bar for variety. To make Rings sound marginally less Rings-y, I modulate its frequency with bandpass-filtered noise at varying frequencies, which gives a slightly noisy or warbly edge to the sound. Brightness and Damping modulated every bar for further variation.

Main modulation sources: Doepfer A149-1/2, A143-4, Erica Black Octasource, Triple Sloth.

Mixing and fx: everything into WMD Performance Mixer, with Erebe Verb on Aux 1 and a mix of Demora into Erbe Verb and plain Demora on Aux 2. Erbe Verb's Decay and Demora's feedback are modulated by random gates from A149-2. I use an L-1 Stereo Microcompressor in the final Send/Return, mainly as a limiter to reign in the occasional peak, but I think I'm still getting a bit of clipping, so I need to work on the makeup gain."

Distco - Modal 008 + Strymon Magneto Modular Tape Delay

Published on Jan 12, 2019 Distortion Productions

"I fell in love with the refined sound and unique interface of the Modal 008 polyphonic analog synth at Perfect Circuit a couple years ago. I finally found a good deal on one. It sounds amazing, but once you get outside the synth's signal path, a little effects processing goes a long way. So one of the effects processors I wanted to introduce the Modal to was the Strymon Magneto virtual tape delay module. The Magneto introduced a whole new dimension to the Modal's sound. In this clip, I experimented a bit with the pair, modulating the Magneto with the Xaoc Batumi and Cwejman D-LFO. The beats are courtesy of the Vermona DRM3-Mk2, sequenced by Elektron Machinedrum. It was filmed on an iPhone X with a Moment 1.33x anamorphic lens."

The Sound Blaster Card Keyboard - 21 Factory Patches + FM Slider-Editing

Published on Jan 12, 2019 MrCaliforniaD

"YAMAHA PSS-460 / PSS-470 / PSS-560 / PSS-570

This synthesizer line are not toys. Back in the 80s, YAMAHA used their famous YM3812 FM chip, used in the original Sound Blaster and AdLib Music Synthesizer PC cards. and put it in keyboards for the home market.

These little keyboards are incredibly fun to play, and the FM slider based editing is a delight.

If, like me, you like to cruise in the memory lane, this thing will bring you back to your first PC that was equipped with a primitive 2 operator FM sound synthesizer card. We used to think it was amazing compared to the square-wave based pc speaker.

I modified my keyboard with MIDI IN using a Highly Liquid UMR2 module.

Sorry. I did not keep any schematics since this module is so simple to install. If you have a polyphonic keyboard that tracks the notes on the keybed using a matrix, but lacks MIDI capabilities, this is what you need.

I you are looking for a Highly Liquid UMR2 module, the creator of the board stopped doing them, but he was kind enough to make the design "open source". In other words, anyone can make them legally."

Omnisphere (How to create a Sequence in the Berlin School Style)

Published on Jan 10, 2019 Biodiode - Electronic Music & Media Composer

"Head on over to https://www.biodiode.com/creating-a-s... where you can read a blog article on this short tutorial.

This is my first proper video tutorial so go easy on the feedback :) In this video I show you how I go about creating a melodic sequence in the Berlin School style. There is a little bit of music theory in as much as you need to know the difference between a Major and minor scale. I will be tackling these in a future tutorial so don't worry if you aren't up to speed on how to spot the difference."

Elby Designs MonoWave Monophonic PPG Wave Synthesize

"This is a Elby Designs MonoWave Synthesizer. It contains all of the waveforms from the PPG Wave Synthesizer in their original 8-bit glory, so you can get very close to the "PPG WaveComputer", "Wave 2.0", and "Wave 2.2" synthesizer tones with little effort. This unit was purchased in December and is still in excellent condition. It was only used in my home studio briefly. I have too much gear and really need to thin the heard a bit. In addition to the unit, I am including a very nice 19" x 16" rack case that will protect this synthesizer from damage if you wish to take the unit on the road or travel with the unit and rest assured that it will remain protected. I will also include the original A/C adapter, a printed copy of the manual, and the optional little grey rubber feet that came with the unit. The build quality is good and the amount of sounds you can get out of this unit is amazing. This unit also has an on-board arpeggiator. Please note that the MonoWave is unable to store sounds in patch memory, so what you create on the panel is what you get. This unit weighs 22.2 pounds..."

"EML Electrocomp 101 duophonic synthesizer. The ElectroComp 101 is a suitcase synthesizer which rivals other 1970s synths from Moog and Arp. Electronic Music Laboratories introduced the 101 in 1972, and ceased production in 1976. Notable users include Tommy Mars, Foreigner, Weezer, and Devo.

This particular synth is in great shape and sounds wonderful. It has a unique character to it and the possibilities are truly endless for making melodic sounds or effects."

Yamaha MODX OBXA Super Phatt Sound

Published on Jan 12, 2019 synthartist69

"This is a sound I created for the MODX from an existing brass patch. Can't remember which one. Sounds similar to an Oberheim OBXA Brass patch. For this song it really needs slight distortion added to the patch as was used on the original but I just went with this. Sorry, my playing is not perfect. When making these videos, it can be time consuming to start all over when you make a mistake. I know that I screwed up on the arpeggiated section before the guitar solo. I have played it a million times the right way but the minute I make a video I screw up.. such is life. I am a hobbyist, not a professional. I avoid doing too many covers because of so much ridicule from viewers about how I played one note wrong or my timing was off or whatever. The fact is, I am not the artist who originally created the song. If I could do it as good as or better, I wouldn't be sitting here making Youtube videos. Thanks for watching guys!"

BURG - reverse adrenaline (ms-20, eurorack, monologue)

Published on Jan 12, 2019

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

#ms20 #eurorack #KORGmonologue

This track is really all about the monologue bass and the ms-20 5 step sequence, to help drive that groove throughout the tune. The bass goes pretty low in the beginning (with the filter turned down) so make sure you have proper headphones or speaker to hear / feel the bass from the monologue.

The modular has 5 sounds,

1.) Braids is the first sound you hear, heavily modulated + bandpass filter and sequenced by the QuBit octone with a 5 step sequence.

2.) Rings is doing, well rings style sounds with a random style sequence.

3.) In the morphagene i have recorded a piano loop, played in reverse with some serious modulated granular mayhem.

4.) BIA is doing percussion, with some nice ratcheting programmed in the eloquencer

5.) 3x doepfer VCOs are doing the chord stabs, controlled by the uO_C.

The planar 2 joystick is modulating MI Rings, uVCF and Ripples. Tetrapad is controlling the morphagene, Gene Size and Slide.

Gear Used:

- KORG ms-20 mini + SQ-1, FX, strymon el capistan
- KORG monologue, FX, presonus mixer plate reverb

The Ganesh - Probability-based Eurorack Sequencer

via @BelaPlatform,
via The Bela Blog:

"The Ganesh is a probability-based hardware sequencer created by Jon Pigrem. The sequencer uses Bela and the Multiplexer Capelet and is built for the Eurorack modular format providing varied and exciting rhythmic patterns. Over to Jon to tell us more:

Sequencing with chance
The Ganesh provides 3 channels of 16 step sequencing. Each potentiometer corresponds to a step and sets the probability of a trigger occurring on that specific step (0%-100%). The device has two gate outputs per channel for sequencing external sources, as well as two audio outputs for internal sample playback. As inputs the sequencer accepts Eurorack standard clock and reset signals."

Korg Mono/Poly Analog Synthesizer w/ Custom Colored Knob Caps & Walnut Panels

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Here's a Korg Mono/Poly of a different color.

First off, the entire wooden case has been replaced by a Synthwood custom enclosure. This includes solid walnut side panels and front, and a plywood undercarriage. The Synthwood enclosure is more beautiful, much sturdier and more durable, and even lighter than the original particle board case. (See synthwood.com/monopoly for more details. In fact, it was this Mono/Poly that Synthwood used to get the dimensions for producing these enclosures).

Secondly, i swapped out (identical but different colored) knobs from two Korg KMX-8 mixers in order to give this Mono/Poly a more color-coded interface (as opposed to the original palette of gray & cream). Red-orange knobs are now used for the Mod & Filter controls. Yellow knobs are now used for all the Levels, Intensity & Volume. Check out the photos.

It also comes with the following extras!
An original Owner's Manual, plus an additional spiral-bound copy of the Owner's Manual
A (Moog Voyager) gig bag into which it snugly fits, which has been irreverently rebranded (the rebranding looks less obvious in person). The gig bag is a $99 value."

"DigiLog Microne is a 3-voice polyphonic digital synthesizer with fat sound like Juno-106.
With a polyphonic sequencer that can input up to 128 steps, you can play a beautiful melody even by itself.
Furthermore, it has a gatetrig input , and it can do live performance wider by combining with a drum machine etc.
I played with TR-808, TB-303 this time."
