g-storm electro sh2-vcf & electro tonus vcf filter explorations

Published on Mar 15, 2020 impurfekt

http://gstormelectronica.blogspot.com/

"please support the channel: https://impurfekt.bandcamp.com

the g-storm electro sh2-vcf is a 24db/oct filter based on the roland sh-2 bass synthesizer from 1978. it's the epitome of the roland sound and ranges from sweet to dirty depending on how hard you hit it.

i owned g-storm's v1 version of this filter in the past and missed it. this is the v2 model and is sonically identical as far as i can tell. it's got all the features you'd expect and is a joy to use. it's very smooth with no resonance (great for subtle arps) and has a lot of character with resonance. not many filters in my bank can pull that off.

arps begin at 6:40

g-storm electro tonus vcf filter exploration

Published on Mar 15, 2020 impurfekt

"the g-storm electro tonus vcf is a 24db/oct filter based on the original arp 2600 4012 filter. the 4012 was arp's moog clone filter that was later revised due to patent infringement.

i've neither seen nor heard a 2600 in person, but the tonus vcf is certainly in the ballpark of demos i've heard and other filter clones i've used. its tone is warm, fat and vintage. the harder you drive the filter, the better it sounds. the front panel is roomy and well laid out. i look forward to further exploration; especially for bass duties.

arps begin at 4:28

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #82: Kawai K1r - Song 3

Published on Mar 15, 2020 Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the third song with the K1r. It's a 16 voice 8-part multitimbral synthesizer based on 256 PCM waveforms. One interesting feature is the ringmodulation (AM) between two oscillators.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
K1r - Sony DPS V-77 - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

Here are some patch notes
-------------------------
- I'm sending Janso by Felt Instruments to Microcell in Looping Delay mode, and I freeze a loop. I'm also modulating the position with the 1U Noise Tools module.
- I'm sending white noise into Freak in BP Vortex mode, and I'm sending the signal to VCV Rack. There I'm using a short envelope and a short delay for those weird bubbly sounds.
- The O Coast is sequenced by the Keystep, and it's going to the Mimeophon. I'm also not syncing the sequence and I change the BPM.
- I have another piano sample on Arbhar being granulated.
- I have some hats on the Morphagene, and I send it through reverb on the Disting and a HP filter on another Freak. I'm also modulating Morphagene with the 1U Noise Tools module.
- I have a sort of a pad on the MicroFreak, and I'm sending it through LedRover for some crunch and also ReduXer for some crush. It's then going to Magneto in Shift mode for those orchestral sounds.
- In VCV Rack, I have another sample on Simpliciter and its pitch is modulated randomly. It's also going through a glitch module from Unfiltered Audio."

-=§ ACID §=- Cyclone TT-303, TT-606 & Axoloti DSP (w/ setup overview) #TTNM

Published on Mar 15, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Jamming with my Acid music setup again. MORE INFO BELOW :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

As usual, my two Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TB-303 clones are MIDI synced to the TT-606 drum drone. I recently added two Axoloti DSPs to the setup then, which receive the individual instruments' audio streams for FX processing. There's overdrive, bit crushing, delay, reverb and more, to add some flavour to the 303 and 606. Attached to one Axoloti is a Korg nanoKontrol 2 USB-MIDI controller, which lets me adjust the individual effects as well as send MIDI commands to the Roland TR-606 clone, to mute the drum sounds and set shuffle amount.

Check out the Axoloti DSP here:
http://www.axoloti.com/

It's very easy to program, using a cross-platform virtual modular synth patcher software, like on the old Nord Modulars."

Korg NTS-1, Monologue, Squirrel Jam

Published on Mar 15, 2020 Waveformer

"This is the first jam on my brand new Korg NTS-1 synthesizer, sequenced by the Korg Monologue, which also does bass.

My music on Bandcamp: http://waveformer42.bandcamp.com/

The patch for the Monologue is included below.

The NTS-1 is a fun little box, with a decent synth engine and a solid effects section. It goes very well with the Korg Monologue. In this jam, I use the Variable Phase Modulation oscillator, the arpeggiator and the ping-pong delay and plate reverb effect. The arpeggiator is set to play octaves, type random, and I play around with the range parameter during the jam.

The Monologue patch is named "SquirlBassWF", and can be downloaded from the files section of the Korg Monologue facebook group.

The audio is recorded on a Korg KP2S and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on iPhoneX. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 15.

Gear:
- Korg NTS-1
- Korg Monologue
- Korg Mini Kaoss Pad 2S (for recording)

Connections:
- Monologue - NTS-1 - KP2S
- Midi from Monologue to NTS-1

Misc:
- NTS-1 effects: Delay: Ping-Pong with delay time approximately 3 16th notes, Reverb: Plate
- Tempo: 120 BPM
- Key: Em"
