"This is a beautiful sounding synthesizer--it's been called Korg's Jupiter-8 and this is not an overstatement. With the synthesizer section alone you can pull up anything from classic brass pads to the snappiest Kraftwerk zaps (the envelopes are SERIOUSLY fast--1 mS attack time). And then you add the brass and string sections, and throw on the amazing vintage flanger and you are in the instant Carpenter soundtrack zone."

"Hand-built MIDI & CV controlled, rack-mountable analog synthesizer from Scottish synth designer Ken MacBeth.
3 oscillators with multiple waveforms, mod & synch functions
additional MIDI-controlled LFO
noise generator (switchable: white/pink)
24 db Ladder-style low pass filter
two snappy envelopes
external audio input amp with multiple routing options
lots of control functions via digital menu
Absolutely simple, hands-on and easy to understand but full of big beefy analog sounds & smart routing for sophisticated modulation.
FM, osc to filter, synch, envelope to osc...
Great cosmetic & technical condition. No issues."

"Perhaps Oberheim's most undersung but amazing sounding monosynth. The OB-1 does not sound like a SEM, and it does not sound like one of their later polys--it has it's own distinct sound and power that rivals any other monosynth from that era. Take the girth of an Octave Cat A-Rev. and apply some Oberheim filter flavor and you are getting close to what this sounds like.

This OB-1 has both MIDI and the Tauntek CPU update that allows real-time editing of all parameters and an increased preset memory. It has also been fully serviced by Bell Tone Synthworks here in Philadelphia and is ready to rock for the foreseeable future."

Sequential Pro 3 Loop Improvisation w/Bank 4 Presets

Published on Apr 16, 2020 Joseph McGinty

"I just received the Sequential Pro 3 and I really love this synth. Another great synth from Dave Smith! It's pretty much my only synth during this lockdown time. I'm going to have a lot of fun exploring it.

Here's a short improv playing through bank 4 of the Sequential Pro3 factory presets. I hadn't played through all the presets, so there was an element of uncertainty (hence the random sequences near the end). Recording was straight into ProTools (no outboard effects) with looping by Enso from Audio Damage. Drum beat is from Funkbox on the iPad. Video effects by Signal Culture's Maelstrom virtual video synthesizer."

"Original vintage c 1980 Yamaha CS-30 analog monosynth monster in excellent functional and cosmetic condition. She’s just been fully serviced and calibrated, and is in top form. If you know, you know; the cs30 is straight up one of the deepest, nerdiest, fattest, and most feature dense synths of all time. Kinda makes a miniMoog look like a toy. This thing is huuuuge. 3 of everything, multiple filters, crazy flexible routing that is almost modular, and there is nothing she can’t do."

Korg Delta c 1970’s original vintage analog poly-synth string synthesizer SN 280105

"Original vintage c 1970’s korg delta analog string synthesizer in excellent working condition. The delta is a chilled out version of the heavier trident, with huge string pads ala arp solina ensemble, and a polysynth section that can be blended with the string section, or used via separate outputs, ala Moog opus 3. The delta also notably features a super cool joystick controller for pitch and modulation."

"Modal 001 Synthesizer.. In mint condition in and out. No issues, no bugs.. just a solid synth capable of the most richest sounds you can imagine.. It can surely do the typical analog type basses and leads with the utmost ease, But this synth is also perfect for creating the most inspiring and unique soundscapes / fx. Can be a moog, oberheim style synth but also very capable for PPG digital textures!"

"Tom Oberheim SEM with Patch Panel. Also included is a Kenton Midi to CV Converter so that you can use any synth, controller with Midi, or DAW to connect into the SEM. It is in full working condition, No issues, looks great as well. These are very hard to find used, Tom no longer makes these. They are every bit as awesome and authentic as a classic 70s SEM. These new versions are obviously more reliable and dialing in settings is more accurate than the originals."

Muscarin Synthesizer demo (playing only)

Published on Apr 16, 2020 Phaneronaut

Since recording this video I've released a whole album built around the Muscarin. You can get it for free at https://phaneronaut.bandcamp.com/albu... But beware, it's strange.

This is a kind of demo of the new(ish) Muscarin drone and noise synthesizer by kNoB technology. I tried to feature some of the functionality of the synth in the improvisation. But as I only got this a day ago, I haven't explored the machine even close to fully, in fact there are some parts of the architecture that I don't quite understand yet."

Muscarin Synth & Moog DFAM

Published on Apr 16, 2020 Phaneronaut

"Another (kind of) demo of the new(ish) Muscarin semi-modular drone and noise synthesizer by kNoB technology, this time pairing it with the Moog DFAM percussion synthesizer. The DFAM sequences and gates (via its trigger out) oscillator 1 of the the Muscarin. The DFAM also triggers Muscarin's envelope. There's a little bit of reverb added, no other effects."

Expressive E Osmose sound design work in progress

Playlist:

1. Osmose sound design work in progress #1
Shot beginning of March 2020 at the Expressive E office, this video is giving a sneak peek at the current state of 8 sounds that our in-house sound designers are programming using the EaganMatrix by Haken Audio, the synth engine that will be internal to Osmose.

These sounds range from different categories such as classic synth sounds, FM keys, cinematic pads, lo-fi experiments and crazy effects, all taking advantage of the new keybed interactions offered by Expressive E's Augmented Keyboard Action©.

Audio recorded at 44,1kHz, 24bit with a Native Instruments Komplete Audio Mk1 without further processing.

While development of the industrialized prototype is going according to plan, the unit shown is still the same prototype unit that appeared in earlier videos. Creating it involved 3d printing techniques as well as manual labour by our engineers, meaning that you can see some irregularities in the keybed. The final, industrialized model will certainly not show such tolerances and will feature a flawless, even keybed

Casio RZ-1 - The sixty classic factory patterns

Published on Apr 16, 2020 SynthMania

"I recently acquired a Casio RZ-1 that still had 57 out of 60 of the factory patterns (including the three conga sounds assigned to the sample pads) untouched in memory.

I looked at the RZ-1 Pattern Samples booklet and fixed the three patterns that the previous owner had rewritten, and so here is a little treat for you all - a dive back into 1986, all sixty original RZ-1 factory patterns are here in this video for you to hear - just like if you were buying this drum machine brand new in 1986.

The machine also came with the original cassette with many additional samples, so I'll do a video with those in the future. I will also create a .wav dump of the factory patterns and put it online, for anyone who has an RZ-1 and wants to check out the original factory patterns.

I also wrote the descriptions of each pattern that's written in the RZ-1 Pattern Samples book. It's a great way to learn how some classic rhythms are programmed."

confined spaces #2

Published on Apr 16, 2020 wildchurch

More interesting gear from wildchurch. This appears to be the first post to feature the Gluon. Note the record player running in reverse.

"More noises from the closet...

Sounds:
string drone machine
reversible/vari-speed turntable with English conversation instruction record played backwards at wrong speed
modified cassette player (variable speed) playing tape of drum loop
'Gluon' a ribbon controlled drone generator

Effects:
Aria spring reverb
Korg SDD-3300"

Update: some info on the Gluon:

"It's a one-off but something I'd like to revisit with improvements. It's a simple oscillator circuit using an LM324 opamp with a sparkfun soft pot as ribbon controller for the frequency. There's additionally a photo-resistor in series with the soft pot acted on by 2 LEDs - one flashing at variable rate, the other of adjustable brightness; both controlled by 555 timers. Between them, they alter the pitch in subtle or not so subtle ways, creating a vibrato/LFO effect. Honestly speaking, more care went into the housing and aesthetics than sonics - without any external FX, it's quite unpleasant and unmusical. The term Gluon comes from particle physics but I named the device such after the album of the same name by the Japanese group Hi-Posi, which is both very pleasant and musical."

The white piece is the Hogaku Conductor. It also came in brown. You can find a demo of one here. They are available eBay

"My studio in a closet in the living room

Sounds:
O2 Minipops (clock master)
drum trigger sequencer triggers Yamaha pmc1 sending MIDI to Akai S20 (drum samples)
sequenced Hogaku Conductor

Effects:
Aria spring reverb
Korg SDD-3300

Not too well balanced - too much Minipops in the mix
Listen with headphones for the low end/sub

Not much variation throughout the 17 + mins - so no need to listen to the whole thing...dip in and out if you feel like it."
