Atari Hotz Metal Jam - Hotz Sessions Episode 1 - Atari ST MIDI Music with Roland 2080 Synthesizer!

Published on May 17, 2020 Clint Thompson

"Greetings Everyone!

Thanks for stopping by to check out this video! Here is a quick melodic Metal Jam I had a lot of fun making while using the Atari Hotz setup with a Roland 2080. This setup utilizes the Translator software running on a custom Atari ST (MiST FPGA) rackmount unit that remaps the keys that allowed me to create this song with ease. You may be able to notice with how I'm playing this particular tune and what it would sound like if played on a regular synth/keyboard without the software in action.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the video and if you do, please share it with someone you may think would enjoy it as well! This is my first "real" song created using the combination of both Hotz hardware and software together as a complete system. I'll be creating many more Hotz related videos in the near future so please subscribe if you're interested in seeing more. There's a lot more fun to be had with this system!

Would love to hear your thoughts below.
Thanks for watching!

"Jupiter-6 Inspired Multimode Filter

The Roland Jupiter-6 is a 1980s analog polysynth with a great sounding multimode filter that is quite distinct from other Roland filters of the same era. Here it is recreated in a 2U Moog Unit module with an added 2-pole 12dB low pass mode, reminiscent of the Jupiter-8. As with most vintage Roland filters, it is based around a cascaded Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA), in this case using the LM13700 OTA in place of the obsolete Roland IR3109 quad OTA.

4 modes: 24 dB low pass, 12 dB low pass, band pass and high pass
2 audio inputs, logarithmic attenuated
2 frequency CV inputs, one unipolar input and one attenuverted input
1 resonance CV input, attenuated

"Studio Electronics MIDIMini in good working order. This is not the new reissue but an original from the early 1990s.

It's basically a Minimoog, in a 19-inch rack case, with MIDI and a lot of really useful extra features. These include a dedicated LFO, oscillator sync, a Sweep control and full MIDI control including velocity and aftertouch sensitivity. Sounds exactly like a Minimoog should, except more stable and a lot more versatile!

Still plays perfectly and sounds amazing."

It also has new custom wood case and repainting of some of the metal chassis. Includes rare, original foot pedal. It really looks incredible, maybe the nicest Chroma you will find. It's in near mint shape now with only minor signs of wear. It includes upgrades like midi and a fan so you will never have overheating issues. Noisering modding the Oscillator II for a little added grit. All through Mattson Mini Modular JP VCF and finally TC Electronic M300. Peeeeew!!! Kidding aside, listen to how low it goes with decent speakers. The CEM3340 was used in the Moog Memorymoog, Oberheim OB-Xa, Octave Voyetra Eight, Roland SH-101, MC-202, Jupiter-6, MKS-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 10 & T8, Pro-One, Prophet-600, Banana Poly Synth, Crumar Spirit, Synton Syrinx, and more. Prophet Rev2 Sound Demo | Channel 11 Night Raiders 🎧🎛

Published on May 17, 2020 Synth & Sundry

"100% Prophet Rev2 sounds in this atmospheric synth-laden overflight of downtown Chicago. All the Sequential presets used were heavily modified for maximum analog polyphonic synthesizer goodness. Some of the synth sounds were sequenced on Ableton Live and others were played in live as the track was recorded. How warm do you find the production?

The entire track was produced with the 16-voice version of the Sequential Prophet Rev 2. It was recorded and mixed in Ableton Live using an RME UCX interface.

Music and Video was composed, produced and edited by Alpicat for Synth & Sundry. All music and footage is original.

The footage was recorded during a night time overflight of Chicago using the Laminar Research X-Plane 11 flight simulator. The footage was then edited and finalised in DaVinci Resolve.

Here are some patch notes:
--------------------------------------------------
- I have a sequence programmed on the KSP, but each step has a very low probability of actual playing. This is sequencing the BIA.
- The BIA is going through the Mimeophon, and I'm modulating the Halo and Rate controls with S&H coming from VCV Rack.
- I'm also sending BIA into Arbhar, which is constantly recording the signal and processing it.
- I also have a recording of the BIA on the Morphagene, and I'm modulating the Gene size and the Slide with more S&H from VCV Rack.
- The Morphagene is going through Magneto for some sweet tape goodness.
- I'm also sending the BIA through the 2HP Freez, and I'm triggering the freeze function with a random trigger from the 1U Noise Tools module, and I also modulate the buffer size with it. This is going to the Microcell for extra granulation.
- I have a piano recorded into the Nebulae, and I'm playing it slower than usual.
- I also have another sample loaded into the Disting, and I'm modulating the speed with yet another S&H from VCV Rack."

Rings, Plaits, Sheep algorithms ported to TBD

Published on May 17, 2020 Creative Technologies

"Porting the amazing algorithms of Rings, Plaits and Sheep to TBD. This truly shows the power of open source. Big respect to Dr. Gillet!

CTAG TBD as in 'to be determined' is an open source eurorack audio module. All sounds and effects in this video are CTAG TBD, no extra processing!

It can be easily extended by your own DSP algorithms using a flexible c++ plugin architecture.

It's core feature is control of your plugin parameters through a web application UI and WiFi access. You basically log onto your TBD with a browser, choose your active plugin and modify its parameters. You can store patches per plugin. CTAG TBD recalls the last active plugins and patches upon reboot, so you continue making music where you left off.

All source (hw+sw) are available on https://github.com/ctag-fh-kiel/ctag-tbd

More introductory videos will be available on this channel soon, with specific focus on functionalities and how to add your own code.

If you are interested in beta hardware email contact@instrumentsofthings.com subject 'TBD REQUEST'."

Rarebeasts EmTronic Mini Synth

Published on May 16, 2020 Rarebeasts

"This is the EmTronic mini synth, it's a super simple Arduino powered noise maker that I have designed to be easy to build and only requires easy to buy parts. This little synth allows you to control frequency, modulation and the waveform of the sound.

The Arduino sketch uses the awesome the_synth library from DZLOnline.

The 3d printed front panel finishes off the mini synth but you don't need it to make the sounds. You could even build it on a breadboard if that works for you.

Best of all once you're done it's time to experiment with your own mods to the software to make new crazy sounds and mods to the front panel to really get the look you want.

At some point I will sell few finished EmTronics for those who don't want to make their own so check out my store some time at Rarebeasts.

You can find the EmTronic2020 in my Etsy store here: https://etsy.me/3cHPfg6 or build your own with my Instructable here: https://www.instructables.com/id/EM-T...

Happy noise making

Supplies:

Arduino Nano
10k pcb mount vertical pot(RV09)
Tactile push button switch
1/8" audio socket(PJ392)
2.2uF radial capacitor
About 40cn of Wire
3d printed front panel and support arm, you don't need this for it to work but it's fun
Mini-B USB cable"

Coronavirus Synth Dreams

So, anyone else having any coronavirus synth dreams? I had one last night where using pulse width modulation wasn't allowed during the lock down. I was showing someone how to program a synth and we accidentally used PWM. I remember thinking "why is this part of the lock down? we aren't going out in public or anything." We were then in a small classroom with a few other people trying out PWM. It didn't occur to me that even that limited gathering was a risk to exposure. Only the use of PWM was part of the ban, and apparently we we were being naughty. :)
