Hark! The Synthesizer Sings - A Christmas Card

video upload by Scott Ampleford

"Best wishes of the season to all of you at home! It's been another odd year, but we've made it through and can only go charging into the next one. See you there!

A little tune by Mendelssohn, arranged and performed by yours truly, on my MU/5U Modular Synthesizer. Featuring modules from, STG Soundlabs, Martin Jan Koehler & Moon Modular."

We Three Kings - A Make Noise Modular Synth Christmas

video upload by Autotross

"Quite a bit of spaghetti in this one! The 0-Coast and 0-CTRL take care of the melody, while the bassline is played using the Intellijel Planar2 joystick. The gate button on the Planar triggers a switch that replaces the arpeggiated bass with an envelope and CV tied to the melody, which is used during the chorus. And the actual bass sound comes from my 5U modular. The Morphagene and Mimeophon fill out the rest."

Doepfer - Slim Starter System

video upload by NOISEBUG

"The Doepfer Slim Starter System is a 2 voice modular system using the new slim line modules to keep the system small and compact. This system is very capable of creating a wide variety of sounds and patches that can range from a full-on drum machine or a simple subtractive synth that offers a 100% modular workflow. This system caters to all skill level users ranging from a beginner who wants to learn modular synthesis to the highly skilled player who is looking to add a modular system to their studio.

System includes the following modules
A-111-3 x 2
A-138n x 2
A-130-2 x 2

Housed in a Doepfer A-100LC1V case"

A love letter to the Moog DFAM (that also explains it)

video upload by mylarmelodies

"Here's a demo video explaining the Moog DFAM and why I think one of the most original, interesting analogue synths to come out in years. In it I'll explain how it works, jam a little, pairing it with a TR08, and Mother-32 at the end!

Strangely I shot this video several years ago (March 2018 according to the files) but never got round to editing it at the time. In the spirit of better late than never - here it is now. A lot has changed since then, but then a lot has not. It's still a very original take on subtractive synthesis, and it can teach us a lot about approaches we can take on a modular synth too (think - sequencers controlling VCA’s that control envelopes that are used to modulate parameters). And it's still fun as hell to jam on.

PS. Spot the error when I'm talking about the noisy VCF input (actually what's happening is the pitch sequencer CV is directly stepping the filter since whatever you put into the socket replaces the default routing).

PPS. There's some plugin reverb on this not pictured (Valhalla Vintage Verb and Eventide Blackhole, UAD Galaxy Tape Echo)"

Update: accidentally had a bad link above. It's fixed.

"Very powerful analog synthesizer, with four filter cartridges and the Selector, the rack module allowing all four cartridges to be ready for use instead of plugging them one at the time on the rear of the synth module. OS 2.0, the best working of all. Cosmetic condition is near mint. Functionally it's flawless, it works like a swiss watch."

Modular Christmas Carols [Steve's MS-22, Twin Waves MkII, Chainsaw, Quadigy, Ensemble Oscillator...]

video upload by Threetom Modular

* Voice 1 (Bass): A mix of a triangle wave and a square sub coming from Klavis Twin Waves MkII into Steve's MS-22. Low pass cutoff is modulated by the Klavis Quadigy envelope generator.

* Voice 2 (Lead): A supersaw coming from Klavis Twin Waves MkII going into Steve's MS-22. Low pass cutoff frequency is modulated by the TipTop Z8000 sequencer, asynchronously clocked by the Doepfer A-145-4 quad LFO.

* Voice 3 (Pad): Acidrain Chainsaw into a stereo pair of Steve's MS-22 filters. The Chainsaw's waveshape is slowly modulated by the Doepfer A-145-4 quad LFO.

* Voice 4 (Bells/counterpoint): 4MS Ensemble Oscillator, manually tweaked throughout the sequence.

All voices go through the ZlobVnicursal VCA, into the Befaco Hexmix and Hexpander combo. The Hexpander sends an effects mix into the Happy Nerding FXaid for reverb (which is then mixed back in through the Hexpanders effect return).

This performance was sequenced by Ableton Live and the Shuttle control (outside of the shot), based on the midi file 'A Christmas Carol Suite' by Richard Ian (you can find it here: )"

Christmas Lights 🎄 in Madrid

video upload by Oblivion Corner

Music and video by supporting member, Oblivion Corner.

"Took the Navibus to see the city's Christmas Lights in Madrid. Filmed the various holiday lights and Madrid city streets such as Gran Via and Cibeles. Celebrate the bright colors and city architecture on display. Wishing you all joyful Season's Greetings.
#christmaslights #madrid #fujixt4

This Fuji video test was shot from the top floor of the Navibus, using the Fuji XT4 camera paired with a Fujinon XF 23mm f2 lens. The video format settings for the original footage were Eterna film simulation, 4K 50p with a bitrate of 200 Mbps in Long GOP compression.

The video from the Fujifilm X-T4 was then edited and color graded in Final Cut Pro where certain clips were also additionally stabilized in software. This was in addition to IBIS on the Fuji camera which was set to active (but without boost or camera DIS).

Sequential Prophet Rev2 with variable stereo SEM filter Demo

video upload by the Veiled Creature

"Inspired by Tim Shoebridge, I built this little box featuring a Doepfer LFO and 2 SEM type filters, essentially building the filter that is in the Sequential OB-6 out of modules, then running stuff through it. The Prophet Rev2 seemed like a great choice to use with it. I Call this the 'slightly poorer man's Oberheim.' Check out my other video where I run my Peak through this same filter. Cool sounds ensue."

Novation Peak with Oberheim-Style stereo SEM filter

video upload by the Veiled Creature

"Inspired by Tim Shoebridge, I built this variable SEM filter to run my Peak through, along with some other synths in the future. I think it sounds great! Thanks to Patchwerks in Seattle for helping out with the modules and case!

Modules used are two Doepfer A-106-5 SEM filters and one Doepfer A-145-1 LFO."

Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Mother-32. 50 Combo Patches. Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Welcome to the soundset for a semi-modular system Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Mother-32. It is a collection of 50 patches that include basses, drums/percussion, leads, plucks, textures, FXs.
There is a wide range of sound colors inside the pack: massive and gentle, aggressive and soft, bright and dull, melodic and inharmonic tones, straight and polymetric patterns.
🔮 Get the soundset:

✅ high level of interconnection of the synths
✅ thoroughly set parameters
✅ detailed notes for patches full of tips and tricks
✅ audio examples in 3 versions: DFAM only, M-32 only, both together
✅ to recreate these patches you need up to 12 patch cords
✅ one of my hardest work ever, I spent up to 2 hours for each patch
✅ FREE BONUS: 150 samples with Scale and BPM (70-128 BPM), Wav 24/44100

The main point of the soundset is the high level of interconnection, not just syncing the two synths with independent timbres (individual presets for DFAM and Mother-32 are also available on my website). In this patchbook the timbres of the synths are soldered and can’t exist separately:
🔸 they modulate each other with LFO and Envelopes
🔸 a sequence from one synth change parameters on the other one
gates and triggers interaction breaks predictable patterns
🔸 audio signals from VCOs may be used as modulation sources to create harmonies/intervals or crazy experimental inharmonic tones
🔸 or they may be used just as audio sources that go to the other synth to be processed with its (different) filter and envelope and get the «second life».

At the same time, they play different and clear roles, it’s not a sound mess, but two synths working in close cooperation.

Yamaha CS40M SN 1305

via this auction

"Look at that condition! It's like when it left the assembly line in Japan 1979!

Only a few minor imperfections on those wooden ends, but other than that is unbelievable that this synth is 40+ years old. New backup batteries. Comes with really unique vintage items like original tag from the music store it was originally sold in(!), original vintage user and patch manual, original sound demo/patch data cassette and more! The modulation possibilities and the character of the filter, especially the Bandpass are all favorites of mine. Programmable and all the in and out possibilities, makes the CS40M a great machine in a modular system too. The CS40M is h e a v y . They way that the value of CS80, 60 and 50 has exploded, it's just a question of a short time before the CS40M will bring at least JP6 prices."

Metaphorium for Hive 2.1 – Sounds for Motion Picture

video upload by u-he

"Available now:
Over two years in the making and heavily featured in 'The Matrix Resurrection' score, METAPHORIUM for Hive 2.1 is now available. 220+ presets programmed by Howard Scarr, Viktor Weimer (TUC) and Urs Heckmann himself.
A staggering variety of rhythms, chugging basses, melodic loops, atonal and tonal pads, dreamy soundscapes, dramatic and ambient effects. However, meticulous XY pad programming in METAPHORIUM makes many of the presets defy categorization."

The Sound of 10CC - I`m Not In Love

video upload by RetroSound

"One of my favorite songs from the 70s.
Like usual it`s a cover and not original at all. It`s my interpretation of this song. Not a exact copy! When you will hear the original song than click on the original song.

I used the Roland M-VS1 Vintage Synth module and the E-MU Emax for the choir sounds.
For the Rhodes Mk1 sound and acoustic piano sound I used my Yamaha Reface CP incl. the internal effect section. Very important is the phaser effect. You can see the settings on the video picture. Played with the Oberheim Xk keyboard controller. The BD is the Linndrum triggered with a Simmons pad."

Door #22: O du fröhliche (O, how joyful) - Synthmas '21

video upload by Synthfluencer

"Ho-Ho-Ho! This is Synthmas '21, the virtual calendar presenting a Christmas carol played by synthesizers - every day from 1st to 24th of December.

The song:
The lyrics by German orphanage founder Johannes Daniel Falk are combined with an italian folk song creating one of the best known German Christmas carols. The text has a Christian background.

The gear:
Once more I choose the Casio CZ-5000 for this job. I found the organ patch in the depths of the internet. It was posted by a chap called Mike Cripps in a newsgroup (the elder among us may remember) and is dated 1989. Since I couldn't get the CZ-5000 receiving patch files via sysex, I programmed the patch by hand. The pipe organ sound becomes way more convincing by adding a suitable reverb (Zoom MS70 CDR, 'Church Hall')
