Sequential Trigon-6 Filter/Oscillator Drone Demo

video upload by Paul Schilling

"I enjoyed spending some quality time with this instrument. My intention in this vid is to focus on the sound character of the Trigon-6 oscillators and filter (both 4- and 2-pole), with different oscillator volume settings and filter cutoff/resonance settings.

After each change (osc volume or filter resonance), I adjust the track volume in order to keep the overall level somewhat consistent.

Since this is a sound design unit it doesn't have the production knobs, which are much nicer! :)"

Nick Carlisle ARPchives LIVE!

video upload by

"'Häxan - A Soundtrack', the first solo album from Nick Carlisle (Peepholes / Bamboo / Katy and Nick / Lean Logic) is released midnight 25.11.22. The album contains highlights of a 1hr 45min score Nick was commissioned to write for the 100th anniversary edition of Häxan (dir. Benjamin Christensen) by QFT Belfast, part of the UK-Wide BFI In Dreams Are Monsters season of horror films. Nick is set to perform the complete score at a live screening of Häxan at Queen’s Film Theatre, Belfast on the 24th November, tickets on sale from https://queensfilmtheatre.com.

Nick wrote, performed & produced the album mainly on an array of old analogue synths and a Mellotron. Sarah Rosamond (Ghostlore of Britain) guests on the album, playing harp and adding vocals to 'The Scourge'. 'Maria The Weaver' was co-written with Katy Cotterell ( of Nick’s project "Katy And Nick").

Nick: 'The film is an essay on the history of witchcraft and is set mostly in 15th Century Northern Europe so the music (very!) loosely reflects that. I bought a Sami drum and some bells, and I multitracked myself playing some out of tune flute. However the last chapter of the film is set in the contemporaneous 1920s where Christensen compares how women are treated, for better or worse, for ‘hysteria’ via psychoanalysis, when 500 years before they would have been accused of and tortured for being a witch. The last two tracks on the album, “The Sleepwalker” & "The Thieving Daughter” therefore are set apart as they belong to that more ‘present’ section of the film, and they’re piano based as opposed to vaguely medieval sounding. Anyway there is no real comfort from the present as even now 100 yrs after the 1920s we’re as knee deep in idiotic conspiracies as ever.'"

"Fully functional and in excellent condition for its age, this Roland JD800 has been serviced and is ready to go. The old problematic red glue keybed has been replaced with a more modern Keybed. Additionally I’m including a Brass Card with the purchase of this synth, in my opinion it is much cooler than the Strings Ensemble Card set."

SONICWARE Liven Lofi-12 - How to Make Lofi Music

video upload by ChrisLody

"So here it is, the new SONICWARE Liven Lofi-12 sampler, and it's pretty damn good.

The Lofi-12 allows 12khz and 24khz sampling frequencies with 128 sample slots. The samples are either 2 or 4 seconds long depending on the chosen frequency. Audio can be recorded directly into the internal memory via the Line In socket, after which sampled sounds are immediately playable across the keys chromatically. Sample playback is not interpolated (not smoothed out) so they have a gritty quality rather than being dulled by the low sampling rate.

A lot of features have been brought over from the Liven XFM including it's sequencer, voice modes, parameter locks etc, but this time the maximum polyphony is 10 rather than 6. Plus each track has it's own effects section that can be modulated by the parameter locks and the reverbs found in the Liven 8Bits Warps are here in a dedicated master reverb section with the addition of Tape and Vinyl effects.

There is a deep editing overlay like the XFM which enables samples to be trimmed, looped and reversed. It's possible to record in instruments and waveform and then loop sections to make the sound loop cleanly, a slight cross-fade is used to accomplish this.

The same Sound Locking function found on the XFM is present too so it's possible to modulate the sample selection in each track, so having a track play a kick and then a snare is entirely possible.

All in all it's a very well rounded little affordable sampler that can record directly into it's memories and can be used like a groove box. Pretty awesome I think.

The LIVEN Lofi-12 has a 16bit - 12kHz/24kHz sampling engine with the 12bit Sampler mode that will turn any sound into a pleasing lo-fi sound.

Like the many legendary samplers that were released in the late 80s, this is a genuine low-bit and low sampling frequency sound that cannot be obtained authentically with bit crusher effects and other modern sound degrading tools.

Up to 4 seconds mono sampling per sample slot (2 seconds mono sampling at the 24kHz mode). Start and end point trimming, pitch adjustment, reverse playback, sustain loop, filtering and LFO modulation are all possible."

"GX-80 is Cherry Audio's visionary new flagship synthesizer - over a year in the making - that combines the unparalleled sound and features of the fabled GX-1 "Dream Machine" and its renowned descendant the CS-80 to create a powerhouse hybrid.

Get GX-80 Now!

GX-80 is not just another CS-80 emulation. GX-80 adapts the legendary GX-1's massive dual-layers, additional waveforms, and unique filters, making it the equivalent of two CS-80s and then some! When enhanced with GX-80's discrete layer volume and panning controls, the result is a colossal dual-layer voicing architecture with 16 polyphonic voices per layer, capable of sounding two different CS-80 style sounds simultaneously in a split or stacked layer mode.

To provide the ultimate expressive performance, GX-80 includes a split keyboard mode and support for both polyphonic and monophonic aftertouch controllers. Further, Cherry Audio has added an innovative 'last-note priority' mode for simulated poly aftertouch response with a monophonic channel aftertouch controller.

With its dual-layer interface, over 1,000 stunning presets from expert sound designers, and integrated studio-quality effects, GX-80 is a singular effort worthy of the 'flagship' label.

The rarity and exorbitant cost of the GX-1 and the CS-80 have made it impossible for most musicians to experience these legendary instruments. That's why Cherry Audio is making its flagship GX-80 synthesizer available at the astoundingly low price of only $59! GX-80 is also available as part of Cherry Audio's comprehensive new Synth Stack 3 collection, which features all of its virtual instruments at an even more affordable price.

GX-80 is available now at https://cherryaudio.com/products/gx-80 and authorized resellers worldwide for Windows and macOS, with macOS 13 Ventura and native Apple M1 processor support, including Apple M1 Ultra. I tried to play through a wide range of sounds on this Arturia plugin. While you have all your expected categories from strings and pads to leads and bass. The Solina V2 has a unique sound quality that adds grit and abrasiveness in certain places while still being capable of smooth, creamy and dreamy synth sounds.

The iPad Composite DAW, or, How To Easily Create An Entire Recording Studio On Your iPad

video upload by boxoftextures

"'The iPad Composite DAW'
Built with AUM, Audiobus, and Audio Evolution

This one's a bit of a long one, and I've been meaning to do it for a while. Basically this is a how-to on how I'm using AUM to host my plug-ins, then using Audiobus to route the audio out of AUM into my DAW of choice, which in my case is Audio Evolution Mobile Studio. This essentially lets me turn my iPad into a completely self-contained studio environment. There's a number of steps to get it going, but nothing too difficult, and it all makes sense once you get used to the idea. And it just works! Using these three apps together takes care of sending the audio where it needs to go and configuring almost everything pretty much on its own. It's almost hard to believe how well it works.

The RMIF Opus (РМИФ Oпус) is a rare analogue string machine/synthesizer made in Riga, Latvia by the Riga Musical Instrument Factory (RMIF) in the year 1988.

The sound range is five octaves and the instrument consists of 4 sections: piano, that synthesizes piano like lead soundings of different timbres, analog string machine, that plays wonderful string sounds with soft attack and with the possibility to control release, tremolo and the pereodically repeated beat-fading sounds. A flexible bass section, that is controlled by 2 lower octaves, that contain three 8' and two 16' registers. The Opus is based on divide-down technology with a master oscillator and has very nice multimode filter (LPF, BPF and HPF with resonance), a fantastic chorus, ring modulator, vibrato and and a lot other features.

For the demo track I used only the RMIF OPUS and the KORG KR-55B drum machine.

Roland E-4 overloaded by synth and drum machine (no talk)

"Roland's cheap plastic E-4 "voice tweaker" hates line level audio in. It's "allowed" only with a particular flavor of TRRS known only to Initiates of the Fifth Circle. I was shunned by this elite even after offering multiple brands and configurations of TRRS cableware. Why did Roland make it so hard? Because it's a "voice tweaker" and they know best.
So stuff that. I went line-level into the mic input and even cranked up the mic input level as well. The little 'peak' light complained bitterly for some time, then often appeared to just give up and pretend the levels were fine. Was it now broken? I neither know nor care anymore. I don't expect this cheap plastic box to last very long anyway.
Most reviews and demos of the E-4 are launch day promo vids where people gush about their corporate gift. And of course it's easy to say nice things about free stuff. But when you swap your dollar-delineated labour for plastic music boxes, your scrutiny is perhaps a little sharper.
This is a lightweight toy which, although regarded as "cheap", is still way too expensive for what it is. Under no circumstances would I rely on it live but for mucking about, and especially for cutting loops in the studio, it's excellent.
Although some of the video here is chopped and messy it does perhaps give a sense of the reality that for every 30 seconds glitchy loopy joy there's usually another 10 or 15 minutes of unseen sonic garbage that has been edited away.
SIGNAL FLOW:
With the DB-01 it goes: DB-01 mono out to the Xotic SP Compressor, from there to the BOSS RV-6 - which is off - to get two mono channels. One channel goes straight to the DAW. The other goes into the passive DI box and then into the mic input on the E-4.
With the LXR-02 it goes: Left out to the DAW; right out to the SP Compressor, then into the DI box, then into the mic input.
There is absolutely no processing in the DAW aside from centering every channel and creating a simple, roughly 50/50, wet-dry mix. The E-4 has no mix control, just a tiny volume knob.
The white patch cable coming into the E-4 is the clock from the DB-01 / LXR-02. On many settings the clock seemed a bit laggy.
The oscilloscope shows the output of the E-4 only.

"Day two of the Apollo 11 mission. First half of the video the crew is asleep so there are only periodic mission control updates. The crew wake up in the second half and there is almost constant radio chatter as they run through various checks and activities.
Background audio is original generative ambience and uses absolutely no loops. The mood here is slightly eerie deep space emptiness which especially fits the first half as the crew is sleeping.

"Sounds are from a Make Noise XPO, a pair of Morphagenes, an Instruo Ts-L, and piano from Kontakt.

The strumming was played and recorded from Arkhis in Kontakt and loaded into the first Morphagene, with chords chosen by the Y-channel of the René sequencer. The arpeggio is from the XPO through a QPAS, sequenced with the X-channel. The C-channel is controlling the bass from the Instruo Ts-L. The piano is from The Maverick in Kontakt, played into the second Morphagene and processed as a 'broken echo' effect.

Recorded in one take with no overdubs."

"Much like a Juno 106, but less tamed and more wild. Thanks to its filter and VCO based architecture, this is one unique and true analog synthesizer. While still capable of warm and soft tones, the resonance on this filter is one of the most aggressive I’ve ever heard, and it doesn’t take too much push to get it to sound mean. Really one of the more fun and intuitive analog polysynths to program sounds on."

V-SCALE - How to Reset/Re-tune Trimmers to normal 1V/Oct accurate settings (for buffered multiple)

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"This video shows how to return your V-Scale's trimmers back to 'factory default' settings - basically, so that all adjustable outputs are back in their central, accurate 1V/Oct positions. If you've previously adjusted any of the outputs to compensate for another module not tracking accurately, or if you acquired the module from someone else and it's already been adjusted, then it's likely that at some point you'll want to use the module simply as a buffered multiple, for distributing accurate 1V/Oct CV signals to VCO's or other modules. The video shows 2 easy ways of doing this. For musical use it might not always be needed or desired to have VCO's close to perfectly tuned, but the more time spent on adjusting the closer it is possible to get, it really depends on preference. However, tracking across a range of octaves is generally not something that can be compromised too much, and the V-Scale is a purpose-made tool for combatting this problem.
There'll be a full user guide video showing what this module can do very soon, but in the meantime, check out the following video for an example:" [posted here]
