The Classic Oberheim OB-8 – Basic Programming Tutorial #shorts #analog

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"The Oberheim OB-8 is a subtractive analog synthesizer launched by Oberheim in early 1983 and discontinued in 1985. As the fourth product in the OB-series of polyphonic compact synthesizers, the OB-8 was the successor to the OB-Xa. The number of production was about 3,000 units."

New Behringer MS-1 MkII

via Behringer:

"Many of you asked for the MS-1.
Here it is, but as improved MKII. This revised version is based on the original 662 chips for a vastly improved VCF and VCA performance. And then we also added the dual glide function.
We’re very excited about the new MS-1 MKII as it’s as close as it gets to the original."

Edmund Egan - An Improvisation - March 1 2023 & An Update on EaganMatrix Modules

An Improvisation - March 1 2023.mov from Edmund Eagan on Vimeo.

An improvisation on my Eurorack system. Utilizing as sound sources the Haken Audio ContinuuMini and the EaganMatrix Module, as well as the mBiraski kalimba. The EaganMatrix module acts as both a sound source, controlled by both the ContinuuMini surface and the Akai keyboard (as an arpeggiator), and as a stereo audio sound processor.

And an update on EaganMatrix modules:

"After many trials and tribulations, orders and cancelled shipments, indefinite delays, etc., we have finally finally received a quantity shipment of Sharc DSP chips. The DSP shortage was THE most major production stumbling block for us. This chip delivery means there is light at the end of the tunnel, and we are actively completing a production run of EaganMatrix modules.

So in the next few months (we can’t say specifically when) we will have EaganMatrix modules in stock, and will be filling our back order commitments as fast as we possibly can. If you have ordered and have been waiting I would like to thank you for your kind patience. When in stock the EaganMatrix module will join the Continuum, ContinuuMini, and CVC as products currently available to purchase."

Sequential Trigon-6 Synth Showcase with Mike Pensini!

video upload by Mannys Music

"For our first time hosting a special guest in the video studio, local keys maestro @MikePensini dropped in to showcase the latest big and bold analogue synth from Sequential; the Trigon-6. A long-time Sequential enthusiast and career player, Mike totally blew us away, cruising through a variety of genres and styles, really pushing the Trigon to be all it can be.

The Trigon 6 is a 61-key, 3 oscillator, 6-voice polyphonic analog synth with a broad sonic palette, from the famed classic timbres of 70s and 80s through to modern cinematic bliss. A professional instrument in every sense, and a fitting testament to the late Dave Smith."

"Today at work, we took a break from our other restoration to help an old homie repair his messed up Roland TR-909 that a couple other techs couldn’t fix. Here’s a video of the test drive i took to make sure it was ok. You’ll hear a little crackle cause we made a one time exception for a good friend and only did the bare minimum to get it working again and safe for use again, rather than the meticulous refurbs we’re known for at tonetweakers.com. Singularity (DiN78) by Node

Node vintage modular, Paddington Station and Master rock studio 1994 video upload by David Bessell

"Full album available here https://din.org.uk/album/singularity-...
Retro video footage taken from a live performance on Paddington Station and recording sessions at Master Rock studios London in 1994. The footage from Master Rock was filmed by Mat Osman of Suede. The track 'Continental Drift' appears on the latest DiN release of material from the 1994/5 Node archive. Previously unreleased apart from the track Terminus it features the original line up of Node which included Gary Stout. alongside Dave Bessell, Ed Buller and Flood."

"Singularity is the legendary “lost” Node album. Recorded at the same time as their original sessions in 1994 this has DiN stalwart Dave Bessell join Ed Buller & Flood alongside original member Gary Stout. Presented here for the first time, mastered to modern standards but otherwise untouched and in its original form, recorded to two track with no overdubs. As a bonus the track “Terminus” is included with this release. A fascinating insight into one of the bands that helped spark the analogue revival back in the mid 90's. Mainly unreleased material sees them formulating their take on the classic Berlin school sound using their trademark mountain of vintage analogue modulars. Intriguingly this could almost be an early take on Berlin style techno in places too. An influential group of producers setting their controls for the heart of the sun.

This one is in excellent condition and working 100%. It has just been professionally serviced and with quite a bit of restoration. As the title says, this is a muSonics Minimoog which are rare and seldom come up. This model has several similarities to the RA Minimoog. Besides the metal face panel, clear pitch/mod wheels, squared back panel and walnut cabinet, the oscillator board (as well as the rest) is all discrete. Many will describe the next generation, CA3046 oscillator board as the first board (I think the mean the most common and earlier board to UA726. The serial numbers from Minimoogs around this time were written with ink and have often worn off. You can get a good enough range by looking at the oscillator & filter boards. The oscillator board shows #1219 and the filter board shows #1221. I have owned many RA & muSonic models and this would be accurate."

Introducing Behringer TORO

The best DB-01 feature you're probably not using

video upload by Richard DeHove

"It's the one trick grammy award winning dentists don't want you to know - yet nine out of 10 cats agree! Seriously though there are functions on some machines that you just never get to unless you go digging. I'm a big fan of the DB-01 arp, especially jamming over the top of existing sequences. And recently I made a huge discovery. Well, actually, a tiny and insignificant realization, but it was that in the DB-01 arp section "PIA" stands for "piano" and "STP" stands for "step". For two years I was guessing at that acronym. A cosmic ray must have nudged a defective neuron aside. Yeah, obvious to you but not me. It turns out that "step" is a fantastic auto-slicing jamming function.

In the comments a while back someone said they enjoyed my "crusty" take on things. That means "a little bit grumpy". I like that. I am a little bit grumpy - about a lot of things. One thing I don't like is demos with too many machines. What tends to happen is that one (or more) machines get latched onto some never-ending-16-step-loopy-thing. Or maybe more than one. I don't like that (but of course I've done it lots of times). I get irritated these days when just one machine is endlessly repeating a 16-step pattern. Did any of the great composers just mindlessly copy bar after bar after bar of the same sludge just to fill out supporting instruments? Of course not. (Although I do like Phillip Glass)

OTOH modern machines usually present you with a 16-step grid. So what can you do?
Which brings us back to STP "step" mode on the DB-01 arp. A single, boring, 16-step pattern can be sliced up on the fly and made into endless variations. Possibly the best use of this is recording it as audio and slicing it up in the DAW. Or perhaps live performance. Whatever you do it's a good way to make 16-steps a lot more interesting. The quick version of this is to take an empty pattern, go into the randomizer and "randomize all" (the button on the far right). Now you have an unplayable mess. But with the "step" arp (latched) you can probably pick out selected parts and make something coherent. In any case it's entertaining. What do you think?

L-Fusion Dual Analog Triangle VCO 18HP Eurorack module review

video upload by LFusion Electronics

Update: Reworked video demo - Music first, explanation second.

The module is now available on Reverb.

"Introduction to Dual Triangle Core Voltage Controlled Oscillator – Fully analog 18HP Eurorack module, contains two identical VCOs, each oscillator is based on super stable analog SSI2130 VCO IC served by 46 opamps doing precision analog math. In total there are 34 analog ICs and 449 other parts.

In analog VCO sound wave is generated by charging and discharging precision capacitor controlled by temperature compensated exponential converter, generated triangle wave then goes to wave shapers producing different wave forms. Such technology produces supreme audio quality.

Pitch is tuned to standard 1 volt per octave, oscillator provides excellent tracking across 10 octaves, it can be tuned with precision of +-1 cent or 0.01 semitone, this is very precise as human ear can detect detuning from around 3 to 5 cents.

Module can be ordered on E-Bay:"

via this auction

"Dual analog triangle core voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) 16HP Eurorack module with through zero FM modulation based on SSI2130 ICs that provide precision analog exponential converters, oscillator cores, waveshapers as well as high quality voltage controlled amplifiers for wave mixing. Each VCO in the module outputs sine, triangle, saw and square/pulse waves, also voltage controlled mix of them with sub oscillator an octave below controlled with integrated crossfader mixer.

Both oscillators can be modulated with exponential and linear FM, as well as through zero FM/PM and pulse width CV. To ease modulation for each oscillator we have added separate sine outputs with variable gain controlled with modulation knob.

Module also offers master crossfader to mix the outputs of the two oscillators, octave selector switch for each oscillator, as well as knobs for shape, pulse width, pitch and fine tuning. Module is designed using precision voltage reference and other high quality components to achieve +/-1ct (+/-0.01 semitone) tuning across 10 octaves- well below human ear pitch sensitivity which is around 3-5ct.

All inputs and outputs are ruggedized - able to handle rail to rail voltages +12V..-12V."

Testing Basic Preset Function Implementation Arduino 8x8 Drum Sequencer

video upload by Unrelated Activities

"Now using the Arduino Nano EEPROM (1024 bytes) to store some preset patterns. Each pattern size is 64 bytes, so there is room for 16 presets. The presets were written to eeprom before uploading this sketch, for now we just read and load them to the steps[][] array. 8x8 sequencer, very basic in its features. The interface is composed of two rotary encoders with switch, and a 128x64 I2C OLED display. The display presents an eight rows x eight columns grid, rows are steps, columns are tracks. Encoders are used to navigate through the grid coordinates, The X encoder switch selects Cursor or Write mode, in Cursor mode an'x' is shown on the grid and a 0 is written in the selected slot in a bi-dimensional array, in Write mode a filled square is drawn on the grid and a 1 is written in the selected slot in the array. The encoder Y switch has three modes: Edit, Tempo, and Play. In Edit mode the sequencer pattern can be created, in Tempo mode the Y encoder sets the sequencer BPM (Beats Per Minute), in Play it plays the pattern. The right side of the display shows the BPM and the current mode, the left side shows a rectangle indicating which step is being played. Each track fires a gate using eight Arduino pins (0 - 4.7V) and also sends MIDI notes through TX pin (channel 10, GM drum notes 35, 38, 42, 46, 45, 50, 64, 76). It works, but the display is too small for my eyes... Code is in a pinned comment."

Soundtrack music with Korg ARP Odyssey, piano, Dreadbox Typhon, and Nymphes

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A song comprised of two live performances with both hardware and software.

I have a hand surgery scheduled for this week, and wanted to get in one last piano performance before my hand was out of commission for a while. These are the results. The end result seems clearly inspired by some of my favourite OST music.

Native Instruments Noire (played on Kawai CA49) - piano
Korg ARP Odyssey - melody
Arturia Analog Lab and Dreadbox Nymphes - pad
Reason Thor and Dreadbox Typhon - bass
Red70 controlled by MIDI Fighter Twister - doubled right hand piano arpeggio

Recorded as two live performances into Reason Studios' Reason. Additional effects (mainly Arturia and Reason) added in the box, plus EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

Meng Qi Wingie 2 // Unattended Under the Rain 🌧️

"PLEASE - DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
[it is specifically recommended to keep the instrument away from moisture, let alone leaving it under the rain]

You'll probably have noticed that already: I really like the Wingie 2.
The microphone especially was a new spark for creativity and curiosity, the sheer joy of messing around with gear.
Combine that with my fascination for rainy days, and I couldn't waste the opportunity to try it under some watery plic ploc.
This was just a first attempt: I will try again, implementing midi, for a broader variation, but the "ambient-feeling" from the ambience sounds turned out to be lovely, and I've listened to this literally for hours, hidden behind the camera, peeping the world through my new resonator.
Hope you'll enjoy it! 🧡"

Happy 303 day: Ambient Dub Techno Jam with 7x 303s

video upload by Honeysmack

"Happy 3.03 day! What better way to celebrate than try something completely ridiculous and play 7x 303 at the same time? I was up for the challenge! While it might seem fairly easy, it actually did my head in for a while. I had to think about how to make this interesting, rather than have a stupid cacophony of acid bashing our ears. So I opted for the downtempo ambient dub like sound. In simple terms space the 303s out and give them room socially. Here it is and after the jam I provide some short commentary on my approach and how it was recorded. The jam was recorded in one single take, no additional sounds or post production. Please let me know what you think, am I crazy?
