Osmose Expressive E, Dirtywave M8, and Numa X GT, Live at the Lakely

video upload by John C.S. Keston

"This is the last in a series of live audiovisual collaborations with Chris LeBlanc and Shawna Lee. The performance was captured at at the Lakely in the Oxbow Hotel, Eau Claire, Wisconsin (https://www.theoxbowhotel.com/lakely/) on September 30, 2023.

Chris LeBlanc and Shawna Lee produced live visuals using their integrated, modular video synthesis systems as I performed. This piece titled, Dark at the End of the Tunnel, is an electro-acoustic piano composition. In this adaptation I used a a stage piano, but the processing and accompaniment are as they would be if the piece were performed on an acoustic instrument.

Please take a look at Chris’ (@blindprophet) and Shawna’s (@iamadot) Instagram feeds to see more of their work.

FKMG - KLIMA ATMOSPHERIC LOGIC MODULE

FKMG - Klima (Environmentally Aware Logic/Rhythm Generator) for Eurorack
video upload by NOISEBUG

via NOISEBUG

"KLIMA is the first of many upcoming experiments that welcomes in the surrounding atmosphere as a fundamental building block for your modular patches. Inspired by traditional logic modules and built around an atmospheric sensor, Klima is a 4HP module that derives random gates by comparing your analog signals to the ambient temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and relative altitude.

How it works: the module takes an incoming signal up to ±5V and passes it through a comparator whose threshold is set by the density potentiometer. This parameter sets the probability that you’ll get a logic high (+5V) at the first output . In addition to giving a relatively predictable output related to the original input, the comparator signal is then compared to four independent binary signals to produce corresponding gates when a logic-AND occurs – that is, when both signals are high at the same time. The frequencies of these signals are determined by the atmospheric values from the sensor and are reset when a high gate is detected at the reset input, giving you a bit more control over the random gates that Kilma produces.

What all this ultimately means, is that as the surrounding environmental conditions change, so does the frequency of each of these binary signals and, therefore, the probability of a high gate output. In other words, the same patch will take on different characteristics depending on where you find yourself.

Klima is great for producing organically flavored randomness and is especially fruitful when it comes to producing polyrhythms and textures. In addition to offering a useful function standard to modular systems, Klima encourages you to pack up a travel rig and hit the road."

FKMG - IDEIN OPTIC GATE GENERATOR

video upload by NOISEBUG

via NOISEBUG

"Following in the same spirit as its predecessor Klima, IDEIN invites yet another aspect of the environment into your patching process. It’s bulging eye not only looks back at you but behind you and around you, surveying you and the space you’re in. It knows if you’re patching in the light of day or in the dark of night, how and where your shadows fall and what’s radiating out from your many screens. The eye of IDEIN is sensitive to colors, those you can see and those you cannot. However, IDEIN is not a passive observer. It lets you know what it sees by spitting out gates and triggers that correspond to all the visual information it takes in.

How it works:

IDEIN is an entirely autonomous module that requires no user-input aside from light. With an All-Light Sensor monitoring levels of the RGB and IR spectrums, IDEIN detects changes in light-color and compares this information to the threshold set by the light sensitivity knobs. When a threshold is passed, a gate is opened, and a corresponding trigger is sent. Simply put, IDEIN is a series of comparators that produce quasi-random gates and triggers based on the color light spectrum of the surrounding environment. The big eye translates light to sonic form. Let your movement, the fluctuations in the color spectrum and the presence of infrared light dictate where you go next. Use it to trigger events based on visual information (e.g., video art projected behind you), dance in front of the eye and see how it responds, or simply let the hitherto unthought and seemingly passive movements of your patching become another active trigger source for musical (and not so musical) events.

Like its sibling Kilma, the atmospheric logic module that precedes it, the idea behind IDEIN is to chip away at the boundary between environment and music-making, as well as to lean into what makes modular synthesis so exciting: randomness, spontaneity and (often) the impossibility of reproducibility. The visual and atmospheric information in which IDEIN and Klima are rooted bring the abstractions of thought back down to earth. It senses where you are and reminds you of that location."

Circuit Rhythm with Sequential Take 5 - Trovarsi Connects

video upload by Novation

"We've partnered with our sibling brands, @SequentialLLC and @FocusriteTV, to give you the chance to refresh your studio set up. We’ve put together a powerful synth recording bundle, that includes a Circuit Rhythm and the Sequential Take 5 - that'll have you creating unique beats, striking leads and warm pads, in a hassle-free workflow.

Sign up here before Nov 7th for your chance to win! - https://www.sequential.com/win-a-synt...

In this video, @Trovarsi demonstrates how the Circuit Rhythm and the Take 5 can be used together to make a complete musical arrangement and performance. She's sending MIDI from the Circuit Rhythm to the Take 5 to sync their clocks. Trovarsi records a chord progression into the step sequencer, using ties and timed steps to lengthen the progression to 8 bars. The audio from the Take 5 is running into the Circuit Rhythm, allowing end of chain effects to be utilized for all the audio, as well freeing up her hands to perform and experiment with the filters, distortion, and delays on both machines.

Circuit Rhythm's stereo/mono inputs make it easy to sample sounds directly to the groovebox for quick sequencing and sample mangling fun. After sampling, you can quickly get into creative mode and make a sequence out of the samples as well as use some of the Grid Fxs for performance fun!

It's easy to create packs and download your samples from Circuit Rhythm too. Simply connect your Circuit Rhythm to the computer and go to Components. https://components.novationmusic.com/"

SEMSVF Noir Edition is my black panel version adaptation to the Oberheim SEM State Variable Filter. Same exact module as the Tribute edition white panel version. All hand made in limited quantities. Today I am just doing a creepy little darkwave jam in the spirit of the season. Two 101-VCOs feeding in, one of those VCOs getting a very slow vibrato from LFO. No mastering or additional effects. Recorded direct to Mackie mixer to Tascam DR-05.

Epic Prophet X Sample Bank Out Now

video upload by Espen Kraft

"A new patch bank for the Prophet X. Hundreds of samples from over 20 different classic vintage synths. Multi-samples, Velocity layered samples, one-shots and stretched (for authenticity).

The samples and patches I've created is originally meant for MY Prophet X, for my live needs. A way of having all my vintage synths in one keyboard when doing live gigs doing MY own songs as faithful as possible to my albums.
It means that all of these sounds are "ready to go" production pop synth sounds. If you're looking for experimental synth sounds or spiky industrial sounds etc, you won't find that here. I never set out to do that. Nor will I. Every sample in here has been recorded by me personally and sounds exactly how I want them to sound.
Many of the samples are velocity layered multi samples, some upwards of 30-50 samples per sound, while other sounds are just ONE sample, stretched over the entire keyboard. It all depends on how I want the sound to sound. 80s samplers always stretched the samples which gives it a characteristic sound and sometimes I want THAT sound to come through.

If you want to purchase this bank, please send me an email and I'll give you the download details.
The pack is about 1.5Gb in size.
My CONTACT email address is this: espenkraft69@gmail.com
Price is $35 USD. This price is a steal. PayPal only. * The above email is NOT the one to use for payment. That will be given upon ordering.

Included in the download is an instruction on how to install this bank, but I do assume you already know this if you have a Prophet X.
I will take no responsibility if you've accidentally deleted or erased any user samples on your own PX (that you had on from before) after installing my pack.
I will not engage in any "one to one" tutorial sessions on how to install the pack after purchase.
If you have a PX, you should know how to operate it. If not then this pack is not for you.

The installation, import and patch bank transfer has been tested out, and verified to work, by another PX user and owner.

If you want the pool of samples for another platform, I might be able to convert it for you. Send me an email and we'll see.

"Transport yourself back to the early 1980s, a time when innovation was paramount, and Oberheim was at the forefront. The visionary Oberheim Parallel Buss system emerged as a proprietary masterpiece that paved the way for seamless connectivity and synchronization in the pre-MIDI era. This groundbreaking system interlinked an array of Oberheim marvels, including the resplendent OB-8 eight-voice synthesizer, the rhythmic wizardry of the DMX drum machine, and the ingenious DSX Digital Polyphonic Sequencer.

The DSX, a true marvel of its time, also wove its magic with other Oberheim synthesizers, embracing the likes of the OB-Xa, OB-SX, and OB-X. It could either sway to the DMX's rhythmic beat or take the reins of control over the OB-synths themselves. But the DSX was not content with merely directing these musical maestros; it held the power to command an additional eight analog synthesizers through its 8 CV and Gate outputs, a feat unparalleled at the time.

For analog synth enthusiasts, the DSX was a revelation. It could faithfully capture your live performances, recording notes and patch changes in real-time, with an astonishing capacity to hold up to 6,000 notes. With room for ten distinct sequences or songs, each of these sequences could unleash ten polyphonic tracks, orchestrating a symphony of OB-synths and DMXs. The DSX even remembered the intricate details, such as splits and doubles. To refine your compositions, it offered quantizing, looping, editing, transposing, and the ability to merge sequences.

If you possess any of these cherished pre-MIDI Oberheim analog OB-synths, the DSX presents a timeless solution for direct, classic control without the need for MIDI retrofits or complex interfaces. Despite some cosmetic wear, this pre-owned gem is in impeccable working condition, meticulously serviced with a new internal battery, internal cleaning, and maintenance. To complete the experience, the DSX arrives with a sync cable for effortless integration with your Oberheim companions and a comprehensive manual. It's your chance to rediscover the magic of a bygone era, rekindling the analog spark that fueled musical revolutions."

Oberheim OB-SX w/ Magic Box MIDI & BCR2000 Controller

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Pics of the inside below.

"This is an Oberheim OB-SX 6 voice analog synthesizer. It has been upgraded with a New "Magic Box" MIDIcontrol device from MIDI Soft in Germany. The Magic Box includes 56 additional patches to the 56 already in the OB-SX. This includes a Behringer BRC2000 that has been programmed with the MIDIcontrol software included with the Magic Box. I had new custom Oak Wood end cheeks made that were wood stained to come closer to the OB-SX wood end cheeks. The BCR2000 also has a custom Over-Lay to represent all the parameters for the Magic Box. The connections to the OB-SX are simple, just attach the box to the interface connector in the rear center of the OB-SX and plug the box in. The MIDI connections are as follows, MIDI "In" from the box to MIDI "Out A" to the BCR2000 and MIDI "Out" from the box to MIDI "Thru/Out B" on the BCR2000. The BCR2000 is set up for Stand-Alone 3 or S-3 on the unit. You can change anything you want but this is how it is set up presently to use. Once the BCR2000 is hooked up, press the "Auto" button on the OB-SX to Tune all the Voices. Turn on the BCR2000 and plug in the Magic Box (there is no power switch on the box). I will include both USB power cable and AC power adapter with the Magic Box. I will also include the power cable for the BCR2000 and OB-SX. Once everything is on and tuned, select a Patch from the lower Left controller on the BCR2000 and press "Load", lower Right. This needs to be done each time a patch is selected on the BCR2000. You can also select banks and patches on the OB-SX by just pressing them, this will allow you to use the presets and Edit the patches in the OB-SX from the BCR2000. I will send the instructions I printed out, but you can also go to the MIDI Soft website. This is basically a trimmed down version of an OBXa with full control like the OBXa. The voice cards are almost identical, same CEM3340 VCO's, CEM3310 VCAs, but only one CEM3320 VCF 12dB 2 pole filter. The only difference is that the OBXa has 2 CEM3320 chips, one with the 12dB 2 pole Oberheim configuration and one with the 14dB 4 pole Moog style configuration. Other than that, they are basically the same voice cards and now you have the same controls as the OBXa with the programmed BCR2000 and Magic Box. Also, the OBXa has 120 presets. With the Magic Box, you now have a total of 112 presets on the OB-SX and an extra 56 User presets to make your own patches.

The unit itself has been well kept. All the keys, knobs, switches and buttons work. The unit tunes fine when the "Auto" button is pressed. All oscillators work as they should. All of the keys are very quiet and have nice action. The inside is immaculate. The outside case has some scratches and chips on the hood, the underside has longer scratches. Please review all the pictures before purchasing or making an offer. The unit is very deep, about 20", I had to customize my keyboard rack.

· This is a super rare, from the factory 56 patch (switchless), 6 voice late production version – voice cards are the 4 pin variety and are dated: “Nov 04 1981”

· Coming from the factory with 6 voice cards.

· Has had a full power supply rebuild within the last 3 years, modern capacitors & rectifiers with better specs than the OEM 1981 designs.

· Several other internal items were replaced along with the power supply, including: dip switch selector for the voice boards and *ALL* of the potentiometers on *ALL* the voice cards have been upgraded to the multi turn, “box” style as opposed to the original single turn “dial” type potentiometers. Huge difference in calibrating and holding precise values.

Most of the Oberheim classic sounds are factory presets in this fabulous instrument. It will ship with a power cord. The unit should warm up for about 15-30 minutes before use even though it tunes fine at first power up. The units will be double boxed for protection in shipping. The main unit is also very heavy."

"It was great to meet David from Bubblesound at Knobcon 2023. I've been a long time user of his modules and he's consistently made quality modules over the years. The upcoming Spring Reverb module looks at Spring Reverb options in existence and aims to make them better, a fully featured SEM style multimode filter is on the module so you can really shape what's going into the physical spring, changing it's behaviour and sound. There's on board feedback which David is leaning into in this video too for more experimental patching."

Patch Tuesday | Glistening Arps | Route 4, Delay 1, Generate 3

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"This week on Patch Tuesday: Glistening Arpeggios

Our main sound source is a Generate 3, receiving pitch from a MIDI-to-CV keyboard. Mix 3 is used as a VCA, being modulated by one Contour 1. The two other Contour 1s accentuate the sound by opening the VCA even more. Their inverted signal is sent to the control inputs of Route 4, producing arpeggios.

The extra flavour in this patch comes from Delay 1, clocked by filter 8, resulting in beautiful, lo-fi arps."

"The ISE-NIN is a synthesizer 'inspired by' the Roland Jupiter 8. Both sounds in this track are played at the same time using the dual layer mode. The first patch is sequenced by 'Stepic' by Devicemeister. I added effects from Valhalla DSP (Delay & Room).

This machine was kindly borrowed for making this video. No money changed hands and Black Corporation has no say over the content of this video."

Real World Interface by Verbos Electronics - Overview & Demo

video upload by Stazma

"Today I'll be showing you the new Real World Interface by Verbos Electronics.
This is sort of the first contact with the module, trying all the things I thought i could do and listening to different stuff processed throught it.
It's a very interesting and deep module, and there's so many ways to use it that I'll do a second video with a few more patch ideas soon.

Have fun!"

The Real World Interface is a 3 channel external processing module intended for connecting with sound sources outside the system. The channels are oriented as vertical channel strips. The left and right channels have a built-in condenser microphone, preamp, envelope follower with variable decay and gate extractor. In addition to a preamp, envelope follower and gate extractor, the center channel also has an Automatic Gain Control (fixed high ratio compressor), fundamental extractor (tracking lowpass filter), frequency detector and locked oscillator. Internal microphones are useful for introducing electro acoustic room sound into the modular. Envelope followers can be used to have external signal levels effect parameters such as filter cutoff or level for building dynamics processors. Gate extraction allows external sounds such as metronomes, clicks, claps or room sounds to advance sequencers, trigger sounds or initiate other events. The Frequency Detector can extract the pitch of simple monophonic sounds but is also a semi chaotic CV source in the tradition of such modules since their introduction in the 1960’s. The Locked Oscillator plays a sine wave at the same pitch as the input signal.

Multi Rhythmic Patches with Midicake ARP

video upload by midicake

"Using multiple arpeggios on different meters and sequence lengths can make for very interesting results.

In this video, I go through the parameter settings used to create a lazy but rhythmically complex patch. Its varying rhythms make the focal melody constantly shift between different arpeggios/instruments.

Let me know what you think in the comments."

New member of Oceanic, the FlangerBot in charge.

video upload by sonicLAB

"Flanging, by definition, is an undulating sound effect produced by mixing two identical signals together, with one signal delayed by a small and gradually changing period. This creates a sweeping comb filter effect, with peaks and troughs in the resultant frequency spectrum. The motion of trochoidal waves on the Oceanic, with their natural ebb and flow, perfectly mirrors this undulating characteristic. When applied to modulate flanger parameters, trochoidal waves not only enhance the flanging effect but also make it feel more organic and alive.

The FlangerBot presents 5 distinct oceanic flangers and by modulating the delay rate of each flanger, introducing undulating filtering effects, and triggering tap delay lines with wave heights, the FlangerBot offers a sound processing experience that is both intricate and expansive.

On the video, a simple Jupiter8 pad is being processed and then 2 Fundamental3 presets. No additional effect has been applied."
