Behringer Reveals New UB-X Keyboard Synthesizer

via Behringer

"UB-X is alive!

Today we've fired up the first complete prototype - what an amazing moment.

We’re now starting to implement the firmware and do thorough testing. Please bear in mind that we’re still far away from shipping the UB-X, but we’re making huge progress.

Isn't it a beautiful synth?"

The UB-X was first teased by Behringer back in April, 2022. The of course released the UB-XA. Curious if they will follow up with a UB-16 based on the OB-8.

Behringer Reveals RD-78 Drum Machine

via Behringer

"RD-78 is now up and running!

We are in the last stages of pre-production and are working closely with our beta testers to ensure the unit sounds spot on.

And for those who love the technical details, we have incorporated the exact same circuitry into the design, including the original coils and LC filters.

The team is filled with excitement about this legendary drum machine."

trkr_Trm - Upcoming Portable Hardware Groovebox Tracker

video upload by hinick

trkr_Trm is a new 64bit real-time tracker/groovebox that runs on the Linux.

The following are some details in via the creator, hi_nick aka hihihihinick.

"The device is implicitly designed for hosting Renoise, but as shown can be used for many other ARM64 based programs. Even the well loved headless M8 tracker. I wanted to make something that was just as fun and musically useful as some of the other retail offerings but following the tenants of open source hardware and software so anyone can roll their own. The demo is of the v1 t prototype, and there is still much to be done, but at present, I'm up to prototype v3. The focus presently is completion of the design for the main board which will serve as a carrier for Raspberry Pi compute modules, or offerings from other companies that use the compute module form factor. This carrier board ideally could be used for other purposes than the trkr_Trm, that require audio i/o, and modular connections to peripheral devices.

The goal is to have everything, including build guides, hardware, and software repositories live upon completion of a crowd funding campaign. Pre-built units for those who just want to 'get to cookin' will be available if all goes to plan during and post funding."

#NAMM 2024: Stylophone Theremin

video upload by CatSynth TV

#NAMM 2024: Korg PS3300 FS (Performance Demo, No Talking)

video upload by CatSynth TV

"Amanda of CatSynth plays the Korg PS3300 FS, a full-size and fully analog reissue of the legendary and elusive Korg PS3300 synthesizer. It is polyphonic (each key), and has three independent voices per key. Each voice has an oscillator, resonant filter, a unique resonator module, and LFO/envelope modulation sources. It's quite a beast with an overwhelming set of parameters - we really only scratch the surface in this brief demo."

#NAMM 2024: Gamechanger Audio Plasma Voice

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We get a demo of the Plasma Voice from Gamechanger Audio. This is an incarnation of their Plasma series of instruments and effects based on a xenon-gas tube. The Plasma Voice is a full synthesizer voice in a Eurorack format. T

'PLASMA Voice is a synthesizer module that produces sounds by controlling high-voltage electrical discharges between two electrodes on a specially designed xenon-filled gas tube. These discharges are converted to analog audio using a specialized rectifier circuit. The result is mesmerizing electric sounds that match the visual intensity of the blue bolt of electricity.

The electric discharges are driven by a proprietary ultrasound pulse-width oscillator. This oscillator is modulated by predefined samples and envelope shapes (or SOUNDS for simplicity’s sake) that you can select, trigger, waveshape, and modulate with sliders and CV inputs. This puts you in control of the electrical discharges and the resulting sounds.'"

Generative Ambient Riffs with the Novation Summit

video upload by Rhetors

"As part of #Jamuary, I’ve really enjoyed sharing these (mostly) raw jam sessions built from generative sequencing and automation. In this video, I applied a generative sequencer to a Novation Summit patch and did some minor tweaking along the way.

Feel free to turn this on while working, studying, gaming, etc.

Arrangement notes:
- [ ] D minor
- [ ] Novation Summit 'Heliocentric' patch
- [ ] Applied MSB’s 'Live Pong' generative sequencer: https://maxforlive.com/library/device...
- [ ] Applied Stepic to the Summit’s Filter Frequency and Live Pong’s eight note columns, which turn off and on. When the blocks collide, they change directions.
- [ ] Applied Valhalla Supermassive delay to audio signal. I love how this delay fills the air between notes. Reminds me of winter."

video upload by water nomad lifestyle

"I've been recently exploring real-time pitchshifting using the Octatrack instead of buying a harmoniser. Some slight delay is introduced, but the effect I think is lovely.

At the start you hear the dry Bass Station, then it fades to add in the live resampling channels. These are then brought in and out using the arranger. All sequenced in the Octatrack."

Korg M1 vs Roland D-70 vs Yamaha SY77 vs Kurzweil K1000: Synth Review

240127 - Jamuary2024 - Kawai K4 Multi Mode Demo

video upload by ChrisLody

"Time for a bit of cheeeeese! Is this new age music? Something like that.

This is something I've been meaning to try for a while, the multi-timbral mode on my fairly recent accusation, the Kawai K4.

I really wanted to make a Sonicware free jam because I've been using their a hell of a lot across the channel recently, but the SmplTrek just seemed like the perfect fit for sequencing the K4. It's multi mode can be set up with 8 different channels for instruments plus one for drums and the SmplTrek has 10 slots which can all be loaded with midi tracks for sequencing. The K4 has an effects section which allows different send amounts per instrument in multi mode so all the audio is coming from the K4 here, nothing is being produced or effected by the SmplTrek.

All I'm using on the K4 are presets but even they are nice, it has a very nice tone for a synth that came out in 1989!

I'm using an overlay on the SmplTrek kindly sent to me by https://cremacaffe.shop/"

MeloDICER With New MEX3 MIDI Expander Playing Both Eurorack Voices And Alesis NanoPiano

video upload by John L Rice

"The meloDICER’s analog output goes into a Synth Tech E102 Quad Temporal Shifter for my typical four voice Eurorack patch and the meloDICER is also sending out MIDI via the MEX3 MIDI expander to an Alesis NanoPiano. At the beginning you are hearing only the Eurorack voices and then I turn up the volume of the NanoPiano and by the end I’ve turned off the Eurorack voices and just the sound from the NanoPiano synth remains. #modularsynth #electronicmusic #eurorack"

meloDICER/MEX3 — Jam Session with Logic Pro

video upload by vermonagear

"We hooked up two MeloDICER/MEX3-collectives to control software instruments in Logic Pro.

The left meloDICER is playing a bass guitar software instrument with a repeating pattern. The right meloDICER hits the keys of an electric piano plugin. It runs freely without repeating patterns while we are changing some settings regarding REST probability for voices 2 and 3, rhythm and melody.

Logic Pro is the drummer.

We hope you enjoy our little jam session. Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions or hints and would be happy to receive a thumbs up from you.

NAMM 2024 - MuSonics - Vanilla

video upload by sonicstate

"At NAMM 2024, we hooked up with Suit and Tie Guy, who introduced us to the Vanilla Synthesizer, a departure from the Eurorack modular format toward a more East Coast leaning complete instrument. Suit And Tie Guy describing it as a walnut-cabinet beauty packed with 70s goodness in American format, says the Vanilla Synthesizer promises a unique blend of vintage aesthetics and cutting-edge functionality. Boasting solid gold artwork, it features two LFOs, two VCOs, one filter, two envelope generators, two VCAs, and a mixer. Suit and Tie Guy showcased the control distributor, a device that minimizes patching by efficiently distributing CV and gate inputs to various components of the synthesizer with cable-free operation, though patching is available in the style of iconic synths like the ARP 2600. While not a limited edition, it has limited availability due to its meticulous construction process, and that each one is built to order.

NAMM 2024 - Groove Synthesis - 3rd Wave Desktop

video upload by sonicstate

"At NAMM 2024, we met with Kurt from Groove Synthesis to explore the latest offering from the company, the Third Wave Desktop, featuring the new 1.7 operating system update. This update brings significant enhancements to the synth, including an improved virtual analog waveform oscillator and the incorporation of sequential Prophet VS wavetables. A major addition is MPE support and Kurt showed us the modulation routings for MPE parameters, allowing users to leverage Y-axis control and polyphonic aftertouch, bringing expressive capabilities to the forefront.

Kurt also demonstrated the more gnarly side of the 3rd Wave by disabling interpolation and navigating through individual parts of the wave for glitchy effects. The synth is not limited to virtual analog sounds; it offers FM modulation with 3-operator FM capabilities, providing users with a diverse sonic palette.

NAMM 2024 - Nord - Nord Grand 2

video upload by sonicstate

"At NAMM 2024, Sonic State had the opportunity to catch up with Matt at the Nord booth, where he presented the latest iteration of the Nord Grand, aptly named the Nord Grand 2. With four years since the release of the original Nord Grand, the Grand 2 boasts exciting updates that elevate the playing experience. The standout enhancement is the incorporation of a new generation of Kawai premium hammer action keybed, now featuring a triple sensor for heightened responsiveness. The layout of the Grand 2 is reminiscent of the Nord Stage 4, offering two independent layers with LED faders for both the piano and sample sections, allowing musicians to effortlessly layer up to four elements simultaneously. Matt delves into the details of the new dynamic compression in the piano section, designed to reduce the dynamic range without sacrificing the nuances of the piano sound. Additionally, he introduces the added unison feature to enhance EP sounds. The effects section sees significant improvements, now allowing independent effects for each layer, providing musicians with greater flexibility in sound shaping. Matt concludes the walkthrough with a demonstration of the choral reverb, a new addition that contributes to the evolving realism and feel of the Nord Grand 2.
