Introducing Taiga Keyboard Expandable Analog Synthesizer

video upload by Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

"Taiga is a complete, modern, modular instrument that allows us to explore beyond the boundaries of a traditional analog synthesizer. The sound of Taiga can be attributed to three uniquely Pittsburgh innovations. A trio of huge analog oscillators, the unmistakably smooth sound of the Pittsburgh Filter, and the warmth of our Dynamics Controller. These enable us to not only create sounds that we would traditionally expect from an analog monosynth, but to also explore new sonic textures and performance possibilities.

Unique To Taiga Keyboard

Taiga Keyboard’s larger format provides the room for a few unique features. Most obvious is a full size 37 key premium keybed with velocity and aftertouch. The dedicated pitch and modulation wheels offer instant access to a unique set of modulation tools including manual control, clock sync’d LFO, envelope, and random source. 1/4 inch left and right output jacks, and full sized MIDI in and MIDI out DIN jacks are available on the rear of the instrument. The larger format also allows Taiga Keyboard to utilize larger, more spread out knobs and a second analog LFO.

Taiga Keyboard also includes a first-of-its-kind, 24hp Eurorack format modular expansion bay. The fully modular signal path of Taiga means modules can be inserted into any point of the signal path. Install a 4th or 5th oscillator into the expansion bay and create truly monster sounds. Additional filters allow for an expanded sonic palette. Add a sampler, sequencer, complex digital effects, or even a Maths. The integrated Eurorack expansion bay allows Taiga Keyboard to be customized to meet the unique needs of any artist."

"This listing is for an EMS VCS3 The Putney Analog Modular Synthesizer w/ Original DK 1 Keyboard. Important to note about this synth, it does not have master tune knob like many synths made after. There are three parameters the user needs to juggle to property tune this synth. The first is the frequency knob of the oscillators, 2nd is "Input Channel 1" knob and finally, the "Frequency" knob on the DK1 keyboard. Even with everything dialed in nicely, sometimes the higher or lower notes on the keyboard will be slightly out of tune. Adding or removing patch pins will raise or lower the voltages for all three of these parameters and will throw the synth out of tune. This is a historic synthesizer without the "quality of life" upgrades of analog synthesizers made after."

"First contact with the V3. Definitely not as immediately compelling as my Erebus Reissue, but I haven’t even really patched anything yet.

This jam was mainly just to make sure it worked. Came used from Guitar Center which is always a little iffy (like when they sent an SP404 with the wrong power supply)"

"The Body Synths Metal Fetishist is a Percussion Synthesizer featuring a loopable randomness sequencer and a eurorack-compatible control-voltage interface.

Explore percussion by synthesizing simple Kicks, harsh Noise, fuzzy Drones, digital Glitches and plucky microtonal Melodies
The Metal Fetishist is a beat-making platform designed for rythm discovery and percussive sound design. The unapologetically digital sound engine includes a single oscillator, a white noise source, a resonant multi-mode filter and a digital distortion section featuring downsampling and overdrive.

Random sequencing with control
The Metal Fetishist features two randomness generators. At every trigger step of the sequence, the Random Step Mod section creates a new modulation value that can modify the Pitch, the amount of Noise or the filter Cut-Off value, while the modulation amount can be selected manually. At every sequence step, the Random Skips control decides if the current step will trigger or not, based on the skipping amount selected. The big STEPS knob won't do anything at its OFF position, leaving the synth in completely random mode! But as you turn it right it will lock the previously generated random step values into repeatable sequences of length 2, 4, 8, 10, 16 or 32. Have fun with it!"

Boolean Logic Latched - Patch 02

video upload by

Patch 01 here

"Using only a single clock input Boolean Logic Latched by Magnetic Freak is able to create a plethora of rhythmic patterns by combining divisions of that clock through logic gates. In this instance the patterns drive a kick, snare, 3 static pitch VCOs, and a bass boost. An entire arrangement of elements driven by complimentary patterns derived from a simple clock.

Clock: Buchla 246 Sequential Voltage Source
Kick: Bugbrand DRM2 Analogue Drum Voice
Snare: 1979 Dual Algorithmic Oscillator (DAO)
Synth Voices 1-3: Northern Light Modular 8-bit Synth Voice (h8B)
(with Buchla 291 VCF layered with Voice 1)
Bass: Bugbrand DRM2 amp modulation

Recorded as 2 tracks into Ableton Live. Compression, reverb, and panning added in post."

More Live Dub Techno and Good Vibes!

"This jam cam about from the 'Hardware Jams' Facebook Groups weekly challenge - which this week was simply to NOT use a Roland 303 in your jam. Hahaha

I used Roland TR8s for the drums, Polyend Tracker Mini for an atmos texture + chord stabs and a percussion loop, Arturia MiniFreak for the pad sound, the AKAI MPC Live V1 for the vocal samples and the Roland SPD-SX drum pad for the melodic lead.

LOVE THE DUB!

Korg MS-50 Textures: 8 variations on a generative patch #korgms50

video upload by Dr. Kunz

"Generative patch that uses the ring modulator as a voltage controlled amplifier and various modulation signals from the noise generator, modulation generator (LFO) and envelope generators. At a certain point in the preparation I had to use my self-made V-trigger/S-trigger converter (built inside a jack) because of an electric interference, maybe a lifted ground, that made the EG1&2 fire for nothing and negated some interesting patch combination between modules. I will have a closer look at the circuit and try to fix it in future, for the moment I will use the MS-50 as it is.

The video consists of four chapters with basically the same wiring but different settings, anyway the wiring list is presented at the beginning of each chapter.

At some point I think I kicked the tripod, as a result the MS-50 panel is partially out of focus.

Effects: EH4800 Small Stone (Nano) phase shifter, Korg SDD-3000 delay, dbx 166 peak compression.

Vintage Classics //ARP AXXE a budget synth with flagship sound

video upload by Starsky Carr

"The ARP AXXE is still almost in the affordable ARP camp! Why is it held in such high regard when it is such a simple synth? Having ARP 2600 and Odyssey DNA means it was a budget synth that had the tone of the pro models.

One VCO, a single filter and LFO with just a lonely ADSR envelope - but it doesn't give a sh!t... it's a raucous and massive sounding orange devil with enough CV connections to play very well with a modern euro rack set-up."

XAOC Sopot | Magic Duct Tape for your audio puzzles (w. MakeNoise RxMx, Plaits & Frames)

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I got Sopot a few weeks ago, but got focused on the Leibniz modules and forgot about it a bit. It almost never made it to a case because space is limited and I had to make choices. Yesterday I checked out the manual, tried some patches and a wealth of new ideas just popped up. This is a simple 6HP utility, costing around 90 euro, but it can solve a fortune of mixing challenges when a big fancy mixer is not an option.

In short, Sopot is a summing mixer with four stereo inputs (!) four mono inputs (!!) and mid/side outputs, or mono/stereo if you wish. The mono inputs are normalled to the center, but can be panned 50%/50% with a little center spread. This design is amazing. Highly recommended."

Meng Qi Wing Pinger & Chase Bliss Mood mk2 // Meditation through pings, an intimate process

video upload by Dexba

"Playing with the Wing Pinger by @MengQiMusic is a meditative practice. 🪷
While it looks simple (and beautiful) on the outside, the balance required to achieve something to be proud of is considerable.
That’s the reason why, even though I play frequently with this instrument, I rarely record with it, because it feels like being naked and vulnerable.
The right output (the lower note) is going back into the left input, in order to get a mono output that can go into the Mood mk2, since the pedal didn't handle well the double mono nature of the Wing Pinger.
I hope you'll enjoy the meditative nature of this video with me!"

Between | Roland JD-990 controlled by the JD-800 space ambient

video upload by MIDERA

"Today I figured I would test combining the JD-800 as an editor for the JD-990 and quickly decided: I hate it. You just can’t edit enough to make it worth it. Yes, you have access to all of the front panel controls, which is nice, but you really can’t do it very seamlessly. Imagine you are editing Tone 1 and want to switch to editing Tone 2, but you don’t want to hear Tone 1. Normally you can shut off Tone 1, but you can’t do that via the JD-800, you’d have to use the 990 to do it. And the only way to access card data on the JD-990 is by ensuring both the JD-800 and 990 have cards in them (obviously the JD-990 needs a card if you want to use it, but it’s frustrating that the 800 also needs a card for you to switch to the JD-990’s card). You can’t edit the FX or really anything embedded in a menu.

As Don Solaris and others on Gearspace suggest – they really are two separate synths. Using the JD-800 as an editor for the JD-990 is just not efficient or fun. The whole point of all the sliders is for ease of use and speed – things you begin to lose when using the JD-800 to edit the JD-990 because of all of the gotcha’s.

I don’t know if I want to keep the JD-800. The JD-990 is just so much better for what I want that I think I can live with the worse interface in exchange for the better sound. I’ll keep them for a while perhaps and see what I create that I like more with each. I think the conclusion will be that the JD-990 will be more useful and take up less space. Hard to give up such a great UI, but I have other synths. And actually, something nicer about the 990’s interface is that you can independently turn on and off Tone’s AND also turn on and off the ones you wish to edit. On the JD-800, you have to press a button to switch between ‘layer/active’, which is an extra annoying step.

Such a shame that there is no Roland JD-900. If Roland tried making it today, they’d use zencore and it wouldn’t be the same thing. Again, huge shame.

No FX added."
