PLUGIN ./. HARDWARE --- WALDORF MICROWAVE 1, Rev. A vs. MICROWAVE 1 Plugin - DRY AMBIENT SESSION
video upload by LESINDES
"All tracks were recorded as audio signals in Logic Pro over the same inputs and the exactly the same cables. They were normalized and equally levelled and off line bounced without any FX which results in a rather unusual sound. How else could you compare both sources?
You hear the hardware when the synth is shown and the plugin when the plugin is in appearing in this video.
Note that I used here only factory single sound patterns delivered with the Microwave plugin. They were all tranferred into the hardware unit right before recording them track per track.
The mixes were randomly cut in Final Cut Pro. They had to be crossfaded in order to avoid clicking.
To my ears the 2 takes sound very similar. Except for LFO speeds and attacks. The hardware seems to be slower in both cases. Even though the original MW1 manual warns users of setting the attack to 0 as it could result in clicking ;-)."

Trying the new synth models on the Modor DR-2 (no talk)
video upload by Richard DeHove
"Firmware OS013 added four new synth models: saw, square, sine and FM. Here I give them an initial test. First impressions are good. The resonance is pleasantly harsh, the filters have some bite and the sine and FM models are a little quirky. The various quick demo tracks below test out a few different techniques including randomized filter amounts, randomized step fills, synth models panned hard left and right, and parameter locks.
As yet there's no way to play the sounds chromatically with an external keyboard or sequencer. That means inputting notes by the grid and setting the pitch one at a time with the pitch knob. That's not unusual for a machine that isn't designed to be chromatically played, but now that it does have synth sounds that playability would make these models much more versatile. It's easy to imagine a situation where you'd play a pair of synth models from an attached keyboard with velocity, filter randomizations and panning - all while the other four voices continue doing their drum thing. In the meantime there's still lots to enjoy. For example in the video you'll see me transpose various tracks up and down from the root note. An interesting ability.
As always there's absolutely no external processing or effects. This is raw DR-2. And if you'd like to see anything else specific about the DR-2 please let me know.

AT 327 basic demo
video upload by brokenwave
"This is a simple demonstration of the AT-327 Multimode Filter from Triangulum Research.
The AT-327 is a multimode filter based on the Aries AR-327; a filter designed by Dennis Colin in 1975 for Aries Inc. in Massachusetts. Dennis Colin designed many important filters for ARP, Aries, and Oberheim, but the Aries filters are hard to come by. Their design is similar to that of the ARP 1047, but was simplified to reduce cost and make use of newer components that had come on the market as of 1975.
I have a particular fondness for the rich and sometimes gristly analog timbres produced by the Aries System 300 modules, and as challenge to myself, decided to adapt their designs to the very popular eurorack standard. This is the first character in the series."

"Memorymoogs in perfect working order aren't that easy to find nowadays - or cheap - but the LAMM is even more extreme. Rudi Linhard's uber-Memorymoog is a hugely enhanced instrument while still completely retaining the nature of the original instrument's immense power. Reportedly a current LAMM mod on your 100% working Memorymoog will currently cost getting on for 10 000 euros with shipping - and probably have a long wait time too. That's after you've paid for your Memorymoog! This one was serial number 1034, and is currently UK / Euro voltage. Fully checked and serviced where necessary in August 24. This machine has been stored for much of its life in an Anvil custom flightcase - see the next lot. If sent by courier we will use a custom carton instead (30GBP) - or palletise it inside the case if you win both."

"Nice sounding retro sampler / synth keyboard from the mid / late 80s - the one with the analogue filters. Paul Nagle wrote a funny but also accurate retro about it in 1997: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/korg-dss1 . Big and heavy, but good-sounding, with lots of extra treats in store for people who go looking for them. The weak link was usually the disk drive - but this has been solved on this example with an HxC drive, with the display helpfully in the wide open spaces above where the disk drive used to be. Packing 24GBP for a custom carton - to include a UK or Euro mains lead (with the pesky 2-pin rectangular shape). The DSS-1 has been stored in a very nice flightcase - see next lot - but we won't courier it in the case."

Yamaha DX7 add some Vintage Boss micro rack effects
video upload by Electric Vibes
"Yamaha DX7 is iconic for its crystal-clear FM synthesis, giving us those classic electric piano and bell sounds that defined the ’80s. But it’s not just about the DX7 itself—when you add reverb and digital delay, you unlock a whole new dimension of sonic beauty.
✨ Reverb gives the DX7’s sharp tones more warmth and space, making it perfect for creating ambient textures or lush ballads.
⏳ Digital delay? That adds rhythmic complexity and echoes, turning simple chords or melodies into mesmerizing soundscapes.
Whether you’re after retro vibes or exploring new sound territories, the DX7 paired with effects is a creative powerhouse!"
Atomika // Cold War Chic is A Blast From The Past
video upload by Starsky Carr
"Can the Cherry Audio Atomika get close to Comrade Polivoks. A comparison of the Atomika vs Polivoks. The Polivoks was one of the more unpredictable and 'lively' synths to hit the market in the 80s, and being from behind the Iron Curtain in the height of the Cold War gives it a cool dystopian charisma and mystique that can't be matched by those week willed Westerners and their predictable and controllable instruments of capitalism :).
It was built using electronics not intended for audio use and as such has a unique character and a whole dollop of charm...
... and yes I recently watched Threads so the intro demo does have a faint whiff of post apocalyptic 1980's depression.
oh and I know it should be pronounced Makina Bristronica.. I've no idea why I said Masheena, but fully expecting to be pulled up on it!"

Bristronica 24: GLOOP Looper From Cutlasses
video upload by sonicstate
"Showing on the Thonk booth we caught up with Scott, also known as Cutlasses, Scott, also known as Cutlasses, who introduced us to *Gloop*, a modular looper with a twist. Gloop offers a standard looping capability, allowing you to record up to ten minutes of audio with overdubbing options. What sets it apart are its four distinct playheads, which can mix various sections of the loop on different channels and adjust their speed and pitch in semitones. This provides the flexibility to play loops forward or backward and fine-tune sub-loops for improved musicality.
Initially created for Scott’s performances, the collaboration with Thonk led to integrating four configurable CV inputs plus a trigger input. These additions enable precise control over each playhead, including volume, speed, and loop position. Users can engage simple onboard effects such as delay, reverb, and bit crushing, and even experiment with real-time loop remixing. Gloop is anticipated to be available in November."
And a video from Cutlasses:
