sync thing in a gameboy (two gameboy sync)

YouTube via RustyNex — May 28, 2010 — "this is a gameboy i built for a customer, i was a be reluctant to build it as it uses my sync thing which isn't fully developed yet. but the results were better than i had expected. this video shows how the system can be synced with another gameboy and pass its effects onto that gameboy as well. this is running as master

the gameboy was very difficult to build, i was designing it as i built it because the sync thing wasn't finished yet and so i had to add bits as i built it to make it work and i was running out of room. in the end i had to loose the headphone jack and internal speaker"

Quicken Moon Concert - Performance of 月伸1 by Amar

YouTube via catsynth — April 11, 2010 — "Performance of 月伸1 by Amar at the Luggage Store Gallery on February 25, 2010. The video features his "wondercat" Luna. The live improvised performance uses the Octave CAT vintage analog synthesizer, Korg KAOS pad, Dave Smith Evolver., and Monome controller."

This one brought a smile to my face.
You can find more videos as well as additional details on CatSynth here.

On this particular piece: "Of course, the highlight of the set was the premier of 月伸1, featuring improvised electronic music set against a video of Luna. Musically, I focused on the Octave CAT (seemed appropriate) with the other electronic instruments in a supporting role.

The music was improvised live, with some prepared guidelines. In this way, it was reminiscent of the live music performances from old silent films. I kept the music relatively sparse and maintained the focus on the visual elements, which moved back and forth between clips of Luna and abstract visual elements (you can read more about the video production here [see link above]). The audience clearly responded to the video of Luna and the music, and their laughter at very points reminded just how funny a piece this was."

The Travel Bug By Ben Houston - Folktek Arts

via this auction
"This custom piece is part of a folktek series entitled "philanthropoid"". Known simply as the Bug series. Also in the series on the site and around the world is the Mantis, dronescape sequencer,the book of sound, the moth, the growling insect, the bug, the octa-hedra, walking stick, pendulum translator and others. The sound is phenomenol and continues to amaze us. It is a sonic symphony of nasty and grimy sweetness, endless layers of sound possibilities emenating from High quality OSC originally based on high tech speech synthesis. Seemingly random bits can be rediscovered time and time again and then there are those moments that you will most likely never rediscover. Endlessly captivating, this piece WILL provide sounds that you will not find in other synthesizers and will astonish you every time you turn it on.

This particular piece features a custom hardwood box with lid, four patchable knobs, and a twelve point magnetic patchbay. This allows you to determine function and provides tons of flexibility. In addition, two more knobs (global knob control and power kill) , glowing lamp power indicator , 2 folktek button/switches for activate and freeze mode sections, reset, 1/4" output, basic manual of function and layout. You'll be able to cipher through waveforms and textures with extreme sensitivity in thousands of ways. Waveforms (individual, or multiple layers) can be captured and maintained, often intermodulating in beautiful and/or disturbing ways. Super sensitive knobs let you filter through tons of sounds and glitchscapes. Albums are waiting to be created here as the sound is quite different from anything else you'll find..

Includes DC adaptor"

Patch Serendipity #2

YouTube via neandrewthal — May 27, 2010 — "Another self playing patch with randomly selected modules. This time an MFOS Dual VCA, MFOS VCO and a combo of a CGS master divider, 2 Tellun Lag Processors, and 2 MFOS Quantizers. Not very easy to work with since only the VCO makes noise and the other modules can't do anything without the VCO. Oh well, there's no turning back. I hope I get a better selection next time."

Reason 5 & Record 1.5 - Live Sampling

YouTube via PropellerheadSW — May 26, 2010 — "Remember the time when samples were something you sampled and not loaded from your hard drive? When a sampler was a machine that could record samples, not just play them back.

As samplers became software instead of machines, they came to rely on external sample editing software for recording and editing the samples and the art of spur-of-the-moment creative sampling was pretty much lost. Now we are bringing it back to Reason 5 with its live sampling input."

Plan B Model 28 Synchronization Upgrade

"The author of the firmware for the Plan B Model 28 Tap Clock, is offering an upgrade that enhances the ability of the unit to synchronize with external clock signals.

A web page listing two service points (US/UK) for acquiring this firmware, and plans for a DIY addition to the module for better phase synchronization , are explained.

This effort intends to be "pro bono" with no charges for the firmware itself and the service points charging only what it costs to perform the required modifications rang ing from; 1) Sending a replacement microcontroller; 2) adding a transistor circuit (for those loath to DIY); 3) For some units, crystal/micro remediation.

You can reference the upgrade at:

http://www.sdiy.org/philgallo/Tap/28.html

While not factory subsidized, the modification itself is factory authorized."

XILS 3LE EMS VCS3 Soft Synth

via this auction
"The XILS 3 is a virtual instrument based on the of the architecture of the EMS VCS3* matrix-based modular synthesizer.

Matrix connection brings modularity and sound design to a new dimension. More than 450 connections (audio signal, controls signal, trig signals) are available on the XILS 3, much more than any other type of modular synthesizer!

Easy to connect, easy to modify, easy to see, the matrix is far and away the easiest way to connect modules to each other.

But a connection matrix would be nothing without modules to connect! XILS 3 boasts alias free, warm sounding analog style oscillators, analog curve matching, 2 pole and self-oscillating 4 pole dynamic filters, fast envelopes, a noise generator, a spring reverb, and a ring modulator.

approach to sound design, the XILS 3’s matrix and the sequencer get their own presets, providing the user with flexible sound management options.

Although the XILS 3 is an instrument, you can also use it as a powerful and versatile effects processor. Two mono inputs can be modified, modulated, or used as modulator source or trig source, thanks to four input modules: gate, envelope follower, pitch tracker and transient tracker.

* Xil-Labs is in no way affiliated with EMS (Electronic Music Studios)
* Three alias-free oscillators with sine, ramp, square, triangle waveshapes.
* One 2/4 poles low pass filter
* One envelope, based on two different designs, trapezoid and ADSR
* One spring reverb
* One ring modulator
* One 128 steps sequencer
* two output static filters
* One joystick
* Three connection matrix
* One input gate
* One input envelope follower
* One pitch tracker
* One transient tracker
* Mono/Unison/Polyphonic playing mode, up to 18 voices of polyphony
* all parameters MIDI controllable
* Many presets made by famous sound designers (Kevin Lamb, Chris Pitman, Cliff Douse, to name but a few )

This is an audioMIDI.com Special Edition of Xils-Lab XILS 3; the full version upgrade adds the following extra features:

• filter enhancement with a self-oscillating 18db/oct three-pole filter (this is the type of filter
used in the original VCS 3 synthesizer that XILS 3 is based upon)
• driving sound possibilities with an analog modeled distortion adds to the output stage
• oscillator hard sync
• various enhancements of the sequencer features (a "playlist" of existing patterns)
• various enhancements of the preset management for better preset browsing and sorting

Warning : the XILS 3 is not a stand alone application, but a plug-in to be inserted into a music software application.

The XILS 3 is available in the following formats :
* Mac OSX 10.3.9 and later : VST, Audio Unit, RTAS (Protools 7.0 and later)
* Windows XP and Vista ; VST, RTAS (Protools 7.0 and later)

NOTE: Along with the XILS 3 virtual instrument, the installer will install an iLok extension. This is because XILS 3 makes use of a "soft" iLok license, but you do not need a physical iLok key to install and use XILS 3. This will not effect existing iLok devices or associated software. You will not need to do any additional registration procedures- as soon as your serial number is sent, simply enter it the first time XILS 3 is opened."
