YouTube via logger39187 | July 26, 2010

"'On location in Hamburg with Wolfgang Palm' is a little 'vintage style' documentary we did in April 2010, showing Wolfgang Palm, former owner of the PPG Synthesizer company, inventor of the world's first digital synthesizer and wavetable synthesis, in front of historic 'PPG locations' in Hamburg, talking about the old times... Directed & idea by CS.

This is part 1 of 3 with English voice overdubbing for international PPG fans. There is also a version with original audio in German language.

YouTube cut off the last sentence. It is: "I don't know, I can't remember..." - Watch it complete in Part 2!

English voice & translation by Darrin C. Huss, voice of Psyche."

Descriptions for parts 2 and 3 are essentially the same minus the part references.

Major Machinedrum news

via Elektron

"We have a lot of nice news for the Machinedrum. The new Machinedrum OS 1.62 adds the much asked for feature of letting you rename ROM samples. The Sample bank quick access mode and the possibility to write protect Snapshots and Sample banks are other convenient features this update brings. Because of the new OS functionality the Machinedrum manual and the C6 SysEx tool have been updated as well. Download the new OS, manual and C6 version in the Support and Downloads section.

Today we also introduce Machinedrum Sound Packs. They are great tool kits for almost any genre. No less than seven Sound Packs are now available, consisting of a total of 23 Snapshots linked to 23 dedicated Sample banks. Each Snapshot features 4 patterns demonstrating the content of the Sample bank. The 500 samples are studio recorded, 100% royalty free, and found nowhere else.

All Machinedrum SPS-1UW+ MKII units come with these seven Sound Packs pre-installed. When upgrading a UW MKII with a +Drive they are included as well. Current Machinedrum UW users can download the Sound Packs in the Support and Download section. Note though that they are specially made for UW MKII models as some of the Sample banks exceed the sample memory limit of the UW MKI. If you are curious about how the Sound Packs sound you can listen to them at the Machinedrum SPS-1UW+ MKII Sights and Sounds page."

analogue sequencer + VCO square

YouTube via analoginis | September 02, 2010

"Second run with square VCO, no GATE"

DIY sequencer project by Analogas. Schematics here.

via Mykolas on the SDIY list.

"There is some more work to do and I need help how to do it.

1. I'll change 40106 for BC547 in GATE OUT. No help needed :)

2. How to make 16 steps? Single switch 2x8/1x16 needed. There is
unused 4001 left, and I can manage to build logic with unused 4520Q3.
But how to link CV2 to 1 and GATE OUT2 to 1? Or maybe there is other
option?

3. Can 555 handle 12V? I'd like to run all from +12V.

4. Portamento seems to work even when it's OFF. At the moment caps are
22uF and seems to be too large (portamento is too long), but will
change to 2u2F, maybe even less. Will report after try.

Many thanks in advance.
Mykolas"

http://myvst.com/index.php/vst-instruments/synthesizers/862-jbm-jagular-free

"This synth is open source, and the source code is included in the same package. It comes with an easy waveform editor that lets you create entire new banks of waveforms while you test the sound of them. These new banks can be imported into 8 slots per oscilator, this means that you can have up to 16 different banks giving you more than 1000 waveforms to toy with. The synth is configured to have the same 8 banks in both oscilators. But it doesn't stop there.

The synth has also 9 different filters that processes the oscilators. The synth is relatively low on the cpu side, and it is configured to withstand most cpu spikes. When a voice (16 total) is not in use then it goes to sleep freeing up further more cpu."

JBM Jagular Features

* 2 oscilators
* 520 waveforms / oscilator
* Onboard filter with 9 models
* DCO, DCF, DCA, MOD1 and MOD2 EG's ADSR model.
* 3 oscilator modulations
* Individual keyboard follow for oscilators
* 80 patches.
