FREAKENSPEAK

via this auction

"I have been making and selling strange electronic instruments and circuit bent creations for 29 years. I have been selling on ebay for 10 years. I only use high quality new switches and wire and other electronic components in my circuit bent units. So if you are looking for a quality circuit bent instrument that looks great and sounds even better, look no further, you have found it.

Here is a list of the circuit bent features:

- 2 Super bright blue LED's on the sides of the unit, great for live performance.

- 2 bend/glitch switches that bend and twist the words in different ways depending on what mode you are in and how many of the switches you have on. You can get endless bent sounds and words with these 2 switches. When you turn on a bend switch and you are in the right mode, you can get the unit to ramble on endlessly.

- 1 tone switch that puts out a steady tone that you can change to a lower or higher tone by pressing the keypad. There are 3 or more different tones that you can get using this switch. You can use any of the pitch controls to "play" the pitch of the tone.

- 2 loop switches that will "catch" or "Freeze" a bent or normal sound and repeat it so you can play the pitch of the loop with any of the pitch controls. To advance to the next loop, just flip the loop switch off/on. No need for an extra "Loop advance" button. You can use both the loop switches at the same time to create cool combination loops!

- 1 Pitch change photo sensor that you can wave your hand over without touching it to change the pitch of the sound or loop, just like playing a theremin. This is one of the best feature of the FREAKENSPEAK. You can also use a lazer pointer or flashlight on the photo sensor for a cool effect. This is a great feature for live performance.

- 1 high/low pitch range switch, you can go from the highest pitch to the lowest pitch with the flip of a switch and control the pitch by using the pitch range pot.

- 1 pitch change ball for body contact, the pitch of the sound goes down depending on how much of your hand is touching it. The large pitch ball gives way more control of the sound than 2 little contacts. You can also touch the holographic front label to lower the pitch even more.

- 1 pitch range pot with ball knob to vary the pitch of the sound up or down. The ball knob is easy to grip and turn and adds to the cool look of the FREAKENSPEAK.

- 1 pitch change front panel lowers the pitch more when touching the pitch change ball. One of the coolest features is the added pitch control that touching the holographic front label gives, you won't find this feature on any other bent unit, or as many ways to control the pitch.

- 1 Audio output 1/8" plug to send the signal to an amp or effects or to your computer line input.

- 1 Power adaptor input plug. Power adaptor or batteries not included (6 volt , 200 mA, center pin positive)but it will work with 4 "C" cell batteries too.

- 1 reset button if the unit crashes.

- 2 Cool holographic eyes that give the FREAKENSPEAK it's unique look. You can still see the display clearly thru the holographic eyes.

- 1 FREAKENSPEAK users manual describing how to use the circuit bent controls.

This unit will work as normal with all bend switches off .This unit is designed for live performance, but it also works great for recording sounds in the studio. It can make some amazing sounds and loops! It makes sounds that you can't get from any other instrument! It can sound like a theremin or a spaceman on speed! Great for techno, sound FX, electronic music."

Merry Christmas, Mr. Eigenharp!

YouTube via gbevin | December 25, 2010 | 7 likes, 0 dislikes

"Merry Christmas everyone!

I recorded this after fine-tuning a little improvisation in the spirit of this snow-filled holiday season.

This is the last video that I'll make where the recording is done by the same computer as the one I'm playing with. It seems to introduce too much additional overhead, causing crackling at CPU-intensive parts.

Hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

For those interested, the technical stuff:

* my wonderful ebony Eigenharp Alpha with wooden keys and golden trim
* four instances of Native Instruments Reaktor 5.5 inside Bidule, each on a dedicated MIDI channel
* they're all running the Native Instrument Prism synth and the Singing Stone patch
* recorded directly with Quicktime and the built-in iSight, with the audio coming from Soundflower which has been set as the audio device of EigenD, no post processing
* I'm monitoring through the Eigenharp Alpha's built-in headphone output using my Etymotic Research ER-4P in-ears
* EigenD is set up to cycle through the four MIDI channels, allowing independent vibrato and pitch-bend
* I set up some subtle MIDI CC mappings for key yaw and key pressure, bound to a filter in Reaktor and to the synth volume"

OSK - Offener Schaltkreis (Open Circuit), Responsive Sound Environment 2007

YouTube via MediaArtTube | December 26, 2010 |

"A silent labyrinth created out of open copper trails on the floor carries the electrical signals of a multichannel sound repository. By putting wireless speaker- cylinders on them, the carried sound layers can become audible and the interpretation by the visitors gets possible. The "Offener Schaltkreis" reacts depending on the manner in which the speakers are used: If nothing is moved, the sounds stay calm and soft, but as soon as a single cylinder is placed elsewhere, the sounds of all speakers intensify simultaneously. This results in a dynamic relation between silence and noise, which is influenced by the visitors.

Xmas Present Jam - Monotron vs. UCreate Music

YouTube via ChrisLody | December 26, 2010 |

"My wife Esme was especially nice to me this year and bought me plenty of music making toys including the Monotron and the UCreate Music in this video.

There is plenty of info around on the Monotron but i'd never even heard of the UCreate Music before. Its a pretty cool toy, amazingly you can feed external audio though its effects section. I'm using its Echo (Delay) on the Monoton in this video. You can also sequence a number of loops using the buttons on its front panel. It updateable and editable by connecting it to your computer via USB, but frustratingly you can only use the loops it wants you to rather than your own and uploading loops to it has to be done online as it grabs the audio loops from a specific web page. It looks like the effects can be altered aswell but there are no extra ones available yet. Someone NEEDS to hack this thing!

Anyway the wonkiness of the track represents the way i feel in the post over consumption phase of the xmas holidays. Probably."

DOEPFER DARK TIME - ANALOG SEQUENCER - HQ DEMO with ARP Odyssey, Minimoog, Korg MS-20, Korg Monopoly

YouTube via AnalogAudio1 | December 25, 2010 |

"The brandnew DARK TIME is a fantastic analog sequencer. It has MIDI, CV / Gate and also TRIGGER IN / OUT for vintage sequencers or rhythm machines.

In my opinion, it is much more comfortable like the Korg SQ-10, which I had. The steps run not just forwards - they also can run backwards or in random. Also a great feature is the quantizer - like on the ARP sequencer. In MIDI mode, the two rows can send at two different MIDI channels.

The DOEPFER DARK TIME was originally designed to be used with the DOEPFER DARK ENERGY synth, but you can use it with every synthesizer which has MIDI or CV/GATE. Sometimes (it depends on your synth) you will need a converter or a additional interface (for example: ARP needs +12 volts to trigger the envelopes instead of +5V; Also the Minimoog needs a switch trigger).

I always wanted a sequencer like this!

I played the Doepfer DARK TIME with ARP ODYSSEY, MINIMOOG, KORG MS-20, KORG MONO/POLY and YAMAHA TQ-5. There is also a sequence, where the Dark Time is synced with a Roland CR-78 (through trigger signals, not MIDI) and controls an ARP Odyssey at the same time."

Explaining Maths

YouTube via ccdm9 | November 14, 2010 |

"This is a video for all those people in eurorack land that can't seem to figure out their Make Noise MATHS. Just made this in my spare time after being very confused when I first got this module at the beginning of this year. Hope it's helpful!

Some notes from Navs, a fellow Wiggler
"The CV inputs for channels 1 & 4 (rise/fall vs. both) respond differently. A positive voltage to 'rise' & 'fall' extends those times (and vice versa). A positive voltage to 'both' shortens the times (and vice versa). This means when using Maths as a VCO, you can patch your keyboard voltage etc. to the both CV input and get 'higher' (or faster) oscillations, as you would with a normal VCO.

When triggered or when cycling, channels 1 & 4 are AD envelopes. Feed a gate signal from a keyboard or Pressure Points to the 'input' jack (the one marked with the arrow) and you get an AR envelope. This is essentially a slewed gate signal. The difference to the AD being, you can 'hold' the envelope high, similar to the sustain portion of an ADSR. This is also great with the 'Press CV' from PP to give you a nice fade in/ out.

The OR output traces the maximum positive voltage of the combined inputs. It is positive-only in Maths as it makes more sense when used with envelopes, but this is not always how it is implemented. Have a look at the Doepfer A-172 manual for more info: http://doepfer.de/A172.htm

Lastly, the difference between the EOR and EOC outs is key to certain effects and really useful. Basically, you could think of the EOR as enabling quadrature-type functions (offset) and the EOC as a chain function (sequential).

I think these two outputs are incredibly useful! They make some of the more exotic Maths patches possible (gate delay, swing, variable step length, flipflop, comparator, digital inverter etc.) and they are perfect for pinging a filter!"

Happy holidays from Madrona Labs!

"It's damp and chilly, and I hear the gray pitter patter of endless rain. Looking out my window I see gray sky, gray water, gray trees and gray clouds. That's right, it's Christmas in Seattle.

Because of your support of Aalto these past few months, I can now work full time to bring you more software and hardware to make music with. And that is something I am very thankful for. I am very excited about what we will have to offer this coming year: Aalto for Windows, the Soundplane A, and more software instruments that are even farther off the beaten path.

As a small way to say thanks, today I'm releasing Aaltoverb for Mac OS X. Aaltoverb is just the reverb section from Aalto, packaged up as its own plugin and with mix and brightness knobs added. It won't replace your ValhallaShimmer, but it is easy on the CPU and on the eyes, and I hope it makes a nice addition to your box of colors."
