Join me on this fantastic journey into Dave Smith Instruments' headquarters, alongside DSI's own Carson Day. Carson was kind enough to provide an amazing synthesizer studio and DSI office tour, and gives in-depth commentary on the history of Sequential Circuits, Dave Smith Instruments and their synths throughout.
Huge thanks to DSI for allowing me to visit the office on a recent trip to San Francisco. Cheers guys!

Sequential Prophet VS - Rüdiger Gaenslen favourite custom patches
Published on Jul 21, 2017 Rüdiger Gaenslen
"Sequential Prophet VS Digital Vector Synthesizer from 1986.
Recorded pure without any mastering, FX, EQ and anything else.
It is a hybrid synthesizer with 128 digital waveshapes (also basic waves for analog stuff) and analog curtis filter. It has 4 oscillators, you can mix with a vector stick and controll the mix with a envelope. You can save this mix as a new wave in ROM and create really fantastic and never heard sounds.
Further Infos to the Prophet VS and review:
http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/sequential-s-prophet-vs/1617
The Prophet VS in this video has some mods from Syntthaste, Martin Höwner, in Bochum, Germnay. It has a new Fatar keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, a new PSU and new buttons, also an OLED Display.
Most of the sounds in this Demo are no factory sounds. They are my favourite custom sounds.
The VS is quite easy to program and you also can use hardware controller like stereoping or software controller like vector surgeon.
Actually it is my favourite synth, I even prefer him over my Prophet 5, Jupiter 8 and OBXa, because you can create extremely powerful analog sounding classic patches and very cold sounding mallets, bells, whistles and choirs. It is the best hybrid synthesizer ever IMO.
I hope, you enjoy the sounds and the video. I didnt use any effects, mastering, eq, its just pure VS in stereo directly into the audio interface. Cheers, Ruediger

Audio Damage Replicant 2 Now Available

"One of the original buffer effects, and still one of the best. Version 2 adds the Stutter effect, for further divisions of the loop. It's like glitch-ception! From a simple delay or panning effect, on up to massive random beat mangling, Replicant is a capable plugin well in line with today's electronic music styles. Stuttering buffers and filter drops are easy to program, and the comprehensive randomization features give it a mind of its own, if so desired. "This is the Multivox MX-75 Dual Voice Synthesizer, also known as the Hillwood Pulser M75 Dual Voice Synthesizer.
Unlike other Multivox/Hillwood synths you never seem to see the rare MX-75 for sale.
The Hillwood Pulser was developed and built by Hillwood (aka Firstman) in Japan. These synths were then rebadged as Multivox and sold in America. This is a very early example: the Multivox name was on stickers placed over the Pulser name on the front and back; later examples had Multivox painted directly onto the case. On this one someone peeled the Multivox sticker off the back revealing the original Pulser name (the Multivox sticker on the front remains). More evidence of this being a very early model is that the information on the model/serial # plate on the back is hand-written.
This synth has some scratches on the case but other than that is all-original and in 100% working condition. It sounds amazing."

Frozen Dairy Dessert (Milkshake) | Octatrack & Modular Synth
Published on Jul 21, 2017 Dusty Patches
"Composed on Eurorack modular synth and sampled into the Octatrack. I began by creating chord progressions with Ornament & Crime Acid Curds, Pressure Points, and four voices from the modular. After this first layer of sounds, I made a few percussion tracks on the OT and chopped up the vocal sample.
Next I patched up the Vermona QMI2 to have the OT MIDI sequence three voices from the modular for live synth goodness. The voices are Loquelic Iteritas - bass, Braids into Clouds - wavetable synth, and Ataxaric Translatron - arcade synth.
The whole audio stream is pumped out of the OT and back into the modular synth for effects processing via fxbox and Pressure Points."

Symbiote
Published on Jul 21, 2017 Comparative Irrelevance
"A quick little jam, playing around with integrating my Sub Phatty with the modular. I absolutely love the round, punchy sounds of the Phatty, but it obviously lacks the sequencer of its bigger brother. No problem at all when you have a little eurorack at hand!
Here are some abbreviated patch notes (not going too deep into this one, there's nothing particularly out-of-the-ordinary going on here. If you have any questions about the patch, leave them in the comments!):
In the rack:
Braids and Rings are both sequenced by the Sum output from Maths' cycling functions. You may have seen me play around with that concept in the 3 Modules series. Here, without any module restrictions, I've expanded on it a little: The Sum output is sent through Noise Tools' S&H, and then into the µScale. One output from µScale is sent to Braids, and the other (which is transposed via the Shift input) is sent to Rings.
Branches is used to make some gaps in between the sequence triggers, creating some space in the arrangement.
The outputs from the sound sources are mixed together, and then processed with Clouds at the end of the chain. Clouds' is in the default mode.
Sub Phatty:
The SP is being sequenced by the Brain Seed, which is clocked by the Noise Tools. The same clock signal is used to drive everything in the rack as well, so everything is nicely synced up.
Thank you for watching!"

An Interview with Barry Schrader Questions 6F: The Barnum Museum & 7 Current State of Synths

The final two questions in my interview with Barry Schrader are now live. Barry discusses what may be his magnum opus, The Barnum Museum, followed by his take on the current state of synthesizers. There are some tie ins to his previous work on Atlantis as well as Louis and Bebe Barron.
"If someone were to ask me what I considered to be my best work, there’s no question in my mind that I would respond that it’s The Barnum Museum. Taken as a whole, this is my longest and most ambitious composition, and one that took me four years to compose. At this time, it remains my last completed work.
The idea for The Barnum Museum came from a short story by one of my favorite living authors, Steven Millhauser. Millhauser is a unique writer, and, so, difficult to classify. He’s been compared to such authors as Calvino and Borges, as well as other writers classified as “magical realists,” but I think he’s in a class by himself. The Barnum Museum is a short story in a collection with the same title. I was fortunate to get permission from Millhauser and his agents to base the work on his story. I was especially lucky that Millhauser agreed to a years-long email correspondence about the work: I would send each movement to him as I finished it and he would comment on the work and my ideas behind it. This was invaluable help in my completing the piece.
P. T. Barnum established two museums in New York City in the nineteenth century. Barnum's American Museum was on the corner of Broadway and Ann Street from January 1, 1842 to July 13, 1865 when it burned to the ground. Barnum built a second museum soon after, but it was also destroyed by fire in 1868. The attractions made the venue a combination of a zoo, museum, lecture hall, wax museum, theatre, and freak show. At its peak, the museum was open fifteen hours a day and had as many as fifteen thousand visitors daily."
Don't miss the full interview question here. You can also go back to the beginning of my interview with Barry Schrader here.
And don't forget, Barry Schrader's Soundtrack to Galaxy of Terror is currently available for Pre-Order.

I do want to thank ALL of you, the readers and contributors of the site. It's an incredibly flattering and humbling experience to realize how many people take time out of their busy schedules to both visit, and contribute to the site on a daily basis. I hope this site, and what goes up, makes your day just a little bit better. I want to thank the people that create the content that gets featured on the site - all the makers and users of the gear we love. We sometimes take things for granted, but honestly, it's only been 12 years since we have been able to see and share so much in our world of synths. This site started at the birth of media sharing sites like YouTube, and before SoundCloud. The purpose of this site is to showcase our world. Be sure to support others when you can. I hope this site does.
Finally, I want to thank all of the sponsors you see on the site, and of course all of the supporting members of MATRIXSYNTH. Without your support this site simply would not be possible. Thank you so much!
