OBERHEIM DPX-1 Vintage Synthesizer Sample Player SN 750645

via this auction

"In 1987 Oberheim released the DPX1, a 2-unit rackmount 'Sample Player' during the era of the classic samplers. Its function is to load 3.5" and 5" diskettes containing samples. These samples are loaded into its 1 MB of RAM from which you can play the samples using any MIDI keyboard, controller or sequencer. It was compatible with the E-mu Emulator II , Sequential Prophet 2000, 2002, 2002+ , Ensoniq Mirage DSK8/DMS8 and the Akai S900 formats. You can't edit any of the samples, the DPX1 is simply a load-n-play machine. Its universality among these early samplers makes it great for anyone who may still have old disks of samples but not the samplers that created them. With the DPX1 you can resurrect those samples and use them again, or resample them into a modern sampler. Sounds can also be re-stored in an Oberheim DPX format on to 3.5" disks. The DPX1 has a very impressionable architecture. That is, it recalls the nuances of you're samples including any processing, looping, filtering and modulations resulting in very accurate reproductions of the samples as they would have sounded through their original Sampler synths. However you can't edit, alter, re-program or create new samples. Ensoniq and E-mu samples come through sounding just like they're being played out of the original synths, if not better. However, the Sequential sounds are not quite as nice when played from the DPX1 and cannot be stacked as they may be in the Prophet. The DPX1 has limited potential, but if you have the samples (and not the Samplers) this is an economic way to recover and hear those classic samples again."

Next-level creative FX plugin
Mutate your sound like never before with Shed Loads Of Resonators

The Butterfly Effect

Transform the simplest sonic event into the huge, the complex, the seismic. SLOR’s brand new audio-reactive processing algorithms mutate and augment your sound like never before. Build out an entire track from a single beat by transforming it into bass, chords and percussive FX, turn background noise into a cinematic soundscape or live-process an acoustic instrument for a mind-bending performance.

Infinite resonators, infinite possibilities

SLOR’s swarm of ground-breaking infinite resonators take sonic manipulation into new territory, blurring the lines between FX processing and synthesis.

Infinite resonators use a special algorithm to control the feedback path to allow transformations which are both extreme and tightly controlled. This is what gives SLOR the power to add subtle atmospheres, bend beats into chords and melodies or set up autonomous compositions and morph continuously between all of these.

Deep sound design in no time

SLOR’s interface is incredibly straight-forward and tweakable for an effect with so much power. Explore ideas and make radical transformations quickly without menu-diving - and if you want to explore further there’s plenty of depth hidden in the ‘+’ pages just one click away from the front panel. Make big waves in your production using features such as live transient detection, envelope following, morphing, parametric polyphonic LFOs, polyphonic scale mapping, swarm pattern switching and much more.

Step inside DMX Krew’s amazing studio full of vintage synths

Published on Oct 13, 2017 FACTmagazine

"Synth crazy.

Best known as DMX Krew, Ed Upton has been making electro, acid and IDM-laced techno since the early ‘90s for labels such as Aphex Twin’s Rephlex, Legowelt’s Strange Life and, more recently, Hypercolour. He’s also a gear fiend, with a studio full of vintage synths and drum machines.

While we were visiting Upton to check out his custom-made drum machine, the Opal Rhythm Computor, we had time to check out everything else in his studio, including his TR-606, SH-101 and Ensoniq ESQ-1.

Watch above, and check out his new album Strange Directions at Bandcamp."

"OFFWORLD DREAMING" Eurorack, Noise Reap Bermuda, MI Rings, Erica Synths Wavetable

Published on Oct 13, 2017 Lost For Words

"My Eurorack is growing - this week I received my Ornament & Crime and Noise Reap's Bermuda VCO. The Bermuda sounds incredible for an inexpensive module. I racked up both new modules to have a play and ended up with this patch. Whether the fact that I saw Blade Runner 2049 on Sunday had anything to do with the feel of this piece I can't say but I'm a big Vangelis fan. I hope you like this dreamy few minutes :)

Patch notes - recorded direct from the case, no external processing.

Yarns - providing arpeggiated clock only, no pitch, to the O&C in CopierMaschine app (F scale pentatonic major) going out to Bermuda VCO and Erica Synths Wavetable.

Bermuda (triangle wave) into DPLPG (first!) then filtered by Ripples which is being modulated by Peaks LFO. Envelope for DPLPG is other by other side of Peaks. A slight FM wobble from Maths. Into Pico DSP for mono delay.

Erica Synths Wavetable filtered by Polivoks with some modulation from Maths.

Maths is plucking Rings on the left hand End of Rise and slowly sweeping the Frequency, Position and Structure to create that lovely bell undulation.

2hp Verb reverb on everything!"

XAOC Devices - Belgrad

Published on Oct 13, 2017 DivKidVideo

"XAOC Devices absolutely killing it with Belgrad. It's a unique approach to the dual filter concept with a great character that's highly influence by input level and the range of interactive controls. You can span the two filters but the sound always goes through both allowing you to create phase style sweeps on top of low passes or dual bands create formant style peaks and troughs. It also makes for a nice dual oscillator when self oscillating, takes to modulation like a trooper and is all round awesome. Go XAOC!

TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS

00:36 Overview
Sound, input level, span, cut off, resonance, balance, modes, audio and CV inputs, attenuators, XM cross modulation, SM self modulation (feedback).

03:07 filter types, sweeps and sounds
Double slope low pass, low pass + band pass, low pass with pass band notch, double notch, low pass + high pass, double band pass, band pass mode, high pass with pass band notch, band pass + high pass, double slope high pass.

10:08 sequence and nodulation
saw wave acid style sequence with a range of CV modulation added to all inputs.

15:32 Audio rate modulation
audio rate modulation of FM/cut off, resonance, balance and span. Vowels, formants and total awesomeness!

19:42 Tito Switch
XM and SM, cross modulation and self modulation. Added drive, character and grit.

22:24 Self oscillation / dual oscillator
Using the self oscillation with high resonance and dual filter core we can span and balance between two self oscillating resonance points for a dual oscillator style set of sines. With the Tito switch we can add cross or self modulation for more character and unique waveshapes and these sines also FM beautifully.

26:44 Modulation and mangling drums
Audio rate modulation, filter sequencing, looping envelopes and LFOs bend and twist a drum beat."

MIDI CLOCK JITTER // ABERRATION FROM DEFAULT VALUE

Published on Oct 13, 2017 LESINDES

"Here we test 15 hardware units - AKAI MPC LIVE amoung those - and how exact they are transmitting MIDI clock to the very sensitive ELEKTRON MACHINEDRUM at 120 bpm. And the overall stunning result is: The older the tighter! In the end the ashaming results of 2 representative professional DAWs: CUBASE 9.5 and PROTOOLS 12.5 on WIN 10.
The master tempos of two machines (MFB URZWERG, ARTURIA KEYSTEP) deviate a little from our 120 reference tempo because both machines have no own bpm counter.

MIDI is often blamed for being to slow to be really precise in terms of timing. And this also correct notes (to a certain exetent). But triggering of notes are not the main task of DAWs anymore. With a proper MIDI interface DAWs are quite in time. The problem is the MIDI clock since it is not generated by the DAW itself but by the hosting OS and this OS is giving a sh*t on our time requirements handling it with a very low priority. There hardware solutions to avoid the unreliable DAW/OS clock generating it from an audio signal."

"I've gone full 80s, including VHS filter, and I'm not sorry. Couldn't get the vocals right so I overdubbed them, also not sorry. I think this is the most fun I've ever had covering something. More info under here.

Original song here, SOPHIE is a genius and I basically ruined all the experimentalism and eeriness of the original. Sorry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z3N7...

You know I've got an album out, right? https://wiaiwya.bandcamp.com/album/peach...

--- ABOUT THE VIDEO --

The device I'm playing is a Novation Circuit. All sounds are from Yves Big City's Delorean Dream pack which is a TREASURE - https://isotonikstudios.com/product/d...

USUALLY I record sending a USB cardioid mic into Ableton, track muted; circuit into iRig Pro into Ableton, track soloed but very low volume so I can hear it enough to sing with but there's not much bleed into the mic and I can mix them separately. I don't like singing with headphones. For this, however, the Circuit performance is live but I recorded the vocals separately because I couldn't get 'em right. I'm not a purist. I know a lot of you lot are.

New JP-8 inspired voice boards by tiergrinder

Published on Oct 12, 2017 tiergrinder

"Finally I got around and installed the new voice boards to my Jupiter clone. I made a six PCB test batch almost a year ago and build the boards, but never quite got around to install those.

This patch is made using two saw waves, and a bit of detune between the oscillators. VCO LFO modulation modulates both VCO1 and VCO2 with mild LFO modulation.

Filter is around 25% open to make the low end more pad like and boost the bass. Filter ENV MOD modulates filter just a bit to make the sound more alive. Filter keyfollow is around 60% to open up the upper notes.

Melody is inspired by Gattobus - "Momenti" Jupiter-8 VS System-8 demo"
