Borgggggggggggggggg!

via Rico Loverde on Facebook

"Super proud to be a part of Malekko. Especially on days like today...."

Rico tells me these are the first batch of 16 Malekko Richter Dual Borgs.

The Richter is for Grant Richter of Wiard who brought us the original Borg filters in Wiard format.

Buchla 204 vs 402 Stutter Jam from Votek Mendo on Vimeo.

"If you like your beats dark and gritty, Check this out!
Nothing serious, just improvising with my setup.

Elektron MACHINE DRUM providing the main sent trough Jason Butcher VCBM (ring mod) modulated by a 259 in FM mode. A ZEROSCILLATOR is doing the wobble base being filtered by a Solid State Filter Model 2040. I'm using the 402 LFO's to modulate the filter and also the ZOE plus a bunch of other parameters.

Also using a BUCHLA QUAD SPATIAL DIRECTOR MODEL 204 to blend between the main beat, a derived version of this beat sent through a TIME MACHINE MODEL 2050 (which i'm modulating the frequency with an LFO) and another reverberated version.
LOT'S of FUN!!!!

Sorry for the bad sound quality, will start filming with proper audio very soon.
Thanks to my wife too who interrupted the performance at the end. ;) hehe

X1L3 - circuit bent - synth mod - Roland TR 505

Published on May 22, 2013 manufacturedZ3R0·92 videos

"Cauldron born! Another dirge disco relic of the 80's risen from it's grave to do what it does best in the hell of the living. Juicy analogue filter mods on a retro 80's machine. Even if the glitch switches weren't fitted it would still sound good. The filter/delay combination i favour works nicely with drum machines and the tr505 is a fine example.

Upon completion the psu pcb had a few free terminals left so i decided to liven up under the front panel with a series of leds that shift through the RGB spectrum. So i guess as well as a nice drum machine it's also a moody lamp in a dark place for when you just want to lay back and and drift for a while."

ROLAND DEBUTS INTEGRA-7 EDITOR PLUG-IN FOR MAC

ROLAND DEBUTS INTEGRA-7 EDITOR PLUG-IN FOR MAC
Fast & Fluid Music Production Within Your DAW

Los Angeles, CA, May 22, 2013 — The INTEGRA-7 SuperNATURAL® Sound Module, Roland’s premier next-generation rack, now offers powerful music production capabilities within your Mac-based DAW when paired with the new INTEGRA-7 Editor Plug-in for Mac. Roland’s latest plug-in editor provides visual control of the INTEGRA-7 parameters, which include more than 6,000 highly expressive sounds (SuperNATURAL sounds, PCM sounds, and all 12 SRX expansion boards), independent SuperNATURAL acoustic, synth, and drum sounds, and much more. A VST instrument (VSTi) version and an Audio Units (AU) version are both available, seamlessly integrating the INTEGRA-7 into your Mac-based DAW for rapid workflow and instant recall.

The flagship INTEGRA-7 brings Roland’s farthest-reaching realm of creative power to keyboardists and composers, both live and in the studio, and the new editor plug-in gives an already powerful vehicle enhancements that allow for deeper and more streamlined access to creative flow and musical inspiration. With the development of SuperNATURAL sound and Behavior Modeling, Roland has blurred the boundary between acoustic and electronic instruments. Built upon these core technologies, the INTEGRA-7 gives musicians a goldmine of the latest SuperNATURAL sounds in a fast-access, fully stocked 16-part module. With the immense power of the INTEGRA-7, musicians can create amazingly realistic and detailed orchestral arrangements, immersive spatial sounds, and beyond.

The core of the INTEGRA-7 is its wealth of SuperNATURAL sounds with Behavior Modeling technology. SuperNATURAL not only mirrors the sounds of acoustic instruments, it also simulates the behavior of instruments when they’re played. With SuperNATURAL, sounds come to life under your fingers. Whether used in acoustic or electronic domains, the INTEGRA-7 puts a world of expressive sound in your hands. Go deep inside the programming engine and customize your own sounds, or let the INTEGRA-7 do it all for you. With so many great sounds onboard, and with the INTEGRA-7’s organic response to how you play your keyboard/controller, you’ll experience a new level of realism and effortless expression.

Roland’s new A-88 and A-49 MIDI Controller Keyboards are perfect partners for the INTEGRA-7. The SuperNATURAL mode button on the A-88/A-49 automatically assigns the INTEGRA-7’s most appropriate parameters to the mod lever, knobs, and D-BEAM for controlling the selected SuperNATURAL sound."

x0xb0x comparison x0xsh0p vs. Mode Machines: Totally different sound!

"In this video I'm comparing a x0xsh0p unit to a Mode Machines unit and point out the differences in sound. I can't tell whether the devices I have sound typical for their companies or not, but what I can definitely say is that there's a huge (!) difference in sound. I'm not trying to judge on them because I think they both sound great and they both sound like TB-303s to me. If you own an original unit and watch this video and you're thinking: "Neither of them sound like an original at all" please let me remind you that the one you have could sound way different from the original that someone else has. Enjoy and please rate and comment on this video I would really like to know what you think about these boxes. Which one do you prefer and why? Thanks a lot for watching!"

Conrad Tao: "iridescence," for piano and iPad - From 'Voyages'

Published on May 6, 2013 - Warner Classics

This ground-breaking composition, from 18-year-old American pianist/composer Conrad Tao' debut full-length album Voyages, features Conrad using the Reactable Mobile app on his Apple iPad, incorporating both synth lines and real-time processing of his piano playing, via the iPad microphone. Conrad describes the piece as being inspired by the phenomenon of "fractured light, that appears differently depending on what angle you look at it from," while also incorporating the concept of modern technology and its ever-changing development.

Conrad was listed in Forbes' 30 under 30 list of noteworthy musicians in 2011 (the only classical musician featured), and hailed by renowned music critic Harris Goldsmith as "the most exciting prodigy to ever come my way" (Musical America).

Vintage Custom "Yamaha" Rack DIY MIDI Synth?

"This auction is for a Vintage Custom Rackmount MIDI Synthesizer/Sampler Sound Module. It appears to be a custom rack mount creation from parts of a vintage 80's Yamaha Synthesizer, not sure which one. Photos of internals should help any synth geeks out there. If anyone has any idea, please submit your thoughts and we will post."

Anyone guess what this is? Pics of the inside below and more at the auction. Labels on the circuit board read "Symphonic Modulator", "Filter EXP & Noise Gate", "H.P Amp & Muting". Not seeing Yamaha anywhere.

Update via kid verses chemical in the comments: "the controls are from a CE20, so I am guessing it is one of those." "Also, the symphonic modulator was a ce20 feaature, so that pretty much seals the deal."

Jennings Univox - 50's Valve monophonic 'synthesizer'

via this auction

"This instrument was pretty much the first electronic venture for Tom Jennings who later went on to create Vox amplifiers AC15, AC30 etc. The Univox was used by the Beatles during their early Cavern days in Liverpool and can be heard on Telstar by the Tornados.

It's all valve, featuring a quartet of 12X7's for tone generation. Reed switches apply 'additive' filters, and octave effects. Separate power amp and speaker are housed in the case & amplification is via a 6L6. The keyboard packs away into the amplifier case, and the whole lot is portable as a single unit.

This example includes the rather hard to find knee volume lever.
It's in full working order with the exception of the vibrato which I just cannot fathom! Shouldn't pose a particular problem for a proper technician.
Don't expect it to play in tune, and be prepared for warm-up wailing!

The instrument is over 60 years old and is in pretty good cosmetic condition considering.

There's a lot of information about the Jennings Univox on with web, for example:

"Here's what was done to the Axxe:
-All sliders serviced, with carbon cleaned or replaced as needed,
-The original Decay slider was replaced with a new, dead-stock, slider.
-The internal power supply was completely replaced with a new New England Analog custom made power supply
which is sure to last another 30 years, this obviously will help the synth stay in tune as well.
-The synth was tuned and the filter calibrated.
-1/8" CV input jack added for control of cutoff frequency
-Switch installed to allow LFO to run free, (as opposed to restarting at every new note trigger.)
-1/8" Clock In jack to sync the S&H LFO rate to an analog arpeggio clock or whatever.
(This works best with +8 volt triggers or clock signals)
-New 1/4" High output jack installed
-The actual keys and connections were NOT serviced as it still plays pretty well"

A Patch A Day, No. 14

Published on May 22, 2013 hamiltonulmer·14 videos

"Three rough sine waves, playing a nice dominant chord, with a brief rise in frequency from Maths.

The three sines come from the DPO and Dixie II. I used the Graphic Sequencer to modulate the FM on the DPO, which gives the lovely rhythmic feel at the beginning. Definitely going to keep that one in mind.

Those three sines get mixed, and then go to the µFade. Yes, another µFade-focused patch.

The second main voice is Ch. 1 of the Maths, with the Wogglebug stepped CV output (for some reason) running through the Tame Machine, and then out to the BOTH in for the Maths. The Tame Machine actually produces a fun walk between pitches. Because I set it to "link" and not "trigger" it changes pitch according to its own tempo, not the Wogglebug-clocked Clock-Divided one that runs everything else. That gives the Woggling a fun bend in pitch as it corrects mid-note.

The rest should be pretty clear at this point - the Clock Divider opens on the /64 and exposes the MMG'd Maths channel via FREQ 2, while FREQ 1 slightly pulsates according to one of the other smaller divisions.

Very fun patch."

"I just got a new VCA (well 4 of them actually) in the shape of the Doepfer A-132-4.
I'm really impressed with the size (6hp), value for money and the sound - snappy, loud and clean. Here's a test patch with bass, percussion, hats and stab each routed through a separate VCA - and no matter how hot the levels get, the A-132-4 takes it all like a champ.

Patch details:
Kick drum: Analogue Solutions DB99
Bass: Cyclebox II sequenced by A-149 into VCA channel 1
Percussion: Piston Honda sequenced from A-160/A-161/A-138c into VCA channel 2
hats: A-118 into VCA channel 3
Stab: Flame Talking Synth into Pittsburgh delay into A-124 Wasp filter into VCA channel 4

Latest app details via iTunes:
"Koushion is a MIDI step sequencer that allows you to easily program drum patterns and melodies using your existing drum machine, hardware synthesizers, or soft synths and samples in your DAW.

---

**NOTE: Koushion is a MIDI controller, not a synthesizer, and therefore does not generate audio by itself. Koushion will work with your DAW, MIDI hardware, and background audio apps (via virtual MIDI).

**Windows Users: A third party has developed a CoreMIDI network driver for Windows called rtpMIDI, which will allow you to use Koushion wirelessly with your PC. You can download rtpMIDI here: http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/rtpMIDI.html

Features:
* 16 steps per scene (up to 128 steps in chain mode)
* 8 scenes with independent midi channel per scene
* 8 scene layers with independent key, quantization, and playback mode
* 4 playback modes: single, simultaneous, chain, rebound
* Key switching between any major, minor, or pentatonic scale
* Adjustable quantization (1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32)
* Quantized scene switching
* MIDI clock send/receive
* Tap to set tempo (great for syncing with a live band)
* Velocity control
* Monophonic drawing mode (only allows one note per step; great for programming leads)
* Wireless connectivity via CoreMIDI Network Sessions
* Automatic integration with other apps via CoreMIDI virtual ports. Open up a synth in the background and Koushion will trigger the notes!
* Dark theme to reduce eye strain when working in low-light environments

---

Connectivity:
Koushion connects to your existing MIDI hardware via the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or the iRig MIDI from IK Multimedia. It also connects wirelessly to your DAW via a connector application (for Windows) or CoreMIDI (for OS X)."

A Musical Analysis of Oxygene 2

♪♫ ♯♩♪♫♬ ► A musical analysis of Oxygene 2 - JM Jarre - Part 0/4 : Rythmics
Published on Nov 25, 2010 tlnet37

"Here I will show you that you can break that song down into its instrument tracks , and perform an acoustic analysis of each and every sound.

I will show you that it is possible to reproduce that with a cheap minimal equipment, just by ear and instinct, with no scores, no MIDI file, no computer. All is hand played except for rythmics part ... this is real music recorded with my "old school" method !

In this first part, I try to reproduce the rythm played in the original JMJ's Oxygene, with the Korg MiniPops 7 ; here, I used a standalone free application called Rythmus by ElektroStudio. In that software, you can adjust the volume of each sounds, the pan, the tune, the volume and the global tempo ; 2 presets are used simultaneously : Beguin and Slow Rock for Oxygene 2.

The next part I will show you how to make all noises (ocean, wind, storm, randomized short sequences) with Roland SH-101, Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy (tape delay), Small Stone Phase Shifter (phaser)."

Published on Jan 12, 2011

"this is a basic test : I will show you that it's possible to play Oxygene 2 with minimal equipment : 2 synths, 2 effects, one VSTi ... here 4 tracks are tested : phased wind (sh-101 + small stone) ; sequence 1 : internal sequencer of the sh-101 + memory boy ; rythmus by elektrostudio ; mellotron tape choir and bass (Alesis Fusion 8hd)"

♪♫ ♯♩♪♫♬ ► A musical analysis of Oxygene 2 - JMJ - Part 2/4 : "light cover"
Published on Apr 8, 2011

"How to make a soft version of Oxygene 2 with minimal equipment : only 2 synths !
All is hand and by ear played .This is a very "light" cover ! I recorded 10 audio tracks with Presonus Studio One, but without automation and I have to add 2 tracks for noises with the Roland SH-101.
I only use Rythmus (by ElektroStudio), Alesis Fusion 8 HD, Roland SH-101, Electro-Harmonix Small Stone (Phaser) and Memory Boy (Tape Delay).
I'm beginner, and not a musician, so ... sorry for bad hand playing and tempo not respected sometimes !

"One Alesis Fusion 8 HD + one Roland SH-101 + one Electro-Harmonix Small Stone + one Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy + software Rythmus by ElektroStudio, one USB AudioBox Presonus + Studio One + very much time to analyze = one cover of Oxygene 2 - Jean Michel Jarre, by a non musician, newbie in music, but working by ear and all hand played with errors on tempo and fingers position, ... so SORRY for mistakes !

"Hello ! another try with minimal equipment, just an experiment and a work on the sound and effects of that style of music from seventies. I used 3 analog pedals effects from Electro-Harmonix :Memory Boy, Small Stone Phase Shifter, Deluxe Electric Mistress ; 4 audio tracks with SH101 (internal sequencer for bass sequence and noises) and 2 audio tracks with the Alesis Fusion 8 hd with Tape Choir (mellotron choir) and Tape Mix Strings (mellotron-like too) ; all re-recorded in live in Presonus Studio One Artist v1.6.5 with audiobox usb interface."
