Nicholas Semrad's Sequential Rev 2 "Vintage Tribute" Patch Set (Demo)

video upload by Nicholas Semrad

"Here is a demo video for my now available-for-purchase Sequential Prophet Rev 2 "Vintage Tribute" Patch Set. You can purchase these patches at my website, www.nicholastsemrad.com/shop.

These patches are meant for use with the Sequential Prophet Rev 2 (8 or 16 voice). They will not work with any other hardware or software programs.

This patch set contains 2 parts:
- 25 patches I created to emulate some of my favorite vintage synths and synth sounds from various 70's/80's recordings
- BONUS: 40 patches meant to pay homage to the first 40 presets on the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5

DISCLAIMER: While the patches that begin with "P5" are meant to pay homage to the original Prophet 5, they will not sound 'exactly' the same. The P5 and the Rev 2 are very different boards with very different modulation functions and data ranges."

Contraption

video upload by nbor

"Gearing up for Wednesday's monthly in dt San Jose. I've been trying to make the most of the small synths, as it makes for a very portable situation. With only one effect on one sound, it is all very close to the circuits and raw.

Production notes: A dawless jam run on battery power alone. Roland SH-01A, Korg Volca FM, Meeblip Geode, @1010music Blackbox, and Sensel Morph. The Roland is going through a @MerisUs LVX delay. I found the cheap and compact "G-MARK" mixer from AliExpress for frighteningly cheap. It does a darn decent job, and is crazy small.

There are a couple battery packs - a 150Wh and a 99Wh. I ended up using the 2nd because the blackbox was making too much USB noise when everything was plugged into the 150Wh. There was still quite a bit of noise, but the Izotone RX-8 does a good job cleaning that out."

Cherry Audio Moog Series III VST Spotted

This one was spotted and sent in via electraumatisme.

Note the Cherry labels at the bottom of each module. It looks like Cherry/MRB

You can see it for yourself at 24:04 in this video.

Update: according to Atomic Shadow this actually appears to be the currently availabile VM900 Collection.

You can find videos dating back to 2021 here, intro video here. I'm not finding any videos mentioning the VM900 after 2021.

If anyone knows otherwise, feel free to leave a comment.

Update2 via Robert Saint John in the comments: "[Atomic Shadow] is correct, this is simply the Cherry Audio/MRB bundle of VM900 modules for Cherry Audio’s Voltage Modular platform, released in October 2021. We have not announced any plans to release this as a standalone or VST instrument"

Time Oddity Chorus (TOC) by Modalics

video upload by Modalics

"Time Oddity Chorus is currently available on our site, we’re running a launch sale for $29 with the MSRP being $39. www.modalics.com/products/time-oddity-chorus"

"Time Oddity Chorus (TOC) delivers intricate modulation, stereo expansion and rich textural layering.
Whether it’s bringing life to a guitar track or adding immersion & movement to a synth pad - TOC transforms the ordinary into a panoramic soundscape, ensuring every instrument resonates with depth and character.

Modalics Unveils “Time Oddity Chorus”
A modulation plugin that effortlessly bridges the gap between delicate stereo enhancements and rich, modulated soundscapes. TOC boasts a distinct character, seamless user experience, and superior sound quality.

Modalics, a trailblazer in the world of professional audio innovation, is excited to announce the release of "Time Oddity Chorus" (TOC). As a follow up to their latest plugin “BitFuzzer” this latest offering reaffirms Modalics' commitment to developing tools that not only enhance the creative process but also enrich the final sound. "Time Oddity Chorus" is engineered to breathe life into any track, offering a spectrum of sounds that range from subtle stereo enhancements to deeply textured, phaser-like intensities.

Modalics founders added -
“Time Oddity Chorus is the first in a series of products based on our new ”Time Oddity“ engine, this new engine was developed in order to produce great sounding modulation and spatial effects. We’re already working on several follow ups to TOC and we’re aiming to eventually have a complete modulation suite available”

Main Features:

Unique Sonic Character: The plugin offers a distinct sonic signature that can't be found in other chorus effects. TOC's unique processing algorithms and filters offer a truly singular, finely tuned experience - inspired by the holistic approach of our favorite pedals and devices.

Intuitive Interface: In true Modalics fashion, TOC boasts an easy-to-navigate interface, each control is shaped to offer a plethora of exciting, musical tones across it’s range.

4 LFO Types: Time Oddity Chorus features four distinct LFO options, enabling users to sculpt the modulation movement to their liking. Each LFO selection introduces a unique modulation character, from subtle undulations to vibrant waves.

Dynamic Voices Control: TOC’s “Voices” control is a powerful tool for shaping the depth and dimension of your sound. By dictating the number of times the processed audio is duplicated and modulated, users can navigate between wildly detuned yet focused tones to lush, expansive three-dimensional soundscapes.

Versatile Sound Shaping: With its ability to blend classic and modern modulation, TOC is adept at everything from gentle stereo widening to creating complex, layered soundscapes. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of musical genres and production styles.

Visual Feedback: TOC features an advanced visualizer that not only serves as eye candy but also provides invaluable insight into how the effect modulates the audio signal. This visual feedback helps users intuitively understand the depth and movement being applied, enabling more informed adjustments and creative decision-making.

Compatibility: PC/MAC - VST | AU | AAX Formats Available

Time Oddity Chorus is now available at an introductory price of $29 (With the MSRP being $39)
Available for purchase through www.modalics.com/products/timeodditychorus"

The following sequence uses the wavetable engines of Waldorf’s Iridium. The bass is from the Prophet 10 and the lead melody from the Arturia Minifreak. Effects are U-He Color Copy, Valhalla DSP Shimmer.

muSonics Moog Sonic V

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Moog muSonics Sonic V Demo video upload by MOS-LAB

"The sonic V is a synth developed around 1969/1970 by ex Moog employee Gene Zumcheck (the idea of a portable synthesizer had been refused at the time by Robert Moog).
This synthesizer was built by the company muSonics when Gene Zumchek join them, and was released "officially" when the company bought R.A Moog in 1971 under the Moog muSonics badge.
There were less than a hundred units built (mine has serial number 18).
Unfortunately, very few models are still in existence today, making it a very rare instrument. Not having been exported at the time, it was mainly
intended for universities in USA.
Its successor, the Sonic 6 is an improved and portable
version, but with a different filter (Moog ladder filter)
So it doesn't sound quite the same."

AJH Synth MiniMod Keys // If Hans Zimmer uses these daily...

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Imagine if Moog had made the original Minimoog a modular system, we'd have something very similar to the AJHSynth Minimod Keyz... and something that sounds identical. Buckets full of warm, rich, exquisite vintage vibes in a very handy format.

It's so much more than a minimoog clone - firstly the VCOs are based on the most revered RA Moog version, then there's the addition of ring mod, HP filter, extra LFOs

Plus all the extras that the NiftyCase brings - velocity,. aftertouch, LFO, Arp, Sequencer, zoning, voice modes multi, MIDI... and a whole lot more.

and then obviously the flexibility of a modular system... wonderful :)

"Delights of Kyoto" - Akai MPC + Roland SH4d + Roland OpSix + Arturia MiniFreak +

video upload by Patrick Manderson

"'Delights of Kyoto' was recorded live late Saturday afternoon on 3/2/2024 using a MIDI sequencer and a room full of synthesizers and audio gear. All automation was programmed into the Akai MPC X. Some manual tweaks on the Midas console was made during recording.

Inspired by YouTube videos of Japanese restaurants and diners - 'Kyoto' was developed using the Roland SH4d as a drum synthesizer, paired with my usual synthesized drum kit on the Korg Radias and some excellent Hydrasynth patches developed by @Jexus. Voice synthesis on the Arturia MINIFREAK and various pads, plucks, stabs and noises provided by the Sequential REV2, Roland JP-8080, Korg OpSix among others.

The most significant addition to this music is a careful degree of live mixing using the Midas Venice F24 running a stereo mix through the Warm Audio Bus Compressor.

Vanderson plays - Shamen "Indica" - cover on Roland MC-707

video upload by ॐ Vanderson ॐ

"Yesterday, Saturday evening, I reached for my favorite album by Shamen - Hempton Manor. One of the great songs on it, is of course "Indica". I decided to have some fun and create a cover of this track using only the Roland MC-707 (not for the first time, because many years ago on YT I posted a short recording using only the Roland MC-808).
This time I approached it in more detail. Of course, it was difficult to convey this characteristic atmosphere of the mid-90s. But something came out of it :)
The whole thing was recorded by ear - I used only one sample from the original (the characteristic click) that accompanies the recording from the very beginning."

New Life | Westlicht Performer alt firmware, Rings, Streams, WMD TrshMstr

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"It's spring! It's probably my favorite season of the year. This video showcases a few new ideas with Rings & Streams, add some rock with the WMD TrashMaster while Westlicht runs an 'alternative' firmware.

I got a tip from a subscriber there's a new firmware for WestLicht Performer. I checked it out and noticed is a 'fork' by Mebitek. A fork is a sidestep from the original code, where developers can try things out, and merge good stuff back into the main firmware 'branch'. I am not sure if this is ever going to happen because there isn't much going on in Westlicht development. So you'll need to see it as an alternative firmware, it may not be supported and it could bring new bugs to your module.

However, this firmware adds stochastic tracks, gate length variation probability, scale overrides and note repeats. I also noticed a few small bug fixes. Transposing from another channel now works as expected.

You can find the firmware here if you're interested: https://github.com/mebitek/performer/...

You only need to download UPDATE.DAT, put it on an SD and press the encoder while booting the module. Then follow the instructions. You can always go back to the factory release, so make sure you have a backup somewhere, and make a backup of your original SD including presets.

I think the firmware is great and it brings 'new life' to the module, but it's not very interesting if you don't have a Westlicht.

Streams also needed attention after keeping it stored for six years. It's a unique take on a low pass gate, and it brings new life to anything that's supposed to sound organic. So I gave it a shot with Rings. Since you can push Streams into saturation and clipping, I wanted to run Rings through WMD Trash Master. 'New Life' also qualifies for WMD. This great brand is back in business after the Covid-19 electronic parts nightmare. So yes. Winter is over."

East Beast Patching Tip (Filter Pinging)

video upload by Bata

"Showing how you can get some nice plucky sounds out of the cre8audio East Beast. The unit crashes on me later in the video and I'm unsure what caused/causes this bug (possibly something to do with changing the clock source while the sequencer is running).
