"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

In this Video, it is a little homage to Jim's OB-X8 Demo [previously posted here], the Fifth Swell Patch at the start of Jim's demo is stunning. I thought I would try and see if I could get a similar sound from the UB-Xa, and although it can't get it exactly, it's certainly quite close!

Enjoy."

"Episode six of the second series of the TV program from Benge, made at his Memetune Electronic Music Studio, and the final episode of the season

The series explores his passion for vintage synthesiser instruments and studio gear and how he uses it on his productions and collaborations

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It is divided into the following sections:

LITTLE BLACK BOXES - A look at some classic rack mount synths of the 80s and 90s

SWITCHED ON - This second series looks at a type of synthesis based around the ideas of Cybernetics, which Benge calls CYBERSYNTHESIS

SYNTHESISER CLUB - A short musical demonstration of a synthesiser classic or three

COMMERCIAL BREAK - Some shameless Memetune shilling

PATCHING TODAY - A deep-dive into vintage modular systems and how to set up a patch on them, starting from scratch

VIDEO LAB - A look at old video equipment and how to create experimental visuals

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

In THIS episode:

LITTLE BLACK BOXES - The Kawai k1m was a small desktop version of the K1 layer synth, introduced in 1988. Today I sequence it from an Atari ST running C-Lab Notator

SWITCHED ON CYBERSYNTHS - Patching it all together: after a brief section on quantising both pitch and time, I attempt to patch together all of the Memetune modulars (12 vintage systems!) in a giant Cybersynthesis monster patch

SYNTHESISER CLUB - Today, its more Yamahas, including a QX1 sequencer, RX5 drum machine, TQ5 FM synth module, REX50 multi FX, SY85 layer synth and a MT1X 4-multi-track cassette recorder

COMMERCIAL BREAK - Some adverts for Memetune related goodies, including the new Memetune Annual 2024 (sort of๐Ÿ˜)

PATCHING TODAY - Taking the wonky Roland System 100 for a ride

VIDEO LAB - In this episode we take the meme-mobile for a spin!

Ksoloti Gills Open Source DIY Desktop Unit

via Ksoloti

"Gills is a standalone desktop unit using the Ksoloti Core

Ksoloti is an environment for generating and processing digital audio. It can be a programmable virtual modular synthesizer, polysynth, drone box, sequencer, chord generator, multi effect, sample player, looper, granular sampler, MIDI generator/processor, CV or trigger generator, anything in between, and more.

The Ksoloti Core is a rework of the discontinued(?) Axoloti Core board. In short, Ksoloti aims for maximum compatibility with the original Axoloti, with some layout changes and added features. The Axoloti Core hardware board became unavailable at some point, but because Johannes graciously open-sourced the schematics (and since the global part shortage somewhat improved) it was possible to recreate a board nearly fully compatible to the original: enter the Ksoloti Core.

Using the Patcher software on your computer, you create your own sound patches by placing and connecting sound objects, or explore patches other users shared. You can edit any existing patches and even objects, or write entirely new ones from scratch. When you are satisfied with your patch, you can upload it to the Ksoloti Core’s internal memory – or save a collection of patches on SD card – so you can play it without your computer connected.

The fun really starts when you connect pots, buttons, LEDs or displays, sensors and more to control your patches and make Ksoloti a tactile and highly playable hardware instrument.

Board dimensions and layout aside, the two main hardware differences to the original Axoloti Core are:

Ksoloti Core does not have any audio and MIDI jacks on-board.
Ksoloti Core has more pins and functions broken out to headers.
Full information on getting started with the Ksoloti can be found on Ksoloti github here: https://ksoloti.github.io/"

Oddment Audio Groc Demo at AES University of Michigan Chapter Tomorrow Apr 5th

For those that can make it, Oddment Audio's Groc will be demo'd at the University of Michigan tomorrow. Details follow.

"This month we were lucky enough to meet Trevor Reed, another local in our little Michigan town that was enthusiastic enough about Groc and Oddment to join us in the development effort. With both a software and music background, we think Trevor can help us accelerate Groc’s workflow and user interface. It has also been great to put our first real Groc into someone’s home studio and let them explore on their own.

John will give a presentation on Groc for the Audio Engineering Society’s University of Michigan chapter on Friday April 5 at 1-2pm (tomorrow!). If you happen to be near Ann Arbor, the event is open to the public and we have included all of the details below. A huge thanks to Nick West, the student AES chapter chair, and Dr. Jason Corey with the Performing Arts Technology faculty for helping to organize this event. We also expect Justin Van Slembrouck from Modern Sounds to join us and share a bit about what they have been working on lately. This should be a lot of fun, and as an alumnus of the department, John is anticipating a lovely trip down memory lane.

In preparation for Friday, John had a chance to present Groc to the Northwestern Michigan College audio technology students. Thanks to Brady Corcoran for arranging this and to all the students that had really great questions and seemed enthused about granular synthesis. We hope these local audio enthusiasts can help us record samples, create patches and maybe even help to produce and test Grocs before shipping them to you!"

Kebarp AUv3 MIDI Arpeggiator

via Keybudapp (App Store link)

"Welcome to Kebarp, the super quick arpeggiator app. Simply drag your finger to draw notes on the customizable grid in no time.

The numbers on the grid represent the notes in the scale. 1 is the root note, 2 is the second note, -2 is the note before, and so on.

On the control strip, adjust the minimum and maximum octaves, set the step count, and fine-tune the sequencer speed.

Easily adjust gate, velocity, their variety, and swing settings directly from the control strip.

Behringer Edge Modular Patches/Patterns/Samples No Talk Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Behringer Edge «Modular Grooves» is a collection of 50 patches + patterns: 17 Percs/Drums, 16 Basses, 17 Synths. It is dedicated to the modular vibe, loved for its analog warm sound, experimental attitude, rich opportunities, unique features and tones, and inspirational workflow.

๐Ÿ’Ž The presets feature various colors: warm, noisy, detuned, distorted, as well as mild, clean, soft, punchy, dark, bright, deep, and airy.
Some timbres are great to play the first role in tracks or jams, while others will work perfectly as additional parts.
You may use the patches as they are, but I strongly recommend tweaking the knobs to develop the timbre during your performance and get an exciting experience.

๐Ÿ“ฅ Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/edge...

๐Ÿ’ฝ The soundset also includes 24/41000 WAV samples, accompanied by BPM and scale information. You can use them as they are, or you're free to resample, edit, and apply effects. These samples offer a versatile material for your experimentation.

๐Ÿ“š The soundset is presented in PDF format. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.

๐ŸŽง There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset.
To recreate these patches, you need up to 3 patch cords.

Tuning is an important part of the final result, but it’s quite difficult to depict the settings of oscillators frequencies and sequencer knobs as they are quite small, and even a tiny movement may shift the pitch. I tried to be as accurate as possible to draw these settings (the way they play in the audio examples), but don’t be upset if you can’t recreate the same melody. You may spend some time to catch the same melody, or you may use the settings as a starting point for your own melodic or percussive lines.

I used an external USB clock from Ableton Live. When external clock is used, TEMPO knob has no effect, so I left its value on some default position. Only tempo division (SCALE) changes the playback. If you use EDGE as a master clock device, change TEMPO to your taste.

๐Ÿ”” The video contains demo tracks featuring these presets. I've added other samples, drums and pads, to create a complete musical context. The EDGE sequences can be quite complex, producing various timbres at once, like bass and percussion. To help you distinguish, I've marked the EDGE and ADDITIONAL SOUNDS with different colors.
These ADDITIONAL SOUNDS are not included in the soundset.

One of my favorite tracks from the 80s.
Living On Video by the canadian synthpop group Trans-X (1983)
Written by Pascal Languirand, produced by Dominique and Carmine Nicodemo

featured: Roland SH-101 Analog Synthesizer (1981)

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."
