Sequential Take 5, Moog Subharmonicon, Walrus Slöer - cinematic synth performance

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

I'm on a big kick right now in just playing the gear in front of me. Here, I brought out my favourite all-arounder, the Sequential Take 5, and paired it with the Moog Subharmonicon to create a little rhythm and arrangement. The Walrus Slöer adds reverb to the Subharmonicon; the Take 5's delay and reverb are both from its internal effects.

It's incredible how the Subharmonicon can quickly inspire some chords, and how the Take 5 can take you from an idea to a finished song with just a little tweaking.

Thanks for listening.

Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

285t Tiptop Audio & Buchla

video upload by Stazma

"Today we dive into the last born of the 200t serie, the Frequency Shifter & Balanced Modulator Model 285t. I've never had a frequency shifter in hardware before (I use the Ableton one quite a bit tho) so it was a bit of challenge to get into it but I found a great article that helped me a bit on Signal / Perfect Circuit, go check it out: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/signal...

Many crazy weird stuff but also some very subbtle and nicce sounding stereo effect.

Have fun!!!"

Spectral Ratcheting With The ReSynthesizer | Make Noise

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"Spectraphon Linear Array Modulation!! Get the firmware here: https://www.makenoisemusic.com/firmware/

Last time we created several Arrays from the same sonic matter but with different modulations during their creation, then heard the difference as we modulated the various Arrays with the same modulator. This time let’s flip that around, we’ll create a single Array and hear how it sounds when we alter the modulator. By inscribing a simple rhythm into our Array we can use Slide modulation to evoke something along the lines of classic 'ratcheting.'

Tiptop Audios 285t Eurorack Format Buchla Module Makes Its Official Release

via Tiptop Audio

"Another legend from 1971 is making a comeback today! The Buchla and Tiptop Audio Model 285t Frequency Shifter is now shipping. Priced at $285, the module is available for pre-order through our dealers and will begin shipping shortly.

The theory of shifting frequencies using analog multipliers was first invented in the early 1900s. However, in 1971, Don Buchla took this concept and explored how it could interact with the audio signals of his modular synthesizer. By combining it with a balanced modulator into a single module, he likely created one of the world's first analog audio effect processor modules."

You can find demos of the 285t in previous posts here, including a couple that went up today. As always, check with the dealers on the right for availability.

"Paula Barouh and Joe McGinty spent a Sunday morning at This Museum Is (Not) Obsolete in Ramsgate, UK, creating spontaneous compositions, utilizing Paula's amazing voice and an eclectic assortment of instruments in the museum's collection. These pieces will be edited down for a future release. The museum is open to the public on weekends, but you can also book private recording sessions. Barouh-McGinty

Playlist:

1. Barouh-McGinty: "Dry Love"
Barouh-McGinty is the international collaboration between Chilean singer Paula Barouh and NYC keyboardist Joe McGinty. "Dry Love" is their first release. The song was improvised at McGinty's vintage keyboard studio, Carousel Recording, in Brooklyn, NY, with further editing and overdubbing by McGinty. Video editing and effects by Gal @gelischile.
The loop is a combination of the "Glitchedelica" disc on the Panoptigon and the Sequential Tempest drum machine. Bass is the Moog Subsequent 37. Other instruments: Wurlitzer Electric Piano, Casio MT-400V, Mellotron M4000D, Therevox.
The duo met at McGinty's piano bar, Sid Gold's Request Room. Impressed by Barouh's singing and improvisational skills, McGinty invited her to his studio to create an extemporaneous composition. Though the percussion loop was prepared in advance, neither knew what the other was going to do until recording started. This song is the result of their second improvisation. The first, 'NYC Junkie' will be released soon.
2. Barouh–McGinty: NYC Junkie
The second release from Barouh–McGinty:NYC Junkie. Vocals: Paula Barouh
Keyboards, Production: Joe McGinty
Video edited by Paula Barouh and Dave Fasano.
Like their first release, NYC Junkie was improvised in Joe McGinty's studio in Brooklyn. Unlike their first release, there are no overdubs or edits. What you hear and see is what was created in the moment. Paula had no idea what the music would sound like, and McGinty had no idea where Paula would go vocally.
Instruments used: Quilter Labs Panoptigan 'Mod Rock' disc, Dave Smith/Oberheim OB-6, Moog Subsequent 37. Looper: Audio Damage Enso.

Sonicware AMBIENT Ø - PATTERN CHAINING "Time Variant"

video upload by Alba Ecstasy

"A few hours later I made this 👉 [AMBIENT Ø - The Perfect Ambient Companion] I thought that I could do more with that idea, so I made another video I didn't published (it's a version of the middle part of this video) because later I wanted to get more. So I recorded this track. After many hours of tweaking I must have to admit!
I knew I can do more than that an ambient atmosphere with the Ambient 0: a sequencing and arpeggiating that would suit my style. It's a little more to dig, but it can be obtained with this ambient machine. Behringer EDGE accompanying for drums. Which I forgot to sync: see that yellow patch cable? I disconnected it before recording. Don't know why 😂
No external FX.

Ignore that fake 'tremolo' playing, but I wish I could do that with the Ambient Ø (I really need the OSMOSE 😅)!

Hope you'll enjoy!"

"This unit had been in use by our customer until we bought it. It had been serviced by another tech in the recent past, but we still had to pay our tech for the 15 hours of highly skilled labor required to get it up to our standards (including fixing a problem the previous tech didn't fix right), and now it's ready for its next happy home. As you can see from the pics, it appears as though someone replaced the original wooden sides with new ones.

Someone previously replaced a bunch of the original screws with some strange ones, so we had to waste an hour disassembling things and putting in new screws of the right type. Techs, please don't do this! Don't misplace the originals / order the right screws when you do so you don't make more work for the next tech who's got higher standards."

"00% working and currently has the original preset bank loaded. The membrane switches are all working. Over the years the unit has had a few repairs, including one of the pot muxes and replacement of all of the VCO tuning caps (Believe me, you want this done on any Polaris you find) The headphone out circuit on these is a rather poor design, which causes a good deal of hum. I have disabled this, as I want the cleanest sound I can get from the Hi Z output jack. (The Hi impedance output is the one that sounds the best) All of the keys are working perfectly. One key has a slight wiggle, which is very minor and doesn't affect playing."

Tiptop/Buchla 200 Series | Episode 11 | 285t Frequency Shifter & Balanced Modulator

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"The 285t is a worthy addition to the already impressive classic 200 series by Tiptop Archeology and Buchla. It has two separate sections which can be combined at will. The top section is a frequency shifter with a built in reference VCO/LFO that can go up to 1K and allows modulation and FM. You can use your own reference sound by switching up to EXT but then you'll need to take care of FM and modulation yourself. The section can be used to play with the perceived pitch of any source, tuning it up and down at will. You can also use it (multed) to add an extra layer to a single voice, or to a mix.

The lower section is a classic ring modulator with a dedicated out, and a variable output that's under CV control. Variable mode can morph the effect from off to amplitude modulation (unipolar) to ring modulation (bipolar) which adds metallic effects. Ring modulation works best with sinewave modulators, but you can throw any combo of waveforms at it. It pairs very well with the 'simple' 258 VCO because it has two sinewaves, where the 259 has only one.

Marius Leicht - Chor der Oszillatoren (Oberheim Eight Voice)

video upload by Marius Leicht

"I recorded a whole album using nothing but this dream synthesizer for every single sound. It consists of precomposed, multitracked pieces as well as free improvisations of which this is one. It showcases nicely what fascinated me most working with the Oberheim: The subtle interactions between these eight voices, each one produced by an individual full synthesizer of its own. They are not synced in any way and each has its own tuning, envelope shapes, filter characteristics and all... It's like a human choir, where all the singers give their best to create a uniform sound, yet you can still follow each individual voice with your ears. Hence the name of this improvisation.
Learn more about the album at the link above and feel free to buy a physical CD. :-)"

Instruō - tràigh [Signature Edition]

video upload by Instruō

Update: DivKid video added below.

"Hello!
Jason here.
Thank you for watching this video :)

This Signature Edition limited re-release of the tràigh low-pass filter module is available for purchase direct from Etsy:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/18233...

I am producing a limited batch which will be available for purchase while stock lasts.

This revised module was developed as a creative side project over the past month or two as a means of dealing with the unfortunate situation of having a very large pet greyhound with a relatively large diagnosis of cancer.
Winston was confirmed to have a stage 2 soft cell sarcoma earlier this year. He underwent a surgery on September 24th during which the tumour was successfully removed. (He has recovered very well and quickly!)
Due to the location of the sarcoma there is a high likelihood of cancer cells remaining at a microscopic level. If left unchecked they will likely return as a tumour with a chance of metastasising.
Winston began a 4 week treatment of radiotherapy on November 4th.
As of writing this we are now past the half way point and he is responding very well with no significant side effects presenting.
Each treatment requires full general anaesthetic, so I have a very dopey boy every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the entire month of November.
The vets do provide him with some roast chicken each session when he wakes up. So he seems quite happy with his current unusual routine.

DivSkip: Exploring Speed Ramps

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"This clip showcases one of our favourite modes on DivSkip, our module collaboration with ‪@DivKid‬, speed ramps for triggers!

DivSkip's channel 1 is set to play a house pattern with a 4/4 kick on Out A, and a snare on the upbeats on Out B. The Kick trigger is going directly ‪@VladimirPantelic‬ ‘s VPME QD quad drum. The snare trigger is duplicated with Multiplikand, and used both as trigger for channel 4 and an 808 snare on Mutable Instruments Peaks.

DivSkip's channel 4 is set to ramp mode. Depending on how the knob is set, the time between two triggers will speed up or slow down. This speed ramp advances an arpeggio played on the ‪@weareelektron8453‬ Model:Samples in single cycle waveform mode.

Finally, #DivSkip 's channel 2 is playing a noise model on Mutable Instruments Plaits, with the A and B outputs triggering different settings using ‪@vaskiembedded‬‘s super handy ECS-4 Triggered Switch module.

Enrica mutes and unmutes each channel on the fly with a click of the push potentiometer.
