Installing sounds to the Alesis Fusion from a PC
YouTube via FailedMuso. Use your Fusion as a portable hard drive.
"A tutorial on how to correctly install sounds onto the Alesis Fusion from a PC. It's a simple process but if done incorrectly, it can cause much stress when trying to locate your new sounds.
!!WARNING!! Do not use this method if you are using a Mac. This method will result in you wiping your Fusion's Hard Drive, leaving nothing but the new sounds."
Two More Modules
YouTube via dkimcg
"I got these two Harvestman modules today, the Pokivoks VCF and the Tyme Sefari with the Sound of Thunder expander. I'm still learning how to use them. The filter sounds beautiful, and is pretty cool that you can mix two signals in. It sounds very CCCP.
The Tyme Sefari, I have to do some experiments with a bigger time scale to see how long a sample it can play back, and some VC experiments too. This is pretty much my first patch after figuring out the basics of the Tyme Sefari.
M28, M17, M10, and the Paia timing and making gates and triggers. M15s, Ring mod, wave shaping, etc. mostly to end up barely audible. I want to get my patches leaner so I don't suck so bad and keep using up cables I don't need to."

Reactable en CampusParty Valencia 2008
YouTube via criadobot
"The reacTable in campusbot, campusparty, Valencia 2008 specifications, collaborative electronic musical instrument with a tangible interface based on a table, and inspired by modular synthesizers of the sixties. It was developed by the Music Technology Group at the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, a research team composed of Sergi Jordà, Marcos Alonso, Günter Geiger and Martin Kaltenbrunner. Multiple simultaneous users share total control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on the surface of a bright circular table. Manipulating these objects, representatives of the classical components of a modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sound typologies, generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer. There are only 5 reacTable, which included it was sold to Icelandic singer Bjork."
Messing around with old PAIA, Doepfer and Mobius
YouTube via pristak777
"Messing around with my finally integrated Eurorack modular and Paia 2700/4700 using the Mobius sequencer. Paia oscillators, filters, and vca's. Doepfer mixer and envelope generator. Livewire Vulcan modulating one filter. PAIA lfo the other. The two oscillators are out of tune at first, but they are mostly brought into tune after a little bit of adjustment from the transposer module."
HarriL - Temporary Patten(Live)
video upload by HarriL
"This is most likely the fastest tracks I've made for a video. The time it took to make this was about an hour. Evolver sequenced from the EMX, Revolution through ESX's effects.
Nothing much to say, it's a chill track made just because I've had such a long pause in uploading anything new. I'm still making new stuff, but never really got around recording them into a full track.
I just might do a video of a selection of unfinished patterns that I have made during the years."
The Amazing Klee Sequencer 1
YouTube via sduck409
"Here's a short demonstration of some of the features of this new sequencer. I'm controlling 3 voices with it - all MOTM 300 vco's through various filters and vcas. All in real time with no input from other sources. The sound quality's not the greatest - just using the camera mike - I had the monitors up pretty loud but the sequencer was closer so there's still sound from the switches. You can find out more about this sequencer at electro-music.com - go to the forums, and look for the klee section in the diy area."

Another Odd PlanB Modular Synth Patch
YouTube via dkimcg
"Don't ask what I did, I don't remember exactly, but there was FM involved, ring modulation and wave shaping, the M25 Voltage processor being used as an audio mixer, Delay feedback from and through the Moogerfooger 104z, and VC of the M10 which was self cycling and being triggered by the Model 28. I was trying to get something that reminded me of a Serge type sound. I don't think I was quite successful, I need more modules to get closer.
I also recorded a second track of audio through the Roland Space Echo, but this track is dry, nothing added in the computer, not even compression, just analog compression through the Urei LA-22 during recording."
arduino sequencer
YouTube via 909techno
"arduino - creating new sequence, repeat 8 times, create another new sequence. sends note, accent, slide to mam mb33mkii and kick, open hi hat and closed hi hat to tr909. will add buttons and knobs to adjust the chances of sequence attributes (more slides, more octive jumps, etc.). you can also consider this video a decent demo of the mam mb33 mkii - all the synth sounds are from it. distortion is built-in. added a bit of reverb and compression that is all."
VINTAGE ANALOG MTI AutoOrchestra AO-1

images via this auction
"This truly vintage and early synthesizer MTI Auto-Orchestra is a sophisticated electronic musical instrument made in the 1970's. It contains a drum machine, an accompaniment generator and a separate bass sound. It was designed to be an electronic instrument for the instrumental soloist with three-note chord accompaniment synthesizer and an advanced rhythm machine.
The chords, with a choice of similar sounds of a piano, an organ or strings, can be set (by outside switches) to be major, minor, dominant seven or diminished chord. The device also offers automated walking bass."
Mochika2
"This synth features one analog square and saw waveform VCO (voltage controled oscillator) with a huge pitch range, from subsonic to ultrasonic sound.
One square and triangle waveform LFO (low frequency oscillator), that modulates the VCO for the vibrato effect creating old school arcade Atari-like sounds.
White noise generator that triggers the VCO and can create percussion like sounds.
8 step Sequencer with note on/off switch and pitch knob for each step
It features a 1/4 inch audio output, 1/4 inch CV Output (to control other analog gear).
The Mochika2 features a MIDI input to sync the Mochika with any midi device sending midi clock signals, the mochika can sync 1, 2, 4 and up to 8 times the tempo of the master clock midi device, also it can be used as a midi to gate converter to sync other analog gear using the CV output of the Mochika2.
Also the instrument is ligthed with 1 ultra bright red led that indicates the LFO Rate, and 8 red leds to indicate the step that is being played. Very useful when you play it on a dark stage. The Analog Sequencer is packed in a cool laser cut clear acrilic case that shows all the hand made analog circuitry. The instrument is powered directly from 110V or 220V AC. Dimensions: 230mm(W), 170 mm(D), 80mm(H. incuded rubber feet and knobs) Sound Samples , Video and extra large Pictures: Visit my blog: www.atomolabs.blogspot.com"

Extreme sea weather
YouTube via GCom67. I thought this was a pretty cool video so I dropped GCom67 a line asking him what synths he used. I saw the Alesis Andromeda A6 in the tags for the video. The following is what he had to say, "I used the Andy for pads/bass/piano stabs thoughout and some seq/FX (wind etc) parts which are just in the mix, really for thickening the track out. The bongos are from my Big Fish 'The Art of Jo' sample library. The snare and hihats i sampled from an old band sound check i recorded on minidisc years ago. Shaker i did my self with a half full pepper mill and Rode NT2 mic. I love to use Waves SSL vst plugs and RSO Extreme Warmth on the final mix."

MiMa feat. Van Halen - I'll Wait
YouTube via mima14031985
"And now time for another great Van Halen keyboard song. A special thank goes to user Synthartist69 and his video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYeNj4... which instructed me on how to play that song.
A note on the bassline: it's different from the original one, but it's a mine choice.
The sound comes from The JP8000, which it's being played thru my good old Roland Juno 106, acting as MIDI controller.
Unfortunately my Juno is now suffering for dead voice chips, so it cannot sing in this video at that time.
The patch being used here it's the regular, used and abused 2-oscillators detuned sawtooth sound that you find in tons of songs out there. I've added some filter envelope in order to have a fast raising attack and slow decay, as you can hear in the synth line of the original song, and a little touch of resonance for making the sound a bit brighter.
Sorry for my not-the-best keyboard skills :-P. Any comment or criticism, while being constructive, it's really appreciated. Enjoy and thanks!"
MiMa feat. Liquido - Narcotic
"Here is my rendition of the famous tune from Liquido. I've done a simple all-keyboard arrangement, and I've found that my Roland JP8000 can do the original sound pretty close.
The JP8000 it's being played thru my good old Roland Juno 106, acting as MIDI controller (as done in my Jump! video with the Yamaha SY77 controlling the Korg N5).
Unfortunately my Juno is now suffering for dead voice chips, so it cannot sing in this video at that time.
For those which own the JP8000 out there, the sound it's obtained from a 2 osc patch made by a SuperSaw oscillator, with detune slider at 1/3 and mix slider to its maximum (OSC1), stacked on a regular saw oscillator transposed 1 octave down the first one (OSC2). Do a little detune to OSC2 to widen more the sound and balance the two oscillators in order to have the OSC1's volume a little bit higher than OSC2, and you've done the business.
Sorry for my not-the-best keyboard skills :-P. Any comment or criticism, while being constructive, it's really appreciated. Enjoy and thanks!"

Rop Papen RG

By using the RG onboard sequencer it is possible to create classic Rhythm Guitar grooves, but beyond that you can use the synthesizer features and effects to make fresh new edgy guitar grooves. To play the grooves RG is using a keyboard layout of "major chords" and "minor chords", each with two sequence patterns (A or B) option.
It is only a matter of hitting a single note in the major keyboard range or minor keyboard range and the groove plays. The sound sets are clean sampled guitars, which gives you great freedom and flexibility when using the synthesizer features and effects of RG.
Guitar types included are:
- The classic Fender Stratocaster ® electric guitar
- A 8th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar
- A 16th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar
The synthesizer parts of RG include a classic analog modelled synthesizer filter, LFO, envelopes and modulation section. The effect section can be built up by using up to 3 effects at a time. Included are midi time-based delays, chorus and also speaker simulators, phaser, flanger and many more. Included are over 500 presets included 300 "RG" grooves and 200 "basic" grooves.
RG…the very first 'Rhythm Guitar Synth'."

AudioCubes Reviews, OSC Support and Open Source SDK

We put together a mini audiocube configuration panel for building audio applications easily with the cubes and Max/MSP. This will also let us develop some interesting standalone audio applications in the very near future. As an example, we created some patches to send Open Sound Control (OSC) messages to Future Audio Workshop's Circle synth using the AudioCubes. We also did a Quartz Composer example to send colour info over Open Sound Control (OSC) from Quartz to the AudioCubes' RGB LED.
AudioCubes compatible with Max/MSP 5
AudioCubes work with Max/MSP 5 Cycling '74 recently announced Max/MSP 5, a new version of its well-known creative development environment Max/MSP. As you probably already know, AudioCubes comes with an open source development kit consisting of the hardware communication external for Max/MSP and a collection of Max/MSP patches for making your own applications for AudioCubes. You can download all software from the Percussa Website under the Support section, even if you don't have AudioCubes. Today we tested the patches and external with Max/MSP 5 and all patches and external seem to work fine, so we can confirm that AudioCubes and Max/MSP 5 are compatible.

Oberheim OB-Mx calibration ROM and instructions
via Aaron on AH:
"Courtesy Tom Virostek.
See here: http://users.ece.gatech.edu/~lanterma/obmx
The calibration procedure is pretty complex and requires a scope (and preferably the voice board extender card that lets you get to the board while the unit is on). The OB-Mx uses some digital pots with built-in nonvolatile memory. I had always assumed that these were recalibrated upon booting up the OB-Mx, but it turns out they are set in this calibration procedure. I suspect that a lot of errant voice boards that are out there just need recalibrated. Maybe some of them were sloppily calibrated to begin with - who knows.
- Aaron
P.S. One caveat is that Lynx Crowe told me he recalled there being some runs of voice boards where Gibson used the wrong sort of capacitors in the oscillator section, resulting in boards that went out of wack as the temperature changed. He couldn't recall exactly what or where."

Remembering Bob with YouTube Channel Launch
"August 21, 2008 - Remembering Bob and Celebrating Our Second Anniversary with Music for Download and YouTube Channel Launch
Today we pause to reflect on the powerful legacy that we strive to honor and support every day. Bob Moog lives on through his instruments, through the musicians that use them and through the music. Yet Bob's legacy of technical brilliance and creative warmth extends beyond the music community, and touches thousands of people around the world who have been effected by his pioneering career. The Caring Bridge site that Bob's family established for him in the summer of 2005 has now topped 300,000 visitors -- thousands of those people have left heartfelt tributes. Bob lives on in so many ways – the Moog Legacy is rich, vast and varied.
Today we launch a tribute to that legacy in our new YouTube channel. On this channel, you'll find friends, family, colleagues, musicians and music-lovers reflecting on the impact Bob had on their lives, and on the world of music. Featured on this channel is a beautifully crafted video from Amin Bhatia called "Virtuality: The Moog Legacy". You will remember that we featured Amin's "Virtuality" CD in our May newsletter in celebration of Bob's birthday. Now, Amin pays hommage to Bob in this video tribute. It is not to be missed! You can find out more about Amin's CD on his website www.aminbhatia.com.
Many thanks to our summer interns at Steven's Institute of Technology, Andrew Bentz and Ken Bachlor, who, along with their professor David Musial, created this YouTube site for us.
We are also delighted to announce that we now have music for download on our MySpace page. Many of the tracks from our "Mooged-Out: Asheville" CD are available here, and all proceeds from these downloads go to benefit the Bob Moog Foundation. This is an easy, affordable and fun way to support us! The music from this compilation CD is wonderfully varied – and each track offers its own unique Moog sound. Many thanks to our volunteer MySpace Coordinator Wheat Williams for making all of this possible, and to all of the Asheville musicians who have donated their tracks to the foundation. The Mooged-Out CD is available as a gift with a $25.00 donation made here.
Also available for download exclusively on our MySpace page is an original all-Moog composition by synth wizard extraordinaire and Moog enthusiast Erik Norlander. Erik's song "The Princely Hours" offers a stunning tribute to the Moog sound though it's driving beats, ethereal nuances and fantastic leads. Erik used five Moog instruments (and only these instruments!) in the making of this piece: his massive 1967 modular Moog, Minimoog Model D, Taurus pedals, Moog Rogue and Minmoog Voyager. This musical tribute is nothing short of a celebration of the Moog Legacy and an exposition of a stunningly talented musician who carries the torch for that legacy every time he gracefully, knowingly lays his fingers on a synth. Enjoy “The Princely Hours” and help the foundation out by purchasing it today. You can find out more about Erik and his massive modular Moog at www.eriknorlander.com.
Erik's composition also graces the home page of our website. We've made few updates to our website, and will continue to do so over the coming months. You can expect new content, photo galleries, music and announcements each time you visit. Be sure to check the new Letter from the Executive Director here.
Bob's life and work serve as a huge source of inspiration for us here at the foundation. We hope that you will pause today and reflect on how he lives on in your life.
