Tenori On sequencing Access Virus TI Snow 01a

YouTube via polishbroadcast
"Trying to expand the internal sounds and get beyond that recognizable Tenori On sound and timing. I thought the 4 parts of the TI Snow would be limiting but the sounds can be so big it is a challenge to try and be simple. The Tenori On is in "Advanced" mode so i wasn't locked into score mode for the first 4 layers which was useful on my Nord Modular G2 (which i am also uploading).

Excuse the quality. This was recorded with my Macbook Pro's iSight and audio input so the video quality is bad and there is a buzz in the audio. Beyond the buzz, the audio sounds pretty ok."

YAMAHA CS50

via this auction
"The CS-50 was released just one year before its famous big brothers, the CS-60 and CS-80. The CS-50 looks like a scaled-down version of the monstrous CS-80, and it is! This will benefit those who crave the famous classic Yamaha synth sound without the struggle of lugging around the 215 pound CS-80! The CS-50 weighs in at about 100 pounds. The CS-50 is also just 4-voice polyphonic, and lacks the quality weighted 61-note keyboard of the CS-80. The CS-50 has just a 49-note standard keyboard. It does feature pressure (aftertouch) sensitivity route-able to several destinations, however. The CS-50's sound is unmistakably related to other classic CS-series synthesizers. "From 1975, it's the little brother of the Yamaha CS80 (the famous "Blade Runner" Synth). This board was amazingly ahead of it's time in it's polyphonic implementation. If you recall, the majority of the big names at that time were strictly monophonic. This guy came out and featured 4 key polyphony and an early form of aftertouch that can affect the filter, VCO or LFO. There is also a auxillary input to run sounds through the side panel which I have used on a couple of tracks.Small or not, this still weighs close to 100 lbs and is the size of a small organ. There is a really great sounding ring modulator for crazy sci fi sound, 13 presets and a full synthesizer section including both HP and LP resonant filters. Specifications Polyphony - 4 voices, monotimbral Oscillators - Four (1 VCO per voice) LFO - One Filter - 12 dB/oct lowpass and highpass filtering Effects - None Keyboard - 49 keys (pressure sensitive, route to various destinations) Memory - 13 preset, 1on panel Control - CV/Gate Date Produced - 1976"

MMM MATTSON MINI MODULAR AMPLITUDE FOLLOWER TEST

YouTube via redmartian http://mattsonminimodular.com/
"I'm using a new prototype Amplitude Follower module with the source being a Gibson Les Paul. The AF triggers a gate based on a threshold level. There is also a secondary gate which can be delayed by several seconds.

The patch is very simple: Two VCFs swept by two ADSRs on the two gates (one slightly delayed) from the AF. One VCF is LP and the other is HP and panned stereo."

General purpose Midi controllers

sizone has an excellent thread on alternate scaling MIDI controllers on the forum. The thread lists out a few current controllers that can be used for this purpose including the Jazzmutant Lemur, H-Pi Tonal Plexus, Buchla, and DIY devices. The thread includes some pros and cons along with investment costs in both currency, materials and time. Well worth a read. sizone is also looking for alternatives. If you have any suggestions feel free to chime in either in the comments here or the thread there.

Tiptop Audio Z3000 HSM Test

Tiptop Audio Z3000 HSM Test from Isotope Of Me on Vimeo.
video description:
"I recently purchased the Z3000 Smart VC-Oscillator from Tiptop Audio and have been intrigued with the HSM input, so I ran it through an audio analyzer to see how the waveforms differ between regular sync and the HSM as I swept the oscillator through it's full range.

One of the big differences is that HSM isn't just for pulse/square waves, as I show by using the sine output of my A-111 VCO and monitor the sine output of the Z3000.

One also gets unique and interesting results using both the sync and HSM inputs with different sync sources as is also shown toward the end of the video.

Mind you, this is a bit of a noisy one, not very musical but hopefully clarifies what this unusual and neat function that Tiptop Audio have included on the Z3000 can do."

Sine is fine!

Sine is fine! from Isotope Of Me on Vimeo.
"Here's a nice mellow modular patch using the combined sine waves from the A-110 and A-111 VCOs for the initial portion of the sound. A heavily and quickly phased pulse wave is slowly mixed in as the note sustains longer. First I walk you through the patch as I randomly (and rather mindlessly pick at the keys, then at the end of the video you can hear the sound sequenced into a mix."

Pin Patch Matrix

via this auction
auction details:
"The possibilities are endless with these patch matrices. They are much smaller versions of those found on the VCS 3, Synthi, and Vostok synthesizers. I haven't been able to locate the manufacturer's name on theses guys.

They would be great for circuit bending the smaller synths and toys
or maybe you could mount all four in a square, cover that with a "master" face panel, and spread out the pin nputs to create a Synthi sized matrix and give yourself more finger room.

I have four of these in perfect shape.

Each matrix ships with 10 gold-plated pins."

Looks like a Ghielmetti patch matrix.

Model 500 - 'The Chase' - SH-101 MC-202 TR-606 Moog Prodigy

YouTube via rottenrow
"JH from Dirty Hospital skips lunch to batter down a version of 'The Chase'. The Mac is firing out MIDI clock to the Kenton Pro 2, which is sending arpeggio clock to the Roland SH-101 and DIN sync to the Roland MC-202. The Roland TR-606 is taking sync from the 202. The 202 is also going through the Holy Grail pedal by Electro Harmonix, on the excellent 'Flerb' setting. And of course the bassy goodness comes from the Moog Prodigy. Recorded into Ableton, with a smidgen of compression over the mix. John enjoyed a bigger than normal tea that evening."

I love my Monome!

YouTube via StarfireMX
"This is by far one of the most interesting musical device I've ever came across, to find out more go to monome.org.

This was made with Ableton Live and a Monome 64, using impulse in ableton for drums, and both the lower 'bass' line and the main melody were made using the FAW Circle VST.

The Monome was controlling the main melody using Polygomé written by Stretta (stretta.com) and using the tilt feature of the Monome to control Circle live for some added variance.

I know it got a little long but I was having fun with the Monome and got carried away, beside isn't that what music is about sometimes!

Thanks for watching, please comment!!"

RA: Machine Love: John Tejada Interview

You can find the full interview sent my way via Mark on Resident Advisor.
snip: "If you had to prioritize and sell everything except for five items (not including monitors / mixer), what would they be?

I would need my modular, my Cwejman S1, my Doepfer Maq 16/3, my Moog Voyager and my Eventide Eclipse. If compressors counted as well, I may have to keep my bus compressor over the Eventide. Or wait, the Moog, or uhm.... now I'll probably have a stress nightmare.

How often do you use hardware sequencers like the Doepfer MAQ box?
I use them probably in nearly everything I do. A big reason for this is they send CV/Gate out to my analog stuff which gives me much more creative control over midi. I can send channel 3 of the sequencer to the filter in or anything that has CV in and sequence the parameters. It just sounds great. Also drum-wise, I enjoy using one of the drum boxes to sequence with. But since I do come from a piano background, I also many times just enjoy hammering it all out on the keyboard."

Frostwave Funk-a-Duck Envelope Filter

via the forum where this is listed for sale. "Out of production and very rare-ified... Maker Paul Perry is on an indefinite hiatus at the moment and this pedal is out of production. This is a Mutron III on steroids type envelop filter with High and Low switchable Filters, an up and down knob to dial in the envelop, an over the top resonance knob control that can self oscillate and get very twitchy... This Funk-a-duck is designed for extreme filtering capabilities so you have the standard Mutron or Discumbobulator settings as a starting point. The envelop is chewy and sweeps with a pot from early to late trigger and open. This pedal plays well with others...be it Electric Guitar, Bass, processing drum machines, analogue synths, and anything else that you want to throw at it. This is a deep box, built like a brick in its duck yellow 16 guage steel enclosure and is in excellent condition. Comes with original 14 Volt AC wallwart." Some more details on the forum.
