Analog Four & Serge / NonLinear Circuit Synths
Analog Four & Serge / NonLinear Circuit Synths _ Edit 1
Published on Aug 31, 2013 DJjondent·208 videos
"A bit of live minimal electronica.
The Analog 4 (by Elektron) is clocking the Serge/NLC synth.
I'm using the Divine CMOS & Resonator filter
from Non-Linear Circuits (NLC) .... along with the odd Serge Wave shaper.
For the record:
VCOs used: NLC VCOs 1 & 2, Serge Precision VCO & NTO,
The master clock from the A4 is split with a Serge Pulse divider, and a NLC Great Divide.
They clock the various NLC & Serge sequencers.
A special mention about the Divine CMOS & Great Divide.
I'm using The Divine CMOS here as a harmonic divider.
This circuit takes two input signals and divides them down by /2, /4, /8 & /16.
I'm then re-mixing the divisions to create new & complex harmonics.
And the Great divide is a clock divider capable of dividing down to 1/16384 of the clock signal.
According to Andrew's Manual, A 1Hz signal on the clock means the /16384 output will rise approx. every 4.5 hours.
Thanks to Andrew of Nonlinear Circuits

MacBeth Mk1 Oscillator 'B'
via Ken MacBeth on Facebook
"Of the 5U Macbeth Mk1 Modular System- the Mk1 Oscillator 'B' is a favourite of mine- it is a rich and powerful single oscillator featuring Sawtooth and Pulse/Square waveforms. In fact it's unique- having two separate Pulse/Square outputs- both of these outputs can have PWM applied to them, independently for a very rich, moving sound. Add two Sub Octaves to this device which it has, and you have one monster sounding oscillator. I plan to demo this shortly!"

"module a-107 is a completely new voltage controlled filter that has available 36 filter types: different versions of low pass, high pass, band pass, notch, all pass and filters with new response curves that have no name up to now. the frequency response curves of the 36 filters available in the a-107 are shown in the graphics at the end of this page. the filters are organized in two groups of 18 filters each. the transition between different filter types within one group can be soft (morphing) or hard (switching).
the filter was inspired by the erwik musikelektronik multimode filter, which is based on the filter used in the oberheim matrix 12 resp. xpander (thanks to jesper erwik johansson for his assistance and permission to use his idea in our a-107 module). the possibilities of the a-107 go far beyond these filter designs as a lot of new filter types are available and the transition between filters can be soft (morphing) or hard (switching) and the filters can be arranged in 64 different voltage controlled filter chains.
the transistion between the different filter types is controlled by two parameters:
* filter step (marked step at the front panel)
* morphing time (marked morph at the front panel)

Hark back to the heyday of classic rock and one instrument stands above the rest, a 350lb behemoth that would forever change the way we think about making music. At the heart of this monster was an array of tape machines, one per note on the attached keyboard, each playing a uniquely recorded sound. With only 8 seconds of tape per key and a cumbersome frame this machine had its limitations but was nonetheless impressive for its time, boasting a multitimbral and truly polyphonic 'engine'. Instantly made famous by the Beatles hit 'Strawberry Fields Forever' and used by countless others including The Moody Blues, Rolling Stones, and prog rock legends Yes, this was the 'must-have' sound of the 60's. While its use fell out of fashion the implications it made have become fundamental to modern music production.
With Mello we've aimed to deliver a complete and authentic recreation of this prolific instrument. Dozens of original tapes were multi-sampled on 3 different machines in order to give you the best representation of each of the 28 available sounds. To capture the live experience the key noise and inner mechanical sounds were stereo recorded, including tape noise and key-off sounds, and are all mixable to taste.
To make Mello even more versatile we've added a few tricks of our own, including an analog-modeled tape delay, reverb, a custom unison mode to give you stereo sound without unwanted transposition or chorusing, a switchable multimode filter, a 3-band EQ and more.
With these classics Flute, Brass, Celesta, Choir, Strings, Organs, Guitars, Piano and many more, Mello delivers a warm and buttery tone indistinguishable from the original and is, in every way we could make it, a perfect tribute to the quintessential studio instrument of the 60's.
Features:
• Pristine and comprehensive sample library from 3 original machines
• Mixable key and mechanical noise for authentic experience
• Switchable keyboard range (original or extended)
• Stereo modes including custom unison
• Switchable multimode filter with cutoff and resonance
• ADSR envelopes for amplitude and filter with velocity sensitivity
• 3-band EQ with sweepable mid frequency
• Built-in Sparkverb
• Analog-modeled tape delay"

Alesis A6 Andromeda pads in 16-voice analog power
Published on Mar 21, 2012 tsiklonaut·52 videos
"Selection of pads made on the Alesis A6 Andromeda analog synthesizer. All patches played use all the 16-voices A6 can offer simultaneously.. No processing, just straight output from the A6. YouTube conversion kills the high-resolving analog sound quality and fatness, but hopefully this gives you a glimpse into the A6 inner life... All played are Alesis factory patches. I've only had the synth for a couple of days now so just barely scratching the surface of it - here's a proof that even with the much-chriticized factory banks you can make some good sounds. Use the "HD" quality mode button below to get the most out of it.
If anyone wonders, some pictures on the background are from our own Milkyway's massive cosmic neighbour Messier's catalog M31 Andromeda galaxy, one of the few galaxies that has blue-shift instead of red-shift like all other galaxies we see, meaning it comes towards us and with the "locked" gravitational pull our Milkyway Galaxy will collide and merge with the bigger brother Andromeda in a very distant future, forming a new galaxy. Hopefully the Solar system will not be thrown out into the vast emptyness of space or sucked into a black-hole due to the viscous gravitational play during the merging. The name for the synth is inspired from Andromeda - and I would say it's a very fitting name for it :)"

"A performance of my composition "Inverted Grapefruit", at the UCSC graduate composition colloquium.
This is a piece for Emu modular synthesizer, and drum set with electronics. The electronics on the drum set are a Max/MSP patch, miking, korg nano slider, and soft step midi foot controller.
Listen with headphones, or with nice bass-y speakers. Get all that analog deep bass."

"For your consideration is the Roland TR-606 analog drum machine with Exfade Mk.II modifications.
The 606 has been used in a smoke free studio and shows minor cosmetic wear(see pics).
The unit has been fully tested, and is fully functional.
The new controls are:
Bass Drum: Decay, Pitch, Tone, Envelope Tune
Snare: Decay, Pitch, Tone, Noise
L.Tom: Pitch, Tone, Bass boost
H.Tom: Pitch, Decay, Level
Cymbal: Pitch, Decay, LBF, HBF
Hats: O.Hat & C.Hat Decay, LBF, BPF
-Individual outs
-MIDI to din/din to MIDI sync
This particular unit has the Midi/din sync option installed. The individual outs are on 1/4"jacks on the back panel. Also, there's memory installed now so that it doesn't require battery changes and will save data while unplugged. I also had Exfade install an 1/8" clock output in the rear, as well as a modification for better separation of the high and low toms. The Midi in/out is for sync purposes only, the drums themselves can't be played from an external sequencer but fortunately the 606 has the best drum sequencer Roland ever put on a TR machine.
Included in the listing is the Roland TR-606 with Exfade Mk.II modifications as pictured."

Introducing Modular - The Synth App for iPad and iPhone
Published on Aug 30, 2013 PulseCodeInc·15 videos
"Modular looks, acts, and sounds like a hardware modular synthesizer to give you features that musicians want such as pulse width modulation, oscillator sync, 4 pole ladder filters, and 1v/oct filter tracking. Traditional modular systems are expensive and out of reach for the average artist. Modular is here to bridge that gap and allow everyone the opportunity to use these powerful synthesizers."

The Simonsound - The Beam B/W In the Shadow of the Skylon Featuring
Trios - Tristram Cary (edit)
Published on Aug 30, 2013 the simonsound·35 videos
"A rare performance of the chance composition created by electronic music pioneer Tristram Cary.
Trios combines a scored performance on EMS VCS3 synthesiser (in this case prerecorded using a EMS Synthi AKS and played back on reel to reel tape) and two performers using dice to randomly decide which tracks to play from two vinyl records. For this performance CD's were used in place of the vinyl.
The dice and holders in this performance were Tristrams own, donated to Ian Helliwell.
Tape prepared by Vicky Fenlon, Ian Helliwell and Simon James. Performed by Helliwell and James at Hackney Picture House, London on 17/03/13.
Additional camera work by Stuart Heaney. Directed by Ian Helliwell."

A fantastical Monorail journey in sound
This latest release from The Simonsound is a radiophonic ride aboard their imaginary 'SS Mk I Monorail', taking in five out of this world destinations along the way. Board the Monorail and be whisked to Outer Space World, Underwater World, Inner Space, Robot World and The Land of Myths and Beasts. Exploring the more experimental aspects of their previous work, 'The Beam' is a carefully crafted electronic collage mixing Buchla, Moog and EMS synthesisers, with tape manipulated percussion and acoustic sources.
Like a souvenir record from a mid century World¹s Fair, ŒThe Beam¹ follows in the footsteps of early electronic composers such as Raymond Scott, Tristram Cary and Tom Dissevelt.
The B-side, 'In the Shadow of the Skylon' is an oscillating ode to a long lost London landmark and futuristic structure created for the Festival of Britain in 1951. Hovering over the South Bank like a UFO, the Skylon pointed into space like a sign post for what was to come. Sadly the Skylon never got to see the future it aimed to represent as it was torn down at the end of the Festival by a petty Conservative government. ŒIn the Shadow of the Skylon¹ celebrates its short optimistic life.
In addition to the standard release, there will also be 25 'Monorail Pilot's Packs' which will include the 10" coloured vinyl, a printed map, booklet and Monorail ticket, a sew on 'Pilot's Patch', a 1/4 inch magnetic tape loop and a CD featuring an extended trip into Outer Space World and outtakes from the project. These will all be housed in a letter press printed pack featuring the Simonsound Transit Authority logo on the front."

Rancho Electro - Poolside sunset synth jams in Ojai, CA
Note this is a live performance and not a synth fest. Normally this would not go up but, it will be a chance to see some gear live that you might not otherwise get to see.
Gear at the event will include: EMS Synthi, ARP2600, MOOG Little Phatty, Analog4, modular gear as well as some more esoteric instruments.
via Mikael Jorgenen
"n September 2013, I will be hosting three Sunday afternoon, free, poolside Synthesizer Jam parties at The Ojai Rancho Inn in Ojai, CA.
I’ve asked some friends to bring some gear and help us help you get some sunset synth vibes cooking.
The music will begin at 6pm.
09.15.2013 – Esteemed fellow Wilco travelers Nathaniel Murphy and Joshua Goldsmith will bring their intellectual funk to the poolside proceedings.
09.22.2013 – Ojai local Dave Palmer will school us all on the distortion free oscillations of wavetable synths. Xander Singh shall bring his electron squeezing machines & we’ll see what that sounds like.
09.29.2013 – To celebrate the release of my new record “Mikael Jorgensen & Greg O’Keeffe” we’ll have vinyl copies of it and the elusive “ARMZ” 7″ on purple translucent vinyl for sale as well as the debut of “QUINDAR” featuring James Merle Thomas on lozenges and concepts.
I hope that some of you fellow west coasters might join us for some poolside electronic music at sundown in the Ojai valley.
Checklist:
Bathing Costumes
Blanket / beach chairs
BYO Wine / Spirits / Beer
A Sweater (or “Jumper” if you will), for when the sun goes down, it gets cozily chilly if you can’t find purchase around the fire-pits.
See you soon."

Interview with Udo Hanten on Astronauta Pinguim
via Astronauta Pinguim where you'll find the full interview and tons of pics.
"Udo Hanten was born in Krefeld (North Rhine Westfalia, Germany), in 1956. His first instrument was an acoustic guitar, but it was the electronic possibilities that Udo could achieve with that guitar plus a pickup, a tube radio, a spring reverb and a reel to reel recorder that led him choose his career as an electronic musician and producer later on. In the late '60s he started in music, in late '70s he started to work with audio performances and installations, in the early '80s he started to work with video and in the mid-'80s he started with Laserworks. Udo is in the business with all those art forms since then!..."

Moog Modular Inspired Bed Sheet & Pillow Case Set

Unfortunately not the biggest pic, but there you have it. via Elettorama on Facebook.
The pillow cases do appear to be based on the Moog 960 sequencer or Synthesizers.com Q960. The sheet appears to be more an interpretation. If you can ID anything, feel free to comment.

4ms QCD (Quad Clock Distributor) Sneak Preview
Published on Aug 30, 2013 4mspedals·76 videos
"Another sneak preview of the upcoming Quad Clock Distributor (QCD) eurorack synth module from 4ms. The QCD is a four-channel CV-controlled Clock Divider/Multiplier with individual Resets on each channel. Each channel also has a Div/Mult knob that goes from /64 to x64. The Expander module adds Pulse Width control via CV and knobs.
In this patch, the QCD is triggering every sound event. The red and black channels modulate various aspects of the "lead" and "rave siren" sound. The 4ms PEG plus the Doepfer A-156 quantizer is used for the "sequencer" (both pinged/triggered by the QCD). The kick and hi-hat are triggered by the rising and falling edges of the Red and Green channels respectively. Both these sounds are made by running the QCD output into a Machinedrum trigger input (no sequencing is done by the Machinedrum, it's all done by the QCD!)
In the back of the QCD, there's a header to connect to the QPLFO (Quad Pingable LFO) to drive triangle/saw/ramp waves that are timed to the QCD's clocks."

Optical it's in nice condition (see photo's) with only some minor scratches on it. It's missing the rubber foots at the bottom.
