Moog Sub 37 - Funky Sounds Demo by Mike Pensini

Published on Sep 5, 2014

"Hey guys, here's a demo of the funkier side of the Moog Sub 37 synth. There were a lot of requests to showcase some more old-school, smoother, funk and fusion sounds so I put this together.

I recorded this directly into a Focusrite Saffire Pro40 with no effects/compression or other instruments so you can hear the true sound of the synth."

Genome MIDI Sequencer V2 for iPad Adds Instrument Rack - New Drum Machine Demo

Genome Ver 2 Drum Machine Published on Mar 31, 2015 ipadloops

iTunes: Genome MIDI Sequencer - White Noise Audio Software

"I spent four minutes with Genome version 2.

Genome is a powerful pattern based MIDI sequencer for the iPad. With GMS you can control all of your MIDI gear and apps* – sequence single patterns or an entire 16 track song.

It is great for people looking to try an alternate studio setup, searching for a compact sequencer to bring to band practice or those who just want to find a way to ditch the bulky laptop.

GMS easily syncs your drum machines and arpeggiators by sending and receiving MIDI clock messages. General MIDI files can be exported and imported for integration with desktop apps**.

Genome MIDI Sequencer is made for accessories like the Alesis ioDock, Line6 MIDI Mobilizer, the Yamaha i-MX1, the iRig MIDI and compatible MIDI devices using the Camera Connection Kit.

Genome also works great for sequencing other iOS apps. Now you can program melodies and basslines for apps like NLog PRO or Sunrizer while keeping a beat synced with Modrum.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Though Genome now has a basic set of instruments, some MIDI gear or other music apps that support virtual midi connections are recommended for use with this app.

What’s New in Version 2.0.0
– New ‘longest pattern’ song mode
– New Instrument Rack with built in instruments and effects:

Genome Ver 2 Modules

(Radiant Synth, Drum Machine, Filter, Reverb, EQ, Xdelay, Phaser, Chorus, Distortion, Mixer, Scope)

– Audiobus
– Fixed hanging notes issue on pattern switch
– Dozens of internal fixes
– A Metronome
– Usability improvements to the pattern editor

"An old school sampler synth. similar to Ensoniqs from that era. It has a small sampler by today's standards 256k / 12 bit sampling. Although it does have analog VCF's and VCA's you can generate some great lo-fi sounds with this synth. It is an 8 voice, the keyboard can be split into 8 layers, MIDI equipped, and there is an arpeggiator. Designed in 1985 so now a classic instrument. Features 61 keys so this is quite a large keyboard. Original retail price an affordable £2000"

"Transanalog brand Synthdrummer module. Drum trigger to analog synth interface. A very rare model. Some scuffing (see photos). Power adapter standard but not included. Can also run on battery power (I tested the battery included & it still has some juice). Underside is left open (see photos) to allow for easy battery change, but could easily be covered if desired."

I'm guessing this is from the same Transanalog last posted here in 2011. I realized I did not have a channel label for them, so I added one with this post. A search for Transanalog will bring up previous posts.

Game of Thrones Theme on a Modular Synthesizer (@obrienmedia)

Published on Mar 31, 2015 Patrick OBrien

"The Game Of Thrones theme played on a modular synthesizer, with the melody played on my DSI Mopho analog synth below the modular.

No computers were used in this song, other than the pressing the space bar to play the Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer in the background.

This theme showcases the Kilpatrick Audio K4815 Pattern Generator, The Harvestman's Malgorithm for the bit crushing effect, and MakeNoise's Rene for the bass sequencing. I used Mutable Instruments' Yarns as a clock source.

Dick Hyman | Modular Improvisation

American pianist and composer Dick Hyman is best known for his proficiency on the piano and his versatility in various jazz styles, but Hyman is also responsible for creating some of the earliest popular Moog recordings. The 1969 album Moog: The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman, found the accomplished jazz musician exploring new sonic territories with a brand-new instrument, the Moog synthesizer.

"Mixed and recorded live on a Tascam DP24 Portastudio. In this video I'm using the DP24 in a basic way, recording everything in one take, using its onboard compressors, EQ and delay effects. The DP24 can also mutitrack and do a lot more than this but I'm still figuring it out! All sequences are programmed and played directly on the hardware sequencers of the gear you see. The second Bass Bot (303 clone) is going through a Danelectro FAB Distortion pedal then into the Tascam."

The Crowminius Synthesizer - "Crow’s Mini for the Rest of Us"

via Adafruit

"Hey folks, Crow here. As I may have mentioned in the past my first hobby is electronic music synthesizer design. While a fair amount of my spare time these past two years involves the crOwBX project [featured here], I did manage to work out the design for a new instrument. The two main driving forces behind this project were wanting to make a replacement machine in the style of a Minimoog 204D ('model D') for my good friend Doug Ferguson, who lost his circa 1974 original Mini to hurricane Katrina, and I wanted to create a machine that would fit in the compact aluminum attache case as used with Dan Alich’s awesome Duinokit. Thus was the Crowminius synthesizer born. (Doug calls it 'Crow’s Mini for the rest of us.') The schematic capture and board layout took about 10 days, with 1,457 airwires to sort through for the approximately 800 parts. (I do not use autorouting: autorouters suck.)"

CV Toolkit 2.0 – Overview Video + littleBits USB i/o – Intro Video

Published on Mar 31, 2015 Spektro Audio

"CV Toolkit is a software that lets you many different virtual modules to control, modulate and sequence your synthesizers via control voltage (CV). These virtual modules can work independently or can bet set to influence and modulate each other via the Routing Matrix.
With CV Toolkit 2, you can create anything from multi-channel rhythmic sequences to complete polyphonic patches.

In order you CV Toolkit with your synth, you'll need a DC-coupled audio interface or an Expert Sleeper's ES-3, ES-4, ES-40, ESX-4CV, and ESX-8CV modules*.

The new 2.0 version was to design to be both easy for beginners and extremely flexible for more advanced users. We want the users to feel comfortable while taking their first steps with the program but also have enough different tools to help to go further and deeper as they get more familiar with CV Toolkit.

If you'd like to know more about this new version, visit http://spektroaudio.com/blog/2015/3/3..."

More demos with their descriptions below.

"This video is an example of how to chain effects in the FX Manager, sequencing the DSI Mopho x4.

Each track can handle up to four chained up effects. As all effects are real-time processed, the recorded events will not be affected but the sound will change on the fly. In this video only one track is used, in LIVE mode exclusively (CHORD sub-mode). Its effect section contains two arpeggiators, one humanizer and one randomizer.

0:10 keypad used to play simple notes, an external keyboard controler could be used instead of the integrated pads
0:14 octave is set down to access lower notes
0:15 use of the smartpads in chord mode
0:21 tonality changed from Cmaj to Cmin and back to Cmaj
...
0:34 first arpeggiator added
0:38 octave set to -1
0:59 exit from the first arpeggiator with the following settings:

style = up/down
gate = 200%
rate = 1/1 (slow)
octave = -2
...
1:03 harmonizer added and set with +5 and -4 to create chords from the first arpeggiator outputed notes.
...
1:24 second arpeggiator added, playing around and finally setting a very high rate
...
2:54 second arpeggiator style set to "random"
3:05 second arpeggiator is bypassed
...
3:11 randomizer added, with param set to 'velocity'"
