Analog Presets on a Cathedral Pipe Organ - Vox Humana

Brian Comnes sent in these images of a cathedral pipe organ's presets (more pics below). I noticed on the far right what looks like "Voix Humana". Those of you familiar with classic preset patches should recognize "Vox Humana" as one of the classic patches on the preset version of the Moog Polymoog. The patch was famously used by Gary Numan. The "Voix Humana" got me wondering if the Polymoog patch may have been based on a common organ patch. I did some searching on YouTube and found the video below. What do you all think?

"We ventured down to Durham, NC for Moog's annual celebration of music, conversation, and musical devices! Here's a recap of our booth scene in the Modular Marketplace.

We brought along a prototype of the forthcoming ONDA! A fully programmable instrument, kind of like the Organelle but a little different... It has multi-colored light-up keys, a built-in speaker and microphone, and battery power for easy use on the go.

All the visuals at our booth were made with the ETC. All sounds made in this video were made at Moogfest, using the ONDA, Organelle, Kaleidoloop and rain.

"Here is a quick introduction to the sound and character of the Intellijel Rubicon 2 Oscillator. All of these patches show the direct output of the system, with no external effects or post processing performed.

Rubicon2 is the second generation of the classic Rubicon triangle core analog VCO, designed in collaboration with David G. Dixon.

It features nine simultaneously available waveshape outputs; two sub-oscillators; three variations of a sine wave; a new Tri-State pulse circuit; exponential Frequency Modulation (FM); linear FM; hard and soft (flip) sync; pulse width modulation; CV control of FM index; a new foldable Warp circuit; and the ability to perform perfectly-symmetrical Thru-zero FM with absolutely no change in pitch or tracking accuracy.

This is not a ‘set it and forget it’ oscillator. It’s an oscillator that demands to be tweaked, modulated and explored. It’s an oscillator that’s proudly analog and eschews all shortcuts. As such, it’s an oscillator that rewards its owner with sounds as boundless as their creative limits allow."

Building a Subharmonicon: What it's like to attend a Moog Engineering Workshop

"If you were ever curious about what it's like to attend Moog's Engineering Workshop at Moogfest - join me as I walk you through the process of building the Moog Subharmonicon, including some pretty nasty mistakes I admit to making along the way. Luckily Moog's engineers are patient and helpful, and used to dealing with such things...

Moogfest is a synth fan's dream come true, with live shows, music making workshops and plenty of synths on hand. A small subset of Moogfest is the "VIP Engineering Workshop" - where, for a hefty price ($1,500+fees) you get to build a new, unreleased synth, with guidance by top Moog engineers.

Some of the synths in previous years ended up being released (Werkstatt, DFAM) and some did not (BFAM). When I read the description of this years' workshop synth - the Subharmonicon, the idea sounded so special, I decided not to take the chance that it won't be released, and to document the process along the way.

I had very little previous soldering experience, but decided to go for it anyway. The kit you get in the workshop requires soldering 81 components with 340 joints, not to mention dozens of nuts, washers and screws.

The workshop spans over two sessions of four hours each, across two days of Moogfest, and is a very memorable and positive experience.

The soundtrack for this mini-documentary was made entirely using the Subharmonicon, with some assistance from Valhalla Shimmer and Touche by Expressive E."

SONiVOX’s Solina Redux virtual instrument adds a sweet sounding virtual analog synthesizer to a classic reproduction of an Arp Solina String Ensemble, then throws in TWO fully programmable 8-step sequencers to boot. The Arp Solina was the preeminent string ensemble in the 1970’s, made famous by the Eagles, Elton John, Pink Floyd, The Cure, Joy Division, Tangerine Dream, New Order and many others. "Hello everybody! I recorded this live so you get to see how it was made. It's kind of a tutorial but instead of explaining I just show you. Scroll down for more details. It's very simple so there is not much variation except for the transposition of the sequences.

First I program a melody into the sequencer. 00:30 Add delay. 00:40 Add Valhalla Shimmer reverb. 00:46 transpose the sequence. 01:05 Trying to find matching notes to add in to the sequencer on the second M32. 01:30 Adjusting the tempo 01:40 Adding Crystallizer effect. 01:50 adding reverb. After that I just play around with the knobs. 05:50 replace the sequence on the second mother 32 because it was getting boring.

The synths are hooked up to FL Studio via Scarlett 2i2 audio interface to their own individual FX tracks to give me more control over the sound. Mainly the reverb wetness.
VST effects used: Tal Dub Delay 2, Valhalla Shimmer & Soundtoys Crystallizer."

"This is just the Filter. The sequencer section is triggering envelopes into the resonant filter and VCA. Notice the VCOs and SUBs are turned down (off) in the mixer section. The Filter Resonance is turned all the way up.

Using one of the Sub Harmonic Generators to modulate the filter cutoff allows the VCO of that Sub Harmonic Generator to influence the sound as well."

I was very upset during this recording to find out at 3:28 that the VCA envelope slider is dirty. After this session I cleaned it up (also the frequency slider - grrrr) with isopropyl alcohol and now works fine, it's only sliding faster than the other sliders, so I have to find a silicone based vaseline to slow it down.
