Vintage Kawai R-7 Stereophonic Rhythm Machine

This one was spotted and sent in via M Me.

It appears to be the first one to be featured on the site. It looks more like home stereo equipment than synth gear.  Rhythms for lounge parties....

"Kawai R-7, a drumcomputer that due to its look was probably built in the 70s.

It´s obviously an extremely rare species as even long time consuming searches on the internet were unsuccessful.

The R-7 is in a beautiful shape as easily seen on the pics with only minor imperfections on the tolex and the veneer side panels. And the original "Stereo Selector" knob is missing.

After my tests I got the impression that everything works. You can choose between the different rhythms with the white switches or you could simultaneously press several switches for complex rhythms. Individual instruments or instrument groups can be activated or deactivated by the round black switches.

A nice effect is the changing colored backlight (kind of animation) while the rhythms are playing. I have never seen this feature on any other rhythm machine.

Another unusual if not unique feature is the possibility to adjust the left and right volume channel and to switch between mono and stereo - whatever it does."

"Gotharman Little Deformer Mk1 Black Edition Synth Sampler Effects Processor. If you’re reading this, you know what it does. Sounds amazing. Updated with the latest firmware so has the same great stuff as the later Deformers. Only a handful of these were made and very rare in the US.

Mine has some lettering wear to the front panel but works great. Manual and many tutorials online."

"Mellow/moody live jam made from a chord exercise I was doing with the Irjule Theoryboard and the Ensoniq Fizmo. Later I added more layers live while mixing the loops to a recorder using Dave Spier’s amazing G-Force Software M-Tron Pro, with his new free Isolation Choir add-on (Covid-19 inspired)."

Note this is the first post to feature the TheoryBoard. The following is an overview video for it:

I also created a document full of patching techniques and ideas that I will continue updating - https://www.patreon.com/posts/documen...

Here are some patch notes:
---------------------------
- I have a field recording of birds in the woods in VCV Rack, going through some reverb and delay.
- I'm sequencing the O Coast and the Basimilus with the Keystep Pro, and I also play the Felt Instruments Piano and Cello with it in VCV Rack.
- I use Magneto in Sample mode, recording my Kalimba, Flute, and Voice onto it, and it's going through Flame in VCV Rack.
- I'm recording the Cello and Piano onto the Morphagene, which also goes through Flame in VCV.
- I have one Freak set with Braids in PRTC mode, and this is going through Microcell in Granular mode.
- I'm also using my voice with the Microcell.
- The mic is going through the 2HP Freez first, which is not always active.
- I'm using the built-in mic of Arbhar to record different sounds into it.
- I have different recordings on Nebulae like guitar, metallophone, my son's toy piano, and it's going through the ReduXer from VoicAS, which I also use for level control, and it's going also through the Disting with a reverb algo.
- The Basimilus is going through LedRover from VoicAS for extra crunch and level control, and from there it's going once directly to the mixer, and once through another Freak in HP mode and from there to the Mimeophon.
- The O Coast is going through the Chronoblob2 in VCV Rack.
- I also have some modulation going on in VCV.
- There's also a vocal sample in VCV that I prepared and sampled.

The Roland XV-5080 with SR-JV80-04 Vintage Synth
"PWM Strings" is a favorite Patch of mine, so sweet!

This demo I tweak the XV-5080 with the JD-XA as MIDI
editor & controller. Very cool & useful today, these units
still fetch over $550 without any expansions & is featured
onboard in the new Roland Jupiter-X & Jupiter-Xm.
But both new boards do not include the SR-JV80-04
Vintage Synth expansion board! :)

Here you go: 7 prior this one have been featured on the site. Still rare! :)

Moog VX-351 & CP-251

"The VX-351 is a control voltage and gate output expansion box that provides 19 Control Voltage and 2 Gate outputs generated by the Minimoog Voyager. Also included are two 4-way mults for distributing a voltage to multiple destinations, and two attenuators.

The VX-351 connects to the Voyagers accessory port with the included detachable cable. It houses twenty-one one-quarter inch jacks that are connected to the Voyagers CV and Gate outputs in a CP-251 sized enclosure with an optional rack mount kit. It also includes two 4-way mults and two attenuators. Adding this to your Voyager adds the capabilities of a modular synthesizer.

The Moog Moogerfooger CP-251 Control Processor takes command of an entire armada of Moog synths and effects in one easy-to-use compact unit. Compatible with the whole Moogerfooger line, the Minimoog Voyager, and any voltage-controlled gear, this processor sports a dual waveform LFO, noise generator, and sample-and-hold circuit for an entire realm of sound crafting power."

2001 Gold Metasonix TM-1 Vacuum-Tube Waveshaper/Ringmod SN TM1-15

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"If you are the type who likes things that are different , the Metasonix TM-1 may be just what you have been searching for. With its all vacuum tube circuit, there is no mistaking the sound of the TM-1 with any other device.

Metasonix took the basic circuit of their award-winning TS-21 Hellfire Modulator, and added the world's first vacuum tube audio ring modulator. The result is a new sound-effects device in a small, economical package. The sound is totally unique, powerful and distinctive. Use it as a stand-alone effects box, or mount it in a modular synth with the optional TM-D or TM-M kit.

The pentode preamp gives gain and distortion; the pulser injects small pulses on top of the signal; and the beam tube gives both wavefolding and ring modulation (carrier provided by an internal wide-range oscillator, or inject your own carrier signal). The TM-1 can also be used as a self-contained pseudorandom signal generator, by patching its output back to its input. You've read about "strange attractors" and other chaotic sound generation techniques? The TM-1 is the first all-tube chaotic sound generator. The results must be heard to be believed!

Frequency response: less than 10 Hz to greater than 40 kHz
Distortion: from less than 0.1% to 100%, depending on control settings and input waveform
Hum and noise: less than 0.5 mV
Power input: 10 - 12 volts AC, 50/60 Hz, 0.8 amp at idle
Inputs: phone jacks for audio input; optional inputs for beam-tube CV, VCA CV, and ring-modulator external carrier (requires at least 20v p-p signal for full effect) Output: audio (mono)
Dimensions: 7 1/2" (192mm) x 4 3/8" (112mm) x 3" (77mm)
Weight : 5 pounds (2.2 kg)

This device has been refurbished recently by a professional and works perfectly."

"This is the 4mb version which gives you 47 seconds sampling time (23.5 stereo). EIII is in fully functional condition but cosmetically has seen some better days and priced accordingly. That being said it's still pretty clean in my opinion.

All 16 voices work well and all the analog output jacks have recently been replaced as these tend to break down over time. A few other notable upgrades.
scsi2sd internal scsi hard drive with a 4gb sd card. This means it's super quiet and extremely fast load and save times.
bright blue OLED display
fan upgrades make this one of the quietest EIII's around
key contacts and all switches have been cleaned and function great
SCSI works great and I've been using alchemy on os9 to do graphical sample editing. There's a chip in the case on the lower right as can be seen in the photos, but that's purely cosmetic.

I'm including an ebtech hum elimator. These are known to have noisy power supplies and I found that this pretty much eliminates the noise."

Some Techno with modules from Erica Synths

Published on Jun 7, 2020 Dziam Bass

"Hey.

Ok, after two weeks break from the modular first patch I made in this video.

I had the entire case with Erica Synths modules in my hand including the 2x84 Hp case and I used several of them like Pico Drums for drums with Pico Noise and Pico Trigg Pico RND,Pico vca, as well as VCO graphic VCO with my favorite LFO Black Octasource, Pico SEq and Fusion modulator Black Dual VCF for oscillators and Fusion MIxer to add some tubes sounds.

sometimes in brekadown big WET signals via Black Hole DSP for the sequence from Graphic VCO which creates this similar sound pad, it blurs the background so I decided to use it as a texture in breakdown.

So have fun and Big thanks for watching ;-)"
