"Several brands of modular synths, including Moog, Synthesizers.com, Moon Modular, Club Of The Knobs, Mos-Lab, Synth-Werk, etc. use a particular style of momentary push button switch in their sequencer modules that can sometimes bind and stick, which is annoying to unacceptable. I don’t know if all of these switches are made by the Switchcraft company or some are knockoffs? Anyways, this video shows how bad the switches can sometimes be and shows some possible solutions."

Demo of the string machine ELKA RHAPSODY from 1974. I played it dry. It can produce warm analog strings in combined with celeste-type sounds. Fully polyphonic, it has splitable keyboard. Heavily used by Tangerine Dream in the 1970s. But also played by Klaus Schulze (Timewind), Jean-Michel Jarre (Equinoxe), Vangelis and others."

I'll show you how to download all the classic FM sounds and samples for the games console that used the legendary YAMAHA YM2612 4-operator sound chip (also used in arcade cabinets such as Outrun, Paperboy).

We'll also explore using FM8 on NATIVE INSTRUMENTS MASCHINE+ for a standalone groovebox device to rival the Sonicware LIVEN MEGA Synthesis.

"The people over at DROID have been busy and present a new controller for the DROID eco system. Today we have a quick look at the features, and some examples I have been testing out. I think the module is a great option when you are interested in starting with DROID with a compact setup. But it will add a whole lot of control to deep setups as well."

The E4 is a controller with four rotary encoders.

The encoders look like normal potentiometers, but you can turn them endlessly in either direction. (Don't be fooled by the knobs, which do have a pointer).
This allows for a wide range of applications and great flexibility.

Each encoder is surrounded by a square of 32 multicolor LEDs. This LED ring is used to indicate the current value of the encoder. And it looks really great! The LEDs help you to give you an orientation by displaying the current value.

Each encoder contains a push button, which can be used just like those on the P2B8 or on the B32.

The E4 is perfect for mapping many different functions or presets to one encoder and then switch with the buttons of a P2B8 or B32 to some other context. Because of the LED rings you instantly see the current value after switching. And other than with pots, no "picking up" of the value is needed.
Furthermore, the nature of the encoders allows for some useful features, for example:

Create a "multi turn" pot, that needs to be turned several rounds for going through the total range (which allows for a finer selection).
Enable a mode where a slow movement of the encoder changes the value even slower, so it allows for instant fine tuning.
Use an encoder as a switch with a fixed number of positions (the LEDs visualise that)
Select a bipolar value with proper visualisation by the LEDs.
Use an encoder for "strumming", where you get triggers when it is turned.
As a bonus, there is a circuit called encoquencer, that allows you to build a melody sequencer based on the encoders and LEDs of the E4. It has the same features as the sequencer that is based on the motor faders of the M4 (motoquencer).
Power consumption:

+12V: 220 mA when all LEDs are white, 53 mA during normal use case
-12V: 0 mA
5V: 0 mA

Hint: The LEDs only shine fully white when you set them up to do so in your DROID patch. As long as you use the encoders in a normal way, the LEDs display colored light which is not as bright, so the power consumption is much less under normal circumstances."

The DB-01 really is an amazingly well-balanced machine that can do much more than mere basslines.

My original guide to the DB-01 was published back in 2020 and although it's one of my most popular videos it was done on a crusty camera and onboard mic. So after dozens of videos about this sturdy little machine, I thought it deserved a redo.

If, at the end, there are areas where you want more detail, there's sure to be a video about it in my DB-01 playlist. Please have a look. If not, ask in the comments, I try to answer every question.

It boasts has a wide, full analog sound, courtesy of its two analogue DCOs and one sub-osc per voice. You have the options of poly-8, poly-4 and mono modes. In mono mode it is possible to have all 24 oscillators stacked into one for an extremely powerful sound. A rare find these days as well as one of the most aesthetically cool synths out there."

"Rare/iconic/collectable as everyone will be aware, and sounds absolutely amazing. People say it has a distinct, different sonic character to the Minimoog. Huge bottom end, these vintage Moogs sound like raw electricity. Like you've just plugged a lead into a power socket on your wall. Crazy fat bass, searing leads, alien abduction sounds, etc etc etc.

Cosmetically in excellent condition, just serviced! I bought this from the original owner, who told me that it wasn't gigged. It's amazing example, usually the wooden panels show lots of wear and tear, but the panels on this one looks amazing."
